Abstract
INTRODUCTION Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective medication to reduce the risk of acquiring HIV. PrEP is available free of charge in the UK from sexual health clinics. Expanding PrEP delivery to community pharmacies holds promise and aligns with UK government goals to eliminate new cases of HIV by 2030. The aim of this scoping review was to describe the existing evidence about the barriers to and facilitators of community pharmacy oral PrEP delivery, for pharmacists and pharmacy clients, as aligned with the Capacity Opportunity, Motivation Behaviour (COM-B) Model. METHODS Five bibliographic and five review databases were searched from inception to August 2023. Literature of any study design was included if it discussed barriers and facilitators of community pharmacy PrEP delivery. Trial registrations, protocols and news articles were excluded. RESULTS A total of 649 records were identified, 73 full texts were reviewed and 56 met the inclusion criteria, predominantly from high-income/westernized settings. Most of the included literature was original research (55%), from the United States (77%) conducted during or after the year 2020 (63%). Barriers to PrEP delivery for pharmacists included lack of knowledge, training and skills (capability), not having the necessary facilities (opportunity), concern about the costs of PrEP and believing that PrEP use could lead to risk behaviours and sexually transmitted infections (motivation). Facilitators included staff training (capability), time, the right facilities (opportunity), believing PrEP could be a source of profit and could reduce new HIV acquisitions (motivation). For clients, barriers included a lack of PrEP awareness (capability), pharmacy facilities (opportunity) and not considering pharmacists as healthcare providers (motivation). Facilitators included awareness of PrEP and pharmacist's training to deliver it (capability), the accessibility of pharmacies (opportunity) and having an interest in PrEP (motivation). DISCUSSION To effectively enhance oral PrEP delivery in UK community pharmacies, the identified barriers and facilitators should be explored for UK relevance, addressed and leveraged at the pharmacy team, client and care pathway level. CONCLUSIONS By comprehensively considering all aspects of the COM-B framework, community pharmacies could become crucial providers in expanding PrEP accessibility, contributing significantly to HIV prevention efforts.

Abstract
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has received increased attention within the pharmacy profession in the United States and is recognized as a potential pathway for ongoing professional development and practice transformation. Despite potential benefits of CPD, adoption in the United States has remained limited. A CPD program accreditation pathway, including principles, guidance, and a credit system for CPD programs, has recently been approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Board of Directors. This commentary reviews existing literature regarding pharmacy CPD, introduces CPD program principles and guidance for CPD program providers, and describes the model for awarding CPD units.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Continuing professional development (CPD) is essential for pharmacists to maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills. The purpose of this research was to collect data about the perception of pharmacists in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) towards CPD and identify factors that motivate or hinder their participation in different types of CPD activities. METHODS A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 322 pharmacists who completed a self-administered questionnaire that assessed their demographic characteristics, CPD preferences, motivators and obstacles to attending CPD programs, and perceived learning outcomes. RESULTS Participants' average age was 33 years (mean = 30.6, SD = 5.97), and the range of years, since they graduated from a pharmacy degree program was 18 years (mean = 10.9, SD = 4.8). More than half of the participants were female; 198 (61.5%) and 193 (59.9%) of them were married. The study found that married pharmacists (AOR = 0.5, 95% CI 0.266-0.939, P value = 0.031), older participants (AOR = 0.232, 95% CI 0.266-0.939, P value = 0.04), and those who graduated longer than 16 years ago were less likely to attend live CPD events (AOR = 0.454, 95% CI 0.22-0.924). However, participants who worked up to 15 h had higher odds of attending live CPD events (AOR = 3.511, 95% CI 1.117-11.039, P value: 0.026). In addition, female pharmacists were less likely to participate in computer/internet-based continuing education than male pharmacists (AOR = 0.038, 95% CI 0.293-0.965, P value = 0.038). It also revealed that pharmacists who were not motivated by the topic of the CPD activity had a higher chance of attending computer/internet-based format (AOR = 2.289, 95% CI 1.198-4.371, P value = 0.012). In contrast, those who did not report the long distance to the CPD site as a hindrance had a lower likelihood of attending online internet-based CPD (AOR = 0.548, 95% CI 0.319-0.941, P value = 0.029). CONCLUSIONS This study is the first to explore pharmacists' predictors of attending different CPD activities. These predictors are gender, age, marital status, experience since graduation, working hours, family barriers, work responsibilities, interest in the presentation topic, and the long travel distance to the site. These findings suggest that pharmacists have unique challenges and motivations regarding continuing education and that tailored approaches may be necessary to encourage participation.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Men who have sex with men (MSM), especially Black MSM, are disproportionately affected by HIV and experience disparate prescription of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention compared to White MSM. While pharmacists are essential in efforts to scale-up PrEP, little is known about the role of knowledge and implicit biases in pharmacy students' decision-making regarding PrEP, which may elucidate mechanisms for improving PrEP access and addressing disparities. METHODS A nationwide, cross-sectional study of pharmacy students in the United States was conducted. A fictional White or Black MSM seeking PrEP was presented. Participants completed measures of PrEP/HIV knowledge, implicit racism and heterosexism, assumptions about the patient's behavior (condomless sex, extra-relational sex, adherence to PrEP), and confidence providing PrEP-related care. RESULTS A total of 194 pharmacy students completed the study. Compared to the White patient, the Black patient was assumed to be less adherent to PrEP if prescribed. In contrast, assumptions of sexual risk behaviors if prescribed PrEP and confidence providing PrEP-related care did not differ. Additionally, implicit racism was associated with lower confidence providing PrEP-related care, whereas PrEP/HIV knowledge, implicit sexual orientation bias, and assumed sexual risk behaviors if prescribed PrEP were not associated with confidence. CONCLUSIONS Pharmacists are essential in efforts to scale-up PrEP prescription, making pharmacy education about PrEP for HIV prevention critical. These findings suggest that implicit bias awareness training is needed. This training may reduce the influence of implicit racial bias on confidence providing PrEP-related care and improve knowledge of HIV and PrEP.

