Abstract
PURPOSE To report subjective and objective quality of vision (QoV) results for high myopic small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) between -9.00 and -13.00 diopters (D). METHODS This was a prospective study recruiting 114 patients undergoing SMILE with attempted spherical equivalent refraction (SEQ) correction from -9.00 to -13.00 D, and cylinder up to 5.00 D. Patients were informed before surgery of the increased risk of QoV symptoms. Patients completed the Rasch validated QoV questionnaire. Objective QoV was assessed by corneal and whole eye aberrations, HD Analyzer Objective Scatter Index (OSI) (Keeler), and contrast sensitivity. Patient satisfaction was assessed on a scale from 0 (very dissatisfied) to 10 (very satisfied). Individual item and total Rasch-scaled scores for the three subscales (frequency, severity, and bothersomeness) of the QoV questionnaire were calculated before and 12 months after surgery. RESULTS The mean patient satisfaction score was 9.27 ± 1.18 (range: 2 to 10), 8 or higher in 93%, and 7 or higher in 98% of patients. One patient with a satisfaction score of 2 had a simple refractive error re-treatment and then reported a satisfaction score of 10. The total mean ± standard deviation Rasch-scaled QoV score for the frequency, severity, and bothersomeness subscales before surgery was 24 ± 19, 20 ± 16, and 19 ± 18, respectively. Scores increased after surgery to 41 ± 18, 32 ± 16, and 30 ± 21, respectively (P < .001). Corneal aberrations (6 mm, OSI) increased on average by 0.39 µm for spherical aberration, 0.41 µm for coma, and 0.56 µm for higher order aberrations root mean square. OSI increased on average by 0.58. There was a small but statistically significant improvement in contrast sensitivity at 3, 6, 12, and 18 cycles per degree. There were no statistically significant correlations found between subjective scores for starbursts and objective measurements. CONCLUSIONS Satisfaction was high following SMILE for high myopia. As expected, there was an increase in QoV symptoms, mainly glare and starbursts. The acceptance of QoV symptoms for high myopic SMILE was high, indicating that residual refractive error and visual acuity are the major drivers for patient satisfaction with appropriate preoperative informed consent. Abstract
PURPOSE To report the outcomes of small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) for high myopia between -9.00 and -14.00 diopters (D). METHODS This was a prospective study of SMILE for high myopia using the VisuMax femtosecond laser (Carl Zeiss Meditec). Inclusion criteria were attempted spherical equivalent refraction (SEQ) between -9.00 and -14.00 D, cylinder up to 7.00 D, corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) of 20/40 or better, age 21 years or older, and suitable for SMILE. The sub-lenticule thickness was 220 µm or greater, and the total uncut stromal thickness was 300 µm or greater. Patients were to be followed up for 1 year. Standard outcomes analysis was performed using 12-month data where available or 3-month data otherwise. RESULTS Of 187 eyes treated, data were available at 12 months for 181 eyes (96.8%) and 3 months for 4 eyes (2.1%), and 2 eyes (1.1%) were lost to follow-up. Mean attempted SEQ was -10.55 ± 1.00 D (range: -9.00 to -12.99 D). Mean cylinder was -1.19 ± 0.83 D (range: 0.00 to -4.00 D). Preoperative CDVA was 20/20 or better in 73% of eyes. Postoperative uncorrected distance visual acuity was 20/20 or better in 57% and 20/25 or better in 82% of eyes. Mean SEQ relative to target was -0.22 ± 0.48 D (range: -1.63 to +1.38 D), 66% ± 0.50 D and 93% ±1.00 D. Mean SEQ 12-month change was -0.08 ± 0.34 D (range: -1.75 to +0.88 D). There was loss of one line of CDVA in 4% of eyes, and no eyes lost two or more lines. Contrast sensitivity was unchanged. Patient satisfaction was 8 or more out of 10 in 94% and 6 or more in 99% of patients. CONCLUSIONS Outcomes of SMILE for myopia greater than -9.00 D at 3 to 12 months showed excellent efficacy, safety, stability, and predictability, with high patient satisfaction. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Higher preoperative myopic astigmatism is associated with a higher probability of retreatment due to patient dissatisfaction as a result of residual cylindrical error. Nonetheless, retreatment is safe and the final clinical results are comparable to those of patients with lower preoperative astigmatism who were satisfied with the primary treatment. Our purpose is to compare the efficacy and safety of femtosecond LASIK (FS-LASIK) for the refractive correction of patients with low (< 1.5 Diopters (D) versus high (≥ 1.5 D) myopic astigmatism. METHODS Retrospective observational study of 841 eyes of 825 eligible patients treated with FSLASIK for the correction of simple or compound myopic astigmatism. Outcome measures included residual error, best corrected and uncorrected distance visual acuity (BCVA and UCVA), efficacy and safety 3 months after the primary procedure or the retreatment. RESULTS Of 841 eyes in total, 432 (51.37%) had < 1.5 D (Group 1) and 409 (48.63%) had ≥ 1.5 D (Group 2) preoperative myopic astigmatism. The efficacy index of primary treatment was 0.94 ± 0.18 in Group 1 and 0.89 ± 0.22 in Group 2 (P = 0.001). Of 138 eyes (16.41%) that were retreated due to dis-satisfaction related to residual refractive error, 28 belonged to Group 1 (6.5%) and 110 (26.9%) to Group 2 (P < 0.001). Following retreatment, small but statistically significant differences in the residual mean postoperative cylinder (-0.08 ± 0.24 vs -0.27 ± 0.46 D, P = 0.001) and UCVA (1.11 vs 0.96, P = 0.0001) were detected for Groups 1 and 2, respectively. However, there were no statistically significant differences in the safety and efficacy indices. CONCLUSION Following FS-LASIK, eyes with myopic astigmatism ≥ 1.5 D have approximately four times more chances of undergoing retreatment due to dis-satisfaction caused by residual refractive error compared to eyes with myopic astigmatism < 1.5 D. However, the clinical results after retreatment are highly satisfactory and comparable in both groups.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the long-term efficacy and safety of iris-fixated foldable phakic intraocular lenses (pIOLs) for the management of myopia and astigmatism after 6-year follow-up. SETTING Ophthalmology Department, Hospital Braga, Portugal. DESIGN Retrospective cohort study. METHODS Patients included underwent iris-fixated foldable Artiflex pIOL implantation between January 2010 and December 2013. Follow-up evaluations were performed 6 months postoperatively and every 12 months until 72 months. Preoperative and follow-up data on uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), manifest refraction, endothelial cell density (ECD), and anterior chamber depth (ACD) were analyzed. RESULTS A total of 177 eyes of 98 patients with a mean age of 32.33 ± 7.13 years were analyzed. There was a statistically significant improvement in CDVA from 0.09 ± 0.02 logMAR preoperatively to 0.04 ± 0.02 logMAR (P < .0001) at 6 years postoperatively. The spherical equivalent demonstrated a statistically significant improvement from -9.50 ± 2.93 diopters (D) to -0.41 ± 0.45 D at 6 years. At 72 months, the efficacy and safety indexes were 0.94 and 1.15, respectively. A mean loss of 31.77 cells/mm2 (1.19%) was observed each year until the sixth year. The overall mean ECD loss after correction for the physiological loss was 3.02% after 6 years. No correlations were observed between the mean ECD loss and the preoperative ACD. CONCLUSIONS The Artiflex pIOL was a safe, effective, and a stable option to correct myopia. A mean ECD loss of 3.02% was observed over 6 years. No pIOL was explanted due to corneal decompensation.

Abstract
Background To compare the changes in posterior corneal elevation after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) in correcting myopia over -9 diopters (D). Methods In this prospective comparative study, 82 eyes of 82 patients scheduled for refractive correction were recruited. Eyes were randomly assigned to the SMILE group (45 eyes, -10.43±0.92 D) or FS-LASIK group (37 eyes, -10.97±1.37 D). The posterior corneal surface was measured using a Scheimpflug camera (Pentacam, Oculus, Germany) preoperatively and at 1 day, 1 month, and 6 months after surgery. Posterior corneal elevation in the central point and central 4-mm area, and in various optical zones above the best-fit sphere, was analyzed. A P value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results All surgeries were completed successfully. The safety index and efficacy index were 1.20 and 1.00, respectively, in the SMILE group, and was 1.10 and 0.90, respectively, in the FS-LASIK group. No significant difference existed in all analyzed data before and at 6 months after surgery in both the SMILE group and the FS-LASIK group. Changes in posterior corneal elevation after FS-LASIK were greater than after SMILE, with no statistical significance (P≥0.07). In the SMILE group, residual bed thickness was found to be moderately negatively correlated with changes in the elevation in the central area (P≤0.045); whereas it was positively correlated in the peripheral area (P=0.002). Conclusions SMILE and FS-LASIK presented stable posterior corneal surface in correction of myopia over -9.0 D at the follow-up visit of 6 months.

