Effects of S‑adenosyl‑L‑methionine on the invasion and migration of head and neck squamous cancer cells and analysis of the underlying mechanisms

Compositional and functional differences of the vaginal microbiota of women with and without cervical dysplasia

Alterations in the vaginal microbiota, including both species composition and functional pathways, have been associated with HPV infection and progression of dysplasia to cervical cancer. To further explore this, shotgun metagenomic sequencing was used to taxonomically and functionally characterize the vaginal microbiota of women with and without cervical dysplasia. Women with histologically verified dysplasia (n = 177; low grade dysplasia (LSIL) n = 81, high-grade dysplasia (HSIL) n = 94, cancer n = 2) were compared with healthy controls recruited from the cervical screening programme (n = 177). Women with dysplasia had a higher vaginal microbial diversity, and higher abundances of Gardnerella vaginalis, Aerococcus christensenii, Peptoniphilus lacrimalis and Fannyhessea vaginae, while healthy controls had higher relative abundance of Lactobacillus crispatus. Genes involved in e.g. nucleotide biosynthesis and peptidoglycan biosynthesis were more abundant in women with dysplasia. Healthy controls showed higher abundance of genes important for e.g. amino acid biosynthesis, (especially L-lysine) and sugar degradation. These findings suggest that the microbiota may have a role in creating a pro-oncogenic environment in women with dysplasia. Its role and potential interactions with other components in the microenvironment deserve further exploration.

Profiling the compendium of changes in Saccharomyces cerevisiae due to mutations that alter availability of the main methyl donor S-Adenosylmethionine

The SAM1 and SAM2 genes encode for S-Adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) synthetase enzymes, with AdoMet serving as the main cellular methyl donor. We have previously shown that independent deletion of these genes alters chromosome stability and AdoMet concentrations in opposite ways in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. To characterize other changes occurring in these mutants, we grew wildtype, sam1Δ/sam1Δ, and sam2Δ/sam2Δ strains in 15 different Phenotypic Microarray plates with different components and measured growth variations. RNA-Sequencing was also carried out on these strains and differential gene expression determined for each mutant. We explored how the phenotypic growth differences are linked to the altered gene expression, and hypothesize mechanisms by which loss of the SAM genes and subsequent AdoMet level changes, impact pathways and processes. We present 6 stories, discussing changes in sensitivity or resistance to azoles, cisplatin, oxidative stress, arginine biosynthesis perturbations, DNA synthesis inhibitors, and tamoxifen, to demonstrate the power of this novel methodology to broadly profile changes due to gene mutations. The large number of conditions that result in altered growth, as well as the large number of differentially expressed genes with wide-ranging functionality, speaks to the broad array of impacts that altering methyl donor abundance can impart. Our findings demonstrate that some cellular changes are directly related to AdoMet-dependent methyltransferases and AdoMet availability, some are directly linked to the methyl cycle and its role in production of several important cellular components, and others reveal impacts of SAM gene mutations on previously unconnected pathways.

Poor prognosis, hypomethylation, and immune infiltrates are associated with downregulation of INMT in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

Background: Indiolethylamine-N-methyltransferase (INMT) is a methyltransferase responsible for transferring methyl groups from methyl donor SAM to its substrate. S-adenosyl-l-methionine (SAM), obtained from the methionine cycle, is a naturally occurring sulfonium compound that is vital to cellular metabolism. The expression of INMT is down-regulated in many tumorous tissues, and it may contribute to tumor invasion and metastasis. Nevertheless, the expression of INMT and its relationship to methylation and immune infiltrates in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) remains a mystery. Thus, we evaluated expression, clinicopathological features, prognosis, several critical pathways, DNA methylation, and immune cell infiltration for the first time.

Methods: Analysis of the clinicopathological characteristics of INMT expression, several tumor-related bioinformatics databases were utilized. In addition, the role of INMT expression was analyzed for prognosis. Several INMT-related pathways were enriched on the LinkedOmics website. In addition, we have analyzed the methylation of INMT in HNSC in detail by using several methylation databases. Lastly, the relationship between INMT gene expression and immune infiltration was analyzed with ssGSEA, Timer, and TISIDB.

