Abstract
Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) following pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is a potentially lethal complication, and it is clinically important to determine its risk preoperatively. Although C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) is reported to be a prognostic marker for postoperative complications in several cancers, no evidence is currently available regarding the association between preoperative CAR and POPF following PD for periampullary tumors. This study examined whether preoperative CAR could predict POPF following PD. Clinical data were retrospectively retrieved from Ehime University Hospital. The optimal cut-off value for CAR was determined using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. This study enrolled 203 consecutive patients undergoing PD for periampullary tumors. The CAR value was significantly higher in the POPF group than in the non-POPF group (p < 0.001). According to the ROC curve analysis, the optimal cut-off value for CAR was 0.09. Patients with CAR ≥ 0.09 had higher incidence rates of POPF than their counterparts. CAR ≥ 0.09 was a risk factor for POPF in the multivariate logistic regression analysis (odds ratio 34.5, 95% confidence interval 11.75-101.38, p < 0.001). This is the first report demonstrating an association between CAR and POPF following PD. Preoperative CAR is an independent predictive marker for POPF following PD.

Abstract
In pancreatic cancer, postoperative complications (POCs) are associated with disease outcomes. The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is known to predict POCs after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) or distal pancreatectomy (DP) in patients with hepatobiliary pancreatic tumors, including pancreatic cancer. Through POC occurrence risk, we aimed to determine whether GNRI could predict prognosis in patients who underwent PD or DP for resectable pancreatic cancer. This retrospective study examined 139 patients who underwent radical pancreatectomy for resectable pancreatic cancer at Ehime University. All patients were subjected to nutritional screening using GNRI and were followed up for POC diagnosis and patient outcomes such as overall survival (OS). Patients were divided based on the GNRI value of 99 (Low group: N = 74, GNRI < 99; High group: N = 65, GNRI ≥ 99), which was determined by receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. Multivariate analysis showed that GNRI < 99 was statistically correlated with POCs after curative pancreatic resection (p = 0.02). Univariate and multivariate analyses confirmed that GNRI < 99 was significantly associated with long OS (p = 0.04). GNRI could be a potential prognostic marker for resectable pancreatic cancer after curative pancreatic resection despite being a simple and noninvasive approach.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The safety of laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) in elderly patients is a matter of concern because the reduced physiologic reserve increases the risk of postoperative complications. However, there are few score systems for predicting complications after LLR in elderly patients. The aim of this study is to propose a new simplified scoring system based on the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) to predict major complications after LLR in elderly patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). METHODS We retrospectively reviewed 257 consecutive patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent LLR for HCC between 2004 and 2019. The GNRI formula was 1.489 × serum albumin (g/L) + 41.7 × present weight/ideal weight (kg). A scoring system to predict the risk of major complications was developed by assigning points to each risk factor equal to its regression coefficient determined in the multivariable analysis. Major complications were defined as complications of Clavien-Dindo grade III or higher. RESULTS Of the 257 patients, 219 patients were finally included in this study. Major complications occurred after LLR in 24 patients (10.9%). Multivariable analysis showed that the GNRI (hazard ratio [HR] 3.396, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.242-9.288, P = 0.017), Child-Turcotte-Pugh score (HR 2.191, 95% CI 1.400-8.999, P = 0.036), major liver resection (HR 2.683, 95% CI 1.082-7.328, P = 0.050), and intraoperative transfusion (HR 1.802, 95% CI 1.428-7.591, P = 0.022) were independent predictors of major postoperative complications. These variables were assigned points based on their HRs, and the resulting 10-point model showed good discrimination (area under the curve 0.756, 95% CI 0.649-0.836, P = 0.001). CONCLUSION The scoring system outperformed the GNRI for predicting major complications after LLR in elderly patients with HCC.

