Abstract
BACKGROUND Work-related quality of life (WRQoL) is a multidimensional concept related to life satisfaction. Evaluating WRQoL is essential in healthcare settings since employee satisfaction affects patient service quality. Only a few studies have focused on the quality of life of rehabilitation health workers. We aimed to validate the Italian version of the WRQoL scale on a population of rehabilitation health professionals; the secondary objective was to investigate the work-related quality of life of professionals concerning the work settings in which they operate. METHODS Participants were recruited from January 2022 to December 2023 according to specific inclusion criteria. Questionnaires were administered through an online survey requiring also personal employment data, and together with the SF-12 questionnaire, a test-retest was performed on 30 therapists. Reliability was assessed with Cronbach's alpha, test-retest stability through intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), and concurrent validity was calculated using Pearson's correlation. RESULTS We enrolled 284 individuals. Internal consistency analysis showed statistically significant results: Cronbach's alpha was > 0.70; construct validity analyses revealed statistically significant data for total scores and subscales, compared to SF-12 scores. CONCLUSION The WRQoL scale is a valid and reliable tool to assess the quality of working life of rehabilitation professionals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The global outbreak of COVID-19 has brought to light the profound impact that large-scale disease outbreaks can have on healthcare systems and the dedicated professionals who serve within them. It becomes increasingly important to explore strategies for retaining nurses and physicians within hospital settings during such challenging times. This paper aims to investigate the determinants of retention among nurses and physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD A systematic review of other potential determinants impacting retention rates during the pandemic was carried out. Secondly, a meta-analysis on the prevalence of intention to leave for nurses and physicians during the COVID-19 pandemic. FINDINGS A comprehensive search was performed within four electronic databases on March 17 2023. Fifty-five papers were included in the systematic review, whereas thirty-three papers fulfilled the eligibility criteria for the meta-analysis. The systematic review resulted in six themes of determinants impacting intention to leave: personal characteristics, job demands, employment services, working conditions, work relationships, and organisational culture. The main determinants impacting the intention to leave are the fear of COVID-19, age, experience, burnout symptoms and support. Meta-analysis showed a prevalence of intent to leave the current job of 38% for nurses (95% CI: 26%-51%) and 29% for physicians (95% CI: 21%-39%), whereas intention to leave the profession for nurses 28% (95% CI: 21%-34%) and 24% for physicians (95% CI: 23%-25%). CONCLUSION The findings of this paper showed the critical need for hospital managers to address the concerning increase in nurses' and physicians' intentions to leave during the COVID-19 pandemic. This intention to leave is affected by a complex conjunction of multiple determinants, including the fear of COVID-19 and the confidence in and availability of personal protective equipment. Moreover, individual factors like age, experience, burnout symptoms, and support are maintained in this review. Understanding the influence of determinants on retention during the COVID-19 pandemic offers an opportunity to formulate prospective strategies for retaining nurses and physicians within hospital settings.

Abstract
Objective This literature review evaluates the factors that affect nurses' quality of work life with the goal of enhancing their overall well-being, work experience, and creating a more supportive and satisfying work environment in the nursing field. Methods A systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Electronic databases including Scopus, PubMed, SAGE Journal, and Springer were searched for scientific articles on the quality of work life among nurses. After screening and removal of duplicates, we analyzed the full text of the articles to identify potentially relevant studies for eligibility, and then we extracted data from the articles that matched. Results The search of the literature resulted in 68 articles. Only 20 articles that met all inclusion criteria were included in the systematic review after full text review. Conclusion The literature indicates that nurses' work life quality is affected by three primary factors: personal (socio-demographic), occupational, and psychological. Identifying the factors is critical to finding the right solution for improving work life quality and overcoming factors that decrease nurses' work life quality.

