Abstract
BACKGROUND This review aims to assess the effect of oral administration of probiotics and/or prebiotics in children and women of reproductive age (WRA) to improve intestinal iron absorption, hemoglobin, and ferritin levels. METHODS Randomized controlled trials from published literature on probiotics and or prebiotics for prevention or treatment of anemia as a supplement or fortification in children or WRA till Jan 31, 2023, were included. Studies on probiotics and prebiotics in patients with anemia due to other causes were excluded. Screening and data extraction was done using Distiller SR and meta-analysis was performed using Revman 5.4.1. RESULTS A total of 1925 records were identified from Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane, of which 29 were included in the systematic review (14 supplementation and 15 fortification studies; 15 studies in children and 14 studies in WRA). The major interventions included galacto-oligosaccharide, inulin, heat-killed H61, Lactobacillus plantarum 299v, Lactobacillus reuteri, Lactobacillus acidophilus. Meta-analysis of 5 studies in WRA showed that the use of prebiotics and/or probiotics with or without iron was associated with little or no effect on hemoglobin. However, there is low certainty of evidence that the intervention led to improvement in fractional absorption of iron as compared to placebo or iron [8 studies, n = 335, mean increase 0.74%, 95%CI-0.11-1.38, p = 0.02]. Meta-analysis of 6 studies in WRA using prebiotics and/or probiotics with or without iron led to a significant increase in ferritin levels in WRA (mean increase 2.45 ng/ml, 95% CI 0.61-4.3, p = 0.009, n = 320) [Moderate certainty of evidence]. In children, meta-analysis of up to 8 studies did not result in any significant change in hemoglobin, ferritin and fractional iron absorption [low or very low certainty of evidence]. CONCLUSION There is some evidence to show that the use of prebiotics or probiotics (especially Lp299v and GOS) with or without oral iron can improve iron absorption in women and lead to improvement in ferritin levels in women. However, the current evidence does not conclusively show the benefit of these interventions in improving hemoglobin levels in women and children.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Diarrhea is one of the most common complications among patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Alongside common medical products for managing diarrhea, attention has been directed toward natural approaches, such as the use of probiotics or synbiotics supplements. The purpose of this review is to evaluate the effectiveness of probiotics or synbiotics in the prevention and treatment of diarrhea, mortality, and length of ICU stay. METHODS In adherence to the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA) statement, a systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted. Relevant articles were identified by searching PubMed, SpringerLink, and ScienceDirect databases. Quality assessment was done using Cochrane Collaboration's tool for randomized-controlled trials (ROB2). RESULTS 6305 articles were identified, of which 14 papers were included. Probiotics reduced the risk of diarrhea by 10 %; however, the result was not statistically significant [Risk Ratio (RR) = 0.90; 95 % Confidence Interval (CI): 0.77 to 1.05; P = 0.16; I2 = 29 %; 13 studies]. No statistical significance was found among studies regarding reducing the duration of diarrhea, with considerable heterogeneity [RR = - 0.53; 95 % CI: -1.46 to 0.41; P = 0.27; I2 = 71 %, 5 studies]. Neither the length of ICU stays nor the mortality rate was affected by the use of probiotics or synbiotics. CONCLUSION Probiotics or synbiotics appear to slightly reduce the incidence of diarrhea among ICU patients. However, this effect is considered statistically significant only after conducting sensitivity and subgroup analyses. Further high-quality clinical trials are required to evaluate the potential of probiotics or synbiotics in the treatment of diarrhea among critically ill patients.

Abstract
Background: Depression often coexists with anemia, potentially sharing common pathways, highlighting the need for treatments addressing both conditions simultaneously. This study evaluated the effect of probiotics on red blood cell (RBC) parameters in adults with depressive disorder. We hypothesized that probiotics would positively influence RBC parameters, potentially modulated by baseline inflammation or dietary intake, with improved RBC function correlating with better antidepressant outcomes. Methods: This secondary analysis of a two-arm, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial involved 116 adults with depressive disorder. Participants received a probiotic formulation containing Lactobacillus helveticus Rosell®-52 and Bifidobacterium longum Rosell®-175 or a placebo for 60 days. Data from 97 subjects were analyzed for RBC parameters, including hemoglobin (HGB), RBC count, hematocrit (HCT), mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean hemoglobin concentration (MCH), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC), and RBC distribution width (RDW). Results: Probiotic supplementation did not result in significant changes in RBC parameters compared to the placebo. However, probiotics may help stabilize HGB, HCT, MCH, and MCHC levels, potentially preventing fluctuations observed in the placebo group. Conclusions: While probiotics showed potential benefits for depressive symptoms, significant changes in RBC parameters were not observed. Larger studies are needed to clarify the mechanisms and clinical implications.

