Abstract
Numerous cultural adaptations of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia 11-item version (TSK-11) scale have emerged since the original version was introduced. We conducted a (COnsensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstruments) COSMIN-informed systematic review of measurement properties to identify the cross-cultural adaptation of the TSK-11 and report, critically appraise, and systematize its measurement properties. Six databases were searched for studies published since 2005. Studies reporting on the measurement properties of culturally adapted versions of the TSK-11, published in English, Portuguese, and Spanish, were considered for inclusion. The results were synthesized by measurement properties and rated against the COSMIN criteria for good measurement properties. The quality of the evidence was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach and presented in a summary of findings table. Twenty-three studies were included, and cultural adaptations for 15 languages were identified: English, Chinese, Cantonese, Swedish, German, Dutch, Arabic, Turkish, Danish, Spanish, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Marathi, Thai, and Persian. There is "high" certainty in the evidence for "sufficient" criterion validity (TSK-17, r = .84) and "insufficient" measurement error (small detectable change range 5.6-6.16). "Moderate" certainty in the evidence for "sufficient" construct validity (87.8% of hypotheses confirmed), test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient2,1 = .747-.87), and "low" certainty in evidence for "sufficient" responsiveness. The numerous sources of heterogeneity prevent conclusions from being drawn regarding structural validity. Measurement error, responsiveness, and structural validity of the TSK-11 require further investigation. Clinicians should complement the use of TSK-11 with other instruments. Future studies on the structural validity of the questionnaire should standardize the data analysis methods. PERSPECTIVE: This article presents the measurement properties of the cross-cultural adaptations of the TSK-11. Clinicians should be aware that cultural and clinical aspects may influence the structural validity of the questionnaire. Using the TSK-11 as a stand-alone instrument may omit relevant clinical progression in the patient's condition.

Abstract
The aim of the present study was to determine the gender respiratory differences of bilateral diaphragm thickness, respiratory pressures, and pulmonary function in patients with low back pain (LBP). A sample of 90 participants with nonspecific LBP was recruited and matched paired by sex (45 women and 45 men). Respiratory outcomes included bilateral diaphragm thickness by ultrasonography, respiratory muscle strength by maximum inspiratory (MIP) and expiratory (MEP) pressures, and pulmonary function by forced expiratory volume during 1 s (FEV1), forced vital capacity (FVC) and FEV1/FVC spirometry parameters. The comparison of respiratory outcomes presented significant differences (p < 0.001), with a large effect size (d = 1.26-1.58) showing means differences (95% CI) for MIP of -32.26 (-42.99, -21.53) cm H2O, MEP of -50.66 (-64.08, -37.25) cm H2O, FEV1 of -0.92 (-1.18, -0.65) L, and FVC of -1.00 (-1.32, -0.69) L, with lower values for females versus males. Gender-based respiratory differences were presented for maximum respiratory pressures and pulmonary function in patients with nonspecific LBP. Women presented greater inspiratory and expiratory muscle weakness as well as worse lung function, although these differences were not linked to diaphragm thickness during normal breathing.

Abstract
The effects of hypopressive exercise (HE) on dynamic balance have never been studied. We aimed to study the effects of a HE program on dynamic balance, posterior chain kinematics and expiratory peak flow on female competitive roller skaters over a 6-week training period. Twenty competitive female roller-skaters (13-22 years of age, SD 2.25) performed a 30-minute HE session once weekly before the regular roller-skating practice for 6 weeks. The HE program consisted of breathing and postural awareness exercises in addition to 5 basic HE poses performed three times each. Dynamic neuromuscular control was assessed with the Y-Balance Test (YBT), posterior back chain kinematics with the sit and reach test and peak expiratory flow rate with a digital spirometer. Paired t-test revealed significant differences between the measurement periods for all YBT leg directions and composite score (p ≤ 0.01). Significant differences were also revealed between baseline and after the intervention for the sit and reach test (p ≤ 0.01) and peak expiratory flow (p = 0.01). No differences in forced expiratory volume in the first second were found (p = 0.04). These preliminary findings suggest that a 6-week HE program could be a feasible neuromuscular option for training dynamic balance, posterior back chain kinematics and peak expiratory flow in female roller-skaters.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A range of studies concerning the effects of breathing exercises on chronic low back pain (CLBP) have been proven inconclusive. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of breathing exercises for the treatment of CLBP. METHODS We considered randomized controlled trials in English or Chinese that used breathing exercises for the treatment of CLBP. An electronic search was performed in the MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wan Fang, and CBM databases for articles published up to November 2022. Two reviewers independently screened the articles, assessed the risk of bias using the Cochrane risk of bias tool, and extracted the data. The outcomes included pain, lumbar function and pulmonary function post-intervention. RESULTS A total of thirteen studies (n= 677) satisfied the inclusion criteria. The meta-analysis results demonstrated a significant effect of breathing exercises on the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score (SMD =-0.84, 95% CI: -1.24 to -0.45, P< 0.0001), the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) score (SMD =-0.74, 95% CI: -0.95 to -0.54, P< 0.00001), Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) score (MD = 0.24, 95% CI: 0.10 to 0.37, P= 0.0006), Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 second /Forced Vital Capacity (FEV1/FVC) (MD = 1.90, 95% CI: 0.73 to 3.07, P= 0.001), although there was no significant difference between the breathing exercises and control interventions for Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second (FEV1) score (MD = 0.22, 95% CI = [0.00, 0.43], P= 0.05), and Maximal Voluntary Ventilation (MVV) score (MD = 8.22, 95% CI = [-4.02, 20.45], P= 0.19). CONCLUSION Breathing exercises can reduce pain, assist people with lumbar disabilities, and improve pulmonary function, and could be considered as a potential alternative treatment for CLBP.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Hypopressive exercises (HE) are postural and breathing exercises that activate deep muscles in the abdomen and pelvic floor. Despite this, there is still no consensus in the literature on its real effectiveness. The objective was to analyze the effects of HE on the abdominal and pelvic floor muscles in women with or without dysfunctions in these regions. METHODS This is a systematic review of randomized clinical trials found in the PEDro, PubMed, Cochrane, LILACS, and Embase databases. We include studies that evaluate the effects of HE (with or without other techniques) on the pelvic floor and abdominal region for 8 weeks or more, in women over 18 years old, with or without dysfunction in these regions, with the presence of a control group (active or passive). RESULTS HE were effective in improving strength, tone, and reducing symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunctions, in magnitude less than (in two studies) or equal (in one study) to the pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT). When HE were performed with PFMT in the same group, no additional benefits were found. Only one study evaluated abdominal muscles activation, where HE were effective in improving postural control and activation of the transversus abdominis muscle. CONCLUSIONS The HE presented positive results to the evaluated parameters. However, the information is still preliminary and scarce. There are methodological divergences regarding the execution, follow-up and standardization of the method, which could affect the results. According to the existing information, HE cannot yet be reliably indicated for the treatment of the pelvic floor, despite pointing out relevant results in some studies. More randomized clinical trials and long-term studies are needed to analyze the effects of HE not only for pelvic floor, but also for other regions, such as abdominal muscles and related dysfunctions.

Abstract
Background In the context of COVID-19, respiratory training is vital for the care and recuperation of individuals. Both exercise-based and instrumental respiratory training have been employed as interventions to enhance respiratory function, providing relief from symptoms in those impacted by the virus. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of two different respiratory rehabilitation programs. Methods A total of 200 participants affected with COVID-19 respiratory sequels were recruited, with a block randomization regarding sex to ensure equal and appropriate applicability of the results. An experimental controlled and randomized study was conducted, with participants engaging in a 31 days respiratory rehabilitation program, (a) experimental group, inspiratory training device combined with aerobic exercise and (b) traditional respiratory exercises combined with aerobic exercise. Results Both groups improved in cardiorespiratory parameters, with a decrease in systolic and diastolic pressure, dyspnea and lower limbs fatigue, and increased oxygen saturation, 6 min walking distance, diaphragmatic thickness, forced vital capacity, forced expiratory volume during the first second, peak expiratory flow rate, forced inspiratory vital capacity and maximal inspiratory pressure. Comparison between groups showed statistically significant differences in all variables except for oxygen saturation, 6 min walking distance and diaphragmatic thickness. The results of this study support the use of specific inspiration training devices for respiratory rehabilitation in COVID-19 sequels.

