Abstract
Apoptosis repressor with caspase recruitment domain (ARC) is a highly potent and multifunctional suppressor of various types of programmed cell death (PCD) (e.g. apoptosis, necroptosis, and pyroptosis) and plays a key role in determining cell fate. Under physiological conditions, ARC is predominantly expressed in terminally differentiated cells, such as cardiomyocytes and skeletal muscle cells. Its expression and activity are tightly controlled by a complicated system consisting of transcription factor (TF), non-coding RNA (ncRNA), and post-translational modification (PTM). ARC dysregulation has been shown to be closely associated with many chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disease. However, the detailed mechanisms of ARC involved in the progression of these diseases remain unclear to a large extent. In this review, we mainly focus on the regulatory mechanisms of ARC expression and activity and its role in PCD. We also discuss the underlying mechanisms of ARC in health and disease and highlight the potential implications of ARC in the clinical treatment of patients with chronic diseases. This information may assist in developing ARC-based therapeutic strategies for patients with chronic diseases and expand researchers' understanding of ARC.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE In recent years, Chinese herbal medicine has gained more and more recognition in disease prevention and control due to its low toxicity and comprehensive treatment. C. morifolium (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.), as the medicine food homology plant with the bioactivity of anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotection and cardiovascular protection, has important therapeutic effects and health benefits for colds, inflammation, cardiovascular diseases and various chronic diseases. AIM OF THE STUDY By reviewing the historical development, classification and distribution of germplasm resources, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and modern application of C. morifolium, the paper provides a reliable basis for the further research and application of chrysanthemum as therapeutic agents and functional additives. MATERIALS AND METHODS The literature and information about C. morifolium published in the last ten years were collected from various platforms, including Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science and China Knowledge Network. RESULTS A comprehensive analysis confirmed that C. morifolium originated in China, and it went through the development process from food and tea to medicine for more than 3000 years. During this period, different cultivars emerged through several breeding techniques and were distributed throughout the world. Moreover, A variety of chemical components such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, volatile oils, and terpenes in chrysanthemum have been proven they possess various pharmacology of anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and prevention of chronic diseases by regulating inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress responses and signaling pathways, which are the essential conditions to play a role in TCM, nutraceuticals and diet. CONCLUSION This paper provides a comprehensive review of historical development, classification, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and modern application of C. morifolium. However, future studies should continue to focus on the bioactive compounds and the synergistic mechanism of the "multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway" of chrysanthemum, and it is necessary to develop more innovative products with therapeutic effects.

Abstract
Myocardial fibrosis is a pathological, physiological change that results from alterations, such as inflammation and metabolic dysfunction, after myocardial infarction (MI). Excessive fibrosis can cause cardiac dysfunction, ventricular remodeling, and heart failure. Caffeic acid (CA), a natural polyphenolic acid in various foods, has cardioprotective effects. This study aimed to explore whether CA exerts a cardioprotective effect to inhibit myocardial fibrosis post-MI and elucidate the underlying mechanisms. Histological observations indicated that CA ameliorated ventricular remodeling induced by left anterior descending coronary artery ligation in MI mice and partially restored cardiac function. CA selectively targeted transforming growth factor-β receptor 1 (TGFBR1) and inhibited TGFBR1-Smad2/3 signaling, reducing collagen deposition in the infarcted area of MI mice hearts. Furthermore, cell counting (CCK-8) assay, 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine assay, and western blotting revealed that CA dose-dependently decreased the proliferation, collagen synthesis, and activation of the TGFBR1-Smad2/3 pathway in primary cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) stimulated by TGF-β1 in vitro. Notably, TGFBR1 overexpression in CFs partially counteracted the inhibitory effects of CA. These findings suggest that CA effectively mitigates myocardial fibrosis and enhances cardiac function following MI and that this effect may be associated with the direct targeting of TGFBR1 by CA.