Abstract
By disturbing the prooxidant-antioxidant balance in the cell, a condition called oxidative stress is created, causing severe damage to the nucleic acid, protein, and lipid of the host cell, and as a result, endangers the viability of the host cell. A relationship between oxidative stress and several different diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and obesity has been reported. Therefore, maintaining this prooxidant-antioxidant balance is vital for the cell. Probiotics as one of the potent antioxidants have recently received attention. Many health-promoting and beneficial effects of probiotics are known, and it has been found that the consumption of certain strains of probiotics alone or in combination with food exerts antioxidant efficacy and reduces oxidative damage. Studies have reported that certain probiotic strains implement their antioxidant effects by producing metabolites and antioxidant enzymes, increasing the antioxidant capacity, and reducing host oxidant metabolites. Therefore, we aimed to review and summarize the latest anti-oxidative activity of probiotics and its efficacy in aging, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and obesity.

Abstract
Decades of research have made clear that host-associated microbiomes touch all facets of health. However, effective therapies that target the microbiome have been elusive given its inherent complexity. Here, we experimentally examined diet-microbe-host interactions through a complex systems framework, centered on dietary oxalate. Using multiple, independent molecular, animal, and in vitro experimental models, we found that microbiome composition influenced multiple oxalate-microbe-host interfaces. Importantly, administration of the oxalate-degrading specialist, Oxalobacter formigenes, was only effective against a poor oxalate-degrading microbiota background and gives critical new insights into why clinical intervention trials with this species exhibit variable outcomes. Data suggest that, while heterogeneity in the microbiome impacts multiple diet-host-microbe interfaces, metabolic redundancy among diverse microorganisms in specific diet-microbe axes is a critical variable that may impact the efficacy of bacteriotherapies, which can help guide patient and probiotic selection criteria in probiotic clinical trials.

Abstract
Background: Members of the Bifidobacterium genus and lactobacilli are the most commonly used probiotics to promote human health. In this context, genome-based in silico analyses have been demonstrated as a fast and reliable tool for identifying and characterizing health-promoting activities imputed to probiotics. Methods: This study is an extension of the Integrated Probiotic Database (IPDB) previously created on probiotics of the genus Bifidobacterium, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the genetic characteristics that contribute to the diverse spectrum of beneficial effects of probiotics. The strains integrated into this new version of the IPDB, such as various lactobacilli and strains belonging to the species Streptococcus thermophilus (S. thermophilus) and Heyndrickxia coagulans (H. coagulans) (formerly Bacillus coagulans), were selected based on the labels of probiotic formulations currently on the market and using the bacterial strains whose genome had already been sequenced. On these bacterial strains, comparative genome analyses were performed, mainly focusing on genetic factors that confer structural, functional, and chemical characteristics predicted to be involved in microbe-host and microbe-microbe interactions. Results: Our investigations revealed marked inter- and intra-species variations in the genetic makeup associated with the biosynthesis of external structures and bioactive metabolites putatively associated with microbe- and host-microbe interactions. Conclusion: Although genetic differences need to be confirmed as functional or phenotypic differences before any probiotic intervention, we believe that considering these divergences will aid in improving effective and personalized probiotic-based interventions.

Abstract
The microbiota plays a crucial role in maintaining the host's intestinal homeostasis, influencing numerous physiological functions. Various factors, including diet, stress, and antibiotic use, can lead to such imbalances. Probiotics have been shown to restore the microbiota, contributing to maintaining this balance. For instance, the weaning stage in piglets is crucial; this transition can cause unfavorable changes that may contribute to the onset of diarrhea. Probiotic supplementation has increased due to its benefits. However, its mechanism of action is still controversial; one involves the regulation of intestinal immunity. When recognized by immune system cells through membrane receptors, probiotics activate intracellular signaling pathways that lead to changes in gene expression, resulting in an anti-inflammatory response. This complex regulatory system involves transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms, including the modulation of various molecules, emphasizing microRNAs. They have emerged as important regulators of innate and adaptive immune responses. Analyzing these mechanisms can enhance our understanding of probiotic-host microbiota interactions, providing insights into their molecular functions. This knowledge can be applied not only in the swine industry, but also in studying microbiota-related disorders. Moreover, these studies serve as animal models, helping to understand better conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and other related disorders.

