Bio-Morphological Reaction of Human Periodontal Ligament Fibroblasts to Different Types of Dentinal Derivates: In Vitro Study

A comparison of oral bacteriome isolated from periodontal pockets of participants with or without diabetes mellitus in Uganda: a case control study

OBJECTIVE

Diabetes mellitus predisposes patients to increased incidence and severe forms of periodontal disease. Currently, information on the bacterial diversity of patients with diabetes mellitus and periodontitis in Uganda is scanty. This study set out to describe the bacteria associated with periodontitis in patients with diabetes mellitus in Uganda, as part of a larger study describing the association between periodontal disease and diabetes mellitus.

RESULTS

This was a case control involving 45 samples of gingival crevicular fluid collected from participants with periodontitis, the cases being 26 participants with diabetes mellitus and controls 19 participants without diabetes mellitus. Sequencing using the 16s Oxford nanopore long read protocol was followed by a bioinformatics analysis pipeline for alpha and beta diversity indices in the two groups. Multivariate tests were done to determine the differences in the bacterial composition in the two groups. Of the 739 Operational Taxonomic Units and 500 phyla identified, 37.9% (280/739) were from participants with diabetes mellitus. Analysis of beta diversity revealed a dissimilarity between the two study groups (CAP score = 0) with a significant association noted between periodontitis and the subgingival bacteria (P = 0.001). Diabetes mellitus reduced the quantity and altered the composition of the subgingival microbiome in the study participants.

A Low-Cost Protocol Using the Adjunctive Action of Povidone-Iodine Irrigations and Sodium Hypochlorite Rinsing Solution in Step 2 of Periodontal Therapy for Patients with Stage III-IV Periodontitis: A Single-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial

In severe stages of periodontitis, conventional periodontal therapy and maintenance care are usually insufficient due to the viral and bacterial etiology; thus, a mechanical approach alone may not be sufficient to eliminate a substantial portion of subgingival pathogens, especially in deep periodontal sites. Background and Objectives: This single-blind, randomized clinical trial aimed to compare the clinical and microbiological efficacy of a low-cost protocol using povidone-iodine and sodium hypochlorite formulations as adjuncts to non-surgical therapy for patients with stage IV periodontitis when compared with chlorhexidine, the most commonly employed substance to date for antimicrobial regimens in periodontal therapy. Materials and Methods: Forty-five patients were randomly divided into two groups: control (subgingival instrumentation, chlorhexidine-assisted) and test (antiviral medication, subgingival instrumentation with povidone-iodine, sodium hypochlorite rinsing solution, and antibiotics). Clinical measurements and microbiological analyses were performed at baseline and after three months. Results: After three months, notable differences were found in the bacterial detection scores for Porphyromonas gingivalis (a significant reduction in detection frequency was observed in the test compared to the control (p = 0.021)), and there were significant reductions in detection in the test group for Tannerella forsythia and Treponema denticola, showing undetectable levels (p < 0.0001 for both). In the test group, the pocket probing depth median value was reduced significantly (p = 0.0005); similarly, bleeding on probing showed a marked decrease (p < 0.0001). However, changes in clinical attachment loss and full-mouth plaque score were not statistically significant. Conclusions: Using the proposed protocol, substantial improvements in clinical and microbiological parameters were obtained when compared with the current antimicrobial recommendations.

Potency of the Combination of Chitosan and Hydroxyapatite on Angiogenesis and Fibroblast Cell Proliferation in Direct Pulp Capping of Rattus norvegicus

OBJECTIVES

 The aim of this research was to analyze expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), blood vessels, and fibroblast cell proliferation in direct pulp capping treatment of Rattus norvegicus using a combination of chitosan and hydroxyapatite paste.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

 The samples were male R. norvegicus strains of Wistar rats, weighing 200 to 250 g and aged between 8 and 16 weeks. The occlusal surface of the molars of R. norvegicus was prepared with class I cavity and then perforated with the tip of an explorer. Sixty male R. Norvegicus rats were divided into the following: control group (KA) in which the cavity was filled with glass ionomer cement; control group (KB), in which the cavity was filled with Ca(OH)2; PA group, in which the cavity was filled with chitosan (CH); PB group, in which the cavity was filled with hydroxyapatite (HA); and PC group, in which the cavity was filled with chitosan and hydroxyapatite (CH-HA). Each group was divided into 3-, 7-, and 14-day observation groups. The mandibular bone of the molar was cut and histopathological examination was performed to analyze the blood vessels and fibroblast cell proliferation. Immunohistochemistry examination was done to examine the expression of VEGF.

