Abstract
Neurological complications are an important concern in patients undergoing chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy. Consensus guidelines inform the management of immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS). However, these guidelines are based on the early clinical experience with CD19 targeting CAR T cells in B-cell malignancies. In contrast, there are so far no published best practice recommendations on the current management of other non-classical neurological complications, which frequently develop after CAR T-cell infusion and cause clinically significant neurotoxicity. These non-classical neurological complications could be more prevalent because of additional CAR T-cell targets (eg, B cell maturation antigen [BCMA]), widened access, new indications in clinical development (including solid tumours in the CNS), and long-term follow-up. In this Review, the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) Practice Harmonisation and Guidelines Committee provides recommendations on the management of CAR T-cell associated neurological complications that occur after treatment with the licensed CD19 and BCMA CAR T cells, as well as neurological toxicities that are emerging with CAR T cells in clinical trials for solid and haematological cancers. We address movement and neurocognitive toxicity, cranial nerve palsies, tumour inflammation-associated neurotoxicity, stroke, myelopathy, peripheral neuropathy, Guillain-Barré syndrome, fludarabine-associated neurotoxicity, and provide guidance on the psychological support for patients. CNS infections were excluded. The guidelines were developed based on the currently available literature and expert opinion. Recommendations are provided when possible, and areas for further research are highlighted to provide a framework to improve patient care.

Abstract
Background/Objectives: To systematically evaluate scientific evidence related to the influence of psychological stress on the response to periodontal treatment. Methods: PubMed/NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information, US National Library of Medicine), Web of Science (ClarivateTM), EBSCOHost, SCOPUS, and ProQuest databases were searched for published clinical studies in English up to May 2024. The quality of each study was assessed using the Ottawa-Newcastle scale. Results: Of 803 relevant articles identified, 8 were included in the qualitative synthesis qualitative synthesis. These studies involved 445 patients who completed the follow-up period, ranging from 6 weeks to 6 months. Stressed patients were more likely to experience higher levels of PPD and BOP compared to non-stressed patients. In total, 75% of the included studies showed a positive relationship between stress and response to NSPT, 12.5% observed a negative relationship, and the remaining 12.5% found some degree of relationship in the results of clinical periodontal parameters. The level of evidence is categorized according to the quality of the synthesis presented. Conclusions: There is a positive correlation between psychological stress and periodontal treatment response, indicating that stress may negatively influence the clinical outcomes of NSPT. Stress may reduce the inflammatory response, which is crucial for eliminating periodontal micropathogens after periodontal treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE Early interdisciplinary supportive care (ESC), including psychological interventions, can improve the survival of patients with metastatic esophagogastric cancer (EGC). The purpose of the study was to evaluate the association between psychological factors and survival in patients with metastatic EGC. METHODS A secondary analysis was conducted for an open-label randomized controlled trial of ESC, in which 246 patients with EGC completed a distress measure (the distress thermometer) and a depression symptom measure (the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 [PHQ-9]) at baseline before cancer treatments. Cox regression was applied to explore the influence of psychological distress and depressive symptoms on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). RESULTS Patients with moderate depressive symptoms (PHQ-9 ≥8) had shorter PFS (3.5 v 6.0 months, P < .001) and shorter OS (10.7 v 15.0 months, P = .001) than those without. Patients with significant psychological distress had worse PFS (4.8 v 6.3 months, P = .035) and worse OS (13.4 v 15.5 months, P = .039) than those without. After controlling for performance status, group, sex, primary tumor site, tumor histology, and age, only depressive symptoms remained associated with worse PFS (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 2.02 [95% CI, 1.41 to 2.91]; P < .001) and worse OS (adjusted HR, 1.70 [95% CI, 1.17 to 2.47]; P = .006). CONCLUSION This study shows that depressive symptoms at baseline were associated with poor survival in patients with newly diagnosed metastatic EGC. Therefore, screening and preventive intervention for depression should be integrated into routine cancer care for this population.

