A Denoising Method of Ship Radiated Noise Signal Based on Modified CEEMDAN, Dispersion Entropy, and Interval Thresholding

A novel prediction model based on decomposition-integration and error correction for COVID-19 daily confirmed and death cases

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has infected billion people around the world and affected the economy, but most countries are considering reopening, so the COVID-19 daily confirmed and death cases have increased greatly. It is very necessary to predict the COVID-19 daily confirmed and death cases in order to help every country formulate prevention policies. To enhance the prediction performance, this paper proposes a prediction model based on improved variational mode decomposition by sparrow search algorithm (SVMD), improved kernel extreme learning machine by Aquila optimizer algorithm (AO-KELM) and error correction idea, named SVMD-AO-KELM-error for short-term prediction of COVID-19 cases. Firstly, to solve mode number and penalty factor selection of variational mode decomposition (VMD), an improved VMD based on sparrow search algorithm (SSA), named SVMD, is proposed. SVMD decomposes the COVID-19 case data into some intrinsic mode function (IMF) components and residual is considered. Secondly, to properly selected regularization coefficients and kernel parameters of kernel extreme learning machine (KELM) and improve the prediction performance of KELM, an improved KELM by Aquila optimizer (AO) algorithm, named AO-KELM, is proposed. Each component is predicted by AO-KELM. Then, the prediction error of IMF and residual are predicted by AO-KELM to correct prediction results, which is error correction idea. Finally, prediction results of each component and error prediction results are reconstructed to get final prediction results. Through the simulation experiment of the COVID-19 daily confirmed and death cases in Brazil, Mexico, and Russia and comparison with twelve comparative models, simulation experiment gives that SVMD-AO-KELM-error has best prediction accuracy. It also proves that the proposed model can be used to predict the pandemic COVID-19 cases and offers a novel approach for COVID-19 cases prediction.

Coal–Rock Cutting Sound Denoising Based on Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise and an improved Fruit Fly Optimization Algorithm

The cutting sound signal of a coal mining shearer is an important signal source for identifying the coal–rock cutting mode and load state. However, the coal–rock cutting sound signal directly collected from the industrial field always contains a large amount of background noise, which is not conducive to the subsequent feature extraction and recognition. Therefore, efficient noise elimination for the original signal is required. An intelligent processing method based on an improved complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise (CEEMDAN) denoising algorithm is constructed for the cutting sound signal in this paper. CEEMDAN first decomposes the sound to generate a series of intrinsic modal functions (IMFs). Because the denoising threshold of each IMF is usually obtained by an experimental test or an empirical formula in the traditional CEEMDAN method, obtaining an optimal threshold set for each IMF is difficult. The processing effect is often restricted. To overcome this problem, the fruit fly optimization algorithm (FOA) was introduced for CEEMDAN threshold determination. Moreover, in the basic FOA, the scouting bee mutation operation and adaptive dynamic adjustment search strategy are applied to maintain the convergence speed and global search ability. The simulation result shows that the signal waveform processed by the improved CEEMDAN denoising algorithm is smoother than the other four typical eliminate noise signal algorithms. The output signal’s signal-to-noise ratio and mean square error are significantly improved. Finally, an industrial application of a shearer in a coal mining working face is performed to demonstrate the practical effect.

Double Feature Extraction Method of Ship-Radiated Noise Signal Based on Slope Entropy and Permutation Entropy

In order to accurately identify various types of ships and develop coastal defenses, a single feature extraction method based on slope entropy (SlEn) and a double feature extraction method based on SlEn combined with permutation entropy (SlEn&PE) are proposed. Firstly, SlEn is used for the feature extraction of ship-radiated noise signal (SNS) compared with permutation entropy (PE), dispersion entropy (DE), fluctuation dispersion entropy (FDE), and reverse dispersion entropy (RDE), so that the effectiveness of SlEn is verified, and SlEn has the highest recognition rate calculated by the k-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) algorithm. Secondly, SlEn is combined with PE, DE, FDE, and RDE, respectively, to extract the feature of SNS for a higher recognition rate, and SlEn&PE has the highest recognition rate after the calculation of the KNN algorithm. Lastly, the recognition rates of SlEn and SlEn&PE are compared, and the recognition rates of SlEn&PE are higher than SlEn by 4.22%. Therefore, the double feature extraction method proposed in this paper is more effective in the application of ship type recognition.