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

The data variation was analyzed with One Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test and continued with multiple comparison Least Significant (LSD) test to determine the different pairs of group.

RESULTS

 Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a significant increase in the expression of VEGF, blood vessels, and fibroblast cell proliferations (p ≤ 0.05;), especially in the PC group compared to the other four groups. The least significant test (LSD) test showed significant differences between the groups on the expression of VEGF, blood vessels, and fibroblast cell proliferations.

CONCLUSION

 The combination of chitosan and hydroxyapatite could promote healing of direct pulp capping treatment by increasing the expression of VEGF, blood vessel, and fibroblast cell proliferation.

Comparison of dental plaque flora between intellectually disabled patients and healthy individuals: a cross-sectional study

Periodontal diseases, including gingivitis, are highly prevalent in individuals with intellectual disability (ID). In particular, gingivitis can be difficult to cure owing to the lack of patient cooperation. Here, we evaluated differences in the oral bacterial flora between individuals with ID (n = 16) and healthy controls (n = 14) to facilitate the development of strategies for the prevention of periodontal disease in people with ID. Our results showed no significant difference in the number of decayed, missing, and filled teeth between the two groups. However, there were significant differences in the median papillary-marginal-attached index, plaque index, and gingival index between groups (P < 0.0001). Additionally, the mean probing depth in the ID group was significantly higher than that in the control group (P < 0.0001). The diversity of oral flora in people with ID and concurrent gingivitis was significantly lower than that of healthy individuals without periodontal disease. The relative abundances of Tannerella spp. and Treponema spp. were significantly higher in the ID group than in the control group at the genus level (P = 0.0383 and 0.0432, respectively), whereas that of Porphyromonas spp. was significantly lower in the ID group (P < 0.0001). Overall, our findings provided important insights into differences in the oral microbiota between patients with ID and healthy controls.

NLRP10 promotes AGEs-induced NLRP1 and NLRP3 inflammasome activation via ROS/MAPK/NF-κB signaling in human periodontal ligament cells

Diabetes mellitus (DM), characterized by production and accumulation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), induces and promotes chronic inflammation in tissues, including periodontal tissue. Increasing amount of epidemiological and experimental evidence demonstrated that more extensive inflammatory reaction and bone resorption occurred in periodontal tissues in diabetic patients with periodontitis, which is speculated to be related to NLRP3 inflammasome. NLRP10 is the only NOD-like receptor protein lacking leucine-rich repeats, suggesting that NLRP10 may be a regulatory protein. The aim of this study was to investigate the regulatory role of NLRP10 on NLRP1 and NLRP3 inflammasome in human periodontal ligament cells (HPDLCs) under AGEs treatment. Expression of NLRP10 in HPDLCs stimulated with 100 ug/mL AGEs for 24 h was observed. Detection of TRIM31 is conducted, and in TRIM31-overexpressed HPDLCs, the interaction between NLRP10 with TRIM31 as well as NLRP10 with ubiquitination were explored by immunoprecipitation. Under AGEs stimulation, the activation of reactive oxidative stress (ROS) and inflammatory signaling pathway (NF-κB, MAPK pathway) was detected by biomedical microscope and western blot (WB), respectively. After stimulation with AGEs for 24 h with or without silencing NLRP10, inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and IL-1β), NF-κB, MAPK pathway, ROS, and components of inflammasome were assessed. In HPDLCs, we found AGEs induced NLRP10 and inhibited TRIM31. TRIM31 overexpression significantly enhanced interaction between TRIM31 and NLRP10, then induced proteasomal degradation of NLRP10. Moreover, under AGEs stimulation, NLRP10 positively regulates NLRP1, NLRP3 inflammasomes by activating NF-κB, MAPK pathway, and increasing ROS, finally promoting the expression of inflammatory cytokines. Together, we, for the first time, confirmed that NLRP10 could promote inflammatory response induced by AGEs in HPDLCs via activation of NF-κB, and MAPK pathway and increasing ROS.