Abstract
The striking ethnic and racial disparities in breast cancer mortality are not explained fully by pathologic or clinical features. Structural racism contributes to adverse conditions that promote cancer inequities, but the pathways by which this occurs are not fully understood. Social determinants of health, such as economic status and access to care, account for a portion of this variability, yet interventions designed to mitigate these barriers have not consistently led to improved outcomes. Based on the current evidence from multiple disciplines, we describe a conceptual model in which structural racism and racial discrimination contribute to increased mortality risk in diverse groups of patients by promoting adverse social determinants of health that elevate exposure to environmental hazards and stress; these exposures in turn contribute to epigenetic and immune dysregulation, thereby altering breast cancer outcomes. Based on this model, opportunities and challenges arise for interventions to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in breast cancer mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer patients' health-related quality of life (HRQoL) has always been a hot discussion spot. Loneliness and psychological resilience are considered to be significant psychosocial factors impacting the HRQoL of the cancer population. However, there is a lack of studies on the interrelationship among loneliness, resilience, and HRQoL in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This study aims to explore the relationship between resilience and HRQoL among NPC patients and to recognize the potential mediating role of loneliness in this relationship. METHODS A cross-sectional study was performed in this study. A convenience sampling method was conducted to recruit participants. A total of 155 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma were required to complete the socio-demographic questionnaire, the Cancer Loneliness Scale (CLS), the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC-10), and the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Quality of Life Questionnaire C-30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) from April 2022 to August 2022 in a tertiary grade A hospital in Guangzhou, China. The multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify influencing factors, and structural equation modeling with the bootstrap method was performed to test the mediating role of loneliness. This study complied with the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) guidelines. RESULTS HRQoL was at a median level among NPC patients, with a mean score of 64.19 (24.38) on the Global health status/quality of life (GHS/QoL) scale. Monthly household income (B = 4.973, P < 0.001), cancer stage (B=-4.342, P = 0.004), psychological resilience (B = 0.914, P < 0.001), and loneliness (B =-1.083, P < 0.001) were independent factors related to HRQoL, explaining 36.7% of the variance of HRQoL. Psychological resilience exerted its direct negative impact on loneliness (β = -0.199, BC95%CI = -0.318/-0.089), and it also had a both direct and indirect positive impact on HRQoL (β = 0.653, BC95%CI = 0.423/0.912; β = 0.142, BC95%CI = 0.046/0.296). Loneliness exerted a partially mediating impact on the relationship between psychological resilience and HRQoL. CONCLUSIONS NPC patients with higher monthly household, early stages of cancer, higher resilience, and lower loneliness show a better HRQoL. Resilience has an indirect positive impact on HRQoL by influencing loneliness in NPC patients. It is suggested that healthcare staff should strive to enhancing resilience and reducing loneliness as new strategies to promote NPC patients' HRQoL further.

Abstract
In this study, a multifunctional Cu-doped CaO2 nanoreactor loaded with GOx and camouflaged with a folic acid-modified cell membranewas developed for breast cancer treatment. The as-developed composite nanoreactor showed a synergistic effect on calcium overload to damage mitochondria, thus killing tumor cells to achieve ion interference therapy (IIT). The loaded GOx could deplete glucose to "starve" tumor cells. The H2O2 released by CaO2 decomposition and enzyme catalytic reactions from GOx could not only be highly toxic in the tumor microenvironment but also enhance the efficiency of chemodynamic therapy (CDT) with Cu2+. The red blood cell membranes modified by folic acid achieved a combination of active targeting and passive targeting, thereby enhancing the targeting ability of the as-prepared multifunctional composite nanoreactor and prolonging its retention time at the tumor sites for more than 48 h.

Abstract
Diabesity is a condition where an individual has both diabetes and obesity, which can lead to severe complications including cardiovascular disease, a leading cause of mortality. Recently, cancer has become a leading cause of excess hospitalizations, and both diabetes and obesity are associated with a higher risk of developing several types of cancer. In this review, we propose that chronic stress significantly increases this association. Managing diabetes and obesity is challenging as they both cause significant distress. The relationship between stress and cancer is interconnected, with anxiety and depression being common in cancer patients. Cancer diagnosis and treatment can cause lasting changes in the body's neuroendocrine system, with stress causing an excessive release of catecholamines and prostaglandins in patients undergoing cancer surgery, which promotes the spread of cancer to other parts of the body. Furthermore, stress could significantly increase the risk of cancer in patients with diabetes, obesity, or both.

