Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt the Mini-BESTest into European Portuguese and to evaluate its psychometric properties in individuals with sensorimotor impairments. MATERIAL AND METHODS A cross-sectional cross-cultural adaptation and validation study was conducted according to the COSMIN guidelines and the STROBE statement. The study included 100 participants with sensorimotor impairments who were able to walk 6 m. Cronbach's alpha and item-total correlations were used to assess internal consistency. Interpretability was assessed by examining floor and ceiling effects and skewness. To investigate construct validity, Spearman correlation coefficients and Bland-Altman analysis were performed to compare the Berg Balance Scale and the Mini-BESTest Inter- and intra-rater reliability were assessed by calculating the ICC, SEM and MDC based on video recordings of the participants during the Mini-BESTest assessments. RESULTS The European Portuguese Mini-BESTest showed good internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.892) and no significant floor or ceiling effects. Excellent inter- and intra-rater reliability (ICC = 0.97) were also demonstrated, with MDC of 2.58 and 2.57, respectively. Furthermore, this instrument showed a significant correlation with the BBS (r = 0.902). Bland-Altman analysis showed small absolute differences. CONCLUSION The European Portuguese Mini-BESTest is comparable to the original English version in terms of validity and reliability and is therefore highly recommended for use by Portuguese-speaking professionals to assess postural control.

Abstract
Diffuse axonal injury (DAI) is a severe and frequently life-altering form of traumatic brain injury that is brought on by forces of rapid acceleration as well as deceleration impacting the brain. DAI primarily stems from mechanical forces that lead to the widespread disruption of axons throughout the brain. Unlike focal injuries that affect a specific brain region, DAI manifests as multifocal axonal damage, often impairing vital neural connections. This injury occurs due to shear and tensile forces during traumatic events, such as car accidents, falls, and sports-related incidents. This current case report includes a 19-year-old male who had a fall from his bike and was hospitalised with brain trauma. A Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan was done, which revealed a case of DAI, and a computed tomography (CT) scan of the brain revealed the extra-calvarial soft tissue swelling in the left parietal region. Small haemorrhagic contusions involved the right ganglio-capsular region. Several integrative techniques, including joint approximation, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) rhythmic initiation, D1 flexion-extension, and patient education, were used to manage the patient. The patient's development was evaluated using outcome measures, such as the functional independence measure (FIM) and the Glasgow coma scale (GCS). Thus, we conclude that completing physiotherapy exercises consistently helps patients achieve their highest level of functional independence and also enhances their quality of life.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Therapeutic rebound exercise is gaining popularity among the general population, but its effectiveness in individuals with neurological impairments remains uncertain. To shed light on this, a systematic review was conducted between November 2021 and March 2023 to study the impact of rebound exercise on balance and mobility in this group. METHODS Six databases were searched. Studies were included if written in English, peer-reviewed, had original research data and assessed the effect of rebound exercise in adults with neurological disorders. The outcomes measured were balance and mobility. Two reviewers independently appraised study quality using the Critical Appraisal Skills Program for Randomized Controlled Trials. Finally, a meta-summary of the included studies was completed, and a meta-analysis was performed using RevMan software version 5.3 to determine the effectiveness of the intervention. RESULTS Five studies were included comprising 130 participants aged 31.32±7.67 to 58±12 years, 72% male and 28% female. Participants were in-patients with stroke (49%), multiple sclerosis (24%), Parkinson's disease (15%) and spinal cord injury (12%). The included papers had moderate to high methodological quality. The timed up-and-go test revealed that the rebound group participants could walk 6.08 seconds quicker over three to eight weeks. Pooled results show that rebound exercise significantly improves mobility (-0.53[-0.94, -0.11], p = 0.01), but no significant improvement was observed in balance. CONCLUSION Rebound exercise has shown the potential to improve mobility in people with neurological disorders. However, the findings should be in the context that the included studies are few and participants were in in-patient settings. PROSPERO registration: CRD42021298030.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This review explored the experiences and perceptions of adults with chronic non-cancer pain who participated in peer-support interventions. This included adults' perceptions of intervention components, strengths and limitations of interventions, and barriers and facilitators for their implementation. INTRODUCTION Chronic pain, defined as pain that persists beyond 12 weeks or past normal tissue healing time, is a prevalent and costly issue. Peer-support interventions could play a pivotal role in the management of chronic pain. Studies have been conducted examining the perspectives of people with chronic pain on peer-support interventions; however, a systematic review had yet to be conducted to synthesize this evidence. INCLUSION CRITERIA This review included qualitative studies of any design that explored the experiences of adults (defined by the study's country of origin) with chronic pain during and after participation in a peer-support intervention. METHODS The methods for this review followed JBI methodological guidance for systematic reviews of qualitative