Shear Elasticity of Magnetic Gels with Internal Structures

Analysis of the Electrical and Thermal Properties for Magnetic Fe3O4-Coated SiC-Filled Epoxy Composites

Orderly arranged Silicon carbide (SiC)/epoxy (EP) composites were fabricated. SiC was made magnetically responsive by decorating the surface with iron oxide (Fe₃O₄) nanoparticles. Three treatment methods, including without magnetization, pre-magnetization and curing magnetization, were used to prepare SiC/EP composites with different filler distributions. Compared with unmodified SiC, magnetic SiC with core-shell structure was conducive to improve the breakdown strength of SiC/EP composites and the maximum enhancement rate was 20.86%. Among the three treatment methods, SiC/EP composites prepared in the curing-magnetization case had better comprehensive properties. Under the action of magnetic field, magnetic SiC were orderly oriented along the direction of an external field, thereby forming SiC chains. The magnetic alignment of SiC restricted the movement of EP macromolecules or polar groups to some extent, resulting in the decrease in the dielectric constant and dielectric loss. The SiC chains are equivalent to heat flow channels, which can improve the heat transfer efficiency, and the maximum improvement rate was 23.6%. The results prove that the orderly arrangement of SiC had a favorable effect on dielectric properties and thermal conductivity of SiC/EP composites. For future applications, the orderly arranged SiC/EP composites have potential for fabricating insulation materials in the power electronic device packaging field.

Internal structures and mechanical properties of magnetic gels and suspensions

We present results of theoretical and computer study of linear chain-like and complicated labyrinth structures in magnetic gels and suspensions as well as effect of these internal structures on macroscopic elastic properties of the composites. Our results show that at a certain threshold deformation, the structures experience a rupture which provokes a fall down of the macroscopic elastic stress, induced by the deformation. This effect is detected for both shear and tensile deformations. The results of calculations are compared with experimental data’s.

Review on the advancements of magnetic gels: towards multifunctional magnetic liposome-hydrogel composites for biomedical applications

Magnetic gels have been gaining great attention in nanomedicine, as they combine features of hydrogels and magnetic nanoparticles into a single system. The incorporation of liposomes in magnetic gels further leads to a more robust multifunctional system enabling more functions and spatiotemporal control required for biomedical applications, which includes on-demand drug release. In this review, magnetic gels components are initially introduced, as well as an overview of advancements on the development, tuneability, manipulation and application of these materials. After a discussion of the advantages of combining hydrogels with liposomes, the properties, fabrication strategies and applications of magnetic liposome-hydrogel composites (magnetic lipogels or magnetolipogels) are reviewed. Overall, the progress of magnetic gels towards smart multifunctional materials are emphasized, considering the contributions for future developments.

Application of New Sodium Vinyl Sulfonate⁻co-2-Acrylamido-2-me[thylpropane Sulfonic Acid Sodium Salt-Magnetite Cryogel Nanocomposites for Fast Methylene Blue Removal from Industrial Waste Water

Inorganic nanoparticles based on magnetite were used to improve the mechanical, thermal, and magnetic properties of microporous cryogel polymer composites. Here we report the synthesis of microporous cryogel based on the crosslinked sodium vinyl sulfonate (Na-VS) and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid sodium salt (Na-AMPS). The magnetite nanoparticles were incorporated into Na-VS/Na-AMPS cryogel networks either during its crosslinking polymerization or by the in-situ technique after its crosslinking. The morphology, particle sizes, thermal stability, and magnetite contents of Na-VS/Na-AMPS cryogel and its magnetite composite were investigated. The prepared Na-VS/Na-AMPS cryogel and its magnetite composite were used as adsorbents for methylene blue (MB) cationic dye using optimum conditions. The magnetite Na-VS/Na-AMPS cryogel composite prepared by in-situ technique achieved the best adsorption MB removal capacity for 7 cycles among the other adsorbents via chemical adsorption mechanism at room temperature.
