Abstract
Pueraria tuberosa (Roxb. ex Willd.) DC. (Fabaceae), also known as Indian Kudzu (vidari kand), is a perennial herb distributed throughout India and other Asian countries. Traditionally, tuber and leaves of this plant have extensively been reported for nutritional and medicinal properties in Ayurveda as well as in Chinese traditional practices. The objective of the present review is to compile and update the published data on traditional uses, pharmacological potential, and phytochemistry of compounds isolated from the plant Pueraria tuberosa. P. tuberosa extracts and its purified compounds possess multiple activities such as anticancer, anticonvulsant, antidiabetic, antifertility, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-stress, antiulcerogenic, cardioprotective, hypolipidemic, hepatoprotective, immunomodulatory, nephroprotective, nootropic, neuroprotective, and wound healing. Tuber and leaf extracts of P. tuberosa contain several bioactive constituents such as puerarin, daidzein, genistein, quercetin, irisolidone, biochanin A, biochanin B, isoorientin, and mangiferin, which possess an extensive range of pharmacological activities. The extensive range of pharmacological properties of P. tuberosa provides opportunities for further investigation and presents a new approach for the treatment of ailments. Many phytochemicals have been identified and characterized from P. tuberosa; however, some of them are still unexplored, and there is no supporting data for their activities and exact mechanisms of action. Therefore, further investigations are warranted to unravel the mechanisms of action of individual constituents of this plant.

Abstract
The pandemic spread of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has become a global threat. No cure is available for this condition till date. Ayurveda, may come to rescue in these times of COVID-19 spread. In this review we have analyzed that the COVID-19 has analogy with the Rajayakshma (∼a wasting disease indicating suboptimum immune response) and the established treatment of Rajayakshma disease can be proposed for preventive as well as curative purpose.

Abstract
Plants and their corresponding botanical preparations have been used for centuries due to their remarkable potential in both the treatment and prevention of oxidative stress-related disorders. Aging and aging-related diseases, like cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders, which have increased exponentially, are intrinsically related with redox imbalance and oxidative stress. Hundreds of biologically active constituents are present in each whole plant matrix, providing promissory bioactive effects for human beings. Indeed, the worldwide population has devoted increased attention and preference for the use of medicinal plants for healthy aging and longevity promotion. In fact, plant-derived bioactives present a broad spectrum of biological effects, and their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and, more recently, anti-aging effects, are considered to be a hot topic among the medical and scientific communities. Nonetheless, despite the numerous biological effects, it should not be forgotten that some bioactive molecules are prone to oxidation and can even exert pro-oxidant effects. In this sense, the objective of the present review is to provide a detailed overview of plant-derived bioactives in age-related disorders. Specifically, the role of phytochemicals as antioxidants and pro-oxidant agents is carefully addressed, as is their therapeutic relevance in longevity, aging-related disorders, and healthy-aging promotion. Finally, an eye-opening look into the overall evidence of plant compounds related to longevity is presented.