Abstract
Personalized psycho-oncology represents a major challenge for the holistic care of cancer patients. It focuses on individualized psychotherapeutic and psychiatric interventions to address specific psychological needs. This narrative review summarizes the current literature on personalized psycho-oncology and highlights the prevalence and impact of psychiatric/psychological disorders in cancer patients. Personalized approaches, including tailored interventions and interdisciplinary collaboration, have been shown to be effective in improving mental health and overall quality of life. The integration of inflammatory biomarkers into treatment plans is a promising but challenging way to alleviate mental health problems. In addition, there is a need for specific diagnostic tools and treatment guidelines that take into account the specific psychological impact of different types of cancer. Future research should aim to refine these personalized strategies, improve diagnostic accuracy, and evaluate the cost-effectiveness of these interventions to improve both the psychological well-being and treatment outcomes of cancer patients.

Abstract
This study aimed to predict stress in patients using artificial intelligence (AI) from biological signals and verify the effect of stress on respiratory irregularity. We measured 123 cases in 41 patients and calculated stress scores with seven stress-related features derived from heart-rate variability. The distribution and trends of stress scores across the treatment period were analyzed. Before-treatment information was used to predict the stress features during treatment. AI models included both non-pretrained (decision tree, random forest, support vector machine, long short-term memory (LSTM), and transformer) and pretrained (ChatGPT) models. Performance was evaluated using 10-fold cross-validation, exact match ratio, accuracy, recall, precision, and F1 score. Respiratory irregularities were calculated in phase and amplitude and analyzed for correlation with stress score. Over 90% of the patients experienced stress during radiation therapy. LSTM and prompt engineering GPT4.0 had the highest accuracy (feature classification, LSTM: 0.703, GPT4.0: 0.659; stress classification, LSTM: 0.846, GPT4.0: 0.769). A 10% increase in stress score was associated with a 0.286 higher phase irregularity (p < 0.025). Our research pioneers the use of AI and biological signals for stress prediction in patients undergoing radiation therapy, potentially identifying those needing psychological support and suggesting methods to improve radiotherapy effectiveness through stress management.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To review mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) tested in randomized controlled trials (RCT) across the cancer continuum. DATA SOURCE Articles identified in PubMed, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Embase. STUDY INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION CRITERIA Two independent reviewers screened articles for: (1) topic relevance; (2) RCT study design; (3) mindfulness activity; (4) text availability; (5) country (United States); and (6) mindfulness as the primary intervention component. DATA EXTRACTION Twenty-eight RCTs met the inclusion criteria. Data was extracted on the following variables: publication year, population, study arms, cancer site, stage of cancer continuum, participant demographic characteristics, mindfulness definition, mindfulness measures, mindfulness delivery, and behavioral theory. DATA SYNTHESIS We used descriptive statistics and preliminary content analysis to characterize the data and identify emerging themes. RESULTS A definition of mindfulness was reported in 46% of studies and 43% measured mindfulness. Almost all MBIs were tested in survivorship (50%) or treatment (46%) stages of the cancer continuum. Breast cancer was the focus of 73% of cancer-site specific studies, and most participants were non-Hispanic white females. CONCLUSION The scoping review identified 5 themes: (1) inconsistency in defining mindfulness; (2) differences in measuring mindfulness; (3) underrepresentation of racial/ethnic minorities; (4) underrepresentation of males and cancer sites other than breast; and (5) the lack of behavioral theory in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the MBI.