Abstract
Background The global healthcare landscape was profoundly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic placing nurses squarely at the heart of this emergency. This review aimed to identify the factors correlated with nurses' job satisfaction, the impact of their job satisfaction on both themselves and their patients, and to explore strategies that might have counteracted their job dissatisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) methodology for systematic reviews of prevalence and incidence was used in this review. The electronic databases of CINAHL, MEDLINE, SCOPUS, PsycINFO and Academic Search Complete were searched between January 2020 to February 2023. Results The literature review identified 23 studies from 20 countries on nurses' job satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic. A pooled prevalence of 69.6% of nurses were satisfied with personal, environmental, and psychological factors influencing their job satisfaction. Job satisfaction improved psychological wellbeing and quality of life, while dissatisfaction was linked to turnover and mental health issues. Conclusion This systematic review elucidates key factors impacting nurses' job satisfaction during the COVID-19 pandemic, its effects on healthcare provision, and the potential countermeasures for job dissatisfaction. Core influences include working conditions, staff relationships, and career opportunities. High job satisfaction correlates with improved patient care, reduced burnout, and greater staff retention. Abstract
This study was conducted to identify the types of perceptions toward healthcare safety nets. This study applied a Q-methodology. From a Q-population of 91 samples that included a review of the related literature and interviews with five tertiary hospital nurses and five long-term care (LTC) hospital nurses, 33 Q-samples were selected. The data were analyzed with the PC-QUANL program. We recruited 32 nurses in a tertiary hospital and 33 nurses in an LTC hospital. The perceptions of the healthcare safety net of tertiary hospital nurses were categorized into four types: (1) systematic system request; (2) realistic work support; (3) government support; and (4) emotional support. The perceived subjectivity of the healthcare safety net of LTC hospital nurses were categorized into four types: (1) reward system and facility environmental support; (2) realistic work support; (3) social prevention infrastructure support; and (4) government support. This study provides basic data for these different hospital settings, as well as to inform future government policy and system improvements in an era characterized by infectious diseases. Specifically, this study presents the types of perceptions of healthcare safety nets of nurses in two hospital settings that deliver care for patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Quality of working life (QWL) is a highly important issue for nurses. Nurses with lower QWL tend to have lower job performance and intention to stay. The aim of this study was to apply a theoretical model to examine the structural relationships among overcommitment, effort-reward imbalance (ERI), safety climate, emotional labour and QWL for hospital nurses. METHODS A cross-sectional study design and a simple random sampling method were used to recruit 295 nurses in a teaching hospital and used a structured questionnaire was used to collect data. RESULTS Overall, the nurses' QWL was moderate. Our theoretical model showed a good model fit. Overcommintment had a significant direct positive effect on ERI (β = 0.35, p < 0.001) and indirect effects on safety climate (β = -0.149, p = 0.001), emotional labour (β = 0.105, p = 0.001) and QWL (β = -0.061, p = 0.004). Additionally, ERI not only had significant direct effects on safety climate (β = -0.42, p < 0.001), emotional labour (β = 0.30, p < 0.001) and QWL (β = -0.17, p < 0.001) but also indirectly affected QWL through safety climate (β = -0.304, p = 0.001) and emotional labour (β = -0.042, p = 0.005). Both safety climate (β = 0.72, p < 0.001) and emotional labour (β = -0.14, p = 0.003) showed significant direct effects on QWL. Our final model accounted for 72% of the variance in QWL. CONCLUSION Our results highlight the necessity of improving the QWL of nurses. Policymakers and hospital administrators should develop policies and strategies that encourage nurses to exhibit an appropriate level of commitment, balance effort and reward, establish a climate of safety, and reduce emotional labour to improve the QWL of hospital nurses.

Abstract
This study analyzes the impact of occupational burnout on the quality of life (QOL) of nurses surveyed during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. A total of 668 active nurses employed in public hospitals in Podkarpackie voivodeship (Poland) were surveyed. Throughout the pandemic, all wards where responders worked had a division into so-called "clean" and "dirty" zones, as well as balanced working hours. The research used the authors' survey questionnaire Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and the Polish version of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Instrument Short Form (WHOQOL-BREF). Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis of the collected material, while correlations between ordinal or quantitative variables were made using Spearman's-rho coefficient. According to 94.0% of respondents, stress is an integral part of the nursing profession. The mean of the respondents' MBI burnout was 50.83 +/- 9.05 pts. The respondents' overall quality of life also averaged 65.74 +/- 13.12 pts. There were negative statistically significant correlations between the MBI and BREF domains, most of which were characterized by clear strengths of association. Higher exhaustion in various occupational aspects is associated with poorer quality of life in individual domains.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it changes in the way of working and the well-being of workers. OBJECTIVE To identify research trends on work life quality and its impact on productivity in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. METHOD The Proknow-C constructivist methodology was used, with which a bibliographic portfolio of 49 articles obtained from the Web of Science was prepared, resulting from four stages of search between 2012 and 2022; a bibliometric analysis was performed on that database and bibliometric networks were created with the software VOSviewer; the systemic analysis of the articles was carried out, thus showing theories, definitions and indicators; and areas of opportunity of research were identified. RESULTS The most important high-impact specialized journals and authors, articles considered central, most used keywords such as job satisfaction, quality of work life and COVID-19, as well as the most representative countries such as European and Asian, are presented. CONCLUSION It was found that the health sector is one of the most studied, allowing researchers from other sectors the opportunity to delve into the issue of the affectations of the quality of work life reflected in productivity and common variables were synthesized such as job satisfaction, well-being, motivation and security, among others.

