Abstract
While adding different micro- and nanocellulose types into epoxy coating formulations with waterborne phenalkamine crosslinker, effects on processing conditions and coating performance were systematically investigated. The variations in viscosity, thermal and thermomechanical properties, mechanical behavior, abrasive wear, water contact angles, and coating morphologies were evaluated. The selected additives include microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) at 1 to 10 wt.% and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC), cellulose nanofibers (CNF), cellulose microfibers (CMF), and hydrophobically modified cellulose microfibers (mCMF) at 0.1 to 1.5 wt.%. The viscosity profiles are determined by the inherent additive characteristics with strong shear thinning effects for epoxy/CNF, while the epoxy/mCMF provides lower viscosity and better matrix compatibility owing to the lubrication of encapsulated wax. The crosslinking of epoxy/CNF is favored and postponed for epoxy/(CNC, CMF, mCMF), as the stronger interactions between epoxy and CNF are confirmed by an increase in the glass transition temperature and reduction in the dampening factor. The mechanical properties indicate the highest hardness and impact strength for epoxy/CNF resulting in the lowest abrasion wear rates, but ductility enhances and wear rates mostly reduce for epoxy/mCMF together with hydrophobic protection. In addition, the mechanical reinforcement owing to the specific organization of a nanocellulose network at percolation threshold concentrations of 0.75 wt.% is confirmed by microscopic analysis: the latter results in a 2.6 °C (CNF) or 1.6 °C (CNC) increase in the glass transition temperature, 50% (CNF) or 20% (CNC) increase in the E modulus, 37% (CNF) or 32% (CNC) increase in hardness, and 58% (CNF) or 33% (CNC) lower abrasive wear compared to neat epoxy, while higher concentrations up to 1.5 wt.% mCMF can be added. This research significantly demonstrates that nanocellulose is directly compatible with a waterborne phenalkamine crosslinker and actively contributes to the crosslinking of waterborne epoxy coatings, changing the intrinsic glass transition temperatures and hardness properties, to which mechanical coating performance directly relates.

Effect of Number of Impregnations of Microberlinla sp with Microcapsule Emulsion on the Performance of Self-Repairing Coatings on Wood Surfaces. COATINGS 2022. Abstract
Embedding melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin-coated shellac microcapsules in waterborne coatings can extend the service longevity of waterborne coatings on a wood surface to a certain extent. Due to the content limitation of self-repairing microcapsules in waterborne coatings, the effective self-healing performance time is short. With the aim of improving the self-repairing properties of self-repairing coatings on the surface of a Microberlinla sp substrate, a more effective self-healing mechanism was achieved by impregnating the ebony wood substrate several times with an MF resin-coated transparent shellac-rosin microcapsule emulsion. After the impregnation of the ebony boards with microcapsules, a waterborne acrylic resin coating containing 3.0 wt.% transparent shellac microcapsules was applied to the surface of the wood boards. The influence of the number impregnations on the surface coating’s physical properties, chemical properties, and self-repairing properties was explored. The results showed that the hardness of the surface coating on the ebony boards changed little under different numbers of impregnations. With the increasing number of impregnations, the surface coatings’ adhesion and impact strength slowly increased, the chromatic difference value was increased, and the roughness first increased and then decreased. Impregnating ebony boards with the microcapsule emulsion contributes to enhancing the aging resistance and repair performance of surface coatings on the ebony boards. When the number of impregnations was eight, the width change rate of cracks on surface self-healing coatings was 28.4%, which suggested the best repair performance among all samples. By impregnating the wood substrate with the self-healing microcapsule emulsion, the effect of the interaction between microcapsules and wood on the self-repairing properties of the surface coating was studied, contributing to the theory for further improving the self-repairing properties of waterborne coatings on wood surfaces and promoting the application and development of self-healing microcapsules.

Abstract
Generally, microcapsule-based self-healing materials have the limitation of single local self-healing. A few studies have reported repeatable self-healing in these microcapsular materials, but there is a challenge to develop multi-cycle self-healing materials that have the advantages of easier preparation and a more efficient operation. In this work, a mixture of two vegetable oils, soybean and olive oil, was used as a healing agent. The atmospheric oxygen-induced reaction behavior (in the presence of a catalyst) was investigated for various compositions of the vegetable oil mixtures; infrared spectroscopy, recovery testing, and viscoelasticity measurement were performed to find an optimum composition of the healing agent. Microcapsules loaded with soybean oil and catalyst-containing olive oil were separately prepared and used to prepare a dual-capsule self-healing coating. It was demonstrated through optical and scanning electron microscopy that, upon scribing the self-healing coating, the vegetable oils flowed out from microcapsules to self-heal the damaged area. When the healed area of the self-healing coating was re-scribed, self-healing was repeated, which was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and anticorrosion and electrochemical testing. Our new repeatable self-healing coating provides the merits of easy preparation, no need for external intervention such as light irradiation, and an environmentally-friendly nature.

Abstract
This work presented a new concept for designing dual-chamber self-healing microcapsules, which encapsulated both healing and curing species within a single microcapsule via Pickering emulsion photopolymerization. In our strategy, robust SiO2 spheres encapsulating curing agent were firstly synthesized and used as Pickering emulsifiers to prepare emulsions loaded with self-healing agent and photo-curable monomer. Upon exposure to UV light, the photo-curable monomer underwent photo-crosslinking and converted into microcapsules wall. In the meanwhile, the SiO2 spheres encapsulating curing agent were trapped in the microcapsule wall. The dual-chamber microcapsule which loaded the healing agent in its core and curing agent within its shell, was thus prepared. The presence of both the encapsulated healing and curing agent within a single capsule was demonstrated by infrared spectrometry and thermogravimetric analysis. Upon fracture, the healing agent and curing agent are released simultaneously from the dual-chamber microcapsule, which facilitates the interaction of the two agents, and enhances the healing efficiency. Up to 85% healing efficiency of the epoxy resin was achieved in 1 h, which was much higher than that of the traditional double microcapsules self-healing system (65%), demonstrating the excellent self-healing performance of the dual-chamber microcapsules. It has been demonstrated that the coating based on dual-chamber microcapsule presented reliable and outstanding self-healing anti-corrosion efficiency. By changing the species of healing agent, curing agent and wall substances (photo-curable monomer), the as-prepared dual-chamber microcapsules can meet different requirements of versatile self-healing system.