Results: In HNSC, mRNA and protein levels were significantly lower than in normal tissues. The low expression of INMT was statistically associated with T stage, histological grade, gender, smoking history, and alcohol consumption. HNSC patients with low INMT expression have a poorer OS (overall survival) compared to those with high levels of expression. In addition, the multivariate analysis revealed INMT expression to be a remarkable independent predictor of prognosis in HNSC patients. An analysis of gene enrichment showed that several pathways were enriched in INMT, including the Ras signaling pathway, the cGMP-PKG signaling pathway, and others. Moreover, methylation patterns of INMT detected in a variety of methylation databases are closely associated with mRNA expression and prognosis. Finally, INMT was significantly correlated with immune infiltration levels.

Conclusion: HNSC with low levels of INMT exhibits poor survival, hypomethylation, and immune infiltration. For HNSC, this study presented evidence that INMT is both a biomarker of poor prognosis and a target of immunotherapy.

Present Status, Challenges, and Prospects of Dihydromyricetin in the Battle against Cancer

Dihydromyricetin (DHM) is a natural flavonoid compound extracted from Ampelopsis grossedentata that has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine. DHM has attracted intensive attention due to its numerous beneficial activities, such as hepatoprotection, cardioprotection, antioxidant, and anti-inflammation. In addition, DHM inhibits the progression of cancers such as lung cancer, hepatocellular cancer, breast cancer, melanoma, and malignant reproductive systems through multiple mechanisms, including antiangiogenesis, antiproliferation, apoptosis, and inhibition of invasion and migration. Notably, DHM also activates autophagy at different levels, exerting a dual-regulatory effect on cancers. Mechanistically, DHM can effectively regulate mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR), noncoding RNA-mediated signaling, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/protein kinase B (Akt) pathway, nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), p53, and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER stress)-driven signaling in different types of cancers. DHM has also been shown to have inhibitory effects on various regulators that trigger epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT). Furthermore, DHM exhibits a remarkable anticancer reversal ability when used in combination with drugs such as adriamycin, nedaplatin, and other drugs. However, the low bioavailability of DHM limits its potential applications, which are improved through structural modification and the exploration of novel dosage forms. Therefore, DHM may become a promising candidate for treating malignancies alone or combined with conventional anticancer strategies used in clinical practice.

S-Adenosylmethionine Inhibits Colorectal Cancer Cell Migration through Mirna-Mediated Targeting of Notch Signaling Pathway

Metastasis is a leading cause of mortality and poor prognosis in colorectal cancer (CRC). Thus, the identification of new compounds targeting cell migration represents a major clinical challenge. Recent findings evidenced a central role for dysregulated Notch in CRC and a correlation between Notch overexpression and tumor metastasis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been reported to cross-talk with Notch for its regulation. Therefore, restoring underexpressed miRNAs targeting Notch could represent an encouraging therapeutic approach against CRC. In this context, S-adenosyl-L-methionine (AdoMet), the universal biological methyl donor, being able to modulate the expression of oncogenic miRNAs could act as a potential antimetastatic agent. Here, we showed that AdoMet upregulated the onco-suppressor miRNAs-34a/-34c/-449a and inhibited HCT-116 and Caco-2 CRC cell migration. This effect was associated with reduced expression of migration-/EMT-related protein markers. We also found that, in colorectal and triple-negative breast cancer cells, AdoMet inhibited the expression of Notch gene, which, by luciferase assay, resulted the direct target of miRNAs-34a/-34c/-449a. Gain- and loss-of-function experiments with miRNAs mimics and inhibitors demonstrated that AdoMet exerted its inhibitory effects by upregulating miRNAs-34a/-34c/-449a. Overall, these data highlighted AdoMet as a novel Notch inhibitor and suggested that the antimetastatic effects of AdoMet involve the miRNA-mediated targeting of Notch signaling pathway.