Demineralized dentin matrix promotes gingival healing in alveolar ridge preservation of premolars extracted for orthodontic reason: a split-mouth study

Objective

The purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate the efficacy of a demineralized dentin matrix (DDM) in decreasing the initial inflammatory response of the gingiva and facilitating the repair and regeneration of soft tissue in alveolar ridge preservation.

Methods

This clinical study employed a split-mouth design. Fourteen patients with a total of forty-four sites underwent extraction and alveolar ridge preservation (ARP) procedures. A Bilaterally symmetrical extraction operation were conducted on the premolars of each patient. The experimental group received DDM as a graft material for ARP, while the control group underwent natural healing. Within the first month postoperatively, the pain condition, color, and swelling status of the extraction sites were initially assessed at different time points Subsequently, measurements were taken for buccal gingival margin height, buccal-lingual width, extraction socket contour, and the extraction socket area and healing rate were digitally measured. Additionally, Alcian Blue staining was used for histological evaluation of the content during alveolar socket healing.

Results

Both groups experienced uneventful healing, with no adverse reactions observed at any of the extraction sites. The differences in VAS pain scores between the two groups postoperatively were not statistically significant. In the early stage of gingival tissue healing (3 days postoperatively), there were statistically significant differences in gingival condition and buccal gingival margin height between the two groups. In the later stage of gingival tissue healing (7, 14, and 30 days postoperatively), there were statistically significant differences in buccal-lingual width, extraction socket healing area, and healing rate between the two groups. Furthermore, the histological results from Alcian Blue staining suggested that the experimental group may play a significant role in promoting gingival tissue healing, possibly by regulating inflammatory responses when compared to the control group.

Conclusion

The application of DDM in alveolar ridge preservation has been found to diminish initial gingival inflammation after tooth extraction. Additionally, it has shown the ability to accelerate early gingival soft tissue healing and preserve its anatomical contour.

Dose-response effect of Montelukast on post-extraction dental socket repair and skeletal phenotype of mice

Bone metabolism and repair are directly regulated by arachidonic acid metabolites. At present, we analyzed the dose-response effects of a selective cysteinyl leukotriene receptor type-1 antagonist during bone repair after tooth extraction and on non-injured skeleton. Sixty-three 129 Sv/Ev male mice composed the groups: C-Control (saline solution); MTK2-2 mg/Kg of Montelukast (MTK) and MTK4-4 mg/Kg of MTK, daily administered by mouth throughout all experimental periods set at 7, 14, and 21 days post-operative. Dental sockets were analyzed by computed microtomography (microCT), histopathology, and immunohistochemistry. Femurs, L5 vertebra and organs were also removed for observation. Blood was collected for plasma bone and liver markers. Histopathology and microCT analysis revealed early socket repair of MTK2 and MTK4 animals, with significant increased BV/TV at days 14 and 21 compared to C. Higher plasma calcium was detected at days 7 and 21 in MTK4 in comparison to C, while phosphate was significantly increased in MTK2 in the same periods in comparison to C and MTK4. No significant differences were found regarding plasma ALP and TRAP, neither for local TRAP and Runx2 immunolabeling at the healing sockets. Organs did not present histological abnormalities. Increased AST levels have been detected in distinct groups and periods. In general, femur phenotype was improved in MTK treated animals. Collectively, MTK promoted early bone formation after tooth extraction and increased bone quality of femurs and vertebra in a time-dose-dependent manner, and should be considered as an alternative therapy when improved post-extraction socket repair or skeleton preservation is required.

Antibacterial and pH-sensitive methacrylate poly-L-Arginine/poly (β-amino ester) polymer for soft tissue engineering

