Abstract
In this study, an adaptive nonsingular finite time control technique based on a barrier function terminal sliding mode controller is proposed for the robust stability of nth-order nonlinear dynamic systems with external disturbances. The barrier function adaptive terminal sliding mode control makes the convergence of tracking errors to a region near zero in the finite time. Moreover, the suggested method does not need the information of upper bounds of perturbations which are commonly applied to the sliding mode control procedure. The Lyapunov stability analysis proves that the errors converge to the determined region. Last of all, simulations and experimental results on a complex new chaotic system with a high Kaplan–Yorke dimension are provided to confirm the efficacy of the planned method. The results demonstrate that the suggested controller has a stronger tracking than the adaptive controller and the results are satisfactory with the application of the controller based on chaotic synchronization on the chaotic system.

Abstract
Digital images can be large in size and contain sensitive information that needs protection. Compression using compressed sensing performs well, but the measurement matrix directly affects the signal compression and reconstruction performance. The good cryptographic characteristics of chaotic systems mean that using one to construct the measurement matrix has obvious advantages. However, existing low-dimensional chaotic systems have low complexity and generate sequences with poor randomness. Hence, a new six-dimensional non-degenerate discrete hyperchaotic system with six positive Lyapunov exponents is proposed in this paper. Using this chaotic system to design the measurement matrix can improve the performance of image compression and reconstruction. Because image encryption using compressed sensing cannot resist known- and chosen-plaintext attacks, the chaotic system proposed in this paper is introduced into the compressed sensing encryption framework. A scrambling algorithm and two-way diffusion algorithm for the plaintext are used to encrypt the measured value matrix. The security of the encryption system is further improved by generating the SHA-256 value of the original image to calculate the initial conditions of the chaotic map. A simulation and performance analysis shows that the proposed image compression-encryption scheme has high compression and reconstruction performance and the ability to resist known- and chosen-plaintext attacks.

Abstract
Chaotic systems have attracted considerable attention and been applied in various applications. Investigating simple systems and counterexamples with chaotic behaviors is still an important topic. The purpose of this work was to study a simple symmetrical system including only five nonlinear terms. We discovered the system’s rich behavior such as chaos through phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, and entropy. Interestingly, multi-stability was observed when changing system’s initial conditions. Chaos of such a system was predicted by applying a machine learning approach based on a neural network.

Abstract
In this paper, a new three-dimensional chaotic system is proposed for image encryption. The core of the encryption algorithm is the combination of chaotic system and compressed sensing, which can complete image encryption and compression at the same time. The Lyapunov exponent, bifurcation diagram and complexity of the new three-dimensional chaotic system are analyzed. The performance analysis shows that the chaotic system has two positive Lyapunov exponents and high complexity. In the encryption scheme, a new chaotic system is used as the measurement matrix for compressed sensing, and Arnold is used to scrambling the image further. The proposed method has better reconfiguration ability in the compressible range of the algorithm compared with other methods. The experimental results show that the proposed encryption scheme has good encryption effect and image compression capability.

Abstract
In this paper, a new voltage-controlled memristor is presented. The mathematical expression of this memristor has an absolute value term, so it is called an absolute voltage-controlled memristor. The proposed memristor is locally active, which is proved by its DC V–I (Voltage–Current) plot. A simple three-order Wien-bridge chaotic circuit without inductor is constructed on the basis of the presented memristor. The dynamical behaviors of the simple chaotic system are analyzed in this paper. The main properties of this system are coexisting attractors and multistability. Furthermore, an analog circuit of this chaotic system is realized by the Multisim software. The multistability of the proposed system can enlarge the key space in encryption, which makes the encryption effect better. Therefore, the proposed chaotic system can be used as a pseudo-random sequence generator to provide key sequences for digital encryption systems. Thus, the chaotic system is discretized and implemented by Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technology. The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) test and Approximate Entropy analysis of the proposed chaotic system are conducted in this paper.

It is well-known that mathematical models are the basis for system analysis and controller design. This paper considers the parameter identification problems of stochastic systems by the controlled autoregressive model. A gradient-based iterative algorithm is derived from observation data by using the gradient search. By using the multi-innovation identification theory, we propose a multi-innovation gradient-based iterative algorithm to improve the performance of the algorithm. Abstract
This paper is concerned with the joint state and parameter estimation methods for a bilinear system in the state space form, which is disturbed by additive noise. In order to overcome the difficulty that the model contains the product term of the system input and states, we make use of the hierarchical identification principle to present new methods for estimating the system parameters and states interactively. The unknown states are first estimated via a bilinear state estimator on the basis of the Kalman filtering algorithm. Then, a state estimator-based recursive generalized least squares (RGLS) algorithm is formulated according to the least squares principle. To improve the parameter estimation accuracy, we introduce the data filtering technique to derive a data filtering-based two-stage RGLS algorithm. The simulation example indicates the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

Abstract
Compared with fractional-order chaotic systems with a large number of dimensions, three-dimensional or integer-order chaotic systems exhibit low complexity. In this paper, two novel four-dimensional, continuous, fractional-order, autonomous, and dissipative chaotic system models with higher complexity are revised. Numerical simulation of the two systems was used to verify that the two new fractional-order chaotic systems exhibit very rich dynamic behavior. Moreover, the synchronization method for fractional-order chaotic systems is also an issue that demands attention. In order to apply the Lyapunov stability theory, it is often necessary to design complicated functions to achieve the synchronization of fractional-order systems. Based on the fractional Mittag–Leffler stability theory, an adaptive, large-scale, and asymptotic synchronization control method is studied in this paper. The proposed scheme realizes the synchronization of two different fractional-order chaotic systems under the conditions of determined parameters and uncertain parameters. The synchronization theory and its proof are given in this paper. Finally, the model simulation results prove that the designed adaptive controller has good reliability, which contributes to the theoretical research into, and practical engineering applications of, chaos.

