Abstract
The reversible modulation of chirality has gained significant attention not only for fundamental stereochemical studies but also for numerous applications ranging from liquid crystals (LCs) to molecular motors and machines. This requires the construction of switchable molecules with (multiple) chiral elements in a highly enantioselective manner, which is often a significant synthetic challenge. Here, we show that the dimerization of an easily accessible enantiopure planar chiral ferrocene-indanone building block affords a multi-stimuli-responsive dimer (FcD) with pre-determined double bond geometry, helical chirality, and relative orientation of the two ferrocene motifs in high yield. This intrinsically planar chiral switch can not only undergo thermal or photochemical E/Z isomerization but can also be reversibly and quantitatively oxidized to both a monocationic and a dicationic state which is associated with significant changes in its (chir)optical properties. Specifically, FcD acts as a chiral dopant for cholesteric LCs with a helical twisting power (HTP) of 13 μm-1 which, upon oxidation, drops to near zero, resulting in an unprecedently large redox-tuning of the LC reflection color by up to 84 nm. Due to the straightforward stereoselective synthesis, FcD, and related chiral switches, are envisioned to be powerful building blocks for multi-stimuli-responsive molecular machines and in LC-based materials.

Abstract
A rapid and efficient method for the synthesis of overcrowded alkenes using (trimethylsilyl)diazomethane provides a range of substituted bisthioxanthylidenes. We show large conformational redox switching from folded to orthogonal states, which tolerates many substitution patterns. The facile access to bisthioxanthylidene switches with the potential for further functionalization, in combination with the reliable redox chemistry, provides major opportunities for the design of electrochemically responsive systems.

Abstract
Ferrocenyl-functionalized thioketones have recently been recognized as useful building blocks for sulfur-containing compounds with potential applications in materials chemistry. This work is devoted to a single representative of such thioketones, namely diferrocenyl thioketone (Fc2CS), whose structure has been determined here for the first time. Both X-ray crystallography and a wide variety of quantum-chemical methods were used to explore the structure of Fc2CS. In addition to the X-ray structure determination, intermolecular interactions occurring in the crystal structure of Fc2CS were examined in detail by quantum-chemical methods. These methods were also an invaluable tool in studying the molecular structure of Fc2CS, from the gas phase to solutions and to its crystal. Intramolecular interactions governing the conformational behavior of an isolated Fc2CS molecule were deduced from quantum-chemical analyses carried out in orbital space and real space. Our experimental and theoretical results indicate that the main structural features of an isolated Fc2CS molecule in its lowest-energy geometry are retained both upon solvation and in the crystal. The tilt of ferrocenyl groups is only slightly affected by crystal packing forces that are dominated by dispersion. Nonetheless, a network of intermolecular interactions, such as H···H, C···H and S···H, was detected in the Fc2CS crystal but each of them is fairly weak.

Abstract
The title compound, [Fe2(C5H5)2(C20H14O2)], is the product of a new synthetic route towards tetra-aryl/hetaryl-substituted ethenes that reduces the occurrence of side-products. In the crystal, the mol-ecule is centrosymmetric and the cyclo-penta-dienyl (Cp) rings are nearly coplanar and aligned slightly closer to a staggered conformation than to an eclipsed one. The ethene plane is tilted by 32.40 (18)° with respect to that of the substituted Cp ring and by 63.19 (19)° with respect to that of the furan ring. C-H⋯π inter-actions link the mol-ecules into a three-dimensional supramolecular framework.