During the last decade, pH-sensitive biomaterials containing antibacterial agents have grown exponentially in soft tissue engineering. The aim of this study is to synthesize a biodegradable pH sensitive and antibacterial hydrogel with adjustable mechanical and physical properties for soft tissue engineering. This biodegradable copolymer hydrogel was made of Poly-L-Arginine methacrylate (Poly-L-ArgMA) and different poly (β- amino ester) (PβAE) polymers. PβAE was prepared with four different diacrylate/diamine monomers including; 1.1:1 (PβAE1), 1.5:1 (PβAE1.5), 2:1 (PβAE2), and 3:1 (PβAE3), which was UV cross-linked using dimethoxy phenyl-acetophenone agent. These PβAE were then used for preparation of Poly-L-ArgMA/PβAE polymers and revealed a tunable swelling ratio, depending on the pH conditions. Noticeably, the swelling ratio increased by 1.5 times when the pH decreased from 7.4 to 5.6 in the Poly-L-ArgMA/PβAE1.5 sample. Also, the controllable degradation rate and different mechanical properties were obtained, depending on the PβAE monomer ratio. Noticeably, the tensile strength of the PβAE hydrogel increased from 0.10 ± 0.04 MPa to 2.42 ± 0.3 MPa, when the acrylate/diamine monomer molar ratio increased from 1.1:1 to 3:1. In addition, Poly-L-ArgMA/PβAE samples significantly improved L929 cell viability, attachment and proliferation. Poly-L-ArgMA also enhanced the antibacterial activities of PβAE against both Escherichia coli (~5.1 times) and Staphylococcus aureus (~2.7 times). In summary, the antibacterial and pH-sensitive Poly-L-ArgMA/PβAE1.5 with suitable mechanical, degradation and biological properties could be an appropriate candidate for soft tissue engineering, specifically wound healing applications.

Using Odontoblasts Derived from Dog Endometrial Stem Cells Encapsulated in Fibrin Gel Associated with BMP-2 in a Rat Pulp-Capping Model

This study aimed to treat dental injuries by utilizing one of the most advanced tissue engineering techniques. In this study, an in vitro model was employed to investigate the proliferation and odontogenic differentiation of canine endometrial stem cells (C-EnSCs). Furthermore, the dentin regeneration potential of odontoblast like-cells (OD) derived from C-EnSCs was assessed in rats. The C-EnSCs were isolated by the enzymatic method and identified by flow cytometry. The C-EnSCs were encapsulated in fibrin gel associated with signaling factors to create the proper conditions for cell growth and differentiation. Then, the OD cells were associated with bone morphologic protein-2 (BMP-2) to promote dentin formation in vivo. The animal model used to evaluate the regenerative effect of cells and biomaterials included the preparation of the left maxillary first molar of rats for direct pulp capping operation. Animals were divided into four groups: group 1, a control group without any treatment, group 2, which received fibrin, group 3, which received fibrin with ODs (fibrin/ODs), and group 4, which received fibrin with ODs and BMP-2 (fibrin/ODs/BMP-2). The morphological observations showed the differentiation of C-EnSCs into adipose, bone, neural cells, and ODs. Furthermore, the histomorphometric data of the treated teeth showed how fibrin gel and BMP2 at a concentration of 100 ng/mL provided an optimal microenvironment for regenerating dentin tissue in rats, which was increased significantly with the presence of OD cells within eight weeks. Our study showed that using OD cells derived from C-EnSCs encapsulated in fibrin gel associated with BMP2 can potentially be an appropriate candidate for direct pulp-capping and dentin regeneration.

Encapsulation of human endometrial stem cells in chitosan hydrogel containing titanium oxide nanoparticles for dental pulp repair and tissue regeneration in male Wistar rats

This study aimed to determine the impact of human endometrial stem cells (EnSCs) and titanium oxide nanoparticles (TiO₂ NPs) on dental pulp repair and regeneration in an animal model through dentine development and tissue regeneration. The EnSCs were put on a three-dimensional (3D) chitosan scaffold containing TiO₂ NPs after obtaining and purifying the collagenase enzyme. Pulps were exposed on the maxillary left first molar of all rats followed by direct pulp capping with the experimental scaffolds, as follows. Groups were: 1, control group without any treatment; 2, chitosan group (CS); 3, chitosan group with stem cells (CS/SCs); 4, chitosan group with stem cells and TiO₂ NPs (CS/EnSCs/TiO₂). Glass ionomer was used as a sealant in all groups. The teeth were extracted and histologically evaluated after 8 weeks. The quality and amount of dentine in the CS/EnSCs/TiO₂ group were higher than in the other groups. The combination of EnSCs with TiO₂ NPs and 3D chitosan scaffolds had a synergistic effect on each other, evidencing increased speed and quality of dentine formation. Using EnSCs with TiO₂ NPs on a 3D chitosan scaffold can be a suitable combination for direct pulp capping and dentine regeneration in a rat molar tooth model.