Abstract
Recent therapeutic advances have significantly uplifted the quality of life in breast cancer patients, yet several impediments block the road to disease-free survival. This involves unresponsiveness towards administered therapy, epithelial to mesenchymal transition, and metastatic progression with the eventual appearance of recurrent disease. Attainment of such characteristics is a huge adaptive challenge to which tumour cells respond by acquiring diverse phenotypically plastic states. Several signalling networks and mediators are involved in such a process. Glucocorticoid receptor being a mediator of stress response imparts prognostic significance in the context of breast carcinoma. Involvement of the glucocorticoid receptor in the signalling cascade of breast cancer phenotypic plasticity needs further elucidation. This review attempted to shed light on the inter-regulatory interactions of the glucocorticoid receptor with the mediators of the plasticity program in breast cancer; which may provide a hint for strategizing therapeutics against the glucocorticoid/glucocorticoid receptor axis so as to modulate phenotypic plasticity in breast carcinoma.

Abstract
Various developments have been observed in the treatment of cancer patients, such as higher survival rates and better treatment outcomes. However, expecting similar outcomes in older patients remains a challenge. The main reason for this conclusion is the exclusion of older people from clinical trials for cancer drugs, as well as other factors, such as comorbidity, side effects, age-related frailties and their willingness to undergo multiple treatments. However, the discovery of new techniques and drug combinations has led to a significant improvement in the survival of the elderly population after the onset of the disease. On the other hand, cancer treatments have not become more complex for the younger population when compared to the older population, as the younger population tends to respond well to treatment trials and their physiological conditions are stable in response to treatments. In summary, this review correlates recent cancer treatment strategies and the corresponding responses and survival outcomes of older and younger patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW Breast cancer (BC) is the leading cause of death among women aged 44-55 years globally. Pro-inflammatory food can cause tissue-level inflammation, thereby creating a carcinogenic microenvironment and promoting breast cancer. The aim of this review is to provide an overview of the association between inflammation and nutrition and clinical outcomes in breast cancer survivors. RECENT FINDINGS Pro-inflammatory diets are associated with a higher mortality risk after diagnosis and worse prognosis after treatment. On the other hand, anti-inflammatory diets may improve tissue-level inflammation and improve the overall prognosis and quality of life of survivors. There is strong evidence that the Mediterranean diet in particular is associated with reduced recurrence risk of breast cancer and improved quality of life of survivors. This narrative review provides evidence that there is a strong association between inflammation, dietary habits, and adverse clinical outcomes in breast cancer survivors. It further discusses the current evidence for the role of dietary management in improving clinical outcomes in breast cancer survivors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cancer recurrence after treatment is a concern for patients and oncologists alike. The movement towards treatment optimization, with trials testing less than the current standard of care (SoC), complicates this experience. Our objective was to assess oncologists' psychological response to patient recurrence on optimization-focused trials and identify factors that influence those experiences. METHODS Clinical oncologists participated in a semi-structured interview regarding patient enrollment in treatment optimization trials. We identified factors that influence the degree of psychological response that the oncologist may feel after patient recurrence. Residual agreement analysis was used to identify whether differences in reported psychological response was associated with alternative emphases on identified factors. RESULTS Thirty-six oncologists identified 20 factors spanning five major themes that affected their psychological response to patient recurrence. All oncologists expressed willingness to enroll patients in treatment optimization clinical trials; however, half indicated that they were more likely to experience a negative psychological response after a treatment optimization trial than after a traditional intensification trial, and a quarter reported that patient recurrence on an optimization trial would impact their recommendations for future trial enrollment. Oncologists who reported more negative psychological responses to patient recurrence after participation in an optimization trial were more likely to emphasize introspective factors, while those who reported no difference in response emphasized patient- and process-focused factors. CONCLUSIONS Although most oncologists recognize the importance of treatment optimization trials, a significant proportion indicated a greater potential for psychological distress following patient recurrence in such trials and offered insight into how trial design and the process of patient enrollment can be improved to minimize those negative psychological responses.