Abstract
The earlier assessment of Pueraria tuberosa (PT) has shown anti-diabetic effects through enhancing incretin action and DPP-IV (Dipeptidyl peptidase-IV) inhibition. The aim of this work was to further explore the protective role of aqueous extract of Pueraria tuberosa tuber (PTY-2) against streptozotocin (STZ) induced islet stress in rats. Diabetes was induced by STZ (65 mg/kg body weight) in charles foster male rats. After 60 days of STZ administration, animals with blood glucose levels > 200 g/dL were considered as diabetic. All the rats were later divided into three groups: Group-1 (STZ untreated normal rats), Group-2 (Diabetic control), and Group-3 (PTY-2 [50 mg/100 g bw treatment for next 10 days to diabetic rats). The rats were then sacrificed after the 10th day of treatment accordingly. STZ treatment led to an increase in expression of Matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9), Tumour necrosis factor-α (Tnf-α), Hypoxia inducible factor-α (HIF-1α), Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), Protein kinase C-ε (PKC-ε), Nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B-cells (NFkB), and Caspase-3. Reverse Transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR), Immunohistochemistry and Western-Blot analysis showed an increase in the expressions of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and Nephrin, and a decrease in the expressions of NFkB, PKC-ε, TNF-α, MMP-9, HIF-1α, VEGF, Caspase-3 and IL-6 after 10 days of PTY-2 treatment. The results showed that PTY-2 favorably changed all the expressions via anti-oxidant, anti-apoptotic, anti-hypoxic and anti-inflammatory pathways, making itself as a protective agent against STZ induced islet stress. Further evaluation of PTY-2 might be helpful in establishing its role in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of organic, inorganic, and selenium nanoparticle supplements at the final stage of pregnancy on selenium, zinc, copper, and iron concentrations of goats and placental, colostrum, and milk transfer of these trace minerals from goats to their kids. Forty pregnant Khalkhali goats (30 ± 5 kg) were randomly allocated to four treatments including (1) no supplement (control), 0.6 mg Se head-1 day-1 of selenomethionine (SM), 0.6 mg Se head-1 day-1 of selenium nanoparticles (SN), and 0.6 mg Se head-1 day-1 of sodium selenite (SS), from 4 weeks before the expected day of delivery to delivery day. Blood samples were taken from the goats 4 weeks before the expected day of delivery and on the kidding day. Colostrum samples were collected from the goats immediately after kidding. Instantly after delivery, newborn kids were taken apart from their dams and their blood samples were collected from the jugular vein, before they drank their first colostrums and at 7, 14, 21, and 28 after birthday. The results demonstrated that the whole blood and serum Se concentration was greater in Se-supplemented goats compared with the control (P < 0.05). The total Se content of the whole blood and serum was higher in SN than in SM (P < 0.05) and SS goats (P < 0.05). At birth, the whole blood and serum concentration of Se was decreased (P < 0.05) in kids of SN-treated goats contrasted with the control ones (P < 0.05). The copper content of goats and their kids in treated goats was greater compared with control goats except for SN treated, which was decreased (P < 0.05). It was totally vice versa with Zn content trend in the whole blood, serum, and colostrum (P < 0.05), which was also concomitant with an increase in Fe content of kids of supplemented goats at birth and first week of life (P < 0.05). These results seem to indicate a higher efficacy of placental and colostral transfer of Se into kids of SM-treated goats when contrasted with either receiving comparable doses of SN or SS. It could be concluded that Se supplementation can affect and correlate with Cu, Zn, and Fe levels, and this effect depends a lot on the chemical or physical variety of Se supplementation.

Abstract
The effect of organic selenium, prebiotics, or probiotics on productive performances, blood biochemistry, and carcass characteristics of growing rabbits was studied throughout summer and winter seasons. In an 8-week feeding trial, a total of 100 New Zealand White rabbits were randomly distributed to 10 groups. Two seasons (winter and summer) and five diets fortified with 0 (control), 0.03 mg selenium, 3 g Bio-Mos®, 1 g Bactocell® (1 × 1010 CFU) or 3 g yeast/kg diet were used in 2 × 5 factorial design. Results indicated that growth performance, feed intake (FI), and blood components (red blood cells [RBCs], serum total protein [TP], globulin [GLOB], albumin [ALB]) decreased significantly in rabbits reared during summer than in those during winter. In contrast, white blood cells, urea-N, creatinine, alanine transaminase [ALT], and aspartate transaminase [AST] increased significantly in summer. However, growth performance indices, FI, blood hemoglobin, RBCs, TP, ALB, and GLOB increased significantly in rabbits when fed the tested feed additives. The respiration rate, rectal temperature, and heart rate of the animals were significantly decreased with all feed additives. Adjusted weight of carcass, liver, kidney fat, and carcass cuts were not affected by feed additives. Final margin and margin efficiency increased in rabbit fed diets supplemented with feed additives than those fed the basal diet without any supplementation. Results of the current study concluded that a supplementation of rabbit diets with organic selenium, probiotics, and prebiotics can promote rabbit performance during mild weather and also alleviate the adverse impact of heat stress during summer season.

Abstract
AIMS Incretin therapy is one of the most potential approaches in the treatment of diabetes. In contrast to markedly available drugs, the herbal incretin modulators have lesser side effects with low economic cost. The main aim of this work was to analyze the potential of previously reported DPPIV inhibitor, aqueous extract of Pueraria tuberosa tubers (PTY-2) as incretin hormones receptor agonist against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes. METHODS Chronic diabetes was induced with STZ (65mg/kg bw) in rats for 60days and grouped into diabetic control and PTY-2. Expression of genes was assessed by PCR, IHC, and ELISA. Morphological analysis of tissue was observed using H & E stain. In silico molecular docking approach has been used to see the interaction of active phytochemicals of PTY-2 on the basis of their binding energy [kcal/mol] and dissociation constant [pM] using YASARA software. Interactive visualization was done using Discovery studio 3.0. RESULTS In comparison to diabetic control, the size and number of islet cells along with the plasma level of GLP-1, GIP, and pancreatic expressions of GLP-1R, GIP-R, Bcl2, and insulin were enhanced significantly after PTY-2 treatment. Through in silico molecular docking, tuberostan showed the best interaction for GLP-1R with binding energy at 8.15kcal/mol and dissociation constant at 1061624.125 pM. Puererone showed the best interaction for GIP-R with binding energy at 8.31kcal/mol and dissociation constant at 810381 pM. CONCLUSIONS In addition to previously studied DPPIV inhibitor, PTY-2 also acts as incretin receptors agonist and protects against STZ-induced diabetes by down regulating β cells apoptosis.