Abstract
B vitamins and probiotics are commonly used dietary supplements with well-documented health benefits. However, their potential interactions remain poorly understood. This study aims to explore the effects and underlying mechanisms of the combined use of B vitamins and probiotics by liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry analysis, pharmacokinetic modeling, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. By intragastric administration of seven B vitamins and three Lactobacillus strains to healthy rats (n = 8 per group), we found that probiotics significantly promoted the absorption (by approximately 14.5% to 71.2%) of vitamins B1, B3, B5, and B12. By conducting in vitro experiments (n = 3 per group) and a pseudo-germ-free rat model-based pharmacokinetic study (n = 6 per group), we confirmed that probiotics primarily enhanced the B vitamin absorption through gut microbiota-mediated mechanisms, rather than by directly producing B vitamins. Furthermore, we evaluated the effects of B vitamins and probiotics on the colon and gut microbiota by treating the pseudo-germ-free rats with blank solution, B vitamins, probiotics, and B vitamins + probiotics (n = 5 per group), respectively. Histopathological examination showed that the combination of B vitamins and probiotics synergistically alleviated the rat colon damage. High-throughput genetic sequencing also revealed the synergistic effect of B vitamins and probiotics in modulating the gut microbiota, particularly increasing the abundance of Verrucomicrobia and Akkermansia. In summary, the combined administration of B vitamins and probiotics may have a higher efficacy than using them alone.

Abstract
There is increasing evidence that probiotic and commensal bacteria play a role in substrate metabolism, energy harvesting and intestinal homeostasis, and may exert immunomodulatory activities on human health. In addition, recent research suggests that these microorganisms interact with vitamins and minerals, promoting intestinal and metabolic well-being while producing vital microbial metabolites such as short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). In this regard, there is a flourishing field exploring the intricate dynamics between vitamins, minerals, SCFAs, and commensal/probiotic interactions. In this review, we summarize some of the major hypotheses beyond the mechanisms by which commensals/probiotics impact gut health and their additional effects on the absorption and metabolism of vitamins, minerals, and SCFAs. Our analysis includes comprehensive review of existing evidence from preclinical and clinical studies, with particular focus on the potential interaction between commensals/probiotics and micronutrients. Finally, we highlight knowledge gaps and outline directions for future research in this evolving field.

Abstract
The interaction of iron and intestinal flora, both of which play crucial roles in many physiologic processes, is involved in the development of Metabolic syndrome (MetS). MetS is a pathologic condition represented by insulin resistance, obesity, dyslipidemia, and hypertension. MetS-related comorbidities including type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), obesity, metabolism-related fatty liver (MAFLD), hypertension polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and so forth. In this review, we examine the interplay between intestinal flora and human iron metabolism and its underlying mechanism in the pathogenesis of MetS-related comorbidities. The composition and metabolites of intestinal flora regulate the level of human iron by modulating intestinal iron absorption, the factors associated with iron metabolism. On the other hand, the iron level also affects the abundance, composition, and metabolism of intestinal flora. The crosstalk between these factors is of significant importance in human metabolism and exerts varying degrees of influence on the manifestation and progression of MetS-related comorbidities. The findings derived from these studies can enhance our comprehension of the interplay between intestinal flora and iron metabolism, and open up novel potential therapeutic approaches toward MetS-related comorbidities.

Abstract
The interplay between probiotics and mineral absorption is a topic of growing interest due to its great potential for human well-being. Minerals are vital in various physiological processes, and deficiencies can lead to significant health problems. Probiotics, beneficial microorganisms residing in the gut, have recently gained attention for their ability to modulate mineral absorption and mitigate deficiencies. The aim of the present review is to investigate the intricate connection between probiotics and the absorption of key minerals such as calcium, selenium, zinc, magnesium, and potassium. However, variability in probiotic strains, and dosages, alongside the unique composition of individuals in gut microbiota, pose challenges in establishing universal guidelines. An improved understanding of these mechanisms will enable the development of targeted probiotic interventions to optimize mineral absorption and promote human health.