Abstract
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective treatment to combat the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) endemic, but the uptake of PrEP has been low in the United States (U.S.). While individuals may access PrEP via obtaining a prescription from their prescriber and having it dispensed by their pharmacist, less cumbersome access points may exist. This systematic literature review evaluates qualitative literature to explore the role of pharmacists, pharmacy services, and interprofessional collaborations for persons seeking PrEP in the United States. Four electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, CINAHL, and Embase) were searched in February 2022 and yielded 3841 results. After excluding duplicates, two researchers reviewed 2461 studies. These results were screened for inclusion and exclusion criteria and yielded 71 studies for full review. Out of these 71 studies, five studies met the pre-selected inclusion criteria. Of the five studies, four were qualitative studies, and one was a mixed-methods study. The studies examined different aspects of initiating PrEP and diverse outcomes, such as screening for PrEP, barriers to access PrEP, feasibility to access PrEP, accessibility via community pharmacy to PrEP, and interdisciplinary collaboration between members of the healthcare team to expand patient access to PrEP. A gap in the qualitative literature focusing on U.S. pharmacists' roles in initiation and provision of PrEP for diverse populations may exist. While PrEP promotion and uptake are largely affected by convenience and accessibility, future interventions and strategies should include training pertaining to PrEP screening, stigma reduction, privacy considerations, and PrEP dispensing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatments reduce the risk of contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, despite proven effectiveness, PrEP use remains low among populations at risk of contracting HIV. Successful PrEP uptake includes developing partnerships with health care providers to implement PrEP-related tools and interventions. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned health professionals who can provide PrEP services in the community, such as pharmacy-led PrEP clinics, to increase uptake, adherence, and retention. Unfortunately, prior evidence shows that not all pharmacists have enough knowledge about PrEP to provide effective care, resulting in low confidence and discomfort in PrEP-related patient consultations. OBJECTIVES This study aimed to assess Wisconsin community pharmacists' intentions of utilizing an infographic on PrEP for HIV prevention to educate themselves on PrEP and in consultations with patients starting PrEP. METHODS An adaptative survey, using the Theory of Planned Behavior, was conducted to assess pharmacists' intentions by measuring their attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. The Fisher exact tests were performed to examine associations between the 3 theoretical constructs against intentions. RESULTS Pharmacists reported high intentions of utilizing the infographic to educate themselves (62%) and counsel patients starting PrEP (54%). Their attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral controls were all significantly associated with their intentions. However, their intentions were reported lower than their attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control, suggesting that additional factors may influence intentions that were not measured in this study. CONCLUSION The results from this study demonstrate Wisconsin community pharmacists' intentions of using an infographic on PrEP for HIV prevention in practice while measuring their attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. Future research is warranted to explore adapting and using the infographic to better understand its influence in improving pharmacy care among HIV-negative individuals.

