Abstract
AIM To gain insights into the global research hotspots and trends of myopia. METHODS Articles were downloaded from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2022 from the Science Core Database website and were mainly statistically analyzed by bibliometrics software. RESULTS A total of 444 institutions in 87 countries published 4124 articles. Between 2013 and 2022, China had the highest number of publications (n=1865) and the highest H-index (61). Sun Yat-sen University had the highest number of publications (n=229) and the highest H-index (33). Ophthalmology is the main category in related journals. Citations from 2020 to 2022 highlight keywords of options and reference, child health (pediatrics), myopic traction mechanism, public health, and machine learning, which represent research frontiers. CONCLUSION Myopia has become a hot research field. China and Chinese institutions have the strongest academic influence in the field from 2013 to 2022. The main driver of myopic research is still medical or ophthalmologists. This study highlights the importance of public health in addressing the global rise in myopia, especially its impact on children's health. At present, a unified theoretical system is still needed. Accurate surgical and therapeutic solutions must be proposed for people with different characteristics to manage and intervene refractive errors. In addition, the benefits of artificial intelligence (AI) models are also reflected in disease monitoring and prediction.

Abstract
Objective This bibliometric analysis and review aimed to examine the current research status and trends in the combination of nutrition and exercise training for sarcopenia. Additionally, it sought to provide researchers with future research directions in this field. Methods Relevant publications were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database, covering the period from January 1995 to October 2023. The collected publications were analyzed using CiteSpace, VOSviewer, Bibliometrix, and Review Manager. Results Out of the 2528 retrieved publications, the United States emerged as the leading contributor in terms of publication volume. The University of Texas System was identified as the most productive institution. Luc J C van Loon emerged as the most published author in this field. Analysis of keywords revealed recent hot topics and emerging areas of interest, such as "gut microbiota" and "mechanisms". Upon further evaluation, resistance training (RT) and protein supplementation were identified as the most commonly employed and effective methods. Conclusion RT and protein supplementation are widely recognized as effective strategies. Future research should focus on investigating the molecular aspects of sarcopenia. Moreover, the potential therapeutic role of gut microbiota in sarcopenia requires further comprehensive investigation in human subjects to establish its correlation.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate the objective visual outcomes following implantation of extended depth of focus intraocular lens (EDOF IOL) in individuals with varying axial lengths (AL) and targeted refraction. METHODS This retrospective study comprised age-matched eyes that underwent implantation of the EDOF IOL. Eyes were categorized based on AL into groups: control group with AL < 26 mm; high myopia group with AL ≥ 26 mm. Each group was then subdivided based on postoperative spherical equivalent (SE). Follow-up at three months included assessment of uncorrected visual acuity at different distances, contrast sensitivity (CS), refractive outcomes, and spectacle independence. RESULTS Overall, this study included 100 eyes from 100 patients, comprising 50 males (50.00%) and 50 females (50.00%), with 20 eyes in each group. In the control group, the uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) at 5 and 3 m (m) in the - 1.50 to -0.75 group was inferior to that of the - 0.75 to 0.00 group (P = 0.004). Conversely, the uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) at 33 cm in the - 1.50 to -0.75 group was superior to that of the - 0.75 to 0.00 group (P = 0.005). Within the high myopia group, the UDVA at 5 and 3 m in the - 2.25 to -1.50 group was worse than in the - 0.75 to 0.00 group (P = 0.009 and 0.008, respectively). However, the UNVA at 33 cm in the - 2.25 to -1.50 group was better than in the - 0.75 to 0.00 group (P = 0.020). No significant differences were observed among the groups for corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) (P > 0.05). Additionally, in the high myopia group, the CS of the - 2.25 to -1.50 group was lower compared to that of the - 0.75 to 0.00 group (P = 0.017). Among high myopia patients, 90.00% with refraction ranging from - 1.50 to -0.75 reported achieving overall spectacle independence. CONCLUSIONS Implantation of extended depth of focus intraocular lenses (IOLs) yields satisfactory visual and refractive outcomes in eyes with axial myopia. Among high myopia patients, a refraction ranging from - 1.50 to -0.75 diopters achieves superior visual quality compared to other postoperative myopic diopters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is the most frequent endocrine disorder in female adults, and hyperandrogenism (HA) is the typical endocrine feature of PCOS. This study aims to investigate the trends and hotspots in the study of PCOS and HA. METHODS Literature on Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) from 2008 to 2022 was retrieved, and bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software. RESULTS A total of 2,404 papers were published in 575 journals by 10,121 authors from 2,434 institutions in 86 countries. The number of publications in this field is generally on the rise yearly. The US, China and Italy contributed almost half of the publications. Monash University had the highest number of publications, while the University of Adelaide had the highest average citations and the Karolinska Institute had the strongest cooperation with other institutions. Lergo RS contributed the most to the field of PCOS and HA. The research on PCOS and HA mainly focused on complications, adipose tissue, inflammation, granulosa cells, gene and receptor expression. CONCLUSION Different countries, institutions, and authors should facilitate cooperation and exchanges. This study will be helpful for better understanding the frontiers and hotspots in the areas of PCOS and HA.

Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has found rapidly growing applications in ophthalmology, achieving robust recognition and classification in most kind of ocular diseases. Ophthalmic surgery is one of the most delicate microsurgery, requiring high fineness and stability of surgeons. The massive demand of the AI assist ophthalmic surgery will constitute an important factor in boosting accelerate precision medicine. In clinical practice, it is instrumental to update and review the considerable evidence of the current AI technologies utilized in the investigation of ophthalmic surgery involved in both the progression and innovation of precision medicine. Bibliographic databases including PubMed and Google Scholar were searched using keywords such as "ophthalmic surgery", "surgical selection", "candidate screening", and "robot-assisted surgery" to find articles about AI technology published from 2018 to 2023. In addition to the Editorials and letters to the editor, all types of approaches are considered. In this paper, we will provide an up-to-date review of artificial intelligence in eye surgery, with a specific focus on its application to candidate screening, surgery selection, postoperative prediction, and real-time intraoperative guidance.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The aim of this study was to provide an update on perioperative considerations in the evaluation and management of patients undergoing primary corneal and intraocular refractive procedures who are at risk for progressive glaucomatous optic neuropathy. RECENT FINDINGS The necessity of a comprehensive baseline assessment prior to refractive procedures with structural and functional testing, along with documentation of preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements, is highlighted in recent literature. Substantiation of the increased risk of postoperative IOP elevation in keratorefractive procedures in patients with higher baseline IOP and lower baseline CCT, but not necessarily the degree of myopia, has been variably evidenced. Tonometry methods which are less influenced by postoperative corneal structural change should be considered in patients undergoing keratorefractive procedures. Vigilence in postoperative monitoring for progressive optic neuropathy is suggested given evidence of an increased risk of steroid-response glaucoma in these patients. Additional evidence for the IOP-lowering impact of cataract surgery in patients with an increased risk of glaucoma is provided, irrespective of intraocular lens choice. SUMMARY Performing refractive procedures on patients at risk for glaucoma remains controversial. Definitive steps to optimize patient selection along with vigilance in disease state monitoring with longitudinal structural and functional testing can help mitigate potential adverse events.

Abstract
AIM To investigate the progression of myopia and risk factors among university students in central China. METHODS A total of 7359 first-year undergraduate students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in central China were recruited to the study and invited to a centralized clinic for medical examination, including optometry, and re-examined after one year. Correlation analyses were performed to assess the associations between one-year myopia progression and various parameters. RESULTS The spherical equivalent refraction for the overall population was -3.14±2.28 D at baseline. The rate of myopia progression over 0.50 D after one year was 41.9%, and the 1-year progression of myopia was -0.47±0.58 D. There was no difference of mean 1-year myopia progression between male and female or difference among age group. The myopia progression of original myopia was severer than progression of new-onset myopia. There was also difference of mean myopia progression among different degrees of myopia at baseline. The under corrected eyes had a higher percentage of myopia progression than well corrected eyes (χ 2=7.90, P<0.01). There was no correlation between myopia progression and height, weight, body mass index, hemoglobin (Spearman correlation, ρ=-0.078, -0.152, -0.170, -0.096, respectively, all P>0.05). CONCLUSION Myopes still progress in undergraduate students, especially in high myopes.

Abstract
Background: Heat stress remains a major environmental factor affecting poultry production. With growing concerns surrounding climate change and its antecedent of global warming, research on heat stress in poultry has gradually gained increased attention. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the current status, identify the research frontiers, and highlight the research trends on heat stress in poultry research using bibliometric analysis. Methods: The literature search was performed on the Web of Science Core Collection database for documents published from 2000 to 2021. The documents retrieved were analyzed for their publication counts, countries, institutions, keywords, sources, funding, and citation records using the bibliometric app on R software. Network analysis for co-authorship, co-occurrence, citation, co-citation, and bibliographic coupling was visualized using the VOSviewer software. Results: A total of 468 publications were retrieved, and over the past two decades, there was a gradual increase in the annual number of publications (average growth rate: 4.56%). China had the highest contribution with respect to the number of publications, top contributing authors, collaborations, funding agencies, and institutions. Nanjing Agricultural University, China was the most prolific institution. Kazim Sahin from Firat University, Turkey contributed the highest number of publications and citations to heat stress in poultry research, and Poultry Science was the most productive and the most cited journal. The top 10 globally cited documents mainly focused on the effects of heat stress, alleviation of heat stress, and the association between heat stress and oxidative stress in poultry. All keywords were grouped into six clusters which included studies on "growth performance", "intestinal morphology", "heat stress", "immune response", "meat quality", and "oxidative stress" as current research hotspots. In addition, topics such as; "antioxidants", "microflora", "intestinal barrier", "rna-seq", "animal welfare", "gene expression", "probiotics", "feed restriction", and "inflammatory pathways" were identified for future research attention. Conclusion: This bibliometric study provides a detailed and comprehensive analysis of the global research trends on heat stress in poultry over the last two decades, and it is expected to serve as a useful reference for potential research that will help address the impacts of heat stress on poultry production globally.