In vitro release of silver ions and expression of osteogenic genes by MC3T3-E1 cell line cultured on nano-hydroxyapatite and silver/strontium-coated titanium plates

Attempts are ongoing to improve the surface properties of dental implants by application of different coatings, aiming to enhance osseointegration, and decrease the adverse effects of titanium and its alloys used in dental implants. Coating of implant surface with hydroxyapatite (HA) is one suggested strategy for this purpose due to its high biocompatibility and similar structure to the adjacent bone. This study aimed to quantify the release of silver ions and expression of osteogenic genes by MC3T3-E1 cells cultured on nano-HA and silver/strontium (Ag/Sr)-coated titanium plates via the electrochemical deposition method. Plates measuring 10 × 10 × 0.9 mm were fabricated from Ti-6Al-4 V alloy, and polished with silicon carbide abrasive papers before electrochemical deposition to create a smooth, mirror-like surface. After applying homogenous nano-HA coatings with/without silver/strontium on the surface of the plates, the composition of coatings was confirmed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and their morphological properties were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The coated specimens were then immersed in simulated body fluid (SBF), and the concentration of released sliver ions was quantified by spectroscopy at 7-14 days. The MC3T3-E1 osteoblastic cell line was cultured in osteogenic medium for 7-14 days, and after RNA extraction and cDNA synthesis, the expression of runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), osteocalcin (OCN), and osteopontin (OPN); osteogenic genes was quantified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using SYBR Green Master Mix kit. The expression of genes and the released amount of silver ions were compared between the two groups using the Mann-Whitney U test. The two groups were not significantly different regarding silver ion release at 14 days (P > 0.05). However, silver ion release was significantly higher from nano-HA coatings with silver/strontium at 7 days (P = 0.03). The difference in expression of RUNX2 (P = 0.04), OPN (P = 0.04), and OCN (P = 0.03) genes was also significant between nano-HA coating groups with and without silver/strontium at 7 days, and the expressions were higher in nano-HA with silver/strontium group, but this difference was not significant at 14 days. Addition of silver and strontium to specimens coated with nano-HA increased the release of silver ions within the non-toxic range, and enhanced the expression of osteogenic genes particularly after 7 days.

Regeneration of periodontal bone defects with mesenchymal stem cells in animal models. Systematic review and meta-analysis

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in the regeneration of periodontal bone defects in animal models. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following the PRISMA guidelines, and the study was recorded in PROSPERO under reference number CDR42021247462. The PICO question was: is periodontal regeneration (cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone) with MSCs more effective than other techniques? Three groups were considered: Group 1: MSCs alone or mixed with regenerative materials. Group 2: only regenerative materials. Group 3: no regenerative material nor MSCs. The search was conducted using MeSH with a total of 18 articles for qualitative analysis and 5 for quantitative analysis. For the meta-analysis, a modification of the effect size algorithm was developed, which considered a comparison of means between treatments using the Student's t sample distribution. When comparing the effect size between Group 1 and Group 2, the effect size for the new cementum was 2.83 mm with an estimated confidence interval of 95% (CI 95%) between 0.48 and 5.17 mm. When considering the fit to a random-effects model, the combined variance (τ²) was 6.1573 mm, with a standard deviation (SD) of 5.6008 mm and a percentage of total heterogeneity I² of 92.33% (p < 0.0001). For new bone, the effect size was 0.88 mm, CI 95% - 0.25 to 2.01 mm, τ² = 1.3108 mm (SD = 1.2021 mm) and I² = 80.46%, p = 0.0004). With regard to the new periodontal ligament, it was not possible for the meta-analysis to be performed. MSCs have a greater capacity for tissue regeneration in root cementum than in alveolar bone compared to other regenerative materials.

Modified pulpotomy procedure in immature permanent teeth with apical periodontitis: a randomised controlled trial

OBJECTIVES

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a modified pulpotomy (MP) procedure in immature permanent teeth with apical periodontitis (AP).

DESIGN

Randomised controlled trial.

SETTING

One public hospital in Shanghai, China PARTICIPANTS: A total of 33 teeth (31 patients) with a definitive diagnosis of AP with radiographic periapical radiolucency were recruited in this study. All the patients (teeth) completed the study accordingly.

METHODS AND INTERVENTION

Patients were randomly assigned to either MP or apexification treatment groups and were followed up for 12 months. Clinical symptoms and complications were recorded, and parallel periapical radiographic images were used to measure changes in root length and apical diameter. Wilcoxon's rank sum test and Fisher's exact test were used to compare the clinical and radiographic outcomes between MP and apexification, and analysed with analysis of variance.

MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE

The primary outcome was increase in root length at 12 months. The secondary outcomes included tooth survival, clinical success and decrease in apical diameter.

RESULTS

MP group showed a significant increase in root length (10.05%±2.14% vs 1.16%±0.79%, p<0.05) at 12 months and a decrease in apical diameter (48.88%±10.42% vs 15.90%±8.88%, p<0.05) as compared with the apexification group. The tooth survival rate was 100%, and 90.91% (30/33) of teeth were asymptomatic with apical healing in both treatment groups (p>0.05).

CONCLUSIONS

MP can be an option for treating immature permanent teeth with AP. MP showed better performance in terms of continued root maturation than apexification. MP and apexification achieved comparable outcomes with regard to the resolution of clinical symptoms and apical healing.

Autogenous Dentin Particulate Graft for Alveolar Ridge Augmentation with and without Use of Collagen Membrane: Preliminary Histological Analysis on Humans

(1) Background: The phenomenon of ankylosis of the dental elements has led clinicians to think that properly treated dentin and cement may be a potential graft for alveolar ridge augmentation. Currently, there are no studies in the literature able to histomorphometrically compare the healing patterns of an autogenous dentin particulate graft with the association, or not, of resorbable membranes. The aim of this pilot study is to histologically compare bone after an alveolar ridge augmentation using an autogenous dentin particulate graft with and without a resorbable collagen membrane. (2) Methods: this clinical trial enrolled six patients with defects requiring bone augmentation. Two procedures were performed in all six adult human patients in order to perform a study–control study: in Group 1, a ridge augmentation procedure with an autogenous dentin particulate graft and a resorbable collagen membrane was performed, and, in Group 2, an alveolar ridge preservation without a membrane was performed at the same time (T0). At 4 months, a biopsy of the bone tissues was performed using a 4 mm trephine bur in order to perform a histomorphometric analysis. (3) Results: The histomorphometric analysis demonstrated that Group 1 presented 45% of bone volume, 38% of vital bone, and 7% of residual graft. On the contrary, membrane-free regenerative procedures demonstrated 37% of bone volume, 9% of vital bone, and 27% of non-resorbed graft. In all cases, the regenerated bone allowed the insertion of implants with a standard platform, and no early failures were recorded. (4) Conclusions: Autogenous dentin particulate grafts seem to work best when paired with a membrane.

A prospective clinical study with one year follow up of deep caries management using a novel biomaterial

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this study was to check the outcome of the direct and indirect pulp capping procedure using MTA (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate) by comparing the pre-and post-operative pain by using VAS scale, associating the pre- and post- operative changes in intraoral periapical radiograph and clinical symptoms.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

In this prospective clinical study 10 cases (5 for direct and 5 for indirect) with deep carious lesions (symptomatic) with no periapical changes were selected for the trial. The participants were subjected to deep caries management procedure under rubber dam where MTA is placed as pulp capping material followed by immediate restoration with sandwich technique using composite resin. The participants were followed up at recall visits of 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year intervals for clinical and radiographic evaluation.

RESULTS

The results of the study, analyzing the VAS, clinical symptoms and radiographic changes did not show any signs of pain, clinical and radiographic symptoms at 1 month, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year intervals.

CONCLUSIONS

It was concluded that MTA can be used for deep caries management as a pulp capping material which being equivalent to calcium hydroxide.

Efficacy of concentrated growth factor with low-level laser for the regeneration of interdental papilla defects

Gingival "black triangle" is common in clinical which due to interdental papilla recession. The cause of the loss of papilla is multi-factorial and it may be caused by the absorption of interdental alveolar bone or abnormal tooth position. Besides, it is a common complication after orthodontics and implant surgery. Recession of gingival papilla influences interdental plaque control, increasing food impaction and alveolar bone absorption, causing aesthetic and pronunciation problems. Thus, the way of reducing or eliminating the gingival "black triangle" has become one of the most essential problems for dentists. Concentrated growth factor (CGF) and low-level-laser therapy have been widely used, respectively, and CGF was considered as the only self-substance which has soft tissue regeneration function. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of regenerating interdental papilla by Liquid phase concentrated growth factor (LPCGF) injection with low-level-laser therapy (LLLT).