Abstract
Multi-strain Limosilactobacillus (L.) fermentum is a potential probiotic with reported immunomodulatory properties. This study aimed to evaluate the composition, richness, and diversity of the gut microbiota in male and female rats after treatment with a multi-strain of L. fermentum at different doses. Thirty rats (fifteen male and fifteen female) were allocated into a control group (CTL), a group receiving L. fermentum at a dose of 108 CFU (Lf-108), and a group receiving L. fermentum at a dose of 1010 CFU (Lf-1010) for 13 weeks. Gut microbiota and serum cytokine levels were evaluated after L. fermentum treatment. Male CTL rats had a lower relative abundance of Bifidobacteriaceae and Prevotella and a lower alpha diversity than their female CTL counterparts (p < 0.05). In addition, male CTL rats had a higher Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes (F/B) ratio than female CTL rats (p < 0.05). In female rats, the administration of L. fermentum at 108 CFU decreased the relative abundance of Bifidobacteriaceae and Anaerobiospirillum and increased Lactobacillus (p < 0.05). In male rats, the administration of L. fermentum at 1010 CFU decreased the F/B ratio and increased Lachnospiraceae and the diversity of the gut microbiota (p < 0.05). The relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae and the alpha-diversity of gut microbiota were negatively correlated with serum levels of IL1β (r = -0.44) and TNFα (r = -0.39), respectively. This study identified important changes in gut microbiota between male and female rats and showed that a lower dose of L. fermentum may have more beneficial effects on gut microbiota in females, while a higher dose may result in more beneficial effects on gut microbiota in male rats.

Abstract
The growing interest of the scientific community in the study of probiotics has gathered valuable data about its beneficial effects for multiple clinical conditions. This data also provides evidence for the functions and properties of probiotics and how they contribute to health benefits by influencing normal microbiota. Lactobacillus is an important genus which has long been utilized in the food industry and is also found as normal oral, intestinal and vaginal microbiota. Lactobacillus has shown multiple health benefits but its relative importance as a probiotic is majorly explored for gastrointestinal health. Healthy vaginal microbiota typically harbors Lactobacillus spp. providing several health benefits for female reproductive health, but there is more data required in order to compare the relative benefits with probiotic Lactobacillus added through either natural food sources or with standard probiotics supplements. The present article discusses the current status of knowledge about vaginal Lactobacillus as a probiotic and also compares the potential of probiotics from natural sources and through supplements along with recent approaches in this area.