evidence. AMED, CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycArticles, and SPORTDiscus (all via EBSCOhost); Embase and PsycINFO (both via Ovid); and Web of Science databases were searched for published studies. EBSCO Open Dissertations, EThOS (British Library), the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (Global ETD), and Google Scholar were searched for gray literature. Databases were searched from inception to April 2020, and all languages were considered for inclusion. All studies identified by the search were examined against the inclusion criteria. Papers selected for inclusion were assessed by 2 independent reviewers for methodological quality prior to inclusion in the review. Qualitative research findings were extracted and pooled. Findings were assembled and categorized based on similarity in meaning. These categories were then subjected to a meta-synthesis in order to produce a single comprehensive set of synthesized findings. RESULTS Seven studies with a total of 214 participants were included in the review. Most of the studies (5/7) were of moderate to high quality, following critical appraisal. From these studies, 53 findings were extracted and grouped into 14 categories. Four synthesized findings were compiled by aggregating the categories. Broadly, these synthesized findings related to the unique relationships formed between peers, benefits for both parties, essential intervention components, and barriers to implementation. CONCLUSIONS This was the first systematic review to summarize the experience of participating in a peer-support intervention for adults with chronic non-cancer pain. The synthesized findings from this review can be used by organizations to develop and implement peer-support interventions for adults with chronic non-cancer pain. Another main finding is the lack of research in this area, as only 7 studies were included after a comprehensive search. Furthermore, no evidence was found in the areas of intervention format, length of intervention, or frequency of contact between peer-support volunteers and participants. As such, these areas require further research. The generalizability of the included studies is also limited, as the studies represented only 4 countries (Canada, China, the United Kingdom, and the United States). The results, therefore, present the experiences of people from high-income settings and may not be contextualized to low- and middle-income countries; this warrants further research to be conducted in the latter countries. Abstract
BACKGROUND The management of people affected by age-related neurological disorders requires the adoption of targeted and cost-effective interventions to cope with chronicity. Therapy adaptation and rehabilitation represent major targets requiring long-term follow-up of neurodegeneration or, conversely, the promotion of neuroplasticity mechanisms. However, affordable and reliable neurophysiological correlates of cerebral activity to be used throughout treatment stages are often lacking. The aim of this systematic review is to highlight actual applications of functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) as a versatile optical neuroimaging technology for investigating cortical hemodynamic activity in the most common chronic neurological conditions. METHODS We reviewed studies investigating fNIRS applications in Parkinson's Disease (PD), Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) as those focusing on motor and cognitive impairment in ageing and Multiple Sclerosis (MS) as the most common chronic neurological disease in young adults. The literature search was conducted on NCBI PubMed and Web of Science databases by PRISMA guidelines. RESULTS We identified a total of 63 peer-reviewed articles. The AD spectrum is the most investigated pathology with 40 articles ranging from the traditional monitoring of tissue oxygenation to the analysis of functional resting-state conditions or cognitive functions by means of memory and verbal fluency tasks. Conversely, applications in PD (12 articles) and MS (11 articles) are mainly focused on the characterization of motor functions and their association with dual-task conditions. The most investigated cortical area is the prefrontal cortex, since reported to play an important role in age-related compensatory mechanism and neurofunctional changes associated to these chronic neurological conditions. Interestingly, only 9 articles applied a longitudinal approach. CONCLUSION The results indicate that fNIRS is mainly employed for the cross-sectional characterization of the clinical phenotypes of these pathologies, whereas data on its utility for longitudinal monitoring as surrogate biomarkers of disease progression and rehabilitation effects are promising but still lacking.

Abstract
Abstract Introduction: Home-based programmes have received increasing attention in rehabilitation, providing an opportunity to continue aspects of therapy, benefiting the retention of established intervention effects. Objective: To describe the available home-based physiotherapy programmes in neurorehabilitation for people with neurological diseases. Method: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, OTseeker and PEDro were searched, no restrictions regarding the date of publication or language restrictions for randomized controlled clinical trial. The quality of the selected studies using the PEDro scale and the Cochrane Collaboration’s tool for assessing the risk of bias. Results: Fifteen articles met the eligibility criteria and quality assessment and were selected for the present systematic review. The findings supports the positive impact of home-based intervention, finding evidence in the changes in activity level, improvement in the control and muscle strength, balance and walking in patients with neurological conditions who perform rehabilitation program at home, with a good adherence of participants in total. Conclusion: Models of rehabilitative such as home-based programmes can be an alternative efficient method to deliver rehabilitation, showing to be beneficial in improving different aspects of activities, and participation.
