Technology-Based Mental Health Interventions for Domestic Violence Victims Amid COVID-19

INTRODUCTION

Domestic violence is a threat to human dignity and public health. Mounting evidence shows that domestic violence erodes personal and public health, spawning issues such as lifelong mental health challenges. To further compound the situation, COVID-19 and societies' poor response to the pandemic have not only worsened the domestic violence crisis but also disrupted mental health services for domestic violence victims. While technology-based health solutions can overcome physical constraints posed by the pandemic and offer timely support to address domestic violence victims' mental health issues, there is a dearth of research in the literature. To bridge the research gap, in this study, we aim to examine technology-based mental health solutions for domestic violence victims amid COVID-19.

METHODS

A literature review was conducted to examine solutions that domestic violence victims can utilize to safeguard and improve their mental health amid COVID-19. Databases including PubMed, PsycINFO, and Scopus were utilized for the literature search. The search was focused on four themes: domestic violence, mental health, technology-based interventions, and COVID-19. A reverse search of pertinent references was conducted in Google Scholar. The social ecological model was utilized to systematically structure the review findings.

RESULTS

The findings show that a wide array of technology-based solutions has been proposed to address mental health challenges faced by domestic violence victims amid COVID-19. However, none of these proposals is based on empirical evidence amid COVID-19. In terms of social and ecological levels of influence, most of the interventions were developed on the individual level, as opposed to the community level or social level, effectively placing the healthcare responsibility on the victims rather than government and health officials. Furthermore, most of the articles failed to address risks associated with utilizing technology-based interventions (e.g., privacy issues) or navigating the online environment (e.g., cyberstalking).

CONCLUSION

Overall, our findings highlight the need for greater research endeavors on the research topic. Although technology-based interventions have great potential in resolving domestic violence victims' mental health issues, risks associated with these health solutions should be comprehensively acknowledged and addressed.

User concerns regarding information sharing on social networking sites: The user's perspective in the context of national culture

Information sharing via social networking systems (SNS) is a common practice among academics, as well as others, that brings substantial benefits. At the same time, privacy concerns are widespread among SNS users, which may tend to inhibit their maximising the benefit from using the systems. This paper investigates the proposition that SNS user attitudes and behaviour are affected by privacy concerns, and that the effects are subject to significant cultural factors. A broad assessment of the literature provides the context for the study. Working in the context of Saudi Arabia, we apply a mixed-methods approach beginning with in-depth interviews, exposing in detail a range of views and concerns about privacy and SNS use, also allowing us to identify three key factors that bear on SNS usage and users’ concerns. Analysis of these factors in the light of the “theory of reasoned action” derives a structural model predicting several hypotheses relating the factors and users’ attitudes and behaviour. We assess the model through development of a questionnaire, administered to a large pool of academic participants, that allows us to examine how the model responds in general, and via multigroup partial least squares analyses, differentially to gender and to culturally distinct (Arab vs. non-Arab) constituents of the participant group. Results show good support for the hypotheses and clear gender and culture effects. Picking up issues from the interviews, discussion focuses on users’ views about SNS providers’ privacy policies and their inadequacy regarding culturally specific ethical concerns. We argue that these views may reflect different regulatory environments in combination with other cultural factors.

Elaboration of Social Media Performance Measures: From the Perspective of Social Media Discontinuance Behavior

Social media platforms insist on the so-called “number of visits, clicking, and subscription” as a measurement of social media performance. However, this method of measurement does not take into account dormant user accounts and unintentional clicks or visits. To fully understand social media performance, this study aims to examine the process of users’ discontinuance behavior from the view of technostress creators and socialstress creators through social media fatigue. Also, this study investigates the influence of involvement between social media fatigue and discontinuance behaviors. To understand the impact of technostress and social stress creators on users’ discontinuance behavior, this study conducted an off- and online survey in Korea. Using Confirmatory factory analysis (CFA), this study has a strong academic contribution because it identifies the existing methods measuring social media performance through numbers of accounts or joining in as inaccurate.

A Research on the Combination of Oblique Photography and Mobile Applications Based on the Sustainable Development of Tourism

Tourism is one of the world’s fastest driving forces of economic development, playing an important role in achieving sustainable development goals. In modern society, mobile social media is a communication and decision-making platform for users and a source of big data information about travel. Obtaining and analyzing travel data can provide customer-oriented information about travel destinations and comprehensive services for both tourism operators and tourists. It has a positive impact on the sustainable development of society, economy, environment, and humanities. Starting with theoretical analysis and empirical research, this study combines social media and oblique photography, conducts a case study of the Pingtan comprehensive experimental area in China, and develops an app about online travelling to provide corresponding information for consumers’ decisions. This study also discusses the potential value of the app, i.e., assisting the development of smart travel in city, achieving sustainable development of tourism, and contributing to tourism globally.

Detecting the Influencer on Social Networks Using Passion Point and Measures of Information Propagation †

Influencer marketing is a modern method that uses influential users to approach goal customers easily and quickly. An online social network is a useful platform to detect the most effective influencer for a brand. Thus, we have an issue: how can we extract user data to determine an influencer? In this paper, a model for representing a social network based on users, tags, and the relationships among them, called the SNet model, is presented. A graph-based approach for computing the impact of users and the speed of information propagation, and measuring the favorite brand of a user and sharing the similar brand characteristics, called a passion point, is proposed. Therefore, we consider two main influential measures, including the extent of the influence on other people by the relationships between users and the concern to user’s tags, and the tag propagation through social pulse on the social network. Based on these, the problem of determining the influencer of a specific brand on a social network is solved. The results of this method are used to run the influencer marketing strategy in practice and have obtained positive results.
