Modeling a sustainable vaccine supply chain for a healthcare system

This study develops a vaccine supply chain (VSC) to ensure sustainable distribution during a global crisis in a developing economy. In this study, a multi-objective mixed-integer programming (MIP) model is formulated to develop the VSC, ensuring the entire network's economic performance. This is achieved by minimizing the overall cost of vaccine distribution and ensuring environmental and social sustainability by minimizing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and maximizing job opportunities in the entire network. The shelf-life of vaccines and the uncertainty associated with demand and supply chain (SC) parameters are also considered in this study to ensure the robustness of the model. To solve the model, two recently developed metaheuristics-namely, the multi-objective social engineering optimizer (MOSEO) and multi-objective feasibility enhanced particle swarm optimization (MOFEPSO) methods-are used, and their results are compared. Further, the Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) model has been integrated into the optimization model to determine the best solution from a set of non-dominated solutions (NDSs) that prioritize environmental sustainability. The results are analyzed in the context of the Bangladeshi coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine distribution systems. Numerical illustrations reveal that the MOSEO-TOPSIS model performs substantially better in designing the network than the MOFEPSO-TOPSIS model. Furthermore, the solution from MOSEO results in achieving better environmental sustainability than MOFEPSO with the same resources. Results also reflect that the proposed MOSEO-TOPSIS can help policymakers establish a VSC during a global crisis with enhanced economic, environmental, and social sustainability within the healthcare system.

Bibliometric Analysis of Post Covid-19 Management Strategies and Policies in Hospitality and Tourism

The strategic perspective of management policies gained utmost importance during the post-Covid era. The researchers are trying to introduce strategies that can help organizations cope with post-crisis destruction. Yet, the research on the topic is fragmented, mainly related to the hospitality and tourism industry. This manuscript aims to present scholarly research findings dealing with the post-Covid-19 management strategies in the hospitality and tourism industry from January 1, 2020, to July 28, 2021. These strategies can play an essential role in the survival and growth of the sectors. The study identified and acknowledged the core contributing authors, journals, countries, affiliation, corresponding authors through bibliometric, citation, and keyword analysis. It also conducted the co-occurrence analysis and reported three significant research streams and bibliometric coupling to identify four research themes for management strategies of the tourism and hospitality industry in the post-Covid era. With the help of an influential and conceptual framework, the study highlights the future challenges managers could face and suggests the possible area for reviewing and revising the existing policies by proposing future directions. Consequently, this study contributes to the current literature on post-Covid-19 management strategies and policies by developing the critical analysis of the extant literature and highlighting the understudy areas that future studies must explore to expand the scope of the research.

An integrated sustainable medical supply chain network during COVID-19

Nowadays, in the pharmaceutical industry, a growing concern with sustainability has become a strict consideration during the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a lack of good mathematical models in the field. In this research, a production-distribution-inventory-allocation-location problem in the sustainable medical supply chain network is designed to fill this gap. Also, the distribution of medicines related to COVID-19 patients and the periods of production and delivery of medicine according to the perishability of some medicines are considered. In the model, a multi-objective, multi-level, multi-product, and multi-period problem for a sustainable medical supply chain network is designed. Three hybrid meta-heuristic algorithms, namely, ant colony optimization, fish swarm algorithm, and firefly algorithm are suggested, hybridized with variable neighborhood search to solve the sustainable medical supply chain network model. Response surface method is used to tune the parameters since meta-heuristic algorithms are sensitive to input parameters. Six assessment metrics were used to assess the quality of the obtained Pareto frontier by the meta-heuristic algorithms on the considered problems. A real case study is used and empirical results indicate the superiority of the hybrid fish swarm algorithm with variable neighborhood search.

Sustainability in Overtouristified Cities? A Social Media Insight into Italian Branding Responses to Covid-19 Crisis

The paper aims to reach insights into city branding in the Covid-19 context to discuss the projected brand propositions and their reliance oan sustainable brand attributes and values. This study explores the immediate response of overtouristified cities to the post-pandemic crisis by focusing on four iconic cultural cities in Italy, which are Florence, Milan, Rome, and Venice, and the related Facebook communication in summer 2020, right after the end of the lockdown following the first wave of contagion in the country. A content analysis of the official Facebook accounts of these cities provided an explorative insight into different destination brand approaches to dealing with the pandemic threat, revealed fading urban characters of the tourism experience and an expansion of the destinations from a spatial perspective, towards city-region destinations. The findings suggest potential configurations of the sustainable destination brand whose formation, in the case of the overtouristified cities, deserves further attention throughout the evolution of the Covid-19 crisis.
