Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous research has shown that lifestyle modification can delay or prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes in high-risk individuals. The Norfolk Diabetes Prevention Study (NDPS) was a parallel, three-arm, randomized controlled trial with up to 46 months follow-up that tested a group-delivered, theory-based lifestyle intervention to reduce the incidence of type 2 diabetes in high-risk groups. The current study aimed to evaluate if the NDPS intervention was delivered to an acceptable standard and if any part(s) of the delivery required improvement. METHODS A sub-sample of 30, 25 for inter-rater reliability and audio-recordings of the NDPS intervention education sessions were assessed independently by two reviewers (CT, TW) using a 12-item checklist. Each item was scored on a 0-5 scale, with a score of 3 being defined as 'adequate delivery'. Inter-rater reliability was assessed. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to assess changes in intervention fidelity as the facilitators gained experience. RESULTS Inter-rater agreement was acceptable (86%). A mean score of 3.47 (SD = .38) was achieved across all items of the fidelity checklist and across all intervention facilitators (n = 6). There was an apparent trend for intervention fidelity scores to decrease with experience; however, this trend was non-significant (p > .05) across all domains in this small sample. CONCLUSION The NDPS was delivered to an acceptable standard by all Diabetes Prevention Facilitators. Further research is needed to better understand how the intervention's delivery characteristics can be optimized and how they might vary over time.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Recent studies reported that virtual health coaching (VHCs) had greater benefits on glycemic control compared to traditional diabetes care. However, VHCs are reported to lack real-time evaluations and personalized patient feedback. To support the intention of developing high quality VHC programs, this review aimed to describe characteristics of the coach-client interaction within VHC that had beneficial impacts on patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. METHODS We conducted a comprehensive scoping review following the six steps of the framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley. Twelve articles that met the eligibility criteria were retrieved from Medline, ProQuest, Science Direct and Scopus. RESULTS We found five key concepts regarding the characteristics of coach-client interactions. First, the discussion through smartphones involved individualized feedback and insights, goals setting, barrier identification, facilitation to change behavior, and also clients' clinical, mental, and social conditions. Second, the interactions were supported by in-app features including in-app messaging, email, in-app live video consultation and in-app discussion forums. Third, the most used time of evaluation was 12 months. Fourth, the most commonly delivered topic was lifestyle changes which were predominantly focused on dietary patterns. Fifth, most of health coaches were health liaisons. CONCLUSIONS The findings highlight the discussion points within interaction through well-planned devices combining an appropriate in-app features contribute to an effective coach-client interactions of VHC. It is expected that future studies can apply these findings as the basis to develop a single set of standards for VHCs which refer to specific patterns of patient-oriented interaction.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW The current article will highlight recent trends and novel approaches to behavior change strategies in nutrition. Physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals play key roles in counseling patients on lifestyle change, which is critical for patients with chronic conditions. Nutrition science continues to advance, and new approaches to behavior change are needed for successful implementation at the individual and population level. RECENT FINDINGS The solutions to obstacles around healthful eating patterns are varied, population-dependent, and require a multipronged approach. One area of focus is the language around behavior change, ensuring it is clear and emphasizes its multifactorial nature. For young adults, the careful use of video games and social media may be essential. For older adults, altering food consistency and ensuring proper nutrient intake are crucial factors. Vulnerable populations remain susceptible to malnutrition and need special attention. Despite significant advances in managing and treating diseases, there are still gaps in nutrition counseling and behavior change efforts. SUMMARY Every age and stage of life needs a focus on healthful foods, and nutrition counseling at each stage has its unique nuances. Careful attention to the language of change and the phrasing used in counseling is vital for educating, connecting with, and empowering patients to change. Changing healthcare operations and provider behavior around nutrition counseling is a part of the solution to the worldwide problem of unhealthy eating patterns and practices.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Type 2 diabetes (T2D) and its complications are increasing rapidly. Support for healthy lifestyle and self-management is paramount, but not adequately implemented in health systems. Process evaluations facilitate understanding why and how interventions work through analyzing the interaction between intervention theory, implementation and context. The Self-Management and Reciprocal Learning for Type 2 Diabetes project implemented and evaluated community-based interventions (peer support program; care companion; and link between facility care and community support) for persons at high risk of or having T2D in a rural community in Uganda, an urban township in South Africa, and socioeconomically disadvantaged urban communities in Sweden. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS This paper reports implementation process outcomes across the three sites, guided by the Medical Research Council framework for complex intervention process evaluations. Data were collected through observations of peer support group meetings using a structured guide, and semistructured interviews with project managers, implementers, and participants. RESULTS The countries aligned implementation in accordance with the feasibility and relevance in the local context. In Uganda and Sweden, the implementation focused on peer support; in South Africa, it focused on the care companion part. The community-facility link received the least attention. Continuous capacity building received a lot of attention, but intervention reach, dose delivered, and fidelity varied substantially. Intervention-related and context-related barriers affected participation. CONCLUSIONS Identification of the key uncertainties and conditions facilitates focus and efficient use of resources in process evaluations, and context relevant findings. The use of an overarching framework allows to collect cross-contextual evidence and flexibility in evaluation design to adapt to the complex nature of the intervention. When designing interventions, it is crucial to consider aspects of the implementing organization or structure, its absorptive capacity, and to thoroughly assess and discuss implementation feasibility, capacity and organizational context with the implementation team and recipients. These recommendations are important for implementation and scale-up of complex interventions. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER ISRCTN11913581.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To identify the key characteristics of practice nurses' communication with people living with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) where lifestyle activities are discussed. METHODS A scoping review of the peer-reviewed literature was conducted. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to identify key themes that emerged. The PRISMA-ScR checklist was followed. RESULTS 25 studies were retained in the final review. Nurses who were committed to engaging in lifestyle discussions created supportive environments and built rapport to enable change conversations. However, this was present in just 20% of the studies. In most studies, (60%) nurses continued to use traditional health education communication styles, had little understanding of behaviour change theories, lacked skills in behaviour change counselling and were reluctant to engage in behaviour change discussions with people with T2D . CONCLUSIONS Nurses require a deeper understanding of behavioural change theories and skills in behavioural counselling. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Practice nurses have a unique opportunity to facilitate T2D remission by engaging in evidence-based behaviour change communication. A behaviour change training intervention is needed that recognises the environment of practice nurse consultations. It needs to be pragmatic and fully consider the enablers and barriers to addressing behaviour change in both the nurse and the person with T2D.
