Polyaniline Nanotubes/Carbon Cloth Composite Electrode by Thermal Acid Doping for High-Performance Supercapacitors

One-Step Electrodeposition of Polyaniline Nanorods on Carbon Cloth for High-Performance Flexible Supercapacitors

The electrochemical performance of the carbon cloth (CC)-based electrodes is determined by the kind, content, morphology, and size of the modified pseudocapacitive materials, as well as the interaction with CC. Also, such structural parameters were mainly dependent on the deposition condition. More uniform polyaniline (PANI) could be obtained by electrochemical polymerization in comparison to chemical oxidation polymerization. However, two steps of electrodeposition were usually needed for nucleation and growth. Here, based on the comprehensive optimization of the electrodeposition condition, well-defined PANI nanorods anchored on the functionalized carbon cloth (FCC) as flexible electrodes (FCC@PANI) were synthesized by a facile one-step electrochemical polymerization. Compared with the FCC electrode, the resultant FCC@PANI-4 sample possessed good cycling stability (98.3% capacitance retention after 10,000 cycles), higher specific capacitances of 2312 mF cm-2 (1.0 mA cm-2) and 107 F g-1 (1.0 A g-1) with the boosting ratio in the areal specific capacitance (CA), and mass specific capacitances (Cm) of 169 and 181%, respectively. The improvement in both specific capacitance and cycling stability was obtained by the strong interaction between the FCC and the modified PANI nanorods with enhanced utilization efficiency of electroactive materials. Furthermore, the symmetric solid-state device assembled using the FCC@PANI-4 electrode delivered a maximum energy density of 0.079 mWh cm-2 at a power density of 0.363 mW cm-2.

Ag(e)ing and Degradation of Supercapacitors: Causes, Mechanisms, Models and Countermeasures

The most prominent and highly visible advantage attributed to supercapacitors of any type and application, beyond their most notable feature of high current capability, is their high stability in terms of lifetime, number of possible charge/discharge cycles or other stability-related properties. Unfortunately, actual devices show more or less pronounced deterioration of performance parameters during time and use. Causes for this in the material and component levels, as well as on the device level, have only been addressed and discussed infrequently in published reports. The present review attempts a complete coverage on these levels; it adds in modelling approaches and provides suggestions for slowing down ag(e)ing and degradation.

Preparations, Properties, and Applications of Polyaniline and Polyaniline Thin Films-A Review

Polyaniline (PANI) is a famous conductive polymer, and it has received tremendous consideration from researchers in the field of nanotechnology for the improvement of sensors, optoelectronic devices, and photonic devices. PANI is doped easily by different acids and dopants because of its easy synthesis and remarkable environmental stability. This review focuses on different preparation processes of PANI thin film by chemical and physical methods. Several features of PANI thin films, such as their magnetic, redox, and antioxidant, anti-corrosion, and electrical and sensing properties, are discussed in this review. PANI is a highly conductive polymer. Given its unique properties, easy synthesis, low cost, and high environmental stability in various applications such as electronics, drugs, and anti-corrosion materials, it has attracted extensive attention. The most important PANI applications are briefly reviewed at the end of this review.

3D Polyaniline Nanofibers Anchored on Carbon Paper for High-Performance and Light-Weight Supercapacitors

In the field of advanced energy storage, nanostructured Polyaniline (PANI) based materials hold a special place. Extensive studies have been done on the application of PANI in supercapacitors, however, the structure–property relationship of these materials is still not understood. This paper presents a detailed characterization of the novel sodium phytate doped 3D PANI nanofibers anchored on different types of carbon paper for application in supercapacitors. An excellent relationship between the structures and properties of the synthesized samples was found. Remarkable energy storage characteristics with low values of solution, charge transfer and polarization resistance and a specific capacitance of 1106.9 ± 1.5 F g⁻¹ and 779 ± 2.6 F g⁻¹ at current density 0.5 and 10 Ag⁻¹, respectively, was achieved at optimized conditions. The symmetric supercapacitor assembly showed significant enhancement in both energy density and power density. It delivered an energy density of 95 Wh kg⁻¹ at a power of 846 W kg⁻¹. At a high-power density of 16.9 kW kg⁻¹, the energy density can still be kept at 13 Wh kg⁻¹. Cyclic stability was also checked for 1000 cycles at a current density of 10 Ag⁻¹ having excellent retention, i.e., 96%.

High-Conductivity, Flexible and Transparent PEDOT:PSS Electrodes for High Performance Semi-Transparent Supercapacitors

Herein, we report a flexible high-conductivity transparent electrode (denoted as S-PH1000), based on conducting polymer poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS), and itsapplication to flexible semi-transparentsupercapacitors. A high conductivity of 2673 S/cm was achieved for the S-PH1000 electrode on flexible plastic substrates via a H₂SO₄ treatment with an optimized concentration of 80 wt.%. This is among the top electrical conductivities of PEDOT:PSS films processed on flexible substrates. As for the electrochemical properties,a high specific capacitance of 161F/g was obtained from the S-PH1000 electrode at a current density of 1 A/g. Excitingly, a specific capacitance of 121 F/g was retained even when the current density increased to 100 A/g, which demonstrates the high-rate property of this electrode. Flexible semi-transparent supercapacitors based on these electrodes demonstrate high transparency, over 60%, at 550 nm. A high power density value, over 19,200 W/kg,and energy density, over 3.40 Wh/kg, was achieved. The semi-transparent flexible supercapacitor was successfully applied topower a light-emitting diode.