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the association between distress at initial diagnosis and disease-free survival in patients with resectable colon cancer. SUMMARY BACKGROUND DATA Considerable research has examined the psychological impact of having a confirmed diagnosis of cancer, but relatively limited research has examined the impact of distress during the diagnostic phase on oncological outcomes. METHODS This is a retrospective cohort study. We included newly diagnosed colon cancer patients who had resectable surgery and underwent distress screening between July 2014 and July 2021 (N=1,362). The Korean versions of the Distress Thermometer were used to assess distress and related problems. Patients were categorized into 3 groups based on distress score: low (<4), moderate (4-7), and severe (≥8). The primary outcome was disease-free survival. RESULTS The mean distress was 5.1 (SD=2.4) and 61%, and 15% of patients had moderate and severe distress at diagnosis, respectively. The severe distress group was more likely to report fear, sadness, and concerns regarding insurance/finance, work, and childcare than the low distress group. Compared with the low distress group, the severe distress group had worse disease-free survival (Hazard Ratio=1.84, 95% CI=1.03, 3.29). The association was more evident in patients with stage IV disease (Hazard Ratio=2.53, 95% CI=1.02, 6.25). CONCLUSIONS A substantial number of patients with colon cancer experience distress at diagnosis, and severe distress has a negative impact on oncologic outcomes. Active monitoring and appropriate management of distress at diagnosis should be adopted at clinical settings.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Early gastric cancer (EGC) is typically treated with endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). However, recurrence may occur after ESD, requiring surveillance. AIM To examine the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of EGC survivors following ESD regarding gastric cancer recurrence. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted between June 1, 2022 and October 1, 2022 in Zhejiang, China. A total of 400 EGC survivors who underwent ESD at the Affiliated Jinhua Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine participated in this study. A self-administered questionnaire was developed to assess KAP monitoring gastric cancer after ESD. RESULTS The average scores for KAP were 3.34, 23.76, and 5.75 out of 5, 30, and 11, respectively. Pearson correlation analysis revealed positive and significant correlations between knowledge and attitude, knowledge and practice, and attitude and practice (r = 0.405, 0.511, and 0.458, respectively; all P < 0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that knowledge, attitude, 13-24 mo since the last ESD (vs ≤ 12 mo since the last ESD), and ≥ 25 mo since the last ESD (vs ≤ 12 mo since the last ESD) were independent predictors of proactive practice (odds ratio = 1.916, 1.253, 3.296, and 5.768, respectively, all P < 0.0001). CONCLUSION EGC survivors showed inadequate knowledge, positive attitude, and poor practices in monitoring recurrences after ESD. Adequate knowledge, positive attitude, and a longer time since the last ESD were associated with practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women worldwide. Though improved treatments and prolonged overall survival, breast cancer survivors (BCSs) persistently suffer from various unmet supportive care needs (USCNs) throughout the disease. This scoping review aims to synthesize current literature regarding USCNs among BCSs. METHODS This study followed a scoping review framework. Articles were retrieved from Cochrane Library, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Medline from inception through June 2023, as well as reference lists of relevant literature. Peer-reviewed journal articles were included if USCNs among BCSs were reported. Inclusion/exclusion criteria were adopted to screen articles' titles and abstracts as well as to entirely assess any potentially pertinent records by two independent researchers. Methodological quality was independently appraised following Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools. Content analytic approach and meta-analysis were performed for qualitative and quantitative studies respectively. Results were reported according to the PRISMA extension for scoping reviews. RESULTS A total of 10,574 records were retrieved and 77 studies were included finally. The overall risk of bias was low to moderate. The self-made questionnaire was the most used instrument, followed by The Short-form Supportive Care Needs Survey questionnaire (SCNS-SF34). A total of 16 domains of USCNs were finally identified. Social support (74%), daily activity (54%), sexual/intimacy (52%), fear of cancer recurrence/ spreading (50%), and information support (45%) were the top unmet supportive care needs. Information needs and psychological/emotional needs appeared most frequently. The USCNs was found to be significantly associated with demographic factors, disease factors, and psychological factors. CONCLUSION BCSs are experiencing a large number of USCNs in fearing of cancer recurrence, daily activity, sexual/intimacy, psychology and information, with proportions ranging from 45% to 74%. Substantial heterogeneity in study populations and assessment tools was observed. There is a need for further research to identify a standard evaluation tool targeted to USCNs on BCSs. Effective interventions based on guidelines should be formulated and conducted to decrease USCNs among BCSs in the future.

