Abstract
Interest in soil health and biodiversity conservation has become increasingly important. Consequently, studies comparing the chemical and biological characteristics of organic and traditional paddy soils have been increasing. Soil microorganisms are essential in nutrient cycling; however, their diversity is challenging to ascertain because of their environmental sensitivity and complex interactions. Particularly, in domestic rice cultivation, the soil undergoes multiple irrigation and drainage processes during crop growth, providing a diverse ecological environment for soil microorganisms. The objective of this study is to compare the microbial community and diversity between paddy soils in two agricultural systems. We selected organic and conventional paddy fields in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, and collected monthly samples from August to November 2022 for analysis. Bacteria and fungi were amplified from the 16S rRNA V3V4 region, ITS 3-4 region respectively, For the comparison of microbial diversity, Alpha diversity indices (Chao1, Shannon, Gini-Simpson indices) were analyzed. The results indicated genus-level differences in microbial communities, with the genera Mucor and Sirastachys exclusively present in organic paddy soils, while the genus Ustilaginoidea was exclusively found in conventional paddy soils. Among them, Ustilaginoidea is reported to be a fungus causing false smut disease, causing damage to crop growth and quality. Additionally, the comparison of microbial diversity between the two farming showed no significant differences (p>0.05). In conclusion, When the microbial communities present in both farming systems were examined, organic farming appeared to be more advantageous than conventional farming regarding crop disease and health. This study provides essential soil chemical and microbiological data for understanding the fundamental characteristics of paddy soils in South Korea.

Abstract
Mesopelagic water from the deep Eastern Mediterranean Sea (EMS) was collected under disrupted (REPRESS) or undisturbed (HP) pressure conditions and was acclimated to oil (OIL) or dispersed-oil (DISPOIL) under in situ pressure and temperature (10 MPa, 14 °C). Decompression resulted in oil-acclimatised microbial communities of lower diversity despite the restoration of in situ pressure conditions during the 1-week incubation. Further biodiversity loss was observed when oil-acclimatised communities were transferred to ONR7 medium to facilitate the isolation of oil-degrading bacteria. Microbial diversity loss impacted the degradation of recalcitrant oil compounds, especially PAHs, as low-abundance taxa, linked with PAH degradation, were outcompeted in the enrichment process. Thalassomonas, Pseudoalteromonas, Halomonas and Alcanivorax were enriched in ONR7 under all experimental conditions. No effect of dispersant application on the microbial community structure was identified. A. venustensis was isolated under all tested conditions suggesting a potential key role of this species in hydrocarbons removal in the deep EMS.

Abstract
Introduction Interspecies interactions are a crucial driving force of species evolution. The genes of each coexisting species play a pivotal role in shaping the structure and function within the community, but how to identify them at the genome-wide level has always been challenging. Methods In this study, we embed the Lotka-Volterra ordinary differential equations in the theory of community ecology into the systems mapping model, so that this model can not only describe how the quantitative trait loci (QTL) of a species directly affects its own phenotype, but also describe the QTL of the species how to indirectly affect the phenotype of its interacting species, and how QTL from different species affects community behavior through epistatic interactions. Results By designing and implementing a co-culture experiment for 100 pairs of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), we mapped 244 significant QTL combinations in the interaction process of the two bacteria using this model, including 69 QTLs from E. coli and 59 QTLs from S. aureus, respectively. Through gene annotation, we obtained 57 genes in E. coli, among which the genes with higher frequency were ypdC, nrfC, yphH, acrE, dcuS, rpnE, and ptsA, while we obtained 43 genes in S. aureus, among which the genes with higher frequency were ebh, SAOUHSC_00172, capF, gdpP, orfX, bsaA, and phnE1. Discussion By dividing the overall growth into independent growth and interactive growth, we could estimate how QTLs modulate interspecific competition and cooperation. Based on the quantitative genetic model, we can obtain the direct genetic effect, indirect genetic effect, and genome-genome epistatic effect related to interspecific interaction genes, and then further mine the hub genes in the QTL networks, which will be particularly useful for inferring and predicting the genetic mechanisms of community dynamics and evolution. Systems mapping can provide a tool for studying the mechanism of competition and cooperation among bacteria in co-culture, and this framework can lay the foundation for a more comprehensive and systematic study of species interactions.

