Abstract
BACKGROUND Corrosion is a challenging and potentially harmful process that involves the continuing, impulsive deterioration of metallic structures via reactions involving environmental components and electro- or chemical processes. To inhibit corrosion, various additives are added. Traditional additives, on the other hand, contain environmentally hazardous substances. Surfactants are less expensive, easier to manufacture, and have high inhibitory efficacy and low toxicity compared to standard corrosion inhibitors. They are often employed as corrosion inhibitors to protect metallic materials against corrosion. METHODS Surfactant molecules' amphiphilic nature promotes adsorption at surfaces such as the metal/metal oxide-water interface. Surfactant adsorption on metals and metal oxides forms a barrier that can prevent corrosion. SIGNIFICANT FINDINGS This review of surfactants as corrosion inhibitors aims to offer a systemic evaluation of various surfactant physical and chemical properties, surfactant influence in corrosion inhibition, and surfactant used in corrosion inhibition that can be used to enhance the efficacy of surfactant use as corrosion inhibitors in a variety of environments. The effect of several parameters on the potential to suppress corrosion of surfactant molecule series is also discussed here.

Abstract
Corrosion prevention has been a global phenomenon, particularly in metallic and construction engineering. Most inhibitors are expensive and toxic. Therefore, developing nontoxic and cheap corrosion inhibitors has been a way forward. In this work, L-arginine was successfully grafted on chitosan by the thermal technique using a reflux condenser. This copolymer was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The corrosion inhibition performance of the composite polymer was tested on mild steel in 0.5M HCl by electrochemical methods. The potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) results were consistent. The inhibition efficiency at optimum concentration rose to 91.4%. The quantum chemical calculation parameters show good properties of the material as a corrosion inhibitor. The molecular structure of the inhibitor was subjected to density functional theory (DFT) to understand its theoretical properties, and the results confirmed the inhibition efficiency of the grafted polymer for corrosion prevention.

Abstract
Corrosion of steel-reinforced concrete exposed to marine environments could lead to structural catastrophic failure in service. Hence, the construction industry is seeking novel corrosion preventive methods that are effective, cheap, and non-toxic. In this regard, the inhibitive properties of sodium phosphate (Na3PO4) corrosion inhibitor have been investigated for carbon steel reinforcements in 0.6 M Cl- contaminated simulated concrete pore solution (SCPS). Different electrochemical testing has been utilized including potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and Mott-Schottky plots to test Na3PO4 at different concentrations: 0.05, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.6 M. It was found that Na3PO4 adsorbs on the surface through a combined physicochemical adsorption process, thus creating insoluble protective ferric phosphate film (FePO4) and achieving an inhibition efficiency (IE) up to 91.7%. The formation of FePO4 was elucidated by means of Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Quantum chemical parameters using density functional theory (DFT) were obtained to further understand the chemical interactions at the interface. It was found that PO43- ions have a low energy gap (ΔEgap), hence facilitating their adsorption. Additionally, Mulliken population analysis showed that the oxygen atoms present in PO43- are strong nucleophiles, thus acting as adsorption sites.

The reaction of NH-indazoles with formaldehyde
in aqueous hydrochloric acid has been experimentally studied by solution
and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and crystallography.
The mechanism of the formation of N1-CH2OH derivatives was determined. For the first time, 2-substituted
derivatives have been characterized by multinuclear NMR. Theoretically,
calculations with gauge-invariant atomic orbitals (GIAOs) at the Becke
three-parameter (exchange) Lee–Yang–Parr B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p)

Abstract
Corrosion of metals induces enormous loss of material performance and increase of cost, which has been a common and intractable issue that needs to be addressed urgently. Coating technology has been acknowledged to be the most economic and efficient approach to retard the metal corrosion. For several decades, polymers have been recognized as an effective anticorrosion coating material in both industries and scientific communities, as they demonstrate good barrier properties, ease of altering properties and massive production. Nanomaterials show distinctively different physical and chemical properties compared with their bulk counterparts, which have been considered as highly promising functional materials in various applications, impacting virtually all the fields of science and technologies. Recently, the introduction of nanomaterials with various properties into polymer matrix to form a polymer nanocomposite has been devoted to improve anticorrosive ability of polymer coatings. In this review article, we highlight the recent advances and synopsis of these high-performance polymer nanocomposites as anticorrosive coating materials. We expect that this work could be helpful for the researchers who are interested in the development of functional nanomaterials and advanced corrosion protection technology.

Synthesis of ZnO-NPs Using a Convolvulus arvensis Leaf Extract and Proving its Efficiency as an Inhibitor of Carbon Steel Corrosion. MATERIALS 2020; 13:ma13040890. Abstract
This paper studies the use of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) synthesized using an extract of Convolvulus arvensis leaf and expired ZnCl2, as efficient inhibitors of carbon steel corrosion in a 1 M HCl solution. The synthesized ZnO-NPs were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis spectroscopy analysis. The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 1 M HCl was also investigated through potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the determination of weight loss. The results show that the efficiency of the prevention increased when the concentration of ZnO-NPs was increased to 91%, and that the inhibition efficiency was still high (more than 89%) despite decreasing at high temperatures, acting as a mixed-type inhibitor. A sample of carbon steel with a protective layer of inhibitor on top was observed during immersion in 1 M HCl for 20 h; an increase in the charge transfer resistance (Rct) and stability of the inhibitor could be observed after 6 h. Adsorption isotherm models demonstrated that the inhibitor adsorption mechanism on the carbon steel surface followed Langmuir rather than Freundlich and Temkin behaviors. The thermodynamic parameters showed that the adsorption process is one of mixed, spontaneous, and exothermic adsorption. The results illustrate that the ZnO-NPs were a strong inhibitor of carbon steel corrosion in acid medium. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed that the ZnO-NPs formed a good protective film on the carbon steel surface.

Abstract
Background Benzimidazole, a key heterocycle in therapeutic chemistry, and its derivatives, are recently mentioned in the literature as corrosion inhibitors for steels (CS, MS), pure metals (Fe, Al, Cu, Zn) and alloys. Benzimidazoles are good corrosion inhibitors for extremely aggressive, corrosive acidic media such as 1 M HCl, 1 M HNO3, 1.5 M H2SO4, basic media, 0.1 M NaOH or salt solutions. Benzimidazole derivatives act as mixed type inhibitors, exhibiting stronger inhibitive effect on the cathodic reaction than on the anodic one. Conclusion These review highlights recent research in the field of benzimidazole compounds that their role as corrosion inhibitors, the structure of the compounds, electrochemical studies, the experimental conditions, the proposed mechanisms as well as the quantum theoretical studies that predict the structure of the compounds with inhibition properties.![]()
