Abstract
INTRODUCTION Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly, giving rise to a pandemic, causing significant morbidity and mortality. In this context, many vaccines have emerged to try to deal with this disease. OBJECTIVE To review the reported cases of neurological manifestations after the application of COVID-19 vaccines, describing clinical, analytical and neuroimaging findings and health outcomes. METHODS We carried out a review through bibliographic searches in PubMed. RESULTS We found 86 articles, including 13 809 patients with a wide spectrum of neurological manifestations temporally associated with COVID-19 vaccination. Most occurred in women (63.89%), with a median age of 50 years. The most frequently reported adverse events were Bell's palsy 4936/13 809 (35.7%), headache (4067/13 809), cerebrovascular events 2412/13 809 (17.47%), Guillain-Barré syndrome 868/13 809 (6.28%), central nervous system demyelination 258/13 809 (1.86%) and functional neurological disorder 398/13 809 (2.88%). Most of the published cases occurred in temporal association with the Pfizer vaccine (BNT162b2), followed by the AstraZeneca vaccine (ChAdOX1-S). CONCLUSIONS It is not possible to establish a causal relationship between these adverse events and COVID-19 vaccines with the currently existing data, nor to calculate the frequency of appearance of these disorders. However, it is necessary for health professionals to be familiar with these events, facilitating their early diagnosis and treatment. Large controlled epidemiological studies are necessary to establish a possible causal relationship between vaccination against COVID-19 and neurological adverse events.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Infections and vaccinations have been identified as potential immunological triggers of neuralgic amyotrophy (NA), but the exact type and frequency of the preceding agents is unknown. METHODS This was a multicentre, prospective, observational, matched case-control study. NA was diagnosed by neuromuscular experts according to validated clinical criteria and electrodiagnostic studies. Clinical data and biological samples of NA patients were collected within 90 days from disease onset between June 2018 and December 2023. All NA patients were asked about prior infection and vaccination in the month before disease onset. Serological tests for hepatitis E virus, human immunodeficiency virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, Epstein-Barr virus, cytomegalovirus, parvovirus B19, varicella-zoster virus, Borrelia burgdorferi, Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Bartonella henselae were performed in a central laboratory. Each case was matched with a healthy control for age, sex, place of residence and time of blood collection. RESULTS Fifty-seven patients and corresponding controls were included. The mean age was 45 years for both groups. NA onset was preceded by a symptomatic infectious trigger confirmed by microbiological tests in 15/57 (26.3%) patients. Coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination was considered a potential trigger in 7/57 (12.3%) subjects. An acute viral infection was associated with a bilateral involvement of the brachial plexus (p = 0.003, Cramèr's V = 0.43). CONCLUSIONS Confirmed immune triggers (infection or vaccination) preceded disease onset in 22/57 (38.6%) NA cases. We suggest to test NA patients in the acute phase for intracellular antigens, especially in the case of concomitant bilateral involvement and hepatitis.

Abstract
Despite the fact that the global COVID-19 pandemic has officially ended, we continue to feel its effects and discover new correlations between SARS-CoV-2 infection and changes in the organism that have occurred in patients. It has been shown that the disease can be associated with a variety of complications, including disorders of the nervous system such as a characteristic loss of smell and taste, as well as less commonly reported incidents such as cranial polyneuropathy or neuromuscular disorders. Nervous system diseases that are suspected to be related to COVID-19 include Guillain-Barré syndrome, which is frequently caused by viruses. During the course of the disease, autoimmunity destroys peripheral nerves, which despite its rare occurrence, can lead to serious consequences, such as symmetrical muscle weakness and deep reflexes, or even their complete abolition. Since the beginning of the pandemic, case reports suggesting a relationship between these two disease entities have been published, and in some countries, the increasing number of Guillain-Barré syndrome cases have also been reported. This suggests that previous contact with SARS-CoV-2 may have had an impact on their occurrence. This article is a review and summary of the literature that raises awareness of the neurological symptoms' prevalence, including Guillain-Barré syndrome, which may be impacted by the commonly occurring COVID-19 disease or vaccination against it. The aim of this review was to better understand the mechanisms of the virus's action on the nervous system, allowing for better detection and the prevention of its complications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND COVID-19 vaccines have played a crucial role in reducing the burden of the global pandemic. However, recent case reports have indicated the association of the COVID- 19 vaccines with cardiovascular events but the exact association is unclear so far. OBJECTIVE Therefore, the objective of the current study is to find out the association of cardiovascular events with COVID-19 vaccines. METHODS The COVID-19 Vaccine Knowledge Base (Cov19VaxKB) tool was used to query the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database. The proportional reporting ratio [PRR (≥2)] with associated chi-squared value (>4), and the number of cases > 0.2% of total reports, was used to assess the association of COVID-19 vaccines with cardiovascular events. RESULTS A total of 33,754 cases of cardiovascular events associated with COVID-19 vaccines were found in the Cov19VaxKB tool. The cases were observed in different age groups (18-64, and 65 years and above) and gender. The disproportionality measures indicate a statistically significant association between cardiovascular events and COVID-19 vaccines. CONCLUSION The current study identified a signal of various cardiovascular events with the COVID-19 vaccines. However, further causality assessment is required to confirm the association.

