Recent advancement in the synthesis of isothiocyanates

Isothiocyanates exhibit various biological characteristics, including antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties. Their significance extends to synthetic chemistry, where they serve as valuable platforms for versatile transformations. Consequently, they have attracted the attention of biologists and chemists. This review summarizes recent advancements in the synthesis of isothiocyanates. Access to a variety of starting materials is important to prepare isothiocyanates with diverse structures. This review categorizes synthetic methods into three types based on the starting materials and functional groups: (i) type A, derived from primary amines; (ii) type B, derived from other nitrogen functional groups; and (iii) type C, derived from non-nitrogen groups. Recent trends in synthetic methods have revealed the prevalence of type-A reactions derived from primary amines. However, type B reactions have rarely been reported. Notably, over the past four years, there has been a notable increase in type C reactions, indicating a growing interest in non-nitrogen-derived isothiocyanates. Overall, this review not only outlines the advancements in the synthesis of isothiocyanates but also highlights trends in the methodology.

Ball Milling Promoted N-Heterocycles Synthesis

In the last years, numerous protocols have been published using ball milling for organic synthesis. Compared to other methods such as microwave or ultrasound irradiation and ionic liquids, ball mill chemistry is an economical, and ecofriendly method in organic synthesis that is rather underrepresented in the knowledge of organic chemists. The aim of this review is to explore the advantages of the application of ball milling in synthesis of N-heterocyclic compounds.

Interactions between tetrahydroisoindoline-1,3-dione derivatives and human serum albumin via multiple spectroscopy techniques

Some tetrahydroisoindoline-1,3-dione derivatives (TDDs) possess potent herbicidal activity. To assess possible impacts of TDDs on humans, the interactions between TDDs and human serum albumin (HSA) were evaluated with steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopy, synchronous fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy, and circular dichroism spectroscopy. The thermodynamic data obtained at temperatures of 298, 307, and 316 K indicate that TDDs spontaneously bind to HSA and thus form a TDD-HSA complex. The conformation and secondary structure of HSA are changed, and the intrinsic fluorescence of HSA is statically quenched by TDDs. Moreover, the TDD-HSA complex is formed primarily through electrostatic interactions and has only one binding site on HSA. A competitive ligand-binding assay revealed that site II (subdomain IIIA) displays the greatest affinity for TDDs. In addition, an acute toxicity bioassay showed no zebrafish mortality upon exposure to 4000 μg L^-1 of TDDs. This work is helpful for understanding interactions between TDDs and HSA.
