Genetic Artificial Hummingbird Algorithm-Support Vector Machine for Timely Power Theft Detection

Utilities face serious obstacles from power theft, which calls for creative ways to maintain income and improve operational effectiveness. This study presents a novel hybrid genetic artificial hummingbird algorithm-support vector machine classifier to detect power theft. The proposed algorithm combines the artificial hummingbird algorithm exploration phase with the genetic algorithm's mutation and crossover operators, to optimize the support vector machine's hyperparameters and categorize users as fraudulent or nonfraudulent. It utilizes 7,270 rows of labeled historical electricity consumption data from the Liberia Electricity Corporation over 15 independent runs. The methodology entailed data preprocessing, data split into training, validation, and testing sets in an 80-10-10 ratio, z-score normalization, optimization, training, validation, testing, and computation of six evaluation metrics. Its performance is compared with 13 metaheuristic classifiers and the conventional support vector machine. Findings indicate that the genetic artificial hummingbird algorithm-support vector machine outperforms the 13 rivals and the standard support vector machine in the six assessment measures with an accuracy score of 0.9986, precision of 0.9971, f_score of 0.9986, recall of 1, Matthews correlation coefficient of 0.9972, and g_mean of 0.9987. Furthermore, 90% of the time, Wilcoxon rank-sum tests revealed statistically significant differences between the algorithm and its rivals, demonstrating its superiority. The average run time is 4,656 seconds, the 3rd highest among its competitors. Despite the time complexity trade-off, its excellent performance on the unimodal and multimodal benchmark test functions, placing joint best in 7 out of 7 and 5 out of 6, respectively, provides important insights into the model's capacity to balance exploitation and exploration, improve local search, and avoid becoming stuck in the local optimum. These findings address important metaheuristic optimization gaps highlighting the model's potential for power theft detection.

Enhancing Medical Image Classification with an Advanced Feature Selection Algorithm: A Novel Approach to Improving the Cuckoo Search Algorithm by Incorporating Caputo Fractional Order

Glaucoma is a chronic eye condition that seriously impairs vision and requires early diagnosis and treatment. Automated detection techniques are essential for obtaining a timely diagnosis. In this paper, we propose a novel method for feature selection that integrates the cuckoo search algorithm with Caputo fractional order (CFO-CS) to enhance the performance of glaucoma classification. However, when using the infinite series, the Caputo definition has memory length truncation issues. Therefore, we suggest a fixed memory step and an adjustable term count for optimization. We conducted experiments integrating various feature extraction techniques, including histograms of oriented gradients (HOGs), local binary patterns (LBPs), and deep features from MobileNet and VGG19, to create a unified vector. We evaluate the informative features selected from the proposed method using the k-nearest neighbor. Furthermore, we use data augmentation to enhance the diversity and quantity of the training set. The proposed method enhances convergence speed and the attainment of optimal solutions during training. The results demonstrate superior performance on the test set, achieving 92.62% accuracy, 94.70% precision, 93.52% F1-Score, 92.98% specificity, 92.36% sensitivity, and 85.00% Matthew's correlation coefficient. The results confirm the efficiency of the proposed method, rendering it a generalizable and applicable technique in ophthalmology.

Integrated Scheduling of Picking and Distribution of Fresh Agricultural Products for Community Supported Agriculture Mode

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), which offers two outstanding advantages, high-quality food and localized production, has come to the fore. In CSA, the output of picking scheduling is the input of delivery scheduling. Hence, only by scheduling the picking stage and distribution stage in a coordinated way can we achieve fresh agricultural products at minimum cost. However, due to asymmetric information in the picking and distribution stage, the integrated scheduling of picking and distribution may lead to an asymmetric optimization problem, which is suitable for solving with an iterative algorithm. Based on this, this work studies an integrated scheduling problem of the picking and distribution of fresh agricultural products with the consideration of minimizing picking and distribution costs as well as maximizing the freshness of orders. First, a nonlinear mixed-integer programming model for the problem under consideration is constructed. Second, a multi-objective multi-population genetic algorithm with local search (MOPGA-LS) is designed. Finally, the algorithm is compared with three multi-objective optimization algorithms in the literature: the non-dominated sorted genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-Ⅱ), the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition (MOEA/D), and the multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on decomposition that is combined with the bee algorithm (MOEA/D-BA). The comparison results show the excellent performance of the designed algorithm. Thus, the reported model and algorithm can assist managers and engineers in making well-informed decisions in managing the farm operation.