Excess S-adenosylmethionine inhibits methylation via catabolism to adenine

The global dietary supplement market is valued at over USD 100 billion. One popular dietary supplement, S-adenosylmethionine, is marketed to improve joints, liver health and emotional well-being in the US since 1999, and has been a prescription drug in Europe to treat depression and arthritis since 1975, but recent studies questioned its efficacy. In our body, S-adenosylmethionine is critical for the methylation of nucleic acids, proteins and many other targets. The marketing of SAM implies that more S-adenosylmethionine is better since it would stimulate methylations and improve health. Previously, we have shown that methylation reactions regulate biological rhythms in many organisms. Here, using biological rhythms to assess the effects of exogenous S-adenosylmethionine, we reveal that excess S-adenosylmethionine disrupts rhythms and, rather than promoting methylation, is catabolized to adenine and methylthioadenosine, toxic methylation inhibitors. These findings further our understanding of methyl metabolism and question the safety of S-adenosylmethionine as a supplement.

S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) is a widely available dietary supplement. Exogenous SAM is catabolized to adenine, an inhibitor of adenosylhomocysteinase, leading to widespread methylation inhibition and disruption of circadian rhythms in vitro and in mice.

Medulloblastoma cerebrospinal fluid reveals metabolites and lipids indicative of hypoxia and cancer-specific RNAs

Medulloblastoma (MB) is the most common malignant brain tumor in children. There remains an unmet need for diagnostics to sensitively detect the disease, particularly recurrences. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) provides a window into the central nervous system, and liquid biopsy of CSF could provide a relatively non-invasive means for disease diagnosis. There has yet to be an integrated analysis of the transcriptomic, metabolomic, and lipidomic changes occurring in the CSF of children with MB. CSF samples from patients with (n = 40) or without (n = 11; no cancer) MB were subjected to RNA-sequencing and high-resolution mass spectrometry to identify RNA, metabolite, and lipid profiles. Differentially expressed transcripts, metabolites, and lipids were identified and their biological significance assessed by pathway analysis. The DIABLO multivariate analysis package (R package mixOmics) was used to integrate the molecular changes characterizing the CSF of MB patients. Differentially expressed transcripts, metabolites, and lipids in CSF were discriminatory for the presence of MB but not the exact molecular subtype. One hundred and ten genes and ten circular RNAs were differentially expressed in MB CSF compared with normal, representing TGF-β signaling, TNF-α signaling via NF-kB, and adipogenesis pathways. Tricarboxylic acid cycle and other metabolites (malate, fumarate, succinate, α-ketoglutarate, hydroxypyruvate, N-acetyl-aspartate) and total triacylglycerols were significantly upregulated in MB CSF compared with normal CSF. Although separating MBs into subgroups using transcriptomic, metabolomic, and lipid signatures in CSF was challenging, we were able to identify a group of omics signatures that could separate cancer from normal CSF. Metabolic and lipidomic profiles both contained indicators of tumor hypoxia. Our approach provides several candidate signatures that deserve further validation, including the novel circular RNA circ_463, and insights into the impact of MB on the CSF microenvironment.

S-Adenosylmethionine, a Promising Antitumor Agent in Oral and Laryngeal Cancer

Squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (HNSCC), which includes cancers of the oral cavity and larynx, is one of the most common and highly aggressive malignancies worldwide, despite significant efforts committed in recent decades in its detection, prevention, and treatment. The intrinsic or acquired drug resistance during treatment is the main limitation to chemotherapy, increasing mortality and cancer recurrence. Therefore, there is a growing scientific interest in identifying and developing adjuvant chemotherapies able to improve currently available treatments. S-Adenosylmethionine (AdoMet), a safe and nontoxic natural cofactor with pleiotropic effects on multiple cellular processes and the main biological methyl donor in transmethylation reactions, has been considerably studied as a therapeutic compound. Its application, alone or in combination with other drugs, is emerging as a potentially effective strategy for cancer treatment and for chemoprevention. This review summarizes the structural, pharmacological, and clinical aspects of AdoMet and provides an overview of the recent results highlighting its anticancer activity in the treatment of oral and laryngeal cancer, with particular emphasis on its molecular mechanisms and the promising chemoprotective and synergistic effects exerted in combination with cisplatin and specific microRNAs.