Abstract
The complex role of the gut microbiome in the pathogenesis of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders is an emerging area of research, and there is considerable interest in understanding how diet can alter the composition and function of the microbiome. Prebiotics and probiotics have been shown to beneficially modulate the gut microbiome, which underlies their potential for benefit in GI conditions. Formulating specific recommendations for the public regarding these dietary supplements has been difficult due to the significant heterogeneity between strains, doses, and duration of treatment investigated across studies, as well as safety concerns with administering live organisms. This review aims to summarize the existing evidence for the use of prebiotics and probiotics in various GI disorders, paying special attention to strain-specific effects that emerged and any adverse effects noted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Probiotics are commonly used after bariatric surgery. However, uncertainty remains regarding their effects. The purpose of this systematic review was to assess the effect of probiotics in patients with morbid obesity undergoing bariatric surgery. METHODS PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Science Direct, and Web of Science were searched from inception to April 4, 2023. No language restrictions were applied. Relevant randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials were included. We used the aggregated data extracted from the trials and assessed the heterogeneity. When severe heterogeneity was detected, a random effect model was used. All stages of the review were done by independent authors. RESULTS We screened 2024 references and included 11 randomized controlled trials and controlled clinical trials. Compared with the protocol groups, probiotics showed significant effects on regulating aspartate amino transferase level (MD = -4.32 U/L; 95% CI [-7.10, -1.53], p = 0.002), triglycerides (MD = -20.16 mg/dL; 95% CI [-34.51, -5.82], p = 0.006), weight (MD = -1.99 kg; 95% CI [-3.97, -0.01], p = 0.05), vitamin B12 (MD = 2.24 pg/dL; 95% CI [-0.02, 4.51], p = 0.05), dietary energy (MD = -151.03 kcal; 95% CI [-215.68, -86.37], p < 0.00001), dietary protein (MD = -4.48 g/day, 95% CI [-8.76, -0.20], p = 0.04), dietary carbohydrate (MD = -34.25 g/day, 95% CI [-44.87, -23.62], p < 0.00001), and dietary fiber (MD = -2.17 g/day, 95% CI [-3.21, -1.14], p < 0.0001). There were no severe side effects related to probiotics. CONCLUSIONS Our meta-analysis suggested that probiotics may delay the progression of liver function injury, improve lipid metabolism, reduce weight, and reduce food intake, although the effects on other indicators were insignificant. Probiotics may be helpful for patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The review was registered on PROSPERO (International prospective register of systematic reviews): CRD42023407970. Abstract
Introduction Numerous meta-analyses have demonstrated the beneficial effects of probiotics on oxidative stress biomarkers, although some studies have contradictory results. Therefore, the current research was conducted to obtain a precise and definite understanding on the impact of probiotics on oxidative stress biomarkers in adults. Methods We conducted a comprehensive systematic search of results on Scopus, PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar dating up to March 2022. Fifteen meta-analyses were included in this umbrella meta-analysis. The random-effects model was employed to obtain the overall effect size. Subgroup analyses were carried out based on supplementation dosage and duration, mean age, and study population. Results Our results indicated that probiotics supplementation meaningfully decreased serum malondialdehyde (MDA) (ESWMD = -0.56, 95% CI: -0.72, -0.39; p < 0.001, and ESSMD = -0.50, 95% CI: -0.66, -0.34; p < 0.001). Moreover, the findings showed that probiotics resulted in a significant increase in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) (ESWMD = 29.18, 95% CI: 16.31, 42.04; p < 0.001, and ESSMD = 0.25, 95% CI: 0.02, 0.47; p = 0.032), total glutathione (GSH) (ESWMD: 30.65; 95% CI: 16.94, 44.35, p < 0.001), and nitric oxide (NO) (ESWMD: 1.48; 95% CI: 0.31, 2.65, p = 0.013; I2 = 51.7%, p = 0.043). Discussion Probiotics could be considered a strong agent in the reinforcement of antioxidant status and preventing the incidence of chronic diseases.

Abstract
Autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) are associated with specific dietary habits, including limited food selection and gastrointestinal problems, resulting in an altered gut microbiota. Autistic patients have an elevated abundance of certain gut bacteria associated with increased oxidative stress in the gastrointestinal tract. Probiotic supplementation has been shown to decrease oxidative stress in a simulated gut model, but the antioxidant effects of probiotics on the oxidative stress of the gut in autistic patients have not been directly studied. However, it is speculated that probiotic supplementation may help decrease oxidative stress in the gastrointestinal tract of autistic patients due to their specific dietary habits altering the microbiota. PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases and Google Scholar were searched up to May 2023. This systematic-narrative review aims to present the latest evidence regarding the changes in eating habits of autistic children which may further increase the gut microbiota induced oxidative stress. Additionally, this review will assess the available literature on the effects of probiotic supplementation on oxidative stress parameters.

Abstract
Micronutrient deficiencies or "hidden hunger" remains a serious public health problem in most low- and middle-income countries, with severe consequences for child development. Traditional methods of treatment and prevention, such as supplementation and fortification, have not always proven to be effective and may have undesirable side-effects (i.e., digestive troubles with iron supplementation). Commensal bacteria in the gut may increase bioavailability of specific micronutrients (i.e., minerals), notably by removing anti-nutritional compounds, such as phytates and polyphenols, or by the synthesis of vitamins. Together with the gastrointestinal mucosa, gut microbiota is also the first line of protection against pathogens. It contributes to the reinforcement of the integrity of the intestinal epithelium and to a better absorption of micronutrients. However, its role in micronutrient malnutrition is still poorly understood. Moreover, the bacterial metabolism is also dependent of micronutrients acquired from the gut environment and resident bacteria may compete or collaborate to maintain micronutrient homeostasis. Gut microbiota composition can therefore be modulated by micronutrient availability. This review brings together current knowledge on this two-way relationship between micronutrients and gut microbiota bacteria, with a focus on iron, zinc, vitamin A and folate (vitamin B9), as these deficiencies are public health concerns in a global context.

