Abstract
BACKGROUND Depression is one of the most common mental health disorders among older people. Depressive symptoms are often overlooked and untreated in primary care settings. This study aims to assess the prevalence of depressive symptoms and associated factors among older people in Vietnam. METHOD The study analyzed data from the Vietnam National Aging Survey (VNAS) conducted in 2022 with a nationally representative sample of 3,006 older people aged 60 and over in 12 provinces. The 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) was used to assess depressive symptoms. Bivariate and multiple logistic regression analyses were used to explore the association between depressive symptoms and other related factors such as sociodemographic and economic characteristics, social support, health status, Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) limitations, chronic diseases, cigarette smoking status, alcoholic drinking, and domestic violence. RESULTS The prevalence of depressive symptoms among older people was 20.2%. The associated factors that increase the odds of having depression among older people were female gender (OR = 2.21, 95% CI 1.34-3.62), living in rural areas (OR = 1.83, 95% CI 1.15-2.89), the poorest quintile (OR = 2.26, 95% CI 1.39-3.66), self-rated poor health (OR = 11.68, 95% CI 4.96-27.49), ADL limitations (OR = 2.12, 95% CI 1.51-2.99), IADL limitation (OR = 1.61 95% CI 1.16-2.25), and experiencing domestic violence in the last 12 months (OR = 6.66, 95% CI 4.00-11.05). CONCLUSION Depression symptoms were prevalent among older people in Vietnam. Depression screening for older people should be included in primary care settings for early identification and treatment of depression.

Abstract
Background There has been a recent and, for many within the chronic pain space, long-overdue increase in literature that focuses on equity, diversity, inclusion, and decolonization (EDI-D) to understand chronic pain among people who are historically and structurally marginalized. Aims In light of this growing attention in chronic pain research, we undertook a scoping review of studies that focus on people living with chronic pain and marginalization to map how these studies were carried out, how marginalization was conceptualized and operationalized by researchers, and identify suggestions for moving forward with marginalization and EDI-D in mind to better support people living with chronic pain. Methods We conducted this scoping review using critical analysis in a manner that aligns with dominant scoping review frameworks and recent developments made to scoping review methodology as well as reporting guidelines. Results Drawing on 67 studies, we begin with a descriptive review of the literature followed by a critical review that aims to identify fissures within the field through the following themes: (1) varying considerations of sociopolitical and socioeconomic contexts, (2) conceptual conflations between sex and gender, and (3) differing approaches to how people living with chronic pain and marginalization are described. Conclusion By identifying strengths and limitations in the research literature, we aim to highlight opportunities for researchers to contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of marginalization in chronic pain experiences.

Abstract
BACKGROUND India is passing through a phase of demographic and epidemiological transition where ageing and chronic morbidities are being more common. Though studies have examined the prevalence and risk factors of pain and other chronic morbidities, nationally representative research examining the association of pain and quality of life (QoL) is limited in India. This study examines the association between pain and QoL among middle-aged and older adults in India. METHODS This study uses the data from wave 1 of the Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) conducted in 2017-18. This study is restricted to 58,328 individuals from all states (except Sikkim), aged 45 years and above. The quality of life is measured in 6 domains (physical, psychological, social, environment, general health and life satisfaction) with 21 variables that range from 0 to 100. The principal component analysis was used to generate a composite score of QoL and the multiple linear regression was used to show the association between pain and quality of life. RESULTS It is estimated that approximately 37% of Indian middle-aged and older populations were often troubled with pain. Pain prevalence increase with age and is more common among older adults aged 75 + years (43.37%; 95% CI, 40.95-45.80), and female (41.38%; 95% CI, 39.36-43.39). The average QoL score among those with pain was 81.6 compared to 85.2 among those without pain. QoL was lower among elderly age 75 and above, females, rural residents and illiterates. Controlling for socio-demographic factors, pain reduces the QoL by 2.57 points (β= -2.57; 95% CI, -3.02 - -2.11). CONCLUSION Pain reduces the quality of life among middle-aged adults and older adults in India. This evidence could potentially help the policymakers to consider pain as a significant determinant of quality of life in India.

Abstract
Insomnia in college students has a significant impact on academic performance and mental health (e.g., depression). Although the mechanisms underlying insomnia and chronic pain are becoming clearer, only a few studies on college students have examined these factors by their location in the body. The purpose of the present study was to identify the location of chronic pain in the body most associated with insomnia in college students. A web-based survey was used to collect information pertaining to nine questions from 494 university students: sex, age, presence of chronic pain, intensity of chronic pain, location of chronic pain, and duration of chronic pain, as well as scores from the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. To examine the association between insomnia and the site of chronic pain, stepwise logistic regression analysis was conducted with AIS as the target variable. The results showed a significant positive correlation between chronic pain in the lumbar region and AIS scores. Future longitudinal studies including multiple factors are necessary to clarify the causal relationship between insomnia and chronic lower back pain.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The number of patients suffering from depression is continuously increasing in China. Demographic characteristics, physical health levels, and individual lifestyles/healthy behaviors are associated with the severity of depression. However, the major risk factor for depression remains unclear. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this investigation, 16,512 patients were screened using the CHARLS (China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study) database after being determined to be eligible based on the inclusion criteria. Depressive symptoms were evaluated through the CESD-10 (10-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale). Consequently, various models were developed based on potential predictive factors, employing stepwise LR (Logistic Regression)/RF (Random Forests) models to examine the influence and weighting of candidate factors that affect depression. RESULTS Gender, residential address location, changes in health status following last interview, physical disabilities, chronic pain, childhood health status, ADL (activity of daily living), and social activity were all revealed to be independent risk factors for depression (p < 0.05) in this study. Depression has a synergic effect (across chronic pain and age groups). In comparison to other factors, RF results showed that chronic pain had a stronger impact on depression. CONCLUSION This preliminary study reveals that chronic pain is a major risk factor for depression.