S-Adenosylmethionine Increases the Sensitivity of Human Colorectal Cancer Cells to 5-Fluorouracil by Inhibiting P-Glycoprotein Expression and NF-κB Activation

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second deadliest cancer worldwide despite significant advances in both diagnosis and therapy. The high incidence of CRC and its poor prognosis, partially attributed to multi-drug resistance and antiapoptotic activity of cancer cells, arouse strong interest in the identification and development of new treatments. S-Adenosylmethionine (AdoMet), a natural compound and a nutritional supplement, is well known for its antiproliferative and proapoptotic effects as well as for its potential in overcoming drug resistance in many kinds of human tumors. Here, we report that AdoMet enhanced the antitumor activity of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in HCT 116^p53+/+ and in LoVo CRC cells through the inhibition of autophagy, induced by 5-FU as a cell defense mechanism to escape the drug cytotoxicity. Multiple drug resistance is mainly due to the overexpression of drug efflux pumps, such as P-glycoprotein (P-gp). We demonstrate here that AdoMet was able to revert the 5-FU-induced upregulation of P-gp expression and to decrease levels of acetylated NF-κB, the activated form of NF-κB, the major antiapoptotic factor involved in P-gp-related chemoresistance. Overall, our data show that AdoMet, was able to overcome 5-FU chemoresistance in CRC cells by targeting multiple pathways such as autophagy, P-gp expression, and NF-κB signaling activation and provided important implications for the development of new adjuvant therapies to improve CRC treatment and patient outcomes.

Mutual Correlation between Non-Coding RNA and S-Adenosylmethionine in Human Cancer: Roles and Therapeutic Opportunities

Non-coding RNAs and S-adenosylmethionine, the methyl donor required in all epigenetic methylation reactions, have emerged in recent years as crucial players in the modulation of gene expression in different types of human cancers. This review summarizes the most recent findings on reciprocal regulation between AdoMet and non-coding RNAs. AdoMet was found to exert anticancer activity through epigenetic regulation of non-coding RNAs, including microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs. On the other hand, several microRNAs and long non-coding RNAs have been reported to display regulatory effects on the expression of genes involved in AdoMet synthesis and metabolism. Increasing knowledge on the relationship between AdoMet and non-coding RNAs will provide insights for further development of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cancer treatments.

Abstract

Epigenetics includes modifications in DNA methylation, histone and chromatin structure, and expression of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), especially microRNAs (miRNAs) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs). Knowledge of the relationships between S-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet or SAM), the universal methyl donor for all epigenetic methylation reactions and miRNAs or lncRNAs in human cancer may provide helpful insights for the development of new end more effective anticancer therapeutic approaches. In recent literature, a complex network of mutual interconnections between AdoMet and miRNAs or lncRNAs has been reported and discussed. Indeed, ncRNAs expression may be regulated by epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA and RNA methylation and histone modifications. On the other hand, miRNAs or lncRNAs may influence the epigenetic apparatus by modulating the expression of its enzymatic components at the post-transcriptional level. Understanding epigenetic mechanisms, such as dysregulation of miRNAs/lncRNAs and DNA methylation, has become of central importance in modern research. This review summarizes the recent findings on the mechanisms by which AdoMet and miRNA/lncRNA exert their bioactivity, providing new insights to develop innovative and more efficient anticancer strategies based on the interactions between these epigenetic modulators.

LncRNA FEZF1-AS1 accelerates the migration and invasion of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma cells through miR-4497 targeting GBX2

BACKGROUND

MiR-4497 has been previously proved to exert an anti-cancer role in laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) by negatively regulating gastrulation brain homeobox 2 (GBX2). However, the mechanism of miR-4497 in LSCC has yet to be fully elucidated. This study intended to investigate the role of FEZF1-AS1 in the migration and invasion of LSCC cells and clarified its mechanism through miR-4497 and GBX2.

METHODS

qPCR evaluated the expression of FEZF1-AS1, miR-4497 and GBX2 in LSCC tissues and cells, compared with controls. Western blotting analyzed GBX2, E-cadherin, N-cadherin and Vimentin. CCK8, wound healing and transwell assays assessed the viability, migration and invasion of TU686 and UM-SCC-17A cells. Luciferase reporter assay affirmed the interplay of miR-4497 with FEZF1-AS1 or GBX2 and Pearson's correlation analysis explored the association between each two genes in both tumor and non-tumor tissues.