Abstract
AIM To compare the clinical results of femtosecond (FS) laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) in high myopic patients and low myopic patients. METHODS This study included 212 myopic eyes undergoing LASIK using a VisuMax 500kHz FS laser. All treated eyes were assigned to one of two groups according to preoperative manifest spherical refraction: low myopia group (A, >-4.0 D) and high myopia group (B, ≤-4.0 D). Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA, CDVA), refractive errors, and higher-order aberrations (HOAs) were measured preoperatively and 1wk, 1, 3 and 6mo postoperatively. RESULTS At 6mo of follow-up, 92% and 76% had a UDVA of 20/20 or better in group A and B, respectively (P=0.037) and UDVA was significantly different between two groups (P=0.042). Six and seven percentage lost one line of CDVA in group A and B, respectively (P=0.572) and no eyes in both groups lost more than two lines. Each group had 87% and 76% of treated eyes within ±0.5 D of the intended correction (P=0.186), and 13% and 43% with a change of >0.50 D in spherical equivalent from 1wk to 6mo postoperatively (P=0.005). In terms of postoperative astigmatism, each group had 89.1% and 76.6% within ±0.50 D, respectively and there was significant difference (P=0.006). Group A tends to induce smaller HOAs than group B. CONCLUSION FS LASIK is effective and safe for correcting high myopia as well as low myopia. However, high myopic eyes showed more postoperative astigmatism and HOAs which affect visual acuity.

Abstract
Purpose To evaluate changes in corneal anatomy and quality of vision following LASIK refractive surgery for mild to high myopia using the WaveLight® Refractive Suite (Alcon® Laboratories Inc., USA). Setting. Rothschild Foundation, Paris, France. Design Prospective interventional case series. Methods We examined 60 myopic eyes (average SE −4.5 D, from −9.3 to −0.75 D) of 30 patients from 21.3 to 38.7 years old. Pachymetry, keratometry, Q factor, corneal aberrations, visual acuity (VA), contrast sensitivity, dry eye assessment, and quality of vision were measured preoperatively, one day (D1), and 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. Results 6 months postoperatively, keratometry became flatter, and the Q factor became more oblate (from −0.18 ± 0.08 to +0.19 ± 0.06). Pachymetry decreased by 117.9 ± 62.2 µm at D1 and increased by 37.87 ± 32.6 µm between D1 and M6. Refraction was emmetropic at D1 and remained stable thereafter. Six months after surgery, VA was slightly but nonsignificantly improved (<0.05 log MAR), whereas contrast sensitivity remained unchanged. Quality of vision was not affected by surgery and was more related to dry eye symptoms than to corneal HOAs (r2 = 0.49; p < 0.001 vs. r2 = 0.03; p < 0.001). Conclusions LASIK surgery for moderate to high myopia, performed with the WaveLight® Refractive Suite, showed good postoperative outcomes, with demonstrated safety, predictability, efficiency, and stability. This is probably due to well-controlled spherical aberration and the use of large optical zones. Besides, we can assume that the patients' quality of vision depends more on the postoperative dry eye disease generated by the laser than on the induced HOAs.

Methods Consecutive myopic and myopic-astigmatism eyes with spherical equivalent (SEQ) ranging between − 10.00 to − 13.50 D underwent LASIK with the WaveLight® Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q 400 Hz excimer laser. Treatment accuracy, efficacy, safety, stability, cylinder vectors, and higher-order aberrations were evaluated, together with subjective QoV and night vision disturbances (NVDs). Results 114 eyes had a preoperative SEQ of − 11.02 ± 0.81 D, with a median follow-up of 24 months. A total of 72, 84, and 94% of eyes were within ± 0.50, ± 0.75 and ± 1.00 D of intended SEQ (R2 = 0.71). The efficacy index was 0.93 ± 0.20, with 51 and 81% of eyes achieving 20/20 and 20/25. The astigmatism correction index was 0.95 ± 0.33. The safety index was 1.05 ± 0.12. The average myopic regression was − 0.51 ± 0.38 D. Preoperative QoV scores improved significantly postoperatively (7.5 ± 0.8 vs. 9.1 ± 0.7; P < 0.001), with less NVDs (P < 0.001). Total, spherical and coma root mean square (RMS) postoperative ocular higher-order aberrations were 1.07 ± 0.34, 0.67 ± 0.25, and 0.70 ± 0.40 μm. Conclusions Very high myopia LASIK between − 