Abstract
The emphasis on healthy nutrition is gaining a forefront place in current biomedical sciences. Nutritional deficiencies and imbalances have been widely demonstrated to be involved in the genesis and development of many world-scale public health burdens, such as metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. In recent years, bee pollen is emerging as a scientifically validated candidate, which can help diminish conditions through nutritional interventions. This matrix is being extensively studied, and has proven to be a very rich and well-balanced nutrient pool. In this work, we reviewed the available evidence on the interest in bee pollen as a nutrient source. We mainly focused on bee pollen richness in nutrients and its possible roles in the main pathophysiological processes that are directly linked to nutritional imbalances. This scoping review analyzed scientific works published in the last four years, focusing on the clearest inferences and perspectives to translate cumulated experimental and preclinical evidence into clinically relevant insights. The promising uses of bee pollen for malnutrition, digestive health, metabolic disorders, and other bioactivities which could be helpful to readjust homeostasis (as it is also true in the case of anti-inflammatory or anti-oxidant needs), as well as the benefits on cardiovascular diseases, were identified. The current knowledge gaps were identified, along with the practical challenges that hinder the establishment and fructification of these uses. A complete data collection made with a major range of botanical species allows more robust clinical information.

Abstract
This study aimed to explore the bacteria present in the digestive tracts of wild and cultivated Indonesian shortfin eel during the elver phase. The eel has high export potential due to its vitamin and micronutrient content, but slow growth and vulnerability to collapse in farm conditions hinder its cultivation. The microbiota in the eel's digestive tract is crucial for its health, particularly during the elver phase. This study used Next Generation Sequencing to analyze the community structure and diversity of bacteria in the eels' digestive tracts, focusing on the V3-V4 regions of the 16S rRNA gene. Mothur software was used for data analysis and PAST v.3.26 was used to calculate alpha diversity. The results showed that Proteobacteria (64.18%) and Firmicutes (33.55%) were the predominant phyla in the digestive tract of cultivated eels, while Bacteroidetes (54.16%), Firmicutes (14.71%), and Fusobacteria (10.56%) were predominant in wild eels. The most prevalent genera in cultivated and wild elver were Plesiomonas and Cetobacterium, respectively. The microbiota in the digestive tract of cultivated eels was diverse despite uneven distribution. The KEGG database analysis revealed that the primary function of the microbiome was to facilitate the eel's absorption of nutrients by contributing significantly to the metabolism of carbohydrates and amino acids. This study's findings can aid in assessing eel health and improving eel farming conditions.

Abstract
Gut microbiota plays a role in the neonatal immune education and could influence susceptibility to Th2-type immune disorders, such as allergies, the most prevalent chronic diseases in early childhood. We studied the impact of oral Lactobacillus rhamnosus (L.rhamnosus) supplementation to pregnant/breastfeeding C57BL/6 mice on the development of allergic airways disease in their offspring. We observed that mice, from L.rhamnosus-treated mothers, inoculated with ovalbumin (OVA)-Aluminium hydroxide (ALUM) at 3 days of life and challenged intranasally 4 weeks later showed decreased Th2-associated cytokines, IgE and IgG1, lung eosinophilia and airway hyper-reactivity compared to OVA-sensitized mice from untreated mothers. In that setting, the L.rhamnosus treatment increased the number and maturation of splenic neonatal type 1 conventional dendritic cells (cDC1) that remained largely dominant over the cDC2 and favored their OVA-specific Th1 differentiation. In response to inhaled house dust mite (HDM) allergen, the maternal L.rhamnosus supplementation increased the number of neonatal pulmonary cDC1 expressing lower amount of costimulatory molecules compared with no supplementation and decreased the number of cDC2 without affecting their costimulatory molecules expression. An HDM-specific Foxp3+RORγt+ Treg polarization was monitored in the lung draining lymph nodes. Finally, we confirmed the inhibitory effect of maternal L.rhamnosus treatment on all the measured features of the HDM allergic airways reaction in their offspring. We conclude that maternal L.rhamnosus administration prevents Th2-type allergic airways disease in their neonates by favoring splenic cDC1/Th1 responses against ALUM-adjuvanted OVA or by promoting a pulmonary Foxp3+RORγt+ Treg activation against inhaled HDM.