Abstract
Previous studies have indicated that the adrenergic receptor signaling pathway plays a fundamental role in chronic stress-induced cancer metastasis. In this study, we investigated whether an ethanol extract of Perilla frutescens leaves (EPF) traditionally used to treat stress-related symptoms by moving Qi could regulate the adrenergic agonist-induced metastatic ability of cancer cells. Our results show that adrenergic agonists including norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine (E), and isoproterenol (ISO) increased migration and invasion of MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells and Hep3B human hepatocellular carcinoma cells. However, such increases were completely abrogated by EPF treatment. E/NE induced downregulation of E-cadherin and upregulation of N-cadherin, Snail, and Slug. Such effects were clearly reversed by pretreatment with EPF, suggesting that the antimetastatic activity of EPF could be related to epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) regulation. EPF suppressed E/NE-stimulated Src phosphorylation. Inhibition of Src kinase activity with dasatinib completely suppressed the E/NE-induced EMT process. Transfecting MDA-MB-231 cells with constitutively activated Src (SrcY527F) diminished the antimigration effect of EPF. Taken together, our results demonstrate that EPF can suppress the adrenergic agonist-promoted metastatic ability of cancer cells by inhibiting Src-mediated EMT. This study provides basic evidence supporting the probable use of EPF to prevent metastasis in cancer patients, especially those under chronic stress.

Abstract
In modern clinical practice and research on behavioral changes in patients with oncological problems, there are several one-sided approaches to these problems. Strategies for early detection of behavioral changes are considered, but they must take into account the specifics of the localization and phase in the course and treatment of somatic oncological disease. Behavioral changes, in particular, may correlate with systemic proinflammatory changes. In the up-to-date literature, there are a lot of useful pointers on the relationship between carcinoma and inflammation and between depression and inflammation. This review is intended to provide an overview of these similar underlying inflammatory disturbances in both oncological disease and depression. The specificities of acute and chronic inflammation are considered as a basis for causal current and future therapies. Modern therapeutic oncology protocols may also cause transient behavioral changes, so assessment of the quality, quantity, and duration of behavioral symptoms is necessary to prescribe adequate therapy. Conversely, antidepressant properties could be used to ameliorate inflammation. We will attempt to provide some impetus and present some unconventional potential treatment targets related to inflammation. It is certain that only an integrative oncology approach is justifiable in modern patient treatment.

Abstract
PURPOSE To characterize the distress trajectory in patients with newly diagnosed, non-metastatic breast cancer from pre-neoadjuvant chemotherapy until 12 months after onset of treatment and to identify demographic and clinical predictors of distress in these patients. METHODS In a retrospective, longitudinal study, chart review data were abstracted for 252 eligible patients treated at a comprehensive cancer care center. The center screens for distress at least monthly with the distress thermometer; the highest distress score per month was included in the analyses. The growth trajectory was established using mixed modeling and predictors were added to the initial growth model in subsequent models. RESULTS Distress showed a cubic growth trajectory with highest distress prior to treatment onset followed by a steep decline in the first three months of treatment. A slight increase in distress was apparent over months 6-10. Being Hispanic was associated with a stronger increase in distress in the second half of the year (p = 0.012). NACT was associated with lower distress and surgery with higher distress (both: p < 0.001). CONCLUSION Distress is at its peak prior to treatment onset and rapidly decreases once treatment has started. Oncologist should be aware that both completion of NACT and undergoing surgery are associated with increases in distress and Hispanic patients may be more at risk for an increase in distress at these times; this suggests that careful monitoring of distress during the treatment trajectory and in Hispanic patients in particular in order to provide timely support.

Abstract
Immune checkpoint inhibitors, including anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4 therapies, are used to (re)activate the immune system to treat cancer. Despite promising results, a large group of patients does not respond to checkpoint inhibition. In the vulnerability-stress model of behavioral medicine, behavioral factors, such as stress, exercise and classical pharmacological conditioning, predict cancer incidence, recurrence and the efficacy of conventional cancer treatments. Given the important role of the immune system in these processes, certain behavior may be promising to complement immune checkpoint inhibition therapy. Here, we discuss the preliminary evidence and suitability of three behavioral mechanisms, i.e. stress modulation, exercise and classical pharmacological conditioning for the benefit of immunotherapy. It is crucial to study the potential beneficial effects of behavioral strategies that support immunotherapeutic anti-tumor effects with rigorous experimental evidence, to exploit behavioral mechanisms in improving checkpoint inhibition efficacy.