Abstract
The prevalence of chronic diseases is currently a major public health issue worldwide and is exploding with the population growth and aging. Dietary patterns are well known to play a important role in our overall health and well-being, and therefore, poor diet and malnutrition are among the most critical risk factors for chronic disease. Thus, dietary recommendation and nutritional supplementation have significant clinical implications for the targeted treatment of some of these diseases. Multiple dietary patterns have been proposed to prevent chronic disease incidence, like Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) and Diabetes Risk Reduction Diet (DRRD). Among them, the MedDiet, which is one of the most well-known and studied dietary patterns in the world, has been related to a wide extent of health benefits. Substantial evidence has supported an important reverse association between higher compliance to MedDiet and the risk of chronic disease. Innovative strategies within the healthcare framework of predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (PPPM/3PM) view personalized dietary customization as a predictive medical approach, cost-effective preventive measures, and the optimal dietary treatment tailored to the characteristics of patients with chronic diseases in primary and secondary care. Through a comprehensive collection and review of available evidence, this review summarizes health benefits of MedDiet in the context of PPPM/3PM for chronic diseases, including cardiovascular disease, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, and cancer, thereby a working hypothesis that MedDiet can personalize the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases was derived.

Abstract
Objectives This study seeks to investigate the willingness of medical professionals to embrace training in sports medicine integrated talents, as well as the factors that influence their decision-making process. By utilizing technology acceptance models, the objective is to gain a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon and provide valuable recommendations to facilitate the development of proficient integration of sports and medicine (ISM) talents. Methods The questionnaire was developed through a comprehensive review of relevant literature and consultation with experts in the field. A cluster sampling method was employed to select medical professionals from various medical institutions in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (Guangxi) who had participated in ISM talent training. The collected data were analyzed using the AMOS structural equation model, ensuring a rigorous and systematic approach to data analysis. Results A total of 403 questionnaires were collected in this survey, and 8 out of the 9 research hypotheses formulated for the model variables were found to be supported. Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, subjective norm and training satisfaction were identified as significant factors influencing the behavioral intention of medical professionals to engage in ISM talent training (P < 0.05). The path coefficients for these factors were 0.17, 0.16, 0.31 and 0.24, respectively. Conclusion In order to enhance the effectiveness of training for ISM talents, it is imperative for relevant departments to collaborate and focus on improving the perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and training satisfaction. By doing so, we can effectively harness the subjective initiative of medical professionals, thereby increasing their willingness to participate in training programs. This, in turn, will contribute to the cultivation of "high-quality, high-level" ISM talents that are essential for the betterment of society.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence on the association between following healthy eating and the severity of pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is scarce. Therefore, the aim of this cross-sectional study aimed to investigate the relationship between adherence to the alternative healthy eating index (AHEI) and the severity of Pemphigus vulgaris disease in adults. METHODS In this hospital-based cross-sectional study, a total of 138 pemphigus vulgaris cases were studied, of which 108 had pemphigus disease area index (PDAI) ≤15, and 30 had PDAI>15. Dietary intakes were assessed using a valid 168-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). To calculate the AHEI, the data received from the diet were used. The subjects of this index received a score of 1-10. The final AHEI was calculated by summing the component scores. RESULTS After adjusting for age and sex, we found that individuals with the highest AHEI score were 72% less likely to have increased PV severity compared with those with the lowest score (OR: 0.28; 95% CI: 0.08-0.92, P trend = 0.020). Further control for another potential confounder, intake energy, made the association stronger (OR: 0.24; 95% CI: 0.06-0.88, P trend = 0.017). Also, after controlling the body mass index (BMI) confounding factor, it maintained its strong relationship (OR: 0.24; 95% CI: 0.06-0.88, P trend = 0.016). CONCLUSION The evidence of our study shows that following the healthy eating index is associated with a reduction in the severity of pemphigus vulgaris. Prospective cohort studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract
With the advantages of convenient, painless and non-invasive collection, saliva holds great promise as a valuable biomarker source for cancer detection, pathological assessment and therapeutic monitoring. Salivary glycopatterns have shown significant potential for cancer screening in recent years. However, the understanding of benign lesions at non-cancerous sites in cancer diagnosis has been overlooked. Clarifying the influence of benign lesions on salivary glycopatterns and cancer screening is crucial for advancing the development of salivary glycopattern-based diagnostics. In this study, 2885 samples were analyzed using lectin microarrays to identify variations in salivary glycopatterns according to the number, location, and type of lesions. By utilizing our previously published data of tumor-associated salivary glycopatterns, the performance of machine learning algorithm for cancer screening was investigated to evaluate the effect of adding benign disease cases to the control group. The results demonstrated that both the location and number of lesions had discernible effects on salivary glycopatterns. And it was also revealed that incorporating a broad range of benign diseases into the controls improved the classifier's performance in distinguishing cancer cases from controls. This finding holds guiding significance for enhancing salivary glycopattern-based cancer screening and facilitates their practical implementation in clinical settings.

