Abstract
Background and Aim Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), a highly pathogenic ribonucleic acid (RNA) virus, causes devastating financial losses and reproductive deaths among dairy cattle in Yogyakarta and globally. This study aimed to identify point mutations within the E2 structural protein of the acquired BVD virus (BVDV) isolates using genetic analysis. Materials and Methods The study period shows that we performed the research in 2023. We collected 118 serum samples from 2019 to 2023, among which only 10 BVDV positive were used and 108 were negative lacking the BVDV antigen. An anti-Erns monoclonal antibody-coated protein was used in indirect antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (I-ACE) to detect the BVD antigen present in positive BVDV serum specimens. In the initial step of the two-step reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, the enzyme (superscript III reverse transcriptase) and the primer (random hexamer) were used to convert the RNA of the BVDV into complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) during the process of reverse transcription. The final step involved the amplification of the E2 gene of the resultant BVDV cDNA through gene-specific primers (E2_fwd: 5'-TGGTGGCCTTATGAGAC-3' and P7_rev: 5'-CCCATCATCACTATTTCACC-3') and enzyme (platinum taq DNA polymerase high fidelity). For conducting Sanger sequencing, those 3 BVDV-1-positive isolates (about 2.6% of all isolates) were selected as a typical specimen for each site and year between 2019 and 2023 using a proportional computation. Therefore, only two BVDV isolates with complete genomes were chosen to perform their homological and genetic analysis based on the E2 gene by means of Blast and MEGA Version 11 in addition to the Bioedit 7.2.5 program. Results By applying phylogenetic analysis relying on the E2 gene, a sum of 1011 nucleotides of the BVDV-1 isolates derived from each of the two BVDV-1 Indonesian isolates (n = 2) and its 23 reference BVDV strains were acquired from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) database. The findings of the genetic analysis inside the phylogenetic tree revealed that the two BVDV Indonesian isolates were clustered into BVDV-1a subgenotype, while the reference BVDV strains were clustered into the five BVDV subgenotype, BVDV-1a (n = 6), BVDV-1b (n = 3), BVDV-1c (n = 11), BVDV-1m (n = 1), and BVDV-1n (n = 2). The branch exists in phylogenetic tree located before the division of our two BVDV isolates was divided into two branches with the same maximum bootstrap values of 99%, indicating a high degree of confidence, was seen. Next, we observed the branch near our study samples, which displayed the bootstrap value of 100, indicating that our 02 isolates were identical. In both isolates, V11 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 and V16 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 with GenBank accession numbers PP836388 and PP836389, respectively, conserved D7E residues were mutated as well as cysteine changed/altered into serine (S) was identified at amino acid position 201. Conclusion We identified two isolates of BVDV belonging to the BVDV-1a subgenotype. Our findings indicate that the conserved D7E residues of isolates V11 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 and V16 BVDV1/Indonesia/Yogyakarta/2023 were altered. The Indonesian BVDV isolates exhibited a cysteine to serine mutation at amino acid position 201, leads to vaccination failure, range of animal's host will increase, and diagnostic kit will not be effective.

Abstract
Bovine respiratory disease complex, a complex respiratory ailment in cattle, results from a combination of viral and bacterial factors, compounded by environmental stressors such as overcrowding, transportation, and adverse weather conditions. Its impact extends beyond mere health concerns, posing significant economic threats to the cattle industry. This study presents an extensive investigation into viral pathogens associated with BRDC in Serbian cattle, utilizing serum samples and nasal swabs. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2024 across 65 randomly selected dairy farms in Serbia, excluding farms with vaccinated cattle. The farms were categorized by their livestock count: small (≤50 animals), medium (51-200 animals), and large (>200 animals). Serum samples from adult cattle older than 24 months were tested for antibodies against BVDV, BHV-1, BRSV, and BPIV3. Nasal swab samples from the animals with respiratory signs were tested using PCR for viral genome detection. The results showed seropositivity for all four viruses across all of the farms, with BPIV3 exhibiting universal seropositivity. Medium-sized and large farms demonstrated higher levels of seropositivity for BRSV and BHV-1 compared to small farms (p < 0.05). Our true seroprevalence estimates at the animal level were 84.29% for BRSV, 54.08% for BVDV, 90.61% for BHV-1, and 84.59% for BPIV3. A PCR analysis of the nasal swabs revealed positive detections for BRSV (20%), BHV-1 (1.7%), BVDV (8%), and BPIV3 (10.9%). Influenza D virus was not found in any of the samples. This study provides critical insights into the prevalence and circulation of viral pathogens associated with BRDC in Serbian cattle, emphasizing the importance of surveillance and control measures to mitigate the impact of respiratory diseases in cattle populations.