Abstract
Background Few studies have used implementation science frameworks to identify determinants of PrEP prescription by healthcare providers. In this work, we developed and psychometrically examined a questionnaire using the theoretical domains framework (TDF) and the consolidated framework for implementation research (CFIR). We used this questionnaire to investigate what factors influence the intention of healthcare providers to offer PrEP care and advocate for PrEP. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study in 16 HIV healthcare organizations in Colombia. A 98-item questionnaire was administered online to 129 healthcare professionals. One hundred had complete data for this analysis. We used exploratory factor analysis to assess the psychometric properties of both frameworks, and multinomial regression analysis to evaluate the associations of the frameworks’ domains with two outcomes: (1) intention to offer PrEP care and (2) intention to advocate for PrEP impmentation. Results We found support for nine indices with good internal consistency, reflecting PrEP characteristics, attitudes towards population needs, concerns about the use of PrEP, concerns about the role of the healthcare systems, knowledge, beliefs about capabilities, professional role, social influence, and beliefs about consequences. Notably, only 57% of the participants were likely to have a plan to care for people in PrEP and 66.7% were likely to advocate for PrEP. The perception of the need for PrEP in populations, the value of PrEP as a practice, the influence of colleagues, and seeing PrEP care as a priority was related to being less likely to be unwilling to provide or advocate for PrEP care. Conclusion Our findings suggested the importance of multilevel strategies to increase the provision of PrEP care by healthcare providers including adquisition of new skills, training of PrEP champions, and strength the capacity of the health system. Abstract
HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) remains underutilized in the U.S. Since greater than 85% of PrEP prescriptions are filled at commercial pharmacies, pharmacists are uniquely positioned to increase PrEP use. This scoping review explores pharmacy-based initiatives to increase PrEP use. We searched PubMed, PsycINFO, CINAHL, and Scopus for peer-reviewed studies on pharmacist-led interventions to increase PrEP use or pharmacy-based PrEP initiatives. Forty-nine articles were included in this review. Overall, studies demonstrated that patients expressed strong support for pharmacist prescription of PrEP. Three intervention designs compared changes in PrEP initiation or knowledge pre- and post-intervention. Commentary/review studies recommended PrEP training for pharmacists, policy changes to support pharmacist screening for HIV and PrEP prescription, and telemedicine to increase prescriptions. Pharmacists could play key roles in improving PrEP use in the U.S. Studies that assess improvements in PrEP use after interventions such as PrEP prescription, PrEP-specific training, and adherence monitoring by pharmacists are needed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Educational interventions are required to train pharmacists to provide culturally safe care to sexually- and gender-diverse patients. Programming must promote inclusivity and should also focus on systemwide change. The aim of this review was to identify, summarize, and map scholarly activity with respect to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, plus (LGBTQ+) health in entry-to-practice pharmacy curricula. METHODS An electronic search of Medline, EMBASE, and International Pharmaceutical Abstracts was conducted to search for relevant literature up to May 2021. This search was supplemented with a keyword search of three pharmacy education journals. Articles were included in the review if they described an educational intervention for entry-to-practice pharmacy students related to health for sexually- or gender-diverse patients. RESULTS Five articles met inclusion criteria. All articles reported interventions relating to gender-diverse patients. One reported interventions relating to sexually-diverse patients and another was deemed unclear. Four articles reported single teaching events or short modules, and one article reported a full course. Incorporating real patients into teaching events to share their experiences with the health system was consistently received positively by students. IMPLICATIONS Scholars involved in developing and implementing educational interventions related to health for sexually- and gender-diverse patients should be encouraged to contribute to the scholarly conversation by sharing successful experiences, as well as lessons learned. Future areas of expansion include integration of sexual and gender minority health across curricula and including content to prepare students for implementing and supporting systemwide change.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Groundbreaking new laws granting community pharmacists the authority to prescribe human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) medications have the potential to substantially expand PrEP access in high-risk communities. However, whether patients will be accepting of pharmacists as PrEP providers is underexplored within the literature. OBJECTIVES To assess patient perspectives of pharmacist PrEP prescribing and identify potential barriers to acceptance of pharmacist-prescribed PrEP. METHODS Adult patients currently receiving antiretroviral therapy for HIV prophylaxis or treatment at a specialty pharmacy were surveyed telephonically from January 2020-April 2020. A 4-point Likert scale was used to measure perceptions in addition to open-ended questions. RESULTS The participation rate was 87.5%. Of the 49 included patients, 100% agreed/strongly agreed that pharmacists were knowledgeable about medications, but they were less likely to strongly agree that pharmacists were knowledgeable about HIV drugs (14.3% vs. 75.5% for other drugs, P < 0.001). Most (93.9%) of the patients agreed/strongly agreed that they would feel comfortable seeking a pharmacist for PrEP information or HIV testing. With respect to PrEP prescribing, 16.3% disagreed that they would feel comfortable having a pharmacist prescribe their first fill of PrEP, preferring to speak to their physician or expressing concerns that pharmacists have inadequate training. All patients expressed a desire for additional HIV/PrEP training requirements for pharmacists before allowing them to prescribe PrEP. A portion of the respondents (18.4%) expressed concerns that the increased availability of PrEP would lead to persons becoming lax about barrier protection. However, 100% of the patients agreed/strongly agreed that having pharmacist-prescribed PrEP would benefit their community. CONCLUSION Patients receiving antiretroviral therapy reported overall favorable perceptions of pharmacist PrEP prescribing; however, some concerns relating to pharmacists' level of training in HIV exist. This may be ameliorated through increased pharmacist education, including how to counsel patients seeking PrEP on behavioral risk reduction.
