Abstract
Many hydro-metallurgical methods are developed to recover vanadium, while ammonium salt precipitation possesses the final step and it has threatened the environment. The key point is to find a new compound to replace ammonium salts without reducing vanadium recovery efficiency. Some compounds with -NH2 function groups have attracted our attention as they have similar function groups with ammonium salts. In this paper, the adsorption of vanadium with melamine is conducted. The results show that high adsorption efficiency can be achieved in a short time and melamine displays great performance in the recovery of all concentrations of vanadium. Response surface methodology (RSM) is used to optimize the reaction conditions and order the parameters: reaction temperature > concentration of vanadium > dosage of melamine > reaction time. 99.63% vanadium is adsorbed under optimized conditions: n(melamine)/n(V) = 0.6, reaction time of 60 min, 10 g/L vanadium solution and reaction temperature of 60°C. The successful application of melamine in the recovery of vanadium provides a new way for the utilization of melamine and also a glorious future for -NH2 compounds in the recovery heavy metals.

Abstract
CONTEXT Depletion of natural resources, responsible for energy production, is a serious concern for researchers to develop alternate energy resources or materials. Scientists have proposed various energy materials which are based on semiconductors and their underlying physics. Cerium oxide (CeO2) is a versatile energy material which receives much attention owing to excellent photocatalytic, photonic, thermal stability, and optoelectronic applications. Even though CeO2 exhibited remarkable physical properties, but yet, they can be enhanced upon suitable doping. Focus on current research is to dope group V elements into CeO2 in order to enhance its electronic and optical response. The density of states (DOS) and band gaps of proposed materials are calculated, and significant improvement is noted after applying TB-mbj method. Optical absorption spectra of V/Nb/Ta-doped CeO2 show blueshift and decrease in reflectivity along with the presence of magnetism illustrate potential uses of these materials in future UV optoelectronics, spintronics, sensing, and energy harvesting devices. METHODS This research is based on computational work carried using Wien2k code where PBE-GGA approximation is used to approximate exchange and correlation potentials. Supercells of vanadium/niobium/tantalum-doped CeO2 are constructed, and spin-polarized density of states (DOS) along with optical constant are calculated. TB-mbj method is used to bring improvements in DOS and band gaps of proposed materials. Iterations are conducted using convergence criterion, and non-relativistic calculations are performed.

Abstract
The monoclinic structures of vanadium dioxide are widely studied as appealing systems due to a plethora of functional properties in several technological fields. In particular, the possibility to obtain the VO2 material in the form of thin film with a high control of structure and morphology represents a key issue for their use in THz devices and sensors. Herein, a fine control of the crystal habit has been addressed through an in-depth study of the metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) synthetic approach. The focus is devoted to the key operative parameters such as deposition temperature inside the reactor in order to stabilize the P21/c or the C2/m monoclinic VO2 structures. Furthermore, the compositional purity, the morphology and the thickness of the VO2 films have been assessed through energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analyses and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), respectively. THz time domain spectroscopy is used to validate at very high frequency the functional properties of the as-prepared VO2 films.

Abstract
A polyphasic taxonomic study was carried out on a Gram-stain-negative and rod-shaped strain, ER-Te-42B-LightT, isolated from the tissue of a tube worm, Riftia pachyptila, collected near a deep-sea hydrothermal vent of the Juan de Fuca Ridge in the Pacific Ocean. This bacterium was capable of performing anaerobic respiration using tellurite, tellurate, selenite and orthovanadate as terminal electron acceptors. While facultatively anaerobic, it could aerobically resist tellurite, selenite and orthovanadate up to 2000, 7000 and 10000 µg ml-1, respectively, reducing each oxide to elemental forms. Nearly complete 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity related the strain to Shewanella, with 98.8 and 98.7 % similarity to Shewanella basaltis and Shewanella algicola, respectively. The dominant fatty acids were C16 : 0 and C16 : 1. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and phosphatidylglycerol and MK-7 was the predominant quinone. DNA G+C content was 42.5 mol%. Computation of average nucleotide identity and digital DNA-DNA hybridization values with the closest phylogenetic neighbours of ER-Te-42B-LightT revealed genetic divergence at the species level, which was further substantiated by differences in several physiological characteristics. Based on the obtained results, this bacterium was assigned to the genus Shewanella as a new species with the name Shewanella metallivivens sp. nov., type strain ER-Te-42B-LightT (=VKM B-3580T=DSM 113370T).