An Aggressive Cuckoo Search Algorithm for Optimum Power Allocation in a CDMA-Based Cellular Network

This paper proposes an aggressive cuckoo search algorithm for optimum power allocation in a CDMA-based cellular network. To make the cuckoo search algorithm aggressive, adaptive parameters are used to vary the step size and probability of discovery. Furthermore, the Lévy flight is replaced with the Beta distribution to further improve the performance of the algorithm. To prove that the proposed algorithm is superior, the algorithm is tested on 23 benchmark test functions and its results are compared with those of 10 other standard optimization algorithms and 4 other advanced optimization algorithms. The performance of the proposed algorithm is proved via the statistical analysis of the results using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test. The proposed algorithm is then utilized in determining the optimal uplink power for multiple users in a CDMA-based cellular network in three different scenarios through Rician fading channels. The resultant allocated power should ensure that each mobile station meets its predetermined signal-to-interference-and-noise ratio while utilizing the least amount of power.

A novel enhanced cuckoo search algorithm for global optimization

Cuckoo search algorithm (CS) is an excellent nature-inspired algorithm that has been widely introduced to solve complex, multi-dimensional global optimization problems. However, the traditional CS algorithm has a low convergence speed and a poor balance between exploration and exploitation. In other words, the single search strategy of CS may make it easier to trap into local optimum and end in premature convergence. In this paper, we proposed a new variant of CS called Novel Enhanced CS Algorithm (NECSA) to overcome these drawbacks mentioned above inspired by the cuckoos’ behaviors in nature and other excellent search strategies employed in intelligent optimization algorithms. NECSA introduces several enhancement strategies, namely self-evaluation operation and modified greedy selection operation, to improve the searchability of the original CS algorithm. The former is proposed to enhance the exploration ability and ensure population diversity, and the latter is employed to enhance the exploitation ability and increase search efficiency. Besides, we introduced adaptive control parameter settings based on the fitness and iteration number to increase the convergence speed and the accuracy of the search process. The experimental results and analysis on the CEC2014 test have demonstrated the reliable performance of NECSA in comparison with the other five CS algorithm variants.

COVID-19 X-ray images classification based on enhanced fractional-order cuckoo search optimizer using heavy-tailed distributions

Classification of COVID-19 X-ray images to determine the patient’s health condition is a critical issue these days since X-ray images provide more information about the patient’s lung status. To determine the COVID-19 case from other normal and abnormal cases, this work proposes an alternative method that extracted the informative features from X-ray images, leveraging on a new feature selection method to determine the relevant features. As such, an enhanced cuckoo search optimization algorithm (CS) is proposed using fractional-order calculus (FO) and four different heavy-tailed distributions in place of the Lévy flight to strengthen the algorithm performance during dealing with COVID-19 multi-class classification optimization task. The classification process includes three classes, called normal patients, COVID-19 infected patients, and pneumonia patients. The distributions used are Mittag-Leffler distribution, Cauchy distribution, Pareto distribution, and Weibull distribution. The proposed FO-CS variants have been validated with eighteen UCI data-sets as the first series of experiments. For the second series of experiments, two data-sets for COVID-19 X-ray images are considered. The proposed approach results have been compared with well-regarded optimization algorithms. The outcomes assess the superiority of the proposed approach for providing accurate results for UCI and COVID-19 data-sets with remarkable improvements in the convergence curves, especially with applying Weibull distribution instead of Lévy flight.