Optimized Variational Mode Decomposition and Permutation Entropy with Their Application in Feature Extraction of Ship-Radiated Noise

The complex and changeable marine environment surrounded by a variety of noise, including sounds of marine animals, industrial noise, traffic noise and the noise formed by molecular movement, not only interferes with the normal life of residents near the port, but also exerts a significant influence on feature extraction of ship-radiated noise (S-RN). In this paper, a novel feature extraction technique for S-RN signals based on optimized variational mode decomposition (OVMD), permutation entropy (PE), and normalized Spearman correlation coefficient (NSCC) is proposed. Firstly, with the mode number determined by reverse weighted permutation entropy (RWPE), OVMD decomposes the target signal into a set of intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The PE of all the IMFs and SCC between each IMF with the raw signal are then calculated, respectively. Subsequently, feature parameters are extracted through the sum of PE weighted by NSCC for the IMFs. Lastly, the obtained feature vectors are input into the support vector machine multi-class classifier (SVM) to discriminate various types of ships. Experimental results indicate that five kinds of S-RN samples can be accurately identified with a recognition rate of 94% by the proposed scheme, which is higher than other previously published methods. Hence, the proposed method is more advantageous in practical applications.

State-of-Health Prediction for Lithium-Ion Batteries Based on a Novel Hybrid Approach

Generally, the State-of-Health (SOH) monitoring and Remaining Useful Life (RUL) prediction and assessment of lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries need to use sensors to obtain the degradation test data of the same type of batteries and establish the degradation model for reference. However, when the battery type is unknown, a usable reference model cannot be obtained, so its prediction and evaluation may be relatively inconvenient. In this paper, the State of-Health prediction for lithium-ion batteries based on a novel hybrid scheme is proposed. Firstly, historical charge/discharge time series and capacity series are extracted to analyze and construct Health Indicators, then using Complete Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition with Adaptive Noise (CEEMDAN) to decompose the Health Indicator series into the trend and non-trend terms. Among them, the relatively smooth trend item data series uses the Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average model (ARIMA) for prediction; when dealing with the data series of non-trend items which are obviously non-smooth and seemingly random, the residuals predicted by ARIMA and the non-trend items obtained by CEEMDAN decomposition are combined into new non-trend items; then the least square support vector machine (LSSVM) is introduced to build a nonlinear prediction model and make predictions. Finally, combining the prediction results of the trend item data series and the non-trend item data series as a reference for the assessment of the state of health and remaining useful life. The 13 experimental results of 3 batteries verify the effectiveness of the scheme.

A New Feature Extraction Method Based on Improved Variational Mode Decomposition, Normalized Maximal Information Coefficient and Permutation Entropy for Ship-Radiated Noise

Due to the existence of marine environmental noise, coupled with the instability of underwater acoustic channel, ship-radiated noise (SRN) signals detected by sensors tend to suffer noise pollution as well as distortion caused by the transmission medium, making the denoising of the raw detected signals the new focus in the field of underwater acoustic target recognition. In view of this, this paper presents a novel hybrid feature extraction scheme integrating improved variational mode decomposition (IVMD), normalized maximal information coefficient (norMIC) and permutation entropy (PE) for SRN signals. Firstly, the IVMD method is employed to decompose the SRN signals into a number of finite intrinsic mode functions (IMFs). The noise IMFs are then filtered out by a denoising method before PE extraction. Next, the MIC between each retained IMF and the raw SRN signal and PE of retained IMFs are calculated, respectively. After this, the norMICs are used to weigh the PE values of the retained IMFs and the sum of the weighted PE results is regarded as the classification parameter. Finally, the feature vectors are fed into the particle swarm optimization-based support vector machine multi-class classifier (PSO-SVM) to identify different types of SRN samples. The experimental results have indicated that the classification accuracy of the proposed method is as high as 99.1667%, which is much higher than that of other currently existing methods. Hence, the method proposed in this paper is more suitable for feature extraction of SRN signals in practical application.

Optimal Denoising and Feature Extraction Methods Using Modified CEEMD Combined with Duffing System and Their Applications in Fault Line Selection of Non-Solid-Earthed Network

As the non-solid-earthed network fails, the zero-sequence current of each line is highly non-stationary, and the noise component is serious. This paper proposes a fault line selection method based on modified complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition (MCEEMD) and the Duffing system. Here, based on generalized composite multiscale permutation entropy (GCMPE) and support vector machine (SVM) for signal randomness detection, the complementary ensemble empirical mode decomposition is modified. The MCEEMD algorithm has good adaptability, and it can restrain the modal aliasing of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) at a certain level. The Duffing system is highly sensitive when the frequency of the external force signal is the same as that of the internal force signal. For automatically identifying chaotic characteristics, by using the texture features of the phase diagram, the method can quickly obtain the numerical criterion of the chaotic nature. Firstly, the zero-sequence current is decomposed into a series of intrinsic mode functions (IMF) to complete the first noise-reduction. Then an optimized smooth denoising model is established to select optimal IMF for signal reconstruction, which can complete the second noise-reduction. Finally, the reconstructed signal is put into the Duffing system. The trisection symmetry phase estimation is used to determine the relative phase of the detection signal. The faulty line in the non-solid-earthed network is selected with the diagram outputted by the Duffing system.