Abstract
Microbial community in natural or artificial environments playes critical roles in substance cycles, products synthesis and species evolution. Although microbial community structures have been revealed via culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches, the hidden forces driving the microbial community are rarely systematically discussed. As a mode of cell-to-cell communication that modifies microbial interactions, quorum sensing can regulate biofilm formation, public goods secretion, and antimicrobial substances synthesis, directly or indirectly influencing microbial community to adapt to the changing environment. Therefore, the current review focuses on microbial community in the different habitats from the quorum sensing perspective. Firstly, the definition and classification of quorum sensing were simply introduced. Subsequently, the relationships between quorum sensing and microbial interactions were deeply explored. The latest progressives regarding the applications of quorum sensing in wastewater treatment, human health, food fermentation, and synthetic biology were summarized in detail. Finally, the bottlenecks and outlooks of quorum sensing driving microbial community were adequately discussed. To our knowledge, this current review is the first to reveal the driving force of microbial community from the quorum sensing perspective. Hopefully, this review provides a theoretical basis for developing effective and convenient approaches to control the microbial community with quorum sensing approaches.

Abstract
The first-cured tobacco contains macromolecular substances with negative impacts on tobacco products quality, and must be aged and fermented to mitigate their effects on the tobacco products quality. However, the natural fermentation takes a longer cycle with large coverage area and low economic efficiency. Microbial fermentation is a method to improve tobacco quality. The change of chemical composition of tobacco during the fermentation is often correlated with shapes of tobacco. This study aimed to investigate the effects of tobacco microorganisms on the quality of different shapes of tobacco. Specifically, Bacillus subtilis B1 and Cytobacillus oceanisediminis C4 with high protease, amylase, and cellulase were isolated from the first-cured tobacco, followed by using them for solid-state fermentation of tobacco powder (TP) and tobacco leaves (TL). Results showed that strains B1 and C4 could significantly improve the sensory quality of TP, enabling it to outperform TL in overall texture and skeleton of tobacco products during cigarette smoking. Compared with the control, microbial fermentation could increase reducing sugar; regulate protein, starch, and cellulose, reduce nicotine, improve total aroma substances, and enable the surface of fermented TP and TL to be more loose, wrinkled, and porous. Microbial community analysis indicated that strains B1 and C4 could change the native structure of microbial community in TP and TL. LEfSe analysis revealed that the potential key biomarkers in TP and TL were Bacilli, Pseudonocardia, Pantoea, and Jeotgalicoccus, which may have cooperative effects with other microbial taxa in improving tobacco quality. This study provides a theoretical basis for improving tobacco fermentation process for better cigarettes quality.

The Diversity of Deep-Sea Actinobacteria and Their Natural Products: An Epitome of Curiosity and Drug Discovery. DIVERSITY 2022. Abstract
Bioprospecting of novel antibiotics has been the conventional norm of research fostered by researchers worldwide to combat drug resistance. With the exhaustion of incessant leads, the search for new chemical entities moves into uncharted territories such as the deep sea. The deep sea is a furthermost ecosystem with much untapped biodiversity thriving under extreme conditions. Accordingly, it also encompasses a vast pool of ancient natural products. Actinobacteria are frequently regarded as the bacteria of research interest due to their inherent antibiotic-producing capabilities. These interesting groups of bacteria occupy diverse ecological habitats including a multitude of different deep-sea habitats. In this review, we provide a recent update on the novel species and compounds of actinomycetes from the deep-sea environments within a period of 2016–2022. Within this period, a total of 24 new species of actinomycetes were discovered and characterized as well as 101 new compounds of various biological activities. The microbial communities of various deep-sea ecosystems are the emerging frontiers of bioprospecting.

Abstract
Metabolic activity of the microbial community greatly affects the quality of cigar tobacco leaves (CTLs). To improve the quality of CTLs, two extrinsic microbes (Acinetobacter sp. 1H8 and Acinetobacter indicus 3B2) were inoculated into CTLs. The quality of CTLs were significantly improved after fermentation. The content of solanone, 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, benzeneacetic acid, ethyl ester, cyclohexanone, octanal, acetophenone, and 3,5,5-trimethyl-2-cyclohexen-1-one were significantly increased after inoculated Acinetobacter sp. 1H8. The inoculation of Acinetobacter sp. 1H8 enhanced the normal evolutionary trend of bacterial community. The content of trimethyl-pyrazine, 2,6-dimethyl-pyrazine, and megastigmatrienone were significantly increased after inoculated Acinetobacter indicus 3B2. The inoculation of Acinetobacter indicus 3B2 completely changed the original bacterial community. Network analysis revealed that Acinetobacter was negatively correlated with Aquabacterium, positively correlated with Bacillus, and had significant correlations with many volatile flavor compounds. This work may be helpful for improving fermentation product quality by regulating microbial community, and gain insight into the microbial ecosystem.