Abstract
Background Kinesiophobia (i.e., fear of movement) can be an important contributor for ongoing pain and disability in people with spine-related pain. It remains unclear whether physical activity interventions/exercise influence kinesiophobia in this population. A systematic review was therefore conducted to synthesize the available evidence on whether physical activity interventions/exercise influence kinesiophobia in people with chronic non-specific spine-related pain. Methods The study protocol was registered prospectively with PROSPERO (CRD42021295755). The following databases were systematically searched from inception to 31 January 2022 and updated on 22 June 2023: PubMed, MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, PsycINFO, ZETOC, PROSPERO and Google Scholar. Inclusion criteria were randomized or non-randomized controlled studies investigating adults aged ≥18 years, reporting the effect of exercise or physical activity on kinesiophobia in individuals with chronic non-specific spine-related pain. Two reviewers independently extracted data and assessed the quality of the included studies. Bias was assessed using the Cochrane ROB2 tool and evidence certainty via Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE). Results Seventeen studies from seven countries involving a total of 1,354 individuals were selected for inclusion. The majority of studies (n = 13) involved participants with chronic low back pain (LBP), and Pilates was the most common form of exercise evaluated. Most of the studies reported a positive direction of effect in favor of exercise reducing kinesiophobia when compared to a control group. There was moderate to high risk of bias among the studies and the overall certainty of the evidence was very low. Conclusion This review supports the use of exercise for reducing kinesiophobia in people with chronic LBP albeit with very low certainty of evidence; Pilates (especially equipment-based) was shown to be effective as were strengthening training programmes. There was limited evidence available on the effects of exercise on kinesiophobia for people with chronic neck or thoracic pain and further research is required. Abstract
Hypopressive exercises (HE) are part of the Low Pressure Fitness training program which is widely used by physical therapists in the rehabilitation of the pelvic floor, abdominal and spinal musculature. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of HE on the sagittal lumbo-pelvic posture in athletic and non-athletic females. It was hypothesized that a 5-week training program of HE could influence lumbo-pelvic position while reducing abdominal circumference and low back pain in athletic and non-athletic females. Twenty normoweight females (mean age = 24.8 (SD 3.5) years; body mass index = 22.4 (SD 1.6) kg/m2) participated in this study. Ten athletic females were rugby players (RG), and 10 females were non-athletic (SG). Participants completed twenty minutes of HE twice weekly for 5 weeks. Before and after the intervention, two-dimension photogrammetry was used to assess lumbar lordosis and pelvic horizontal alignment. A Visual Analog Scale was used to assess low back pain and cirtometry was used to assess abdominal circumferences at umbilical, supra and infra-umbilical levels. An analysis of variance between moments revealed no significant differences in lumbar lordosis and pelvic positioning but showed significant differences for abdominal circumferences between groups. No significant differences between groups were found for other variables. Significant correlations were found between the three different abdominal circumference measurements (p > 0.05) but not between lumbar lordosis and abdominal circumferences. These preliminary findings indicate that a 5-week HE intervention displayed non-significant changes in lumbar lordosis, pelvic horizontal alignment, and low back pain but a significant reduction in abdominal circumferences in non-athletic and athletic females.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) is effective for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP), but other exercise programs have also been promoted and used. The aim of this review was to evaluate the effect of hypopressive and other exercise programs besides PFMT for POP. METHODS A literature search was conducted on Ovid Medline, EMBASE, CINAHL, Cochrane, PEDro, and Scopus databases from January 1996 to 30 December 2021. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. The keywords were combinations of "pelvic organ prolapse" or "urogenital prolapse," and "exercise therapy," "hypopressive exercise," "Kegel," "pelvic floor muscle training," "pelvic floor muscle exercises," "Pilates," "treatment," "yoga," "Tai Chi." Methodological quality was assessed using the PEDro rating scale (0-10). RESULTS Seven RCTs containing hypopressive exercise, yoga or breathing and hip muscle exercises in an inverted position were retrieved and analyzed. PEDro score ranged from 4 to 7. There was no additional effect of adding hypopressive exercise to PFMT, and PFMT was more effective than hypopressive exercise alone. The studies that included the term "yoga" included regular PFMT and thus can be classified as PFMT. Hip exercises in an inverted position added to PFMT vs PFMT alone showed better improvement in some secondary outcomes but not in the primary outcome, POP stage. CONCLUSIONS There are few RCTs assessing the effects of other exercise programs besides PFMT in the treatment of POP. To date, there is no evidence that other exercise programs are more effective than PFMT for POP.