Abstract
Purpose To determine the role of calcipotriol, a vitamin D3 analogue, in myopia development and altering the expression of scleral α1 chain of type I collagen (Col1α1) in mice. We also aimed to identify if the signaling pathway mediating the above changes is different from the one involved in transforming growth factor β2 (TGF-β2)-mediated increases of COL1A1 in cultured human scleral fibroblasts (HSFs). Methods C57BL/6J mice were either intraperitoneally injected with calcipotriol and subjected to form deprivation (FD) or exposed to normal refractive development for 4 weeks. Scleral vitamin D receptor (Vdr) expression was knocked down using a Sub-Tenon's capsule injection of an adeno-associated virus-packaged short hairpin RNA (AAV8-shRNA). Refraction and biometric measurements evaluated myopia development. A combination of knockdown and induction strategies determined the relative contributions of the vitamin D3 and the TGF-β2 signaling pathways in modulating COL1A1 expression in HSFs. Results Calcipotriol injections suppressed FD-induced myopia (FDM), but it had no significant effect on normal refractive development. AAV8-shRNA injection reduced Vdr mRNA expression by 42% and shifted the refraction toward myopia (-3.15 ± 0.99D, means ± SEM) in normal eyes. In HSFs, VDR knockdown reduced calcipotriol-induced rises in COL1A1 expression, but it did not alter TGF-β2-induced increases in COL1A1 expression. Additionally, TGF-β2 augmented calcipotriol-induced rises in COL1A1 expression. TGF-β receptor (TGFBRI/II) knockdown blunted TGF-β2-induced increases in COL1A1 expression, whereas calcipotriol-induced increases in VDR and COL1A1 expression levels were unaltered. Conclusions Scleral vitamin D3 inhibits myopia development in mice, potentially by activating a VDR-dependent signaling pathway and increasing scleral COL1A1 expression levels.

Comparisons of objective and subjective refraction with and without cycloplegia using binocular wavefront optometer with autorefraction and retinoscopy in school-age children. Abstract
Purpose
To compare school-age children’s objective and subjective refraction using a binocular wavefront optometer (BWFOM) with autorefraction and retinoscopy before and after cycloplegia.
Methods
Eighty-six eyes from 86 children (6–15 years old) were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. BWFOM objective and subjective refractions were compared with autorefraction and retinoscopy under cycloplegia. BWFOM refraction was evaluated before and after cycloplegia. Measurements were compared using a paired t-test; agreement was assessed using Bland–Altman plots.
Results
Under cycloplegia, the sphere, spherical equivalence, and J45 were significantly more negative on BWFOM objective refraction than autorefraction (− 1.39 ± 2.20 D vs. − 1.28 ± 2.23 D, P = 0.003; − 1.84 ± 2.38 D vs. − 1.72 ± 2.43 D, P = 0.001; − 0.02 ± 0.17 D vs. 0.03 ± 0.21 D, P = 0.004). The subjective sphere of BWFOM was less myopic, and the cylinder and the J45 were more negative than those with retinoscopy (− 1.17 ± 2.09 D vs. − 1.25 ± 2.20 D, P = 0.02; − 0.91 ± 0.92 D vs. − 0.76 ± 0.92 D, P < 0.001; − 0.01 ± 0.15 D vs. 0.03 ± 0.21 D, P = 0.028). For both BWFOM objective and subjective refraction, sphere and spherical equivalence with noncycloplegia were more myopic than those with cycloplegia (objective: − 1.76 ± 2.10 D vs. − 1.39 ± 2.20 D, − 2.21 ± 2.30 D vs. − 1.84 ± 2.38 D, P < 0.001; subjective: − 1.57 ± 1.92 D vs. − 1.17 ± 2.09 D, − 2.01 ± 2.13 D vs. − 1.62 ± 2.27 D, P < 0.001). Bland–Altman plots showed good agreement in spherical equivalence between BWFOM objective refraction and autorefraction (mean difference = 0.12 D, 95% confidence interval [CI] − 0.52 to 0.76), subjective refraction with retinoscopy (mean difference = − 0.01 D, 95% CI − 0.65 to 0.64), and BWFOM refractions with or without cycloplegia (objective: mean difference = − 0.37 D, 95% CI − 1.31 to 0.57; subjective: mean difference = − 0.39 D, 95% CI − 1.30 to 0.51). The time cost by BWFOM was significantly less than the total time of autorefraction and retinoscopy (264.88 ± 90.67 s vs. 315.89 ± 95.31 s, P < 0.001).
Conclusion
BWFOM is a new device that realizes both objective and subjective refraction. For children’s refractive errors, it is more convenient and quicker to obtain the proper prescription at a 0.05-D interval, and it is more accurate than autorefraction and retinoscopy under cycloplegia.