Abstract
Importance Bell palsy (BP) has been reported as an adverse event following the SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, but neither a causative relationship nor a higher prevalence than in the general population has been established. Objective To compare the incidence of BP in SARS-CoV-2 vaccine recipients vs unvaccinated individuals or placebo recipients. Data Sources A systematic search of MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar from the inception of the COVID-19 report (December 2019) to August 15, 2022. Study Selection Articles reporting BP incidence with SARS-CoV-2 vaccination were included. Data Extraction and Synthesis This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guideline and was conducted with the random- and fixed-effect models using the Mantel-Haenszel method. The quality of the studies was evaluated by the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Main Outcomes and Measures The outcomes of interest were to compare BP incidence among (1) SARS-CoV-2 vaccine recipients, (2) nonrecipients in the placebo or unvaccinated cohorts, (3) different types of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, and (4) SARS-CoV-2-infected vs SARS-CoV-2-vaccinated individuals. Results Fifty studies were included, of which 17 entered the quantitative synthesis. Pooling 4 phase 3 randomized clinical trials showed significantly higher BP in recipients of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines (77 525 vaccine recipients vs 66 682 placebo recipients; odds ratio [OR], 3.00; 95% CI, 1.10-8.18; I2 = 0%). There was, however, no significant increase in BP after administration of the messenger RNA SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in pooling 8 observational studies (13 518 026 doses vs 13 510 701 unvaccinated; OR, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.42-1.16; I2 = 94%). No significant difference was found in BP among 22 978 880 first-dose recipients of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine compared with 22 978 880 first-dose recipients of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine (OR, 0.97; 95% CI, 0.82-1.15; I2 = 0%). Bell palsy was significantly more common after SARS-CoV-2 infection (n = 2 822 072) than after SARS-CoV-2 vaccinations (n = 37 912 410) (relative risk, 3.23; 95% CI, 1.57-6.62; I2 = 95%). Conclusions and Relevance This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests a higher incidence of BP among SARS-CoV-2-vaccinated vs placebo groups. The occurrence of BP did not differ significantly between recipients of the Pfizer/BioNTech vs Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccines. SARS-CoV-2 infection posed a significantly greater risk for BP than SARS-CoV-2 vaccination.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Once the COVID-19 pandemic was declared, the world was waiting for the clue that would be able to cut down the progression of the disease. Vaccines play a crucial role in reducing the disease and saving many people worldwide. However, there are several side effects of these vaccines, like pain, fatigue, fever, and neurological defects like Bell's palsy. In this systematic review, we presented evidence about the occurrence of Bell's palsy followed by COVID-19 vaccination. METHODS We searched PubMed, SCOPUS, EBSCO, and Web of Science (WOS) from inception till October 2022. The quality assessment was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute, National Institute of Health, and Newcastle-Ottawa. The analysis was conducted on SPSS. RESULTS Thirty-five records were involved in our study. The results of our cases revealed that most of the patients (62.8%) experienced unilateral facial paralysis. Also, the majority of the cases were reported after the first dose, and most cases were after Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sputnik V vaccines, respectively. The patients who were treated with corticosteroids, IVIG, and anti-viral drugs, showed marked recovery afterward. CONCLUSION The rate ratio of Bell's palsy after COVID-19 vaccination was 25.3 per 1,000,000. The ratio was higher after the first dose compared to the second dose and was higher among those who took Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine compared to other vaccines. However, this condition was reported in a small number of cases among a large number of vaccinated people worldwide. It is important to note that the benefits of getting vaccinated far outweigh any potential risks.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread rapidly, giving rise to a pandemic, causing significant morbidity and mortality. In this context, many vaccines have emerged to try to deal with this disease. OBJECTIVE To review the reported cases of neurological manifestations after the application of COVID-19 vaccines, describing clinical, analytical and neuroimaging findings and health outcomes. METHODS We carried out a review through bibliographic searches in PubMed. RESULTS We found 86 articles, including 13,809 patients with a wide spectrum of neurological manifestations temporally associated with COVID-19 vaccination. Most occurred in women (63.89%), with a median age of 50 years. The most frequently reported adverse events were Bell's palsy 4936/13809 (35.7%), headache (4067/13809), cerebrovascular events 2412/13809 (17.47%), Guillain-Barré syndrome 868/13809 (6.28%), central nervous system demyelination 258/13809 (1.86%) and functional neurological disorder 398/13809 (2.88%). Most of the published cases occurred in temporal association with the Pfizer vaccine (BNT162b2), followed by the AstraZeneca vaccine (ChAdOX1 nCoV-19). CONCLUSIONS It is not possible to establish a causal relationship between these adverse events and COVID-19 vaccines with the currently existing data, nor to calculate the frequency of appearance of these disorders. However, it is necessary for health professionals to be familiar with these events, facilitating their early diagnosis and treatment. Large controlled epidemiological studies are necessary to establish a possible causal relationship between vaccination against COVID-19 and neurological adverse events.

Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented demand on the global healthcare system. Remarkably, at the end of 2021, COVID-19 vaccines received approvals for human use in several countries worldwide. Since then, a solid base for response in the fight against the virus has been placed. COVID-19 vaccines have been shown to be safe and effective drugs. Nevertheless, all kinds of vaccines may be associated with the possible appearance of neurological complications, and COVID-19 vaccines are not free from neurological side effects. Neurological complications of COVID-19 vaccination are usually mild, short-duration, and self-limiting. However, severe and unexpected post-vaccination complications are rare but possible events. They include the Guillain-Barré syndrome, facial palsy, other neuropathies, encephalitis, meningitis, myelitis, autoimmune disorders, and cerebrovascular events. The fear of severe or fatal neurological complications fed the "vaccine hesitancy" phenomenon, posing a vital communication challenge between the scientific community and public opinion. This review aims to collect and discuss the frequency, management, and outcome of reported neurological complications of COVID-19 vaccines after eighteen months of the World Health Organization's approval of COVID-19 vaccination, providing an overview of safety and concerns related to the most potent weapon against the SARS-CoV-2.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The concern surrounding the association between Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) and vaccination has increased with the widespread use of COVID-19 vaccines. The aim of this study was to assess the potential association of GBS with mRNA-based or adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines. METHODS Reports of GBS associated with mRNA-based or adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines were extracted from the WHO pharmacovigilance database, exposure data from the Our World in Data website, and the background rates of GBS from published data. For countries contributing to VigiBase and with available data on COVID-19 vaccine exposure, reporting rates were estimated and observed-to-expected (OE) analyses were performed. RESULTS A total of 2499 cases were included: 1157 (46.3%) cases with adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines and 1342 (53.7%) with mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines. The male-to-female sex ratio was 1.09 and the median (IQR) age was 57 (45-66) years. The reporting rates (95% CI) per 100,000 person-years within the 42-day window were 5.57 (5.13-6.03) for adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines and 1.39 (1.31-1.47) for mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines, while the background incidence was 1.2-3.1 per 100,000 person-years. For mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines, the OE ratio was <1 for both time windows in all European countries and slightly elevated for the 21-day window in the USA. For adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines, the OE ratio was consistently > 2.0 for all countries. Sensitivity analyses minimally altered these results. CONCLUSIONS These findings suggest both the absence of safety concern for GBS with mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines and an increased risk with adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccines. Back to top.

In this opinion paper, we focus on a few clinically relevant questions regarding the possible link between GBS and SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination based on our personal clinical experience and literature review.

Abstract
Even though no definitive link has been established, Bell's palsy has been described as a potential side effect of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines in a few reports, and the US Food and Drug Administration has recommended strict surveillance of its occurrence in the vaccinated general population. We present the case of a previously healthy 35-year-old female patient who developed Bell's palsy 12 h after receiving the first dose of the mRNA-1273 vaccine. Her general practitioner performed the diagnosis, and corticosteroid treatment was initiated, with slow symptoms improvement. The neurologist's evaluation and a contrast-enhanced brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging revealed a subtle enhancement of the left facial nerve, confirming the diagnosis of Bell's palsy.