Abstract
Lipid metabolism plays crucial roles in cellular processes such as hormone synthesis, energy production, and fat storage. Older adults are at risk of the dysregulation of lipid metabolism, which is associated with progressive declines in the physiological function of various organs. With advancing age, digestion and absorption commonly change, thereby resulting in decreased nutrient uptake. However, in the elderly population, the accumulation of excess fat becomes more pronounced due to a decline in the body's capacity to utilize lipids effectively. This is characterized by enhanced adipocyte synthesis and reduced breakdown, along with diminished peripheral tissue utilization capacity. Excessive lipid accumulation in the body, which manifests as hyperlipidemia and accumulated visceral fat, is linked to several chronic lipid-related diseases, including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. This review provides a summary of the altered lipid metabolism during aging, including lipid digestion, absorption, anabolism, and catabolism, as well as their associations with age-related chronic diseases, which aids in developing nutritional interventions for older adults to prevent or alleviate age-related chronic diseases.

Abstract
Precision nutrition involves several data collection methods and tools that aim to better inform nutritional recommendations and improve dietary intake, nutritional status, and health outcomes. While the benefits of collecting precise data and designing well-informed interventions are vast, it is presently unclear whether precision nutrition is a relevant approach for tackling nutrition challenges facing populations in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), considering infrastructure, affordability, and accessibility of approaches. The Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley (SFNV) Precision Nutrition for LMIC project working group assessed the relevance of precision nutrition for LMIC by first conducting an expert opinion survey and then hosting a workshop with nutrition leaders who live or work in LMIC. The experts were interviewed to discuss four topics: nutritional problems, current solutions, precision nutrition, and collaboration. Furthermore, the SFNV Precision Nutrition for LMIC Virtual Workshop gathered a wider group of nutrition leaders to further discuss precision nutrition relevance and opportunities. Our study revealed that precision public health nutrition, which has a clear focus on the stratification of at-risk groups, may offer relevant support for nutrition and health issues in LMIC. However, funding, affordability, resources, awareness, training, suitable tools, and safety are essential prerequisites for implementation and to equitably address nutrition challenges in low-resource communities.

Abstract
Cadmium (Cd) is a well-known environmental pollutant with high toxicity. Despite a variety of studies have demonstrated that Cd exposure induces multiple organ damages in humans, there is still a lack of knowledge of Cd induced skeletal muscle impairment. Exercise is a non-invasive, effective intervention to improve human health and combat diseases. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the toxic effects of Cd exposure on skeletal muscle function and explore the possibility of exercise for attenuating skeletal muscle toxicity of chronic Cd exposure. C57BL/6J mice were exposed to Cd via drinking water containing CdCl2 10 mg/dL for 8 weeks while a moderate exercise was daily induced by a motorized treadmill to mice. It was found that Cd exposure significantly reduced the ratio of gastrocnemius and body weight, decreased mouse exercise capacity, weakened muscle strength, promoted lipid accumulation and up-regulated pro-apoptotic genes in the skeletal muscle. Non-targeted lipidomics analysis indicated that Cd exposure disturbed lipid metabolism, altered lipid signatures and elevated pro-inflammatory lipid species in the skeletal muscle. Moreover, Cd exposure evoked an intense inflammatory response in the skeletal muscle by up-regulating pro-inflammatory cytokine production such as Eotaxin (CCL11), TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, RANTES (CCL5) and so on. Notably, treadmill exercise effectively protected against Cd induced skeletal muscle impairment indicated by the effects of inhibiting lipid metabolism disturbance, suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokine production and preserving skeletal muscle function. These results demonstrated that environment relevant Cd exposure impairs skeletal muscle function and exercise effectively antagonizes the Cd toxicity in the skeletal muscle and preserves skeletal muscle function. This study provided the novel evidence for unraveling Cd toxicity on the skeletal muscle function and highlighted the possibility of considering exercise as a countermeasure for Cd induced skeletal muscle impairment at population level.