Abstract
Background The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is a commonly used method to assess nutritional risk for predicting potential surgical site infections (SSI) in cancer patients. This study aims to create and verify a simple nomogram and a dynamic web-based calculator for predicting the risk of SSI among gynecologic oncology patients. Methods A retrospective evaluation was conducted on patients who were admitted into a tertiary hospital in China with confirmed diagnosis of gynecologic cancer between 01 August 2017 and 30 November 2021. A two-piecewise linear regression model with a smoothing function was used to investigate the non-linear association between GNRI and SSI to determine the ideal cut-off point. Three models were developed on the basis of different variables to predict SSI in gynecologic oncology patients. Through a nomogram the concordance index (C-index), the Akaike information criterion (AIC), and the integrated discrimination index (IDI) were used to determine the final model. Finally, the performance of the nomogram was validated using the 1,000-bootstrap resamples method and analyzed using C-index, GiViTI calibration belts, and decision curve. Also, a user-friendly dynamic web-based calculator was developed. Results A total of 1,221 patients were included in the analysis. A non-linear association could be observed between GNRI and SSI risk with a GNRI cut-off value of 101.7. After adding GNRI to Model 2 (which comprised Morse Fall Scale score, preoperative length of stay, operation time, and estimated blood loss), the AIC value decreased, the C-index value increased and IDI increased significantly. The nomogram C-index in the development cohort and internal validation cohort demonstrates a moderate-high degree of discrimination. The GiViTI calibrated belt showed a good agreement between the observed and predicted probabilities of SSI. The decision curve validates the clinical feasibility of the nomogram with a threshold value between 0 and 49%. Conclusion The GNRI cut-off value of 101.7 allowed for appropriate stratification of patients into distinct SSI risk groups. This study found that including GNRI in the above nomogram (Model 2) would enhance its potential to predict SSI in gynecologic oncology patients.

Abstract
Objective Previous studies have explored the association between malnutrition and frailty, but no study has investigated whether the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), a simple and objective nutritional risk screening tool, is associated with the frailty of older adults. The study aimed to examine the relationship between nutrition-related risk, as assessed by the GNRI, and frailty among older hospitalized patients. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in the West China Hospital of Sichuan University with 740 patients aged ≥70 years between March 2016 and Jan 2017. Nutritional and frailty status was evaluated with the GNRI and FRAIL scale, respectively. The adjusted and unadjusted ordinal logistic regression analyses were used to examine the relationship between nutritional risk and frailty. The ability of GNRI in detecting frailty was assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis. Results The prevalence of low, moderate, and severe nutritional risk among frail patients were 30.1%, 27.6%, and 12.5%, respectively. Ordinal logistic regression analysis showed that malnutrition assessed by the GNRI had a significant association with frailty after adjustment of age, sex, polypharmacy, comorbidity, vision impairment, hearing impairment, cognitive impairment, and depression. In the ROC analysis, the area under the curve for GNRI identifying frailty was 0.698 (95% CI: 0.66-0.74; P<0.001), and the optimal cut-point value was 97.16 (sensitivity: 64.3%; specificity: 66.9%). Conclusion Nutrition-related risk screened by the GNRI was independently associated with frailty. The GNRI could be used as a simple tool in detecting nutritional risk and frailty status of older patients.

Abstract
Background The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) is a simple and objective screening tool for clinicians to screen patients’ nutritional status based on serum albumin level and their weight and height. The original study had divided patients based on GNRI into quartiles of nutritional risk for death: a no-risk group (GNRI >98), a low-risk group (GNRI 92–98), a moderate-risk group (GNRI 82 to <92), and a major-risk group (GNRI <82). Given that the patients generally sustained traumatic brain injury (TBI) in an acute condition, the study aimed to explore whether GNRI presents a prognostic value for the mortality outcome of these patients. Methods From January 1, 2009, to December 31, 2019, 581 elderly patients with moderate to severe TBI, which was defined as sustaining a head Abbreviated Injury Scale ≥3, was included in the study population. The collected data included age, sex, body mass index, serum albumin levels at admission, preexisting comorbidities, Glasgow Coma Scale, and Injury Severity Score. The primary outcome in the comparison was in-hospital mortality. Results Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that GNRI, ESRD, and ISS were significant independent risk factors for mortality in patients with moderate to severe TBI. When subgrouping the study population into four nutritional risk categories according to the quartile deviation as Q1 (GNRI <85, n = 145), Q2 (GNRI 85 to <93.8 n = 145), Q3 (GNRI 93.8 to 103, n = 145), and Q4 (GNRI >103, n = 146), Q1 patients had a significantly longer LOS in hospital (25.2 days vs 18.6 days, respectively; p = 0.004) and higher mortality rate (28.3% vs 11.7%, respectively; p < 0.001) than Q4 patients. The mortality rate was significantly higher in Q1 patients than in Q4 patients (OR, 2.8; 95% CI, 1.14–6.78; p = 0.021). Conclusion This study revealed that the GNRI is a significant independent risk factor and a promising simple assessment tool for mortality in elderly patients with moderate to severe TBI.