Ultrasonography Comparison of Diaphragm Morphological Structure and Function in Young and Middle-Aged Subjects with and without Non-Specific Chronic Low Back Pain: A Case-Control Study. Abstract
Background It is reported that impaired postural control in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain (NCLBP) was associated with "core" trunk muscle incoordination. However, as the diaphragm is an important component of the "core" deep trunk muscle group, we still know little about the potential relationship between diaphragm dysfunction and NCLBP. Objectives This case-control study is intended to investigate the changes of diaphragm morphological structure and function in young and middle-aged subjects with and without NCLBP by ultrasound evaluation and its possible validity in predicating the occurrence of NCLBP. Methods 31 subjects with NCLBP (NCLBP group) and 32 matched healthy controls (HC group) were enrolled in this study. The diaphragm thickness at the end of inspiration (T ins) or expiration (T exp) during deep breathing was measured through B-mode ultrasound, and the diaphragm excursion (T exc) was estimated at deep breathing through M-mode ultrasound. The diaphragm thickness change rate (T rate) was calculated by the formula: T rate=(T ins - T exp)/T exp × 100%. Results Compared with the HC group, the NCLBP group had a significant smaller degree of Tins (t = -3.90, P < 0.001), T exp (Z = -2.79, P=0.005), and T rate (t = -2.03, P=0.047). However, there was no statistical difference in T exc between the two groups (t = -1.42, P=0.161). The binary logistic regression analysis indicated that T rate (OR = 16.038, P=0.014) and T exp (OR = 7.714, P=0.004) were potential risk factors for the occurrence of NCLBP. Conclusions The diaphragm morphological structure and function were changed in young and middle-aged subjects with NCLBP, while the diaphragm thickness change rate (T rate) and diaphragm thickness at the end of expiration (T exp) may be conductive to the occurrence of NCLBP. Furthermore, these findings may suggest that abnormal diaphragm reeducation is necessary for the rehabilitation of patients with NCLBP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) is an important mechanism stabilizing the spine and trunk. IAP regulation depends on the coordination of abdominal muscles, diaphragm and pelvic floor muscles. OBJECTIVE To determine the differences in abdominal wall tension (AWT) of various postural positions, first without any correction, then after verbal and manual instructions according to Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) principles. METHODS In a cross-sectional observational study, thirty healthy individuals (mean age = 22.73 ± 1.91 years) were fitted with two Ohmbelt sensors contralaterally above the inguinal ligament and in the upper lumbar triangle. AWT was measured during five postural positions: sitting, supine with legs raised, squat, bear and hang position. First, spontaneous AWT was measured, then again after manual and verbal instructions following DNS principles. RESULTS AWT increased significantly with DNS instructions compared to spontaneous activation. Both sensors recorded significant increases (p < .01; Cohen's d = -1.13 to -2.06) in all observed postural situations. The increase in activity occurred simultaneously on both sensors, with no significant differences noted in pressure increases between the sensors. The greatest activation for both sensors occurred in the bear position. Significant increases in activity were identified for both sensors in the supine leg raise position and in the bear position compared to spontaneous activation in sitting (p < .001). There were no statistically significant differences (for both sensors) between women and men in any position. CONCLUSION The amount of AWT significantly increases after verbal and manual instructions according to DNS. The greatest abdominal wall activation was achieved in the bear position.

