Abstract
An in vivo model is necessary for toxicology. This review analyzed the uses of zebrafish (Danio rerio) in toxicology based on bibliometrics. Totally 56,816 publications about zebrafish from 2002 to 2023 were found in Web of Science Core Collection, with Toxicology as the top 6 among all disciplines. Accordingly, the bibliometric map reveals that "toxicity" has become a hot keyword. It further reveals that the most common exposure types include acute, chronic, and combined exposure. The toxicological effects include behavioral, intestinal, cardiovascular, hepatic, endocrine toxicity, neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, genotoxicity, and reproductive and transgenerational toxicity. The mechanisms include oxidative stress, inflammation, autophagy, and dysbiosis of gut microbiota. The toxicants commonly evaluated by using zebrafish model include nanomaterials, arsenic, metals, bisphenol, and dioxin. Overall, zebrafish provide a unique and well-accepted model to investigate the toxicological effects and mechanisms. We also discussed the possible ways to address some of the limitations of zebrafish model, such as the combination of human organoids to avoid species differences.

Abstract
2-Amino-3-methylimidazole[4,5-f]quinoline (IQ), one of heterocyclic amines (HCAs) produced in proteinaceous foods upon heating, is recognized as a carcinogen. Previous studies have confirmed that IQ intake can cause liver damage in zebrafish. In the current study, we revealed the protective effects of coffee against IQ-induced liver damage. We exposed one-month-old wild-type zebrafish to IQ (80 ng/mL) and coffee at 50 mg/L, 100 mg/L, and 300 mg/L for 35 days. Markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS), autophagy, and apoptosis in the liver were assessed to explore the potential mechanisms of the protective effects. The results showed that coffee effectively improved IQ-induced liver damage by reducing ALT, AST, TC, TG, and LDL-C levels, increasing HDL-C level, and restoring hepatic morphology. Moreover, coffee showed an antioxidative effect by increasing GSH, GSH-Px, GST, CAT, and SOD levels and attenuating ROS and MDA contents. Additionally, coffee reduced the NO, iNOS, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β, and IL-12 expression levels, presenting an anti-inflammatory effect. Furthermore, coffee protected against ERS, autophagy dysfunction, and apoptosis by decreasing the GRP78, CHOP, and p62 while increasing the Atg5-Atg12, Beclin1, LC3-II, and Bcl-2 expression levels. TUNEL results showed that coffee rescued IQ-induced hepatocyte apoptosis. In addition, coffee interrupted the MAPK/NF-κB signaling pathway by suppressing the phosphorylation expressions of JNK, ERK, p38, p65, and IκB. These findings indicated that coffee prevents IQ-induced liver damage with antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, anti-ERS, anti-apoptotic, and pro-autophagic effects, thus to serve as a functional beverage with potential health benefits.

Abstract
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) controls many biological functions besides maintaining the function of liver cells. Various studies reported the role of the ER stress and UPR signaling pathway in various liver diseases via triggering hepatocytes apoptosis. This study aims to investigate the suppressive effect of β-sitosterol (βS) on apoptosis associated with liver injury and ER stress. METHODS Liver damage in rats was induced by TAA (150 mg/kg I.P twice a week/3 weeks) and γ-irradiation (single dose 3.5 Gy) and treated with βS (20 mg/kg daily for 30 days). Serum aminotransferase activity, lipid profile and lipid metabolic factors were measured beside liver oxidative stress and inflammatory markers. Moreover, the hepatic expression of ER stress markers (inositol-requiring enzyme 1 alpha (IRE1α), X-box-binding protein 1 (XBP1) and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) and apoptotic markers were detected together with histopathological examination. RESULTS βS diminished the aminotransferase activity, the oxidative stress markers as well as the inflammatory mediators. Furthermore, βS lowered the circulating TG and TC and the hepatic lipotoxicity via the suppression of lipogenesis (Srebp-1c) and improved the β-oxidation (Pparα and Cpt1a) together with the mitochondrial biogenesis (Pgc-1 α). Moreover, the upregulated levels of ER stress markers were reduced upon treatment with βS, which consequently attenuated hepatic apoptosis. CONCLUSION βS relieves hepatic injury, ameliorates mitochondrial biogenesis, and reduces lipotoxicity and apoptosis via inhibition of CHOP and ER stress response.

Abstract
Gut microbiota is a complex ecosystem of symbiotic bacteria that contribute to human metabolism and supply intestinal metabolites, whose production is mainly influenced by the diet. Dietary patterns characterized by a high intake of protein promotes the growth of proteolytic bacteria's, which produce metabolites from undigested protein fermentation. Microbioal protein metabolites can regulate immune, metabolic and neuronal responses in different target organs. Metabolic pathways of these compounds and their mechanisms of action on different pathologies can lead to the discovery of new diagnostic techniques, drugs and the potential use as functional ingredients in food. This review discusses the potential mechanisms by which amino acid catabolism is involved in microbial protein metabolites. In addition, results from several studies on the association of products from the intestinal metabolism of indigestible proteins and the state of health or disease of the host are revised.