Abstract
Vitamin B consists of a group of water-soluble micronutrients that are mainly derived from the daily diet. They serve as cofactors, mediating multiple metabolic pathways in humans. As an integrated part of human health, gut microbiota could produce, consume, and even compete for vitamin B with the host. The interplay between gut microbiota and the host might be a crucial factor affecting the absorbing processes of vitamin B. On the other hand, vitamin B supplementation or deficiency might impact the growth of specific bacteria, resulting in changes in the composition and function of gut microbiota. Together, the interplay between vitamin B and gut microbiota might systemically contribute to human health. In this review, we summarized the interactions between vitamin B and gut microbiota and tried to reveal the underlying mechanism so that we can have a better understanding of its role in human health.

Abstract
Antibiotics have been used to maintain the overall health of poultry by increasing production efficiency, promoting growth, and improving intestinal function for more than 50 years. However, they have a number of side effects, such as antibiotic resistance, gut dysbiosis, destruction of beneficial bacteria, and the potential to spread diseases to humans. In order to address the aforementioned issues, a lot of effort is put into the development of antibiotic alternatives. One of them is the use of probiotics that can be added to the feed in order to increase poultry performance and avoid the aforementioned problems. Probiotics are live microorganisms consumed as feed additives or supplements. They function in the poultry gastrointestinal tract to benefit the host. Probiotics improve growth performance, bone health, meat and eggshell quality. The addition of probiotics to the diet also positively affects the immune response, intestinal microflora, and disease resistance. Careful selection of probiotic strains is of utmost importance. This review focuses on the significance of probiotics as a potential antibiotic-free alternative and the way in which they can be used as supplements in poultry feed for boosting production and safeguarding health.

Abstract
Currently, there is a lack of understanding of why many patients with thyroid dysfunction remain symptomatic despite being biochemically euthyroid. Gastrointestinal (GI) health is imperative for absorption of thyroid-specific nutrients as well as thyroid function directly. This comprehensive narrative review describes the impact of what the authors have conceptualized as the “nutrient–GI–thyroid axis”. Compelling evidence reveals how gastrointestinal health could be seen as the epicenter of thyroid-related care given that: (1) GI conditions can lower thyroid-specific nutrients; (2) GI care can improve status of thyroid-specific nutrients; (3) GI conditions are at least 45 times more common than hypothyroidism; (4) GI care can resolve symptoms thought to be from thyroid dysfunction; and (5) GI health can affect thyroid autoimmunity. A new appreciation for GI health could be the missing link to better nutrient status, thyroid status, and clinical care for those with thyroid dysfunction.

Abstract
Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) is one of the most popular and valuable vegetables in the world. The most common products of its industrial processing in the food industry are juice, tomato paste, various sauces, canned or sun-dried fruits and powdered products. Tomato fruits are susceptible to bacterial diseases, and bacterial contamination can be a risk factor for the safety of processed tomato products. Developments in bioinformatics allow researchers to discuss target probiotic strains from an existing large number of probiotic strains for any link in the soil-plant-animal-human chain. Based on the literature and knowledge on the "One Health" concept, this study relates to the suggestion of a new term for probiotics: "One Health probiotics", beneficial for the unity of people, animals, and the environment. Strains of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum, having an ability to ferment a broad spectrum of plant carbohydrates, probiotic effects in human, and animal health, as well as being found in dairy products, vegetables, sauerkraut, pickles, some cheeses, fermented sausages, fish products, and rhizospheric soil, might be suggested as one of the probable candidates for "One Health" probiotics (also, for "One Health-tomato" probiotics) for the utilization in agriculture, food processing, and healthcare.

Abstract
Physical activity, combined with adequate nutrition, is considered a protective factor against cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disorders, and intestinal dysbiosis. Achieving optimal performance requires a significantly high energy expenditure, which must be correctly supplied to avoid the occurrence of diseases such as muscle injuries, oxidative stress, and heart pathologies, and a decrease in physical performance during competition. Moreover, in sports activities, the replenishment of water, vitamins, and minerals consumed during training is essential for safeguarding athletes’ health. In this scenario, vitamins play a pivotal role in numerous metabolic reactions and some muscle biochemical adaptation processes induced by sports activity. Vitamins are introduced to the diet because the human body is unable to produce these micronutrients. The aim of this review is to highlight the fundamental role of vitamin supplementation in physical activity. Above all, we focus on the roles of vitamins A, B6, D, E, and K in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disorders, muscle injuries, and regulation of the microbiome.