Abstract
Worldwide, healthcare systems had to respond to an exponential increase in COVID-19 patients with a noteworthy increment in intensive care units (ICU) admissions and invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). The aim was to determine low intensity respiratory muscle training (RMT) effects in COVID-19 patients upon medical discharge and after an ICU stay with IMV. A retrospective case-series study was performed. Forty COVID-19 patients were enrolled and divided into twenty participants who received IMV during ICU stay (IMV group) and 20 participants who did not receive IMV nor an ICU stay (non-IMV group). Maximal expiratory pressure (PEmax), maximal inspiratory pressure (PImax), COPD assessment test (CAT) and Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnea scale were collected at baseline and after 12 weeks of low intensity RMT. A greater MRC dyspnea score and lower PImax were shown at baseline in the IMV group versus the non-IMV group (p < 0.01). RMT effects on the total sample improved all outcome measurements (p < 0.05; d = 0.38−0.98). Intragroup comparisons after RMT improved PImax, CAT and MRC scores in the IMV group (p = 0.001; d = 0.94−1.09), but not for PImax in the non-IMV group (p > 0.05). Between-groups comparison after RMT only showed MRC dyspnea improvements (p = 0.020; d = 0.74) in the IMV group versus non-IMV group. Furthermore, PImax decrease was only predicted by the IMV presence (R2 = 0.378). Low intensity RMT may improve respiratory muscle strength, health related quality of life and dyspnea in COVID-19 patients. Especially, low intensity RMT could improve dyspnea level and maybe PImax in COVID-19 patients who received IMV in ICU.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the intra-rater reliability and agreement of diaphragm and intercostal muscle elasticity and thickness during tidal breathing. The diaphragm and intercostal muscle parameters were measured using shear wave elastography in adolescent athletes. To calculate intra-rater reliability, intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman statistics were used. The reliability/agreement for one-day both muscle measurements (regardless of probe orientation) were at least moderate. During the seven-day interval between measurements, the reliability of a single measurement depended on the measured parameter, transducer orientation, respiratory phase, and muscle. Excellent reliability was found for diaphragm shear modulus at the peak of tidal expiration in transverse probe position (ICC3.1 = 0.91-0.96; ICC3.2 = 0.95), and from poor to excellent reliability for the intercostal muscle thickness at the peak of tidal inspiration with the longitudinal probe position (ICC3.1 = 0.26-0.95; ICC3.2 = 0.15). The overall reliability/agreement of the analysed data was higher for the diaphragm measurements (than the intercostal muscles) regardless of the respiratory phase and probe position. It is difficult to identify a more appropriate probe position to examine these muscles. The shear modulus/thickness of the diaphragm and intercostal muscles demonstrated good reliability/agreement so this appears to be a promising technique for their examination in athletes.

Abstract
Diaphragmatic weakness and thickness reduction have been detected in athletes with lumbopelvic pain (LPP). Strength training of inspiratory muscles may be necessary for athletes with LPP. Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) and visual biofeedback by rehabilitative ultrasound imaging (RUSI) have been proposed as possible interventions. Here, we determine the effectiveness of visual biofeedback by RUSI with a proposed novel thoracic orthotic device to facilitate diaphragmatic contraction in conjunction with high-intensity IMT in athletes with non-specific LPP. A single-blinded, parallel-group, randomized clinical trial was performed (NCT04097873). Of 86 participants assessed for eligibility, 64 athletes with non-specific LPP (39 males and 25 females; mean age, 33.15 ± 7.79 years) were recruited, randomized, analyzed and received diaphragm visual biofeedback by RUSI in conjunction with high-intensity IMT (RUSI+IMT; n = 32) or isolated high-intensity IMT (IMT; n = 32) interventions for 8 weeks. Diaphragmatic thickness during normal breathing, maximum respiratory pressures, pain intensity, pressure pain threshold on lumbar musculature, disability by the Roland−Morris questionnaire, quality of life by the SF-12 questionnaire and spirometry respiratory parameters were assessed at baseline and after the 8-week intervention. There were significant differences (p = 0.015), within a medium effect size (Cohen’s d = 0.62) for the forced expiratory volume in 1-s (FEV1), which was increased in the RUSI+IMT intervention group relative to the IMT alone group. Adverse effects were not observed. The rest of the outcomes did not show significant differences (p > 0.05). Diaphragm visual biofeedback by RUSI with the proposed novel thoracic orthotic device in conjunction with high-intensity IMT improved lung function by increasing FEV1 in athletes with non-specific LPP.

Abstract
Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a prevalent disfunction in the spine, affecting both women and men. The implication of the abdominal muscles in this disfunction has been studied, including wrong breathing patterns or inactivity of this area. However, there is a lack of studies examining changes in thickness of abdominal with ultrasonography. Thus, the aim of this study is to analyze the differences in the thickness of abdominal muscles at rest and during breathing between subjects with and without CLBP. A total of 72 subjects were divided in two groups: participants with CLBP (n = 36) and participants without CLBP (n = 36). In both groups, the thickness of the four abdominal muscles was measured and compared at rest and during breathing with ultrasonography. In TrA and IO there were no significant differences between groups, but those subjects with CLBP increased the muscle thickness more than participants without pain during breathing. In EO there were no differences in muscle thickness between groups and between rest and breathing. In RA, subjects with CLBP showed less muscle thickness than subjects without pain during breathing, but no changes were found at rest. In conclusion, the deepest abdominal muscles, TrA and IO, appear to increase their thickness and RA appear to decrease more in subjects with CLBP, in comparison with healthy participants.