Abstract
Aim The clinical significance of the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients undergoing preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) followed by curative surgery has not been comprehensively evaluated. Methods This retrospective study enrolled 93 LARC patients diagnosed with clinical lymph node metastasis. The GNRI formula was as follows: 1.489 × albumin (g/l) + 41.7 × current weight/ideal weight. Patients were categorized as GNRI low (GNRI < 104.25) or high (GNRI > 104.25) according to the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for survival analysis. The impact of GNRI status on the prognostic outcomes of curative surgery for LARC was examined. Results There were 55 (59.14%) and 38 (40.86%) patients in the GNRI high and low groups, respectively. Of the investigated demographic factors, age, pathological tumor invasion, and presence of recurrence were significantly associated with the GNRI value. In Kaplan–Meier analysis, overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were significantly shorter in the GNRI low group (OS: p = 0.00020, DFS: p = 0.0044, log-rank test). Multivariate analysis using a Cox proportional hazards model showed that a low GNRI was an independent risk factor for poor OS (hazard ratio (HR) = 3.22; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.37–8.23; p = 0.0068) and DFS (HR = 2.32; 95%CI = 1.15–4.79; p = 0.018). Although use of adjuvant therapy has no impact on prognosis (OS: p = 0.26, DFS: p = 0.29), low GNRI showed shorter OS and DFS in patients with pathological lymph node metastasis [ypN(+)] (OS: p = 0.033, DFS: p = 0.032, log-rank test). Conclusions GNRI is a useful marker for LARC patients diagnosed with clinical lymph node metastasis and treated by preoperative CRT followed by curative surgery. GNRI is a useful tool to identify high risk of recurrence for improving the survival in LARC patients. Abstract
Background Surgical site infections (SSIs), which are associated with preoperative malnutrition, are a well-known potential complication of surgery that leads to increased medical costs and longer hospitalizations. Thus, surgeons need to accurately identify patients at high-risk for SSIs. Considering that the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) was designed to assess the degree of malnutrition specifically among elderly patients, previous evidence (Kawaguchi study) proved that GNRI predicted the risk of SSIs in patients following pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). In this study, we aimed to validate whether that the same index could predict the risk of SSI among patients who underwent PD in our patient cohort (Ageo study). Methods The current validation cohort study was retrospectively conducted on 93 patients at the Department of Surgery, Ageo Central General Hospital, Japan, from January 2015 to October 2019. All patients were subjected to nutritional screening using the GNRI and were followed up for the occurrence of postoperative complications. Additionally, risk factors for developing SSI, as well as patient's height, body mass index, and preoperative laboratory values, were recorded. Results Patients were divided into the SSI (N=30) and non-SSI (N=63) groups with a determined SSI incidence rate of 32.3% (30/93). The SSI group had significantly lower GNRI than the non-SSI group (P<0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis determined a cutoff GNRI value of 94 (sensitivity, 83.3%; specificity, 83.6%), similar to that in the previous study. Univariate and multivariate analyses confirmed that a GNRI of <94 was significantly associated with SSI (P<0.001). Conclusions The present Ageo study confirmed the consistency of results in Kawaguchi study. Thus, lower GNRI can be a universal marker for SSI risk following PD.

Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index as a Screening Tool to Identify Patients with Malnutrition at a High Risk of In-Hospital Mortality among Elderly Patients with Femoral Fractures-A Retrospective Study in a Level I Trauma Center. Abstract
BACKGROUND Malnutrition is frequently underdiagnosed in geriatric patients and is considered to be a contributing factor for worse outcomes during hospitalization. In addition, elderly patients who undergo trauma are often malnourished at the time of incurring fractures. The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI), calculated based on the serum albumin level and the ratio of present body weight to ideal body weight, was proposed for the assessment of the nutritional status of elderly patients with various illnesses. This study aimed to investigate whether the GNRI has a prognostic value that links the nutritional status and mortality outcomes of elderly patients who have previously undergone trauma with femoral fractures. METHODS From January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2019, a total of 678 elderly patients with femoral fractures were categorized into four nutritional risk groups: a major-risk group (GNRI <82; group 1, n = 127), moderate-risk group (GNRI 82- <92; group 2, n = 179), low-risk group (GNRI 92-98; group 3, n = 123), and no-risk group (GNRI >98; group 4, n = 249). To minimize the confounding effects of sex, age, preexisting comorbidities, and injury severity of patients on outcome measurements, propensity score-matched patient cohorts were created to assess the impact of patients being in different nutritional risk groups on the in-hospital mortality outcomes against the no-risk group. RESULTS The patients in groups 1-3 were significantly older and presented a significantly lower body mass index and lower serum albumin levels than those in group 4. Compared with patients in group 4 (3.6%), a significantly higher mortality rate was found in the patients in group 1 (17.3%, p < 0.001), but not in those in group 2 (6.7%) or group 3 (2.4%). The study of propensity score-matched patient cohorts provided similar results; group 1 patients had significantly higher odds of mortality than group 4 patients (odds ratio, 6.3; 95% confidence interval, 1.34-29.37; p = 0.009), but there were no significant differences in mortality risks among patients in groups 2 and 3 compared with those in group 4. CONCLUSIONS This preliminary study suggested that the GNRI may be used as a screening tool to identify patients with malnutrition at a high risk of mortality among elderly patients with femoral fractures. A prospective study is needed to validate the suggestion.

Abstract
Background Surgical site infection is a major perioperative issue. The morbidity of surgical site infection is high in major digestive surgery, such as pancreaticoduodenectomy. The comprehensive risk factors, including anesthetic factors, for surgical site infection in pancreaticoduodenectomy are unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the perioperative and anesthetic risk factors of surgical site infection in pancreaticoduodenectomy. Methods This was a retrospective cohort study conducted in a single tertiary care center. A total of 326 consecutive patients who underwent pancreaticoduodenectomy between January 2009 and March 2018 were evaluated. Patients who underwent resection of other organs were excluded. The primary outcome was the incidence of surgical site infection, based on a Clavien-Dindo classification of grade 2 or higher. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to investigate the association between surgical site infection and perioperative and anesthetic factors. Results Of the 326 patients, 116 (35.6%) were women. The median age was 70 years (interquartile range; 64–75). The median duration of surgery was 10.9 hours (interquartile range; 9.5–12.4). Surgical site infection occurred in 60 patients (18.4%). The multivariable analysis revealed that the use of desflurane as a maintenance anesthetic was associated with a significantly lower risk of surgical site infection than sevoflurane (odds ratio, 0.503; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.260–0.973). In contrast, the duration of surgery (odds ratio, 1.162; 95% CI, 1.017–1.328), cerebrovascular disease (odds ratio, 3.544; 95% CI, 1.326–9.469), and ischemic heart disease (odds ratio, 10.839; 95% CI, 1.887–62.249) were identified as significant risk factors of surgical site infection. Conclusions Desflurane may be better than sevoflurane in preventing surgical site infection in pancreaticoduodenectomy. Cerebrovascular disease and ischemic heart disease are potential newly-identified risk factors of surgical site infection in pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Simple Summary The definite risk factor of postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) is still unknown in spite of a lethal complication of pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). In this study, we evaluated whether GNRI is a reliable marker for PPH following PD. The present study retrospectively evaluated 121 patients treated with PD at Ageo Central General Hospital in Japan. Ten patients had developed PPH. Among them, the patients were divided into bleeding group (n = 10) and non-bleeding group (n = 111). The bleeding group had significantly low geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) values compared to those in the non-bleeding group (p = 0.001). The cut-off value of GNRI was determined by 92 accounting for a sensitivity 80.0%, specificity 82.9% using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. A GNRI of <92 was statistically identified as an independently risk factor of PPH risk following PD. Abstract Postpancreatectomy hemorrhage (PPH) is the most lethal complication of pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). The main risk factor for PPH is the development of a postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). Recent evidence shows that the geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) may be predictive indicator for POPF. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether GNRI is a reliable predictive marker for PPH following PD. The present study retrospectively evaluated 121 patients treated with PD at Ageo Central General Hospital in Japan between January 2015 and March 2020. We investigated the potential of age, gender, body mass index, serum albumin, American Society of Anesthesiologists classification (ASA), diabetes mellitus and smoking status, time taken for the operation, estimated blood loss, and postoperative complications (POPF, bile leak, and surgical site infections) to predict the risk of PPH following PD using univariate and multivariate analyses. Ten patients had developed PPH with an incidence of 8.3%. Among them, the patients were divided into bleeding group (n = 10) and non-bleeding group (n = 111). The bleeding group had significantly lower GNRI values than those in the non-bleeding group (p = 0.001). We determined that the cut-off value of GNRI was 92 accounting for a sensitivity 80.0%, specificity 82.9%, and likelihood ratio of 4.6 using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. A GNRI of <92 was statistically associated with PPH in both univariate (p < 0.001) and multivariate analysis (p = 0.01). Therefore, we could identify that a GNRI < 92 was an independently potential predictor of PPH risk following PD. We should alert surgeons if patients have low level GNRI before PD.

Abstract
Oncologic patients often suffer from malnutrition which in turn, might have negative impact on treatment outcomes. The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), as an index of impaired nutritional status, has emerged as a significant prognostic factor for short-and long-term outcomes in cancer patients. The aim of the current systematic review is to determine whether the GNRI is an independent prognostic factor of postoperative complications and survival in cancer patients. A systematic search was conducted to identify studies, published from 2005 to 2019, which assessed associations between GNRI and short- and long-term outcomes in cancer patients. Eighteen studies fulfilled the eligibility criteria and were included in the analysis. Low scores of GNRI were associated with increased risk for developing postoperative complications and impaired survival of cancer patients in most studies. Our findings support the use of the GNRI in the clinical practice, since it is a simple and reliable tool for assessing nutritional status in oncologic patients. More prospective, multi-centered studies are warranted to confirm the current results, as well as the role of nutritional support in improving the prognosis of cancer patients.

Prediction of postoperative complications and survival after laparoscopic gastrectomy using preoperative Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index in elderly gastric cancer patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND Preoperative nutritional assessment of cancer patients is important to reduce postoperative complications. Several studies have reported the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) to be useful in assessing underlying diseases and long-term outcomes of hospitalized patients. The present study aimed to evaluate the impact of preoperative GNRI on short- and long-term outcomes in elderly gastric cancer patients who underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients aged ≥ 65 years who underwent laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy and had R0 resection for histologically confirmed gastric adenocarcinoma. The cutoff value for preoperative GNRI was determined to be 85.7 based on the incidence of postoperative complications. Patients were categorized into two groups: low GNRI group and normal GNRI group. RESULTS Univariate analyses of the 303 patients revealed that the incidence of postoperative complications was significantly associated with the American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status classification (ASA-PS), C-reactive protein (CRP), GNRI (p < 0.001), and operative procedure. Multivariate analyses revealed that preoperative GNRI (odds ratio [OR] 2.716; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.166-6.328; p = 0.021) and operative procedure (OR 2.459; 95% CI 1.378-4.390; p = 0.002) were independently associated with the incidence of postoperative complications. Univariate analyses showed that overall survival (OS) was significantly associated with ASA-PS, tumor size, tumor differentiation, pathological tumor node metastasis (TNM) stage, carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), CRP, GNRI, and postoperative complications. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that ASA-PS (hazard ratio [HR], 3.755; 95% CI 2.141-6.585; p < 0.001), tumor differentiation (HR 1.898; 95% CI 1.191-3.025; p = 0.007), CEA (HR 1.645; 95% CI 1.024-2.643; p = 0.040), and GNRI (HR 2.093; 95% CI 1.105-3.963; p = 0.023) independently predicted OS. CONCLUSION GNRI is an important predictor of postoperative complications and overall survival in elderly gastric cancer patients. It is a reliable and cost-effective prognostic indicator that should be routinely evaluated.