Abstract
This paper presents a new no-equilibrium 4-D hyperchaotic multistable system with coexisting hidden attractors. One prominent feature is that by varying the system parameter or initial value, the system can generate several nonlinear complex attractors: periodic, quasiperiodic, multiple topology chaotic, and hyperchaotic. The dynamics and complexity of the proposed system were investigated through Lyapunov exponents (LEs), a bifurcation diagram, a Poincaré map, and spectral entropy (SE). The simulation and calculation results show that the proposed multistable system has very rich and complex hidden dynamic characteristics. Additionally, the circuit of the chaotic system is designed to verify the physical realizability of the system. This study provides new insights into uncovering the dynamic characteristics of the coexisting hidden attractors system and provides a new choice for nonlinear control or chaotic secure communication technology.

Abstract
Chaotic systems without equilibrium are of interest because they are the systems with hidden attractors. A nonequilibrium system with chaos is introduced in this work. Chaotic behavior of the system is verified by phase portraits, Lyapunov exponents, and entropy. We have implemented a real electronic circuit of the system and reported experimental results. By using this new chaotic system, we have constructed S-boxes which are applied to propose a novel image encryption algorithm. In the designed encryption algorithm, three S-boxes with strong cryptographic properties are used for the sub-byte operation. Particularly, the S-box for the sub-byte process is selected randomly. In addition, performance analyses of S-boxes and security analyses of the encryption processes have been presented.

Abstract
Today, four-dimensional chaotic systems are attracting considerable attention because of their special characteristics. This paper presents a non-equilibrium four-dimensional chaotic system with hidden attractors and investigates its dynamical behavior using a bifurcation diagram, as well as three well-known entropy measures, such as approximate entropy, sample entropy, and Fuzzy entropy. In order to stabilize the proposed chaotic system, an adaptive radial-basis function neural network (RBF-NN)–based control method is proposed to represent the model of the uncertain nonlinear dynamics of the system. The Lyapunov direct method-based stability analysis of the proposed approach guarantees that all of the closed-loop signals are semi-globally uniformly ultimately bounded. Also, adaptive learning laws are proposed to tune the weight coefficients of the RBF-NN. The proposed adaptive control approach requires neither the prior information about the uncertain dynamics nor the parameters value of the considered system. Results of simulation validate the performance of the proposed control method.

Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of a fractional order chaotic map corresponding to a recently developed standard map that exhibits a chaotic behavior with no fixed point. This is the first study to explore a fractional chaotic map without a fixed point. In our investigation, we use phase plots and bifurcation diagrams to examine the dynamics of the fractional map and assess the effect of varying the fractional order. We also use the approximate entropy measure to quantify the level of chaos in the fractional map. In addition, we propose a one-dimensional stabilization controller and establish its asymptotic convergence by means of the linearization method.

Abstract
This paper brings analysis of the multiple-valued memory system (MVMS) composed by a pair of the resonant tunneling diodes (RTD). Ampere-voltage characteristic (AVC) of both diodes is approximated in operational voltage range as common in practice: by polynomial scalar function. Mathematical model of MVMS represents autonomous deterministic dynamical system with three degrees of freedom and smooth vector field. Based on the very recent results achieved for piecewise-linear MVMS numerical values of the parameters are calculated such that funnel and double spiral chaotic attractor is observed. Existence of such types of strange attractors is proved both numerically by using concept of the largest Lyapunov exponents (LLE) and experimentally by computer-aided simulation of designed lumped circuit using only commercially available active elements.

Abstract
In this paper, we propose a fractional map based on the integer-order unified map. The chaotic behavior of the proposed map is analyzed by means of bifurcations plots, and experimental bounds are placed on the parameters and fractional order. Different control laws are proposed to force the states to zero asymptotically and to achieve the complete synchronization of a pair of fractional unified maps with identical or nonidentical parameters. Numerical results are used throughout the paper to illustrate the findings.

Abstract
The investigations of hidden attractors are mainly in continuous-time dynamic systems, and there are a few investigations of hidden attractors in discrete-time dynamic systems. The classical chaotic attractors of the Logistic map, Tent map, Henon map, Arnold’s cat map, and other widely-known chaotic attractors are those excited from unstable fixed points. In this paper, the hidden dynamics of a new two-dimensional map inspired by Arnold’s cat map is investigated, and the existence of fixed points and their stabilities are studied in detail.

Abstract
The search for generation approaches to robust chaos has received considerable attention due to potential applications in cryptography or secure communications. This paper is of interest regarding a 1-D sigmoidal chaotic map, which has never been distinctly investigated. This paper introduces a generic form of the sigmoidal chaotic map with three terms, i.e., xn+1 = ∓AfNL(Bxn) ± Cxn ± D, where A, B, C, and D are real constants. The unification of modified sigmoid and hyperbolic tangent (tanh) functions reveals the existence of a “unified sigmoidal chaotic map” generically fulfilling the three terms, with robust chaos partially appearing in some parameter ranges. A simplified generic form, i.e., xn+1 = ∓fNL(Bxn) ± Cxn, through various S-shaped functions, has recently led to the possibility of linearization using (i) hardtanh and (ii) signum functions. This study finds a linearized sigmoidal chaotic map that potentially offers robust chaos over an entire range of parameters. Chaos dynamics are described in terms of chaotic waveforms, histogram, cobweb plots, fixed point, Jacobian, and a bifurcation structure diagram based on Lyapunov exponents. As a practical example, a true random bit generator using the linearized sigmoidal chaotic map is demonstrated. The resulting output is evaluated using the NIST SP800-22 test suite and TestU01.
