Trusted Operation of Cyber-Physical Processes Based on Assessment of the System's State and Operating Mode

We consider the trusted operation of cyber-physical processes based on an assessment of the system's state and operating mode and present a method for detecting anomalies in the behavior of a cyber-physical system (CPS) based on the analysis of the data transmitted by its sensory subsystem. Probability theory and mathematical statistics are used to process and normalize the data in order to determine whether or not the system is in the correct operating mode and control process state. To describe the mode-specific control processes of a CPS, the paradigm of using cyber-physical parameters is taken as a basis, as it is the feature that most clearly reflects the system's interaction with physical processes. In this study, two metrics were taken as a sign of an anomaly: the probability of falling into the sensor values' confidence interval and parameter change monitoring. These two metrics, as well as the current mode evaluation, produce a final probability function for our trust in the CPS's currently executing control process, which is, in turn, determined by the operating mode of the system. Based on the results of this trust assessment, it is possible to draw a conclusion about the processing state in which the system is operating. If the score is higher than 0.6, it means the system is in a trusted state. If the score is equal to 0.6, it means the system is in an uncertain state. If the trust score tends towards zero, then the system can be interpreted as unstable or under stress due to a system failure or deliberate attack. Through a case study using cyber-attack data for an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), it was found that the method works well. When we were evaluating the normal flight mode, there were no false positive anomaly estimates. When we were evaluating the UAV's state during an attack, a deviation and an untrusted state were detected. This method can be used to implement software solutions aimed at detecting system faults and cyber-attacks, and thus make decisions about the presence of malfunctions in the operation of a CPS, thereby minimizing the amount of knowledge and initial data about the system.

Digital Twins in Industry 5.0

This work aims to explore the impact of Digital Twins Technology on industrial manufacturing in the context of Industry 5.0. A computer is used to search the Web of Science database to summarize the Digital Twins in Industry 5.0. First, the background and system architecture of Industry 5.0 are introduced. Then, the potential applications and key modeling technologies in Industry 5.0 are discussd. It is found that equipment is the infrastructure of industrial scenarios, and the embedded intelligent upgrade for equipment is a Digital Twins primary condition. At the same time, Digital Twins can provide automated real-time process analysis between connected machines and data sources, speeding up error detection and correction. In addition, Digital Twins can bring obvious efficiency improvements and cost reductions to industrial manufacturing. Digital Twins reflects its potential application value and subsequent potential value in Industry 5.0 through the prospect. It is hoped that this relatively systematic overview can provide technical reference for the intelligent development of industrial manufacturing and the improvement of the efficiency of the entire business process in the Industrial X.0 era.

UAV and IoT-Based Systems for the Monitoring of Industrial Facilities Using Digital Twins: Methodology, Reliability Models, and Application

This paper suggests a methodology (conception and principles) for building two-mode monitoring systems (SMs) for industrial facilities and their adjacent territories based on the application of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), Internet of Things (IoT), and digital twin (DT) technologies, and a set of SM reliability models considering the parameters of the channels and components. The concept of building a reliable and resilient SM is proposed. For this purpose, the von Neumann paradigm for the synthesis of reliable systems from unreliable components is developed. For complex SMs of industrial facilities, the concept covers the application of various types of redundancy (structural, version, time, and space) for basic components-sensors, means of communication, processing, and presentation-in the form of DTs for decision support systems. The research results include: the methodology for the building and general structures of UAV-, IoT-, and DT-based SMs in industrial facilities as multi-level systems; reliability models for SMs considering the applied technologies and operation modes (normal and emergency); and industrial cases of SMs for manufacture and nuclear power plants. The results obtained are the basis for further development of the theory and for practical applications of SMs in industrial facilities within the framework of the implementation and improvement of Industry 4.0 principles.

Smart Manufacturing and Digitalization of Metrology: A Systematic Literature Review and a Research Agenda

Smart manufacturing comprises fully integrated manufacturing systems that respond in real time to meet the changing demands and conditions in industrial activities, supply networks and customer needs. A smart manufacturing environment will face new challenges, including those concerning metrological issues, i.e., analysis of large quantities of data; communication systems for digitalization; measurement standards for automated process control; digital transformation of metrological services; and simulations and virtual measurement processes for the automatic assessment of measured data. Based on the assumption that the interplay between smart manufacturing and digitalization of metrology is an emerging research field, this paper aims to present a systematic literature review (SLR) based on a bibliographic data collection of 160 scientific articles retrieved from the Web of Science and Scopus databases over the 2016-2022 time frame. The findings presented in this review and recommendations for building a research agenda can help policy makers, researchers and practitioners by providing directions for the evolution of digital metrology and its role in the digitalization of the economy and society.