Abstract
Integration of graphene into various electronic devices requires an ultrathin oxide layer on top of graphene. However, direct thin film growth of oxide on graphene is not evident because of the low surface energy of graphene promoting three-dimensional island growth. In this study, we demonstrate the growth of ultrathin vanadium oxide films on a highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG) surface, which mimics the graphene surface, using (oxygen-assisted) molecular beam epitaxy, followed by a post-annealing. The structural properties, surface morphology, and chemical composition of the films have been systematically investigated by in situ reflection high-energy electron diffraction during the growth and by ex situ techniques, such as atomic force microscopy, scanning tunneling microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Crystalline monolayer vanadium oxide can be achieved on HOPG by systematically tuning the deposition time of V atoms and by subsequent annealing at 450 °C in controlled atmospheres. Increasing the partial pressure of O2 during the deposition seems to decrease the mobility of V atoms on the graphitic surface of HOPG and promote the formation of a two-dimensional (2D) vanadium oxide. The obtained oxide layers are found to be polycrystalline with an average grain size of 15 nm and to have a mixed-valence state with mainly V5+ and V4+. Moreover, XPS valence band measurements indicate that the vanadium oxide is insulating. These results demonstrate that a 2D insulating vanadium oxide can be grown directly on HOPG and suggest vanadium oxide as a promising candidate for graphene/oxide heterostructures.

Abstract
Photochemical vapor generation (PVG) is emerging as an alternative sample introduction method in the field of atomic spectrometry. The addition of transition metals can largely improve the PVG yields of elements with the enhancement of 1.4 to 30 000-fold, based on previous reports. In this work, the use of vanadium species as novel "sensitizers" in PVG was first reported, tellurium (Te) was selected as the target. The efficient photochemical reduction of Te was observed in the presence of 9% (v/v) formic acid (FA), 20%(v/v) acetic acid (AA), and 40 mg L-1 of V(V) (existing as VO3-) with the conversion efficiency of 87 ± 3%. Under the selected conditions, there was no significant difference in analytical sensitivity between Te(IV) and Te(VI), making the direct detection of total Te possible. The limit of detection (LOD, 3σ) was 2.9 ng L-1 for Te with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP MS) measurement. Good precisions of 2.3% and 2.2% (relative standard deviations, RSD) for seven times replicate measurement of 0.5 μg L-1 Te(IV) and Te(VI) standard solutions were obtained. The sensitivity was enhanced about 55-fold compared to that using traditional direct solution nebulization. The method was applied for the determination of trace Te in three water samples and two certified reference materials of sediment with satisfactory results. The possible mechanism was investigated. The generation of volatile vanadium along with (CH3)2Te was found in PVG for the first time. The new findings in this work will be helpful for exploration of efficient "sensitizers" in PVG and further expanding the scope of elements amenable to PVG as well.

Abstract
The paper describes hydrometallurgical methods to recycle wastes of vanadium pentoxide chemical fabrication. Sludges containing a significant amount of V2O5 can be considered as an additional source of raw materials for vanadium production. We studied the one-stage leaching method using various iron-based reductants for converting V5+ to V4+ in a solution allowing to precipitate V when its concentration in the solution is low. As a result of the reduction leaching with further precipitation, we obtained concentrates with V2O5 content of 22–26% and a high amount of harmful impurities. Multistage counterflow leaching can be used to fabricate solutions with vanadium pentoxide concentration suitable for vanadium precipitation by hydrolysis and adding ammonium salts. The solutions with V2O5 content of ≈15 g/L can be obtained from the initial sludge by three-stage counterflow vanadium leaching. A concentrate with a content of 78 wt% V2O5 can be precipitated from these solutions at pH = 2.4 by adding ammonium chloride. Additionally, concentrate with V2O5 content of ≈94 wt% was precipitated from the solution with a concentration of >20 g/L V2O5 obtained from the roasted sludge. The concentrates were purified for increasing the vanadium content to 5–7%. The consumption and technological parameters of the considered processes are presented in the paper.