Abstract
Self-healing anticorrosion composite coatings containing isophorone diisocyanate-loaded polyurethane microcapsules were developed, and comprehensive research on prepolymer and microcapsules synthesis, as well as functional composite coatings preparation and characterization, was performed. The influence of the prepolymer type and the concentration of the stabilizing agent used in the synthesis procedure on the properties of the microcapsules was studied in detail. For this purpose, three different prepolymers were prepared from toluene-2,4-diisocyanate (TDI) and either glycerol, 1,4-butanediol, or 1,6-hexanediol, and their chemical properties were investigated. Microcapsules were synthesized from the obtained prepolymers, according to the oil-in-water polymerization method, where 1,6-hexanediol was used as a chain extender, while the concentration of the stabilizing agent in the synthesis procedure was varied. Microcapsules prepared from TDI-glycerol prepolymer, synthesized in the presence of 10 wt% of the stabilizing agent, showed superior chemical, morphological, and thermo-gravimetrical properties; thus, they were incorporated into the coating in the concentration of 20 wt%. The prepared composite coatings demonstrated self-healing and anticorrosion properties, and thus the developed microcapsules show great potential for the incorporation into the composite anticorrosion coatings at critical points where damage can easily occur, providing longer and more efficient anticorrosion protection.

Abstract
Cementitious composites with microencapsulated healing agents are appealing due to the advantages of self-healing. The polymeric shell and polymeric healing agents in microcapsules have been proven effective in self-healing, while these microcapsules decrease the effective elastic properties of cementitious composites before self-healing happens. The reduction of effective elastic properties can be evaluated by micromechanics. The substantial complicacy included in micromechanical models leads to the need of specifying a large number of parameters and inputs. Meanwhile, there are nonlinearities in input–output relationships. Hence, it is a prerequisite to know the sensitivity of the models. A micromechanical model which can evaluate the effective properties of the microcapsule-contained cementitious material is proposed. Subsequently, a quantitative global sensitivity analysis technique, the Extended Fourier Amplitude Sensitivity Test (EFAST), is applied to identify which parameters are required for knowledge improvement to achieve the desired level of confidence in the results. Sensitivity indices for first-order effects are computed. Results show the volume fraction of microcapsules is the most important factor which influences the effective properties of self-healing cementitious composites before self-healing. The influence of interfacial properties cannot be neglected. The research sheds new light on the influence of parameters on microcapsule-contained self-healing composites.

Abstract
To address the life span of materials in the process of daily use, new types of structural nanofibers, fabricated by multifluid electrospinning to encapsulate both epoxy resin and amine curing agent, were embedded into an epoxy matrix to provide it with self-healing ability. The nanofibers, which have a polyacrylonitrile sheath holding two separate cores, had an average diameter of 300 ± 140 nm with a uniform size distribution. The prepared fibers had a linear morphology with a clear three-chamber inner structure, as verified by scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope images. The two core sections were composed of epoxy and amine curing agents, respectively, as demonstrated under the synergistic characterization of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry. The TGA results disclosed that the core-shell nanofibers contained 9.06% triethylenetetramine and 20.71% cured epoxy. In the electrochemical corrosion experiment, self-healing coatings exhibited an effective anti-corrosion effect, unlike the composite without nanofibers. This complex nanostructure was proven to be an effective nanoreactor, which is useful to encapsulate reactive fluids. This engineering process by multiple-fluid electrospinning is the first time to prove that this special multiple-chamber structure has great potential in the field of self-healing.

Abstract
Owing to the diverse composition, adjustable performance, and synergistic effect among components, core–shell micro/nanoparticles have been widely applied in the field of tribology in recent years. The strong combination with the matrix and the good dispersion of reinforcing fillers in the composites could be achieved through the design of core–shell structural particles based on the reinforcing fillers. In addition, the performance of chemical mechanical polishing could be improved by optimizing the shell material coated on the abrasive surface. The physical and chemical state of the core–shell micro/nanoparticles played important effects on the friction and wear properties of materials. In this paper, the synthesis methods, the tribological applications (acted as solid/liquid lubricant additive, chemical mechanical polishing abrasives and basic units of lubricant matrix), and the functionary mechanisms of core–shell micro/nanoparticles were systematically reviewed, and the future development of core–shell micro/nanoparticles in tribology was also prospected.

Abstract
Polyurea microcapsules with Ethylenediamine (EDA) as the core material were synthesized. A set of characterization methods, including optical and scanning electron microscopy (OM and SEM), the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to confirm the microcapsule morphology and chemical structures. The influence of emulsifier content and stirring rate on size and morphology of the microcapsules was investigated, and the self-healing performance of EDA-Polyurea microcapsule/epoxy coatings was evaluated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The results showed that the microcapsules obtained had good spherical shape with a mean diameter of 0.54–0.70 μm. Compared with pure core material, the microcapsule showed excellent thermostability, and the content of core materials was up to 56.00 wt%. The epoxy coating with 5.0 wt% EDA-Polyurea microcapsules achieved average corrosion resistance efficiencies of 90.00%, significantly enhancing the capability of the scratched coating to resist external corrosion.