RESULTS

FEZF1-AS1 was highly expressed in LSCC tissues and cells. Silence or elevation of FEZF1-AS1 inhibited or promoted the migration and invasion of TU686 and UM-SCC-17A cells. FEZF1-AS1 targeted and negatively modulated miR-4497. Inhibition of miR-4497 markedly restored the FEZF1-AS1 silence-repressed cell viability of TU686 and UM-SCC-17A cells. Further, FEZF1-AS1 could positively regulate GBX2 via negative regulation of miR-4497. In these two cells, GBX2 deficiency reversed the promoting impacts of miR-4497 repression on migration and invasion.

CONCLUSION

Taken together, FEZF1-AS1, heightened in LSCC tissues and cells, promotes cell migration and invasion of LSCC cells via targeting miR-4497 that inhibits GBX2. The finding may offer new options for the treatment of this cancer.

S-Adenosylmethionine Inhibits Cell Growth and Migration of Triple Negative Breast Cancer Cells through Upregulating MiRNA-34c and MiRNA-449a

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide and shows maximum invasiveness and a high risk of metastasis. Recently, many natural compounds have been highlighted as a valuable source of new and less toxic drugs to enhance breast cancer therapy. Among them, S-adenosyl-L-methionine (AdoMet) has emerged as a promising anti-cancer agent. MicroRNA (miRNA or miR)-based gene therapy provides an interesting antitumor approach to integrated cancer therapy. In this study, we evaluated AdoMet-induced modulation of miRNA-34c and miRNA-449a expression in MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468 TNBC cells. We demonstrated that AdoMet upregulates miR-34c and miR-449a expression in both cell lines. We found that the combination of AdoMet with miR-34c or miR-449a mimic strongly potentiated the pro-apoptotic effect of the sulfonium compound by a caspase-dependent mechanism. For the first time, by video time-lapse microscopy, we showed that AdoMet inhibited the in vitro migration of MDA-MB-231 and MDA-MB-468 cells and that the combination with miR-34c or miR-449a mimic strengthened the effect of the sulfonium compound through the modulation of β-catenin and Small Mother Against Decapentaplegic (SMAD) signaling pathways. Our results furnished the first evidence that AdoMet exerts its antitumor effects in TNBC cells through upregulating the expression of miR-34c and miR-449a.

S-Adenosyl-l-Methionine Overcomes uL3-Mediated Drug Resistance in p53 Deleted Colon Cancer Cells

Purpose: In order to study novel therapeutic approaches taking advantage of natural compounds showing anticancer and anti-proliferative effects, we focused our interest on S-adenosyl-l-methionine, a naturally occurring sulfur-containing nucleoside synthesized from adenosine triphosphate and methionine by methionine adenosyltransferase, and its potential in overcoming drug resistance in colon cancer cells devoid of p53. Results: In the present study, we demonstrated that S-adenosyl-l-methionine overcomes uL3-mediated drug resistance in p53 deleted colon cancer cells. In particular, we demonstrated that S-adenosyl-l-methionine causes cell cycle arrest at the S phase; inhibits autophagy; augments reactive oxygen species; and induces apoptosis in these cancer cells. Conclusions: Results reported in this paper led us to propose S-adenosyl-l-methionine as a potential promising agent for cancer therapy by examining p53 and uL3 profiles in tumors to yield a better clinical outcomes.

Pharmacokinetic study of a novel oral formulation of S-adenosylmethionine (MSI-195) in healthy subjects: dose escalation, food effect and comparison to a commercial nutritional supplement product

Background

A novel, high bioavailability oral, enteric coated tablet formulation of S-adenosylmethionine (MSI-195) has been developed for life science application. The present research reports on a Phase 1 study to (i) determine the safety of single doses of MSI-195 (ii) to determine the dose proportionality of MSI-195 at doses of 400, 800 and 1600 mg (iii) determine the pharmacokinetics of MSI-195 compared with a commercial reference product (SAM-e Complete™) over 24 h and (iv) to determine the effect of food on the pharmacokinetic profile of MSI-195 in human subjects.

