Abstract
Research background The role of dietary habits of patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is comparatively underexplored. The aim of the study is to examine dietary habits, onset and course of the disease as well as the quality of life of patients with LPR. Experimental approach The results of the modified food frequency questionnaire (FFQ-m) and laryngopharyngeal reflux health-related quality of life (LPR-HRQL) questionnaires were compared between subjects with and without LPR. There were a total of 100 subjects with LPR and 65 subjects in the control group. The group of subjects with LPR was further randomly divided into two subgroups; the first subgroup was treated with esomeprazole at a dose of 20 mg twice daily combined with the instructions for dietary and general lifestyle changes, and the other with pantoprazole at a dose of 20 mg twice daily combined with the instructions for dietary and general lifestyle changes. Participants were instructed to fill out FFQ-m and LPR-HRQL questionnaires immediately after the initial examination and then after control examinations 30 and 60 days after the initial examination. Results and conclusions Patients with LPR consume more food with high reflux potential, drink more carbonated drinks and juices and have a worse quality of life than the control group (p<0.001). Taking proton pump inhibitors at a dose of 20 mg twice daily in combination with a change in dietary habits such as substituting acidic, spicy, fermented, sweet, fried foods and other foods with a high reflux potential as well as carbonated drinks and juices with the food with a low reflux potential and water significantly reduced the symptoms of LPR and increased the quality of life of the patients (p<0.001). Novelty and scientific contribution This is the first study showing the correlation between dietary habits and the quality of life of patients with LPR. The contribution of this research is an objective assessment of the follow-up of patients with LPR that could be used in their regular assessment.

Abstract
High free sugar intake can lead to increased dental caries, obesity, and other health risks among adolescents. Studies have shown that family factors, especially parents, are one of the primary factors influencing adolescents' sugar intake. This study aims to investigate the influence of adolescent parents' free sugar intake, knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) on adolescents' free sugar intake. A total of 1090 pairs of adolescents and their parents from 10 secondary schools in Changsha were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. Free sugar intakes of parents and adolescents were measured using the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). The current status of parents' knowledge, attitude, and practice in consuming free sugar was investigated using online and offline questionnaires. Parental free sugar intake was 11.55 (5.08, 21.95) g/d, and that of adolescents was 41.13 (19.06, 80.58) g/d. Parental free sugar intake, free sugar knowledge level, intake behavior, and guidance behavior were associated with adolescent free sugar intake. A superior level of parental free sugar knowledge (adjusted OR = 0.726, 95% CI: 0.557~0.946) was a protective factor for adolescent free sugar intake. Moderate and high levels of parental free sugar intake (adjusted OR = 1.706, 95% CI: 1.212~2.401; adjusted OR = 2.372, 95% CI: 1.492~3.773, respectively) were risk factors for free sugar intake in adolescents. Given the importance of parental influence on the adolescent free sugar intake, further limiting parental intake and increasing awareness of free sugars could play an active role in future interventions for adolescents' free sugar intake.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the prevalence of laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) and knowledge of LPR in the Chinese nurse population. METHOD From October 2021 through December 2021, participants were recruited from the PLA General Hospital's Sixth Medical Center. All included participants completed the Reflux Symptom Index (RSI), and LPR was defined as RSI > 13. In addition, each participant was asked to record whether they had any habits such as preferring to consume high-fat food and carbonated beverages, over-eating at dinner, sedentary after meals and lying down within 2 hour after meals, as well as whether they were aware of LPR. For the participants with RSI >13 points, they were treated using diet and lifestyle behavioral recommendations and were prescribed a twice daily pantoprazole (20 mg, 3 months). RESULTS A total of 828 participants were included. The positivity and awareness rates of LPR were 3.38% and 55.96%, respectively. RSI scores were significantly higher in LPR-positive subjects than in LPR-negative (16.79 ± 4.43 vs. 1.33 ± 2.33). Among the participants with LPR, there were significant positive association between RSI scores and preferring to consume high-fat food and carbonated beverages, over-eating at dinner, lying down within 2 hour after a meal, and sedentary after meals. RSI scores in 63% of participants with LPR significantly decreased from baseline to 1 month posttreatment. From 1 to 3 months posttreatment, 90% of participants had significantly lower RSI scores than pretreatment. CONCLUSIONS There are a certain number of LPR patients in the Chinese nurse population, however, knowledge of LPR among nurses is unsatisfactory. Over-eating at dinner, lying down within 2 hour after a meal and sedentary after meals are risk factors for LPR. With combined regular dietary and lifestyle behavioral change and acid-suppressing treatment, most patients with LPR achieve effective remission.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) and explore the association between free sugars intake and EDS. In this cross-sectional study, a total of 1517 middle school students (808 boys and 707 girls) aged 12~14 years were recruited. The study was conducted in Changsha city, China. Adolescents completed an online questionnaire, including the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), sleep characteristics, a 12-item Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and other self-reported information. The ESS score ≥ ten was defined as EDS. The anthropometric indices, including height, weight, and waist circumference, were measured and recorded by uniformly trained assistants. Statistical analyses included the Chi-square test and binary logistic regression model. The mean ESS score and free sugars consumption were 6.8 ± 3.9 points and 53.1 ± 44.7 g/d, respectively. The prevalence of EDS among adolescents was 22.5%, and more girls than boys had EDS (26.1% vs. 19.4%, p < 0.05). An exceeded free sugars intake was positively associated with EDS, with the adjusted Odds Ratio (OR) with its 95% Confident Interval (95% CI) of 1.366 (1.060~1.761, p < 0.05). EDS and excessive consumption of free sugars are commonly found among Chinese adolescents. Further studies are needed to confirm whether free sugars restriction can be meaningful to improve daytime drowsiness in those with EDS.