Abstract
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) associated with anxiety or depression is ubiquitous in clinical practice, and multiple related articles have been published. However, studies that utilize bibliometric analyses to address this topic are rare. In our study, we aimed to reveal research trends in IBS with anxiety or depression. Publications on IBS in relation to anxiety or depression in the last 20 years were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). CiteSpace software (5.8.R3) and GraphPad Prism 8 were used to perform bibliometric analysis of authors, countries, institutions, journals, keywords, and references involved in this topic. A total of 2,562 publications from 716 academic journals were included in this study. The majority of publications (n = 833, 32.51%) were from the USA, and the University of California, Los Angeles, contributed the most publications (n = 97, 3.79%). Active cooperations among countries and institutions were observed. Neurogastroenterology and Motility [impact factor (IF) 2020 = 3.598] published the most papers (170 publications, 6.64%), followed by Alimentary Pharmacology Therapeutics (IF 2020 = 8.171; 88 publications; 3.44%). The literatures related to IBS and anxiety or depression were primarily published in journals related to medicine/medical/clinical, neurology/sports/ophthalmology, and molecular/biology/immunology. Cryan JF and Drossman DA, with the largest number of articles (84 publications) and citations (917 citations), respectively, were considered as the most influential authors in this field. A total of 336 co-cited references were divided into 17 clusters, and #1 fecal microbiota transplantation contained most of the documents published in recent years. Moreover, the keyword "psychosocial factor" had the largest burst strength of 13.52, followed by the keyword "gut microbiota" with a burst strength of 11.71. This study shows the research performance of IBS related to anxiety or depression from 2002 to 2021 and helps researchers master the trend in this field, which should receive more attention.

Abstract
Background Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common clinical disease often associated with insulin resistance (IR). The interaction between PCOS and IR will promote the progress of PCOS and the risk of related complications, harm women's physical and mental health, and increase the social and economic burden. Materials and Methods PCOS IR-related works of literature were retrieved through the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) Database and imported into VOSviewer and CiteSpace, respectively, in plain text format to conduct the literature visualization analysis of authors, countries, institutions, highly cited works of literature, and keywords, aiming to reveal the hot spots and trends of PCOS IR fields. Results A total of 7,244 articles were retrieved from 1900 to 2022. Among them, the United States has made the largest contribution. Diamanti-Kandarakis E was the author with the most publications, and the University of Athens was the institution with most publications. Keyword analysis showed that PCOS interacts with IR mainly through sex-hormone binding globulin, luteinizing hormone, insulin-like growth factor, oxidative stress, and other mechanisms. In addition, the complications of PCOS complicated with IR are also the focus of researchers' attention. Conclusions Through bibliometric analysis, this paper obtains the research hotspot and trend of PCOS IR fields, which can provide a reference for subsequent research.

Abstract
Background: Myopia has become a public health issue worldwide. The fast increase in myopia prevalence in the last years has been accompanied by an increase in information through social and conventional media. This has led to the fight not only against a pandemic but also against the infodemic. The excess of information has made it increasingly difficult for health professionals to identify high-quality articles. Alternative Metrics are useful tools to identify publications that provoke attention to society. This research aims to study the impact that research on myopia has had on social media. Methods: Almetric Explorer was used to make a search using “myopia” as a keyword. The 100 outputs with the highest attention were analyzed and correlated with the number of cites on Web of Science using Spearman’s correlation coefficient. Results: The top 100 Altmetric Attention Score were published in 47 journals and had a mean value of Altmetric Attention Score of 437.61 ± 718.33. The outputs were mostly discussed on Twitter, with a mean of 296.36 ± 1585.58 tweets and retweets, and a mean of 185.18 ± 211.57 readers in Mendeley. There was a low correlation between Altmetric Attention Score and Web of Science Cites for the top-100 outputs. Conclusions: although myopia is a research topic with a high interest in society, most cited articles are not those with the most impact on social media. Myopia researchers should make more effort in promoting their goals, and social media is a useful tool to share them.