Abstract
Pyroptosis is a programmed cell death mode discovered in recent years. It is caused by inflammasomes and the perforation of Gasdermin family proteins, and results in the release of inflammatory factors and triggering of an inflammatory cascade response. The pathways of pyroptosis include the caspase-1-dependent canonical pathway, the caspase-4/5/11-dependent non-canonical pathway, other caspase-dependent pathways and caspase-independent pathways. Its morphological features are different from other programmed cell death modes (apoptosis, autophagy, etc.). Pyroptosis can be observed microscopically that abundant pores are formed in the cell membrane, resulting in cell swelling and rupture, and eventually leading to the outflow of cellular contents. In addition to causing tissue damage and dysfunction through inflammation, pyroptosis can also become a potential cancer treatment strategy by reducing drug resistance in cancer cells. However, many details are still unclear on the molecular mechanisms of its role in pathogenicity and therapeutics, and therefore lots of work needs to be done. This article reviews the morphological characteristics, pathogenic and therapeutic mechanisms of pyroptosis and its related research progress in inflammatory diseases and cancers. It helps to further understand the mechanism of pyroptosis and provide new ideas for the research and prevention of inflammatory diseases and cancers.

Abstract
Infections caused by multidrug-resistant bacteria carrying antibiotic resistance genes pose a severe threat to global public health and human health. In clinical practice, it has been found that human gut microbiota act as a “reservoir” of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) since gut microbiota contain a wide variety of ARGs, and that the structure of the gut microbiome is influenced by the profile of the drug resistance genes present. In addition, ARGs can spread within and between species of the gut microbiome in multiple ways. To better understand gut microbiota ARGs and their effects on patients with chronic diseases, this article reviews the generation of ARGs, common vectors that transmit ARGs, the characteristics of gut microbiota ARGs in common chronic diseases, their impact on prognosis, the current state of treatment for ARGs, and what should be addressed in future research.

Abstract
The aim of the study was to determine the differences in resilience, psychological well-being and coping strategies between patients with HIV and diabetics. The sample included a total of 400 subjects (199 patients with HIV and 201 subjects with diabetes). The instruments applied for data collection were a sociodemographic data questionnaire, the Resilience Scale (Wagnild and Young), the Ryff Psychological Well-being Scale and the Coping Strategies Questionnaire (Sandín and Chorot). The data collection period was approximately 2 years (between February 2018 and January 2020). Based on the results of our work it was found that the subjects with HIV had lower scores than the diabetic subjects in all the resilience factors, except for the factor "feeling good alone". In addition, the subjects with HIV scored significantly lower than the diabetic subjects on all the variables of psychological well-being. Subjects with HIV used problem-solving coping, social support seeking, positive reappraisal, religious coping and avoidance coping with less frequency than diabetic subjects. However, they used more negative auto-focused coping compared to diabetic subjects. Therefore, subjects with HIV show a different psychological pattern in relation to resilience, psychological well-being and use of coping strategies compared to diabetic subjects.

Abstract
Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a condition defining the damage of the spinal cord that leads to musculoskeletal sequelae, including volumetric muscle loss (VML) in a significant proportion of patients. VML occurring after SCI is responsible for delayed recovery, with detrimental consequences in terms of functional outcomes and additional alterations of the muscle tissue. The treatment of muscle alterations in these patients usually relies on nutritional supplementation. However, rehabilitation therapy has a well-recognized role in improving muscle mass and function, even in subjects affected by SCI. Furthermore, novel medical therapies have been recently investigated, with positive results. In this scoping review, we portray the state-of-the-art treatment of muscle modifications after SCI, focusing on the multidisciplinary and multidimensional management of these patients.