Abstract
Deep learning algorithms have yet to be used for predicting clinical prognosis after cancer surgery. Therefore, this study compared performance indices and permutation importance of potential confounders in three models for predicting 5-year recurrence after hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) resection: a deep-learning deep neural network (DNN) model, a recurrent neural network (RNN) model, and a Cox proportional hazard (CPH) regression model. Data for 725 patients who had received HCC resection at three medical centers in southern Taiwan between April, 2011, and December, 2015, were randomly divided into three datasets: a training dataset containing data for 507 subjects was used for model development, a testing dataset containing data for 109 subjects was used for internal validation, and a validating dataset containing data for 109 subjects was used for external validation. Feature importance analysis was also performed to identify potential predictors of recurrence after HCC resection. Univariate Cox proportional hazards regression analyses were performed to identify potential significant predictors of 5-year recurrence after HCC resection, which were included in the forecasting models (P < 0.05). All performance indices for the DNN model were significantly higher than those for the RNN model and the conventional CPH model (P < 0.001). The most important potential predictor of 5-year recurrence after HCC resection was surgeon volume followed by, in order of importance, hospital volume, preoperative Beck Depression Scale score, preoperative Beck Anxiety Scale score, co-residence with family, tumor stage, and tumor size. The feature importance analysis performed to investigate interpretability in this study elucidated the potential use of deep learning models for predicting recurrence after HCC resection and for identifying predictors of recurrence. Further experiments using the proposed DNN model would clarify its potential uses for developing, promoting, and improving health policies for treating HCC patients after surgery.

Pioneer studies showed that chronic restraint-induced PS (CRIPS) could attenuate Trp53 functions and increase gamma-ray-induced carcinogenesis in Trp53-heterozygous mice while CRIPS did not significantly modify the effects on X-ray-induced hematopoietic toxicity in Trp53 wild-type mice. As high-linear energy transfer (LET) radiation is the most important component of space radiation in causing biological effects, we further investigated the effects of CRIPS on high-LET iron-particle radiation (Fe)-induced hematopoietic toxicity in Trp53-heterozygous mice. The results showed that CRIPS alone could hardly induce significant alteration in hematological parameters (peripheral hemogram and micronucleated erythrocytes in bone marrow) while concurrent exposure caused elevated genotoxicity measured as micronucleus incidence in erythrocytes. Particularly, exposure to either CRISP or Fe-particle radiation at a low dose (0.1 Gy) did not induce a marked increase in the micronucleus incidence; however, concurrent exposure caused a significantly higher increase in the micronucleus incidence. These findings indicated that CRIPS could enhance the deleterious effects of high-LET radiation, particularly at a low dose, on the hematopoietic toxicity in Trp53-heterozygous mice.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BRCA) remains as one the most prevalent cancers diagnosed in industrialised countries. Although the overall survival rate is high, the dissemination of BRCA cells to distant organs correlates with a significantly poor prognosis. This is due to the fact that there are no efficient therapeutic strategies designed to overcome the progression of the metastasis. Over the past decade, critical associations between stress and the prevalence of BRCA metastases were uncovered. Chronic stress and the concomitant sympathetic hyperactivation have been shown to accelerate the progression of the disease and the metastases incidence, specifically to the bone. In this review, we provide a summary of the sympathetic profile on BRCA. Additionally, the current knowledge regarding the sympathetic hyperactivity, and the underlying adrenergic signalling pathways, involved on the development of BRCA metastasis to distant organs (i.e., bone, lung, liver and brain) will be revealed. Since bone is a preferential target site for BRCA metastases, greater emphasis will be given to the contribution of α2- and β-adrenergic signalling in BRCA bone tropism and the occurrence of osteolytic lesions.
