Abstract
Background & Aims There is a growing focus on the role of dietary factors and metabolic conditions in the evolution and progression of iron deficiency (ID), yet few studies have examined the underlying mechanisms. Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) is a metric that gauges the inflammatory potential of an overall diet. This study explores the association between DII and triglyceride glucose-body mass index (TyG-BMI) with ID in reproductive-age women. Methods This analysis utilized data from 2311 reproductive-age women in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) from 2005 to 2018. ID was identified using serum ferritin and transferrin receptor (TfR). The association between DII, TyG-BMI and ID was assessed using weighted logistic regression, linear regression and restricted cubic spline (RCS) models, with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis for diagnostic power. Mediation effects of TyG-BMI were further explored by causal mediation analysis. Results Among reproductive-age women, both DII and TyG-BMI were significantly positively associated with ID (DII: OR = 1.32, 95% CI 1.19, 1.48; TyG-BMI: OR = 1.13, 95% CI 1.02, 1.35). There is a close relationship between the DII index and TfR (β= 1.17, 95% CI 1.03, 1.13). RCS analysis indicated that the relationships were mostly linear (P-overall < 0.05, P-nonlinear > 0.05). Furthermore, TyG-BMI mediated 5.19%, 12.83%, and 5.63% of the associations between DII and ID, Ferritin, and transferrin receptor (TfR), respectively. Conclusion The findings suggest that targeted interventions to enhance dietary practices, nutritional intake, and overall metabolic well-being may result in substantial amelioration of ID among reproductive women.

Abstract
Glaucoma, a prevalent and potentially blinding eye disease, is linked to a variety of factors, including elevated intraocular pressure, optic nerve damage, and oxidative stress. In recent years, dietary habits, as a controllable lifestyle factor, have received increasing attention in the prevention and treatment of glaucoma. The purpose of this review was to investigate the effects of dietary factors on glaucoma, with a particular emphasis on two common dietary patterns: the high-salt diet and the Mediterranean diet. In addition, we investigated the association between many particular nutrients (including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, caffeine, and minerals) and glaucoma to fully assess the potential involvement of dietary variables in glaucoma pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment. This article reveals the importance of dietary components in glaucoma prevention and explores prospective possibilities for future research by conducting a comprehensive review of previous scientific studies.

Abstract
Although the expected benefits of the Mediterranean diet (MD) are comprehensive, its implementation is hampered by poor adherence. Several factors can affect adherence to MD guidelines. The current study aimed to explore sociodemographic and pregnancy-related determinants of MD adherence among Saudi women. A correlational cross-sectional research design was conducted on a snowball sample of 774 pregnant women from the Najran region, Saudi Arabia, using an online survey between February and May 2024. A self-administered questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic data, pregnancy-related characteristics, and the MD scale was used for data collection. The current study showed that only 32.2% of participants had high adherence to the MD, and 57.6% had moderate adherence. Regarding sociodemographic determinants of MD adherence, highly educated, older women with lower pre-pregnancy body mass index (BMI) and higher monthly income increased the probability of high adherence to the MD (p < 0.05). In addition, being physically active before or during pregnancy significantly increased the woman's probability of having higher adherence to the MD (p < 0.05). Concerning pregnancy-related determinants, having a planned pregnancy and regular antenatal care (ANC) increased the woman's probability of high adherence to the MD by nearly 1.3 times (p < 0.05). In addition, low adherence to the MD increases the risk of gestational diabetes. In conclusion, numerous sociodemographic and pregnancy-related determinacies can significantly affect a woman's adherence to the MD. Healthcare providers should address these determinants during the planning and implementation of pregnant women's nutritional counseling to make the counseling process woman-centered and more effective.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Maternal obesity influences pregnancy course in several different manners, and imbalanced nutrition during pregnancy may lead to various adverse pregnancy outcomes. Additionally, nutritional status during pregnancy may have implications for the health of the offspring and may possibly influence early motor development in children. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of excessive gestational weight gain (EGWG) on pregnancy outcomes and infant's motor development within the first twelve months of life. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study included 200 participants divided in two groups based on their gestational weight gain. Maternal, perinatal, and neonatal factors were analyzed, and early motor development was assessed using the Alberta infant motor scale (AIMS). RESULTS EGWG was significantly associated with: pre-pregnancy BMI (p < 0.001), family history for cardiovascular diseases (p = 0.013) and diabetes mellitus (p = 0.045), hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (p = 0.003), gestational diabetes mellitus (p < 0.001), gestational anemia (p = 0.001), vitamin D deficiency (p = 0.001), metformin use (p = 0.045), pre-labor premature rupture of membranes (p = 0.031), amniotic fluid index (p = 0.047), and APGAR score in the first five min of life (p = 0.007). Scored by AIMS, EGWG was significantly associated with parameters of early motor development at the age of three AIMS total (p < 0.001), six AIMS total (p < 0.001), nine AIMS total (p < 0.001), and twelve AIMS total (p < 0.001) months of infant's life. CONCLUSIONS The link between EGWG and adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes in offspring is a complex and multifaceted issue. Our results imply significant alterations in early motor development in the group of infants born from mothers who gained weight excessively during pregnancy. Further studies are needed to unravel the intricacies of this relationship and inform strategies for preventive interventions and supportive care during pregnancy and infancy.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: The Mediterranean diet (MD) has been recognized as a beneficial nutritional pattern that promotes human health, decreasing the risks of a variety of human disorders and pathological states, including adverse pregnancy outcomes. In this aspect, the current survey aimed to assess the potential association of compliance with the MD during gestation with various sociodemographic and anthropometric parameters, perinatal outcomes, and breastfeeding practices. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study performed on 5688 pregnant women from 10 distinctive Greek areas. Face-to-face interviews with qualified questionnaires and thorough retrievals of medical records were performed to collect data concerning the participants' sociodemographic and anthropometric parameters, perinatal outcomes, and breastfeeding practices. Results: Elevated compliance with the MD during pregnancy was independently related with older age, higher educational status, and better economic status as well as decreased incidences of pre-pregnancy overweight/obesity and excess gestational weight gain and a lower likelihood of gestational diabetes. Moreover, greater adherence to the MD was independently associated with an increased prevalence of delivering vaginally and a greater prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding for at least 16 weeks postpartum. Conclusions: A higher level of compliance with the MD for the period of gestation was associated with several favorable lifestyle factors that may promote maternal health. Further studies with a prospective design as well as studies exploring the potential effects of maternal compliance with the MD for the period of pregnancy on the health of children should be performed. Future studies should also be extended beyond the MD by assessing the potential beneficial effects of adopting a Mediterranean lifestyle on maternal and child health.