Abstract
Postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) is a common complication following pancreatic resection. It leads to increased medical costs, and longer hospital stays. However, the risk factors of POPF are still unclear, and therefore, this urgent clinical issue should be resolved. The geriatric nutritional risk index (GNRI) is tool to assess the nutritional status using body weight, and serum albumin value, particularly in elderly patients. On the other hand, POPF is associated with body mass index (BMI). Thus, the present study aimed to investigate whether GNRI can predict the risk of POPF in patients after distal pancreatectomy (DP). We conducted a retrospective cohort study involving 37 patients who were treated at the Department of Digestive Surgery, Kawaguchi Municipal Medical Center between January 2007 and June 2018. All patients were subjected to nutritional screening using GNRI, and were followed up after DP for postoperative complications including POPF. In addition, risk factors of POPF, and patient's height, BMI, and preoperative laboratory values were analyzed. POPF was observed in 7 of the 37 (19%) patients. Those with a POPF had significantly lower GNRI values than those without POPF (P<0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine a cut-off value of GNRI, which indicated an increased risk of POPF. This value was determined as 96 (sensitivity: 71.4%, specificity: 86.7%, likelihood ratio: 5.36). Univariate analysis confirmed that a GNRI of <96 was significantly associated with POPF (P=0.005), and a multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that a GNRI of <96 was significant independent predictor of POPF (P=0.005), suggesting its utility for assessing the risk of POPF following DP.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) based on serum albumin level and body weight and the Controlling Nutritional Status Score (CONUT) based on serum albumin level, total cholesterol level, and total lymphocyte count were created to evaluate objectively a patient's nutritional status in 2005. Here we validated the usefulness of the GNRI and the CONUT as a prognostic factor of the 180-day mortality in patients who underwent hip fracture surgeries. We retrospectively collected data from patients with hip surgeries performed from January 2012 to December 2018. The variables required for the GNRI and the CONUT and the factors presumably associated with postoperative mortality including the patients' characteristics were collected from the medical charts. Intergroup differences were assessed with the χ2 test with Yates' correlation for continuity in category variables. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to test for differences in continuous variables. We validated the power of the GNRI and the CONUT values to distinguish patients who died ≤ 180 days post-surgery from those who did not, by calculating the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC). The correlation between these two models was analyzed by Spearman's rank correlation (ρ). RESULTS We retrospectively examined the cases of 607 patients aged 87 ± 6 (range 70-102) years old. The 180-day mortality rate was 5.4% (n = 33 non-survivors). The GNRI value in the non-survivors was 83 ± 9 (range 66-111), which was significantly lower than that in the survivors at 92 ± 9 (range 64-120). The CONUT value in the non-survivors was 6 ± 3 (range 1-11), which was significantly higher than that in the survivors at 4 ± 2 (range 0-11). The AUC value to predict the 180-day mortality was 0.74 for the GNRI and 0.72 for the CONUT. The ρ value between these two models was 0.61 in the total of 607 patients and was 0.78 in the 33 non-survivors. CONCLUSIONS Our results suggest that the GNRI and the CONUT are a simple and useful tool to predict the 180-day mortality in patients who have undergone a hip surgery.