Abstract
A significant gap in exposure data for most livestock and zoonotic pathogens is common for several Latin America deer species. This study examined the seroprevalence against 13 pathogens in 164 wild and captive southern pudu from Chile between 2011 and 2023. Livestock and zoonotic pathogen antibodies were detected in 22 of 109 wild pudus (20.18%; 95% CI: 13.34-29.18) and 17 of 55 captive pudus (30.91%; 95% CI: 19.52-44.96), including five Leptospira interrogans serovars (15.38% and 10.71%), Toxoplasma gondii (8.57% and 37.50%), Chlamydia abortus (3.03% and 12.82%), Neospora caninum (0.00% and 9.52%), and Pestivirus (8.00% and 6.67%). Risk factors were detected for Leptospira spp., showing that fawn pudu have statistically significantly higher risk of positivity than adults. In the case of T. gondii, pudu living in "free-range" have a lower risk of being positive for this parasite. In under-human-care pudu, a Pestivirus outbreak is the most strongly suspected as the cause of abortions in a zoo in the past. This study presents the first evidence of Chlamydia abortus in wildlife in South America and exposure to T. gondii, L. interrogans, and N. caninum in wild ungulate species in Chile. High seroprevalence of livestock pathogens such as Pestivirus and Leptospira Hardjo in wild animals suggests a livestock transmission in Chilean template forest.

Abstract
Introduction Bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) brings great economic loss to the cattle industry worldwide. Developing a control/prevention strategy requires the prior assessment of certain epidemiological parameters. To determine the BVD incidence rate and associated risk factors, a dairy cattle herd in the eastern region of Saudi Arabia was monitored between 2020 and 2022. Methods Nasal swabs (n = 190), rectal swabs (n = 190), and sera (n = 190) were collected from 79 cows in this herd. Collected sera and swabs were tested using the commercially available ELISAs for the BVDV antibodies and antigens, respectively. Collected sera were also tested for the presence of BVDV nucleic acids using commercial real-time RT-PCR kits. Results and discussion Our data show BVDV seroprevalence (18.8%, 15%, and 8.2%) in the tested animals in 2020-2022, respectively. None of the collected nasal swabs, rectal swabs, or sera tested positive for the BVDV antigen, whereas 10.1%, 10%, and 18.1% of the tested sera were positive for BVDV nucleic acid in 2020-2022, respectively. The incidence rate was estimated at 0.02446 new cases/year despite the detection of BVDV in seronegative animals on single or two occasions at ≥6-month intervals. Young calves and bulls remained apparently unexposed to BVDV despite their presence with BVDV-infected females, with no significant physical separation. Both seropositivity and nucleic acid detectability showed significant positive and negative correlations, respectively, with reproductive performance. Collectively, the present study provides useful clues about the transmissibility of BVDV in the presence of possibly persistently infected animals. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first longitudinal study of BVDV in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia. Further detailed characterization of the circulating BVDVs is encouraged.

Abstract
Infectious diseases of cattle, including bovine viral diarrhea (BVD), pose a significant health threat to the global livestock industry. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and risk factors associated with bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infections in cattle populations through a systematic review and meta-analysis. PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus were systematically searched for relevant articles reporting the prevalence of and associated risk factors in studies published between 1 January 2000 and 3 February 2023. From a total of 5111 studies screened, 318 studies were included in the final analysis. BVDV prevalence in cattle populations was estimated using various detection methods. The analysis detected heterogeneity in prevalence, attributed to detection techniques and associated risk factors. Antibody detection methods exhibited a higher prevalence of 0.43, reflecting the cumulative effect of detecting both active and past infections. Antigen detection methods showed a prevalence of 0.05, which was lower than antibody methods. A prevalence of 0.08 was observed using nucleic acid detection methods. The health status of the examined cattle significantly influenced the prevalence of BVDV. Cattle with bovine respiratory disease complex (BRDC) exhibited higher antibody (prevalence of 0.67) and antigen (prevalence 0.23) levels compared to cattle with reproductive problems (prevalence 0.13) or diarrhea (prevalence 0.01). Nucleic acid detection methods demonstrated consistent rates across different health conditions. Age of cattle influenced prevalence, with higher rates in adults compared to calves. Risk factors related to breeding and reproduction, such as natural or extensive breeding and a history of abortion, were associated with increased prevalence. Coinfections with pathogens like bovine herpesvirus-1 or Neospora caninum were linked to higher BVDV prevalence. Management practices, such as commingling, introducing new cattle, and direct contact with neighboring farms, also influenced prevalence. Herd attributes, including larger herd size, and the presence of persistently infected cattle, were associated with higher prevalence. These findings indicated the importance of detection methods and risk factors in BVDV epidemiological studies.