Methods

This study was a pharmacokinetic and safety evaluation of MSI-195 and a commercial comparator broken into two stages. The first stage was an exploratory single ascending dose design of MSI-195 in 8 healthy normal male volunteers. The second stage was a single dose evaluation, targeting 26 male and female volunteers at set doses of MSI-195 and commercial comparator in a cross-over design followed by a food effect study on MSI-195. Plasma samples were collected and assayed for S-adenosylmethionine using a validated HPLC method with MS/MS detection. The main absorption and disposition parameters were calculated using a non-compartmental approach with a log-linear terminal phase assumption. Statistical analysis was based on an ANOVA model or t test as appropriate.

Results

MSI-195 was found to be generally well tolerated with an adverse event profile similar to the SAM-e Complete™ comparator product. The relative bioavailability of MSI-195 was approximately 2.8-fold higher than SAM-e Complete based on area under the curve (AUC) ratios for the two products and the MSI-195 formulation exposure based on AUC was found to be approximately dose proportional. There was a significant food effect for MSI-195 with a delayed time to maximum absorption T_max, going from 4.5 h under fasted conditions to 13 h under fed conditions, and area under the curve with food reduced to 55% of that seen under fasting conditions.

Conclusions

The overall conclusion was that MSI-195 was well tolerated and has markedly higher bioavailability compared with both the SAM-e Complete™ commercial product tested and, on a per mg basis, products reported in other literature.

Mi-RNA-888-5p Is Involved in S-Adenosylmethionine Antitumor Effects in Laryngeal Squamous Cancer Cells

Here, we report that AdoMet induces ER-stress and autophagy paralleled by miR-888-5p downregulation and MYCBP and CDH1 increased expression in Laryngeal Squamous Cancer Cells (LSCC). This study contributes to understanding the mechanisms by which AdoMet exerts its effects in LSCC, suggesting the use of AdoMet as an attractive miRNA-mediated chemopreventive and therapeutic strategy against cancer.

Abstract

(1) Purpose: The methyl donor S-Adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) has been widely explored as a therapeutic compound, and its application-alone or in combination with other molecules-is emerging as a potential effective strategy for the treatment and chemoprevention of tumours. In this study, we investigated the antitumor activity of AdoMet in Laryngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (LSCC), exploring the underlying mechanisms. (2) Results: We demonstrated that AdoMet induced ROS generation and triggered autophagy with a consistent increase in LC3B-II autophagy-marker in JHU-SCC-011 and HNO210 LSCC cells. AdoMet induced ER-stress and activated UPR signaling through the upregulation of the spliced form of XBP1 and CHOP. To gain new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the antitumor activity of AdoMet, we evaluated the regulation of miRNA expression profile and we found a downregulation of miR-888-5p. We transfected LSCC cells with miR-888-5p inhibitor and exposed the cells to AdoMet for 48 and 72 h. The combination of AdoMet with miR-888-5p inhibitor synergistically induced both apoptosis and inhibited cell migration paralleled by the up-regulation of MYCBP and CDH1 genes and of their targets. (3) Conclusion: Overall, these data highlighted that epigenetic reprogramming of miRNAs by AdoMet play an important role in inhibiting apoptosis and migration in LSCC cell lines.

Therapeutic Potential of the Natural Compound S-Adenosylmethionine as a Chemoprotective Synergistic Agent in Breast, and Head and Neck Cancer Treatment: Current Status of Research

The present review summarizes the most recent studies focusing on the synergistic antitumor effect of the physiological methyl donor S-adenosylmethionine (AdoMet) in association with the main drugs used against breast cancer and head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), two highly aggressive and metastatic malignancies. In these two tumors the chemotherapy approach is recommended as the first choice despite the numerous side effects and recurrence of metastasis, so better tolerated treatments are needed to overcome this problem. In this regard, combination therapy with natural compounds, such as AdoMet, a molecule with pleiotropic effects on multiple cellular processes, is emerging as a suitable strategy to achieve synergistic anticancer efficacy. In this context, the analysis of studies conducted in the literature highlighted AdoMet as one of the most effective and promising chemosensitizing agents to be taken into consideration for inclusion in emerging antitumor therapeutic modalities such as nanotechnologies.