Abstract
Objectives: The aim of this study was to test the association between the sense of coherence, work engagement, and psychological distress in healthcare workers in Ecuador during the first phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study in a sample of 803 healthcare professionals from all regions of Ecuador between 2 April and 17 May 2020. A self-administered questionnaire was used, which contained sociodemographic and work environment variables, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES-9), the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), and Sense of Coherence Scale (SOC-13). Results: The mean value of sense of coherence was M = 65.04; SD = 12.74; for work engagement, it was M = 39.36; SD = 10.53; and for psychological distress, M = 4.58; SD = 3.44. There is a positive correlation (p < 0.01) between the sense of coherence and work engagement, and a negative correlation with psychological distress. Conclusion: During the pandemic in Ecuador, healthcare professionals have suffered a major deterioration of their mental health. Sense of coherence has been associated with work engagement and psychological distress. They have perceived a worsening of the quality of care and working conditions compared to those existing before COVID-19.

Abstract
AIM This paper aimed to investigate the relationship between social support and quality of life for nurses in infectious disease departments in China, as well as the function of psychological resilience in mediating this relationship. BACKGROUND Nurses in infectious disease departments play a critical role in the prevention and control of infectious diseases and in public health care services in general, and their quality of life can affect the quality of clinical nursing work they do. However, there are few studies on the relationship between nurses' social support networks and their quality of life. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted using a sample of 866 clinical nurses from the infectious disease departments of 10 general hospitals in China. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey from January to May 2021. The mediating influence of psychological resilience on social support and quality of life was investigated using structural equation modelling. RESULTS The score of quality of life was (36.36 ± 7.64). Quality of life was positively correlated with social support and psychological resilience (r1 = 0.521, r2 = 0.583; p < .01), and psychological resilience was positively correlated with social support (r = 0.426; p < .01) as well. The mediating effect of psychological resilience between social support and quality of life was 0.233, accounting for 37% of the total effect. CONCLUSION The quality of life of nurses working in infectious disease departments is in the middle level. Psychological resilience is a mediating variable between social support and quality of life. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING MANAGEMENT Managers can improve the quality of life of nurses by both increasing social support and strengthening psychological resilience. Managers should pay attention to the degree of social support provided to nurses and take proactive measures to build psychological resilience so that nurses can effectively manage stress and negative emotions from work and life in order improve their quality of life.

Abstract
Objective: At the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic enforced a rapid reallocation of healthcare resources. Our neurosurgical department is located in the German county of Marburg−Biedenkopf, about 80 km from the nearest major city. We were able to maintain our previously established open-door policy after the emergence of COVID-19. Here, we report on dynamics in the catchment area for neurotrauma patients at our department during the pandemic. Methods: 763 consecutive neurotrauma cases admitted to our department between 1 January 2018 and 31 December 2021 were analyzed retrospectively. Patients’ age, gender, origin, diagnoses, and outcomes were recorded. The number of patients hospitalized with a COVID-19 infection in Germany (PHCG) were retrieved from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI). We defined calendar weeks with >1000 PHCG as high COVID-19 caseload weeks (HCLW). Chi-square and Fisher’s exact served as statistical tests. Results: In 2020 and 2021, we observed a significantly increased number of neurotrauma patients who, with primary residence outside of our district, were admitted to our hospital compared to 2018 and 2019 (p < 0.001), while there were no significant differences in in-house mortality. During HCLW, a significantly increased number of neurotrauma patients with primary residence in the densely populated southwestern margin (SWM) of the contiguous part of our catchment area were referred to us compared to the time prior to the pandemic and between HCLW (p = 0.003). In neurotrauma patients admitted from the SWM during HCLW, there was no tendency towards higher in-house mortality. Conclusion: An open-door policy may moderate the risk of involuntarily triaging neurotrauma patients during a pandemic.
