Abstract
To promote safe supplement use, athletes are advised to choose third-party tested (TPT) supplements to minimise doping risk. This study evaluated changes in knowledge on supplements in US high school athletes from a 2-week online supplement education programme. One group of sophomores (ED, n = 48) completed a Canvas course on safe supplement use, based on the Theory of Planned Behaviour, while the other group of freshmen (NOED, n = 38) did not. Participants completed questionnaires pre- and post-intervention to assess practical knowledge of finding and ordering TPT supplements, familiarity with World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) banned substances and decision-making in supplement purchasing. Chi-Square and McNemar tests were applied with significance set at p ≤ 0.05. Pre-intervention no differences were found between groups (ages 14-17 years, 39.5% female) for any knowledge questions (p = 0.18). Post-intervention, ED participants were more likely to know where to find (58.3% vs. 39.5%, p = 0.041), and order (62.5% vs. 28.9%, p = 0.001) TPT supplements, and more athletes in ED (72.9%) than NOED (40.0%) reported deciding to purchase supplements themselves (p = 0.015). Parents were less influential in ED (75.0% vs. 92.1%, p = 0.019). Importantly, positive changes over time were larger for ED versus NOED in knowing where to find (28% vs. 13%, p = 0.04) and order (28% vs. 7%, p < 0.001) TPT supplements and WADA familiarity (19% vs. 5%, p = 0.01). Within-group changes showed ED improved on all practical knowledge questions (p = <0.001-0.008), whereas NOED only increased in knowing where to find TPT supplements (p = 0.003). These findings suggest an online educational programme may enhance practical knowledge of safe supplement use among high school athletes.

Abstract
In recent years, the consumption of dietary supplements, particularly those incorporating plant-based ingredients, has increased greatly, driven by the perception of their natural origins and purported minimal health risks. However, one significant safety concern revolves around the adulteration of dietary supplements, wherein unscrupulous manufacturers may illegally incorporate pharmaceutical substances or their analogs into these products to achieve increased efficiency and bolster sales. This review assesses the role of capillary electrophoresis (CE) in ensuring the quality control of dietary supplement products over the past two decades. This study provides an overview of various applications of CE in analyzing dietary supplements, outlining the typical attributes of natural product analysis using CE. These analyses demonstrate the broad versatility of CE, exemplified by its diverse applications and detection modes. Moreover, the review highlights the growing prominence of CE as a separation technique in quality control, by comparison with more conventional methods like high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Through this exploration, the review elucidates the pivotal role of CE in upholding the integrity and safety of dietary supplements, in connection with a landscape of evolving regulatory challenges and consumer demands.

Abstract
Background: Excessive or improper use of dietary supplements (DSs) by athletes may cause adverse effects, such as impaired performance or failing a doping test, making it important for athletes to mitigate risk and make well-informed choices when using supplements. Methods: This study used focus group interviews to examine the attitudes, motivations, and practices related to DSs among male elite ice hockey players. Results: The players used a wide range of products, ranging from vitamins to multi-ingredient pre-workout supplements. Consuming DSs was considered as a practical and convenient way to ingest sufficient calories to gain or maintain the body weight and muscle mass needed to meet the physical requirements of the sport. The athletes demonstrated a lenient and ignorant attitude when acquiring and using supplements, with a non-critical trust in the guidance provided to them by the coach or physician. Having completed basic anti-doping education in the form of an e-learning program did not appear to result in taking a more careful approach to using DSs. Conclusions: Through their DS practices, elite ice hockey players may put themselves at risk for anti-doping rule violations. A comprehensive approach is needed when aiming to prevent unintentional doping in this athlete cohort.

Abstract
Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) constitute a significant public health issue and a major source of disability and death in the United States and worldwide. TBIs are strongly associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, resulting in a host of negative health outcomes and long-term complications and placing a heavy financial burden on healthcare systems. One promising avenue for the prevention and treatment of brain injuries is the design of TBI-specific supplementation and dietary protocols centred around nutraceuticals and biochemical compounds whose mechanisms of action have been shown to interfere with, and potentially alleviate, some of the neurophysiological processes triggered by TBI. For example, evidence suggests that creatine monohydrate and omega-3 fatty acids (DHA and EPA) help decrease inflammation, reduce neural damage and maintain adequate energy supply to the brain following injury. Similarly, melatonin supplementation may improve some of the sleep disturbances often experienced post-TBI. The scope of this narrative review is to summarise the available literature on the neuroprotective effects of selected nutrients in the context of TBI-related outcomes and provide an evidence-based overview of supplementation and dietary protocols that may be considered in individuals affected by-or at high risk for-concussion and more severe head traumas. Prophylactic and/or therapeutic compounds under investigation include creatine monohydrate, omega-3 fatty acids, BCAAs, riboflavin, choline, magnesium, berry anthocyanins, Boswellia serrata, enzogenol, N-Acetylcysteine and melatonin. Results from this analysis are also placed in the context of assessing and addressing important health-related and physiological parameters in the peri-impact period such as premorbid nutrient and metabolic health status, blood glucose regulation and thermoregulation following injury, caffeine consumption and sleep behaviours. As clinical evidence in this research field is rapidly emerging, a comprehensive approach including appropriate nutritional interventions has the potential to mitigate some of the physical, neurological, and emotional damage inflicted by TBIs, promote timely and effective recovery, and inform policymakers in the development of prevention strategies.

Abstract
In this paper, the development and application of a multiple heart-cutting achiral-chiral LC-LC method (mLC-LC) for the analysis of dansylated (Dns) branched-chain amino acids in commercial tablets are described. In the first dimension, a Waters Xbridge RP C18 achiral column was used under gradient conditions with buffered aqueous solution and acetonitrile. The elution order Dns-valine (Dns-Val) < Dns-isoleucine (Dns-Ile) < Dns-leucine (Dns-Leu) turned out with full resolution between adjacent peaks: 7.25 and 1.50 for the Val/Ile and the Ile/Leu pairs, respectively. A "research" validation study was performed, revealing high accuracy (Recovery%) and precision (RSD%) using two external set solutions, respectively, in the range 93.7%-104.1% and 0.4%-3.2%. The C18 column was connected via a two-position six-port switching valve to the quinidine-based Chiralpak quinidine-anion-exchange chiral column. A water/acetonitrile, 30/70 (v/v) with 50 mM ammonium acetate (apparent pH of 5.5) eluent allowed getting the three enantiomers' pairs resolved: RS equal to 4.3 for Dns-Val and Dns-Ile, and 1.7 for Dns-Leu. The application of the mLC-LC method confirmed that the content of Val, Ile, and Leu in the tablets was compliant with that labeled by the producer. Only l-enantiomers were found in the food supplement, as confirmed by LC-MS/MS analysis.