Abstract
Leptospirosis is a worldwide zoonosis which can affect many species. Control programs need accurate diagnosis to be successful, and currently, diagnosis relies on serology. It presents three main issues: the sampling, the antigen panel, and the cutoff point. Herein, we propose a systematic review on leptospirosis among dogs, pigs, and horses in Latin America in order to improve the understanding of the seroepidemiology of leptospirosis in these species in the region as well as the temporal development of the research on this topic and, consequently, improve the chances of success on control programs. Internet databases were consulted over 2015. Inclusion criteria included serosurvey using MAT; a relevant number of animals; the presence in the antigen panel of at least one representative of serogroups Icterohaemorrhagiae and Canicola for dogs, Icterohaemorrhagiae, Australis, and Pomona for pigs, and Icterohaemorrhagiae and Australis for horses; and a cutoff point of ≥100. Overall, 240 papers were studied, of which 87 referred to dogs, 66 to pigs, 39 to horses, and 48 to more than one of the studied species. In relation to those that met all the inclusion criteria, it was 45 (66.2%) in dogs, 23 (41.8%) in pigs, and 23 (63.9%) in horses. Leptospirosis is widespread in Latin America. Predominant serogroups are Canicola to dogs and Icterohaemorrhagiae to pigs and horses. Therefore, research on animal leptospirosis should be encouraged in Latin America, in order to reach a greater standardization in studies and then achieve better results on control programs.

Abstract
Traditional medicine has a history extending back to thousands of years, and during the intervening time, man has identified the healing properties of a very broad range of plants. Globally, the use of herbal therapies to treat and manage cardiovascular disease (CVD) is on the rise. This is the second part of our comprehensive review where we discuss the mechanisms of plants and herbs used for the treatment and management of high blood pressure. Similar to the first part, PubMed and ScienceDirect databases were utilized, and the following keywords and phrases were used as inclusion criteria: hypertension, high blood pressure, herbal medicine, complementary and alternative medicine, endothelial cells, nitric oxide (NO), vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) proliferation, hydrogen sulfide, nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), oxidative stress, and epigenetics/epigenomics. Each of the aforementioned keywords was co-joined with plant or herb in question, and where possible with its constituent molecule(s). This part deals in particular with plants that are used, albeit less frequently, for the treatment and management of hypertension. We then discuss the interplay between herbs/prescription drugs and herbs/epigenetics in the context of this disease. The review then concludes with a recommendation for more rigorous, well-developed clinical trials to concretely determine the beneficial impact of herbs and plants on hypertension and a disease-free living.

Hypotensive and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitory Activities of Eisenia fetida Extract in Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats. Abstract
Objectives. This study aimed to investigate the antihypertensive effects of an Eisenia fetida extract (EFE) and its possible mechanisms in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR rats). Methods. Sixteen-week-old SHR rats and Wistar-Kyoto rats (WKY rats) were used in this study. Rats were, respectively, given EFE (EFE group), captopril (captopril group), or phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) (normal control group and SHR group) for 4 weeks. ACE inhibitory activity of EFE in vitro was determined. The systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) were measured using a Rat Tail-Cuff Blood Pressure System. Levels of angiotensin II (Ang II), aldosterone (Ald), and 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha (6-keto-PGF1α ) in plasma were determined by radioimmunoassay, and serum nitric oxide (NO) concentration was measured by Griess reagent systems. Results. EFE had marked ACE inhibitory activity in vitro (IC50 = 2.5 mg/mL). After the 4-week drug management, SHR rats in EFE group and in captopril group had lower SBP and DBP, lower levels of Ang II and Ald, and higher levels of 6-keto-PGF1α and NO than the SHR rats in SHR group. Conclusion. These results indicate that EFE has hypotensive effects in SHR rats and its effects might be associated with its ACE inhibitory activity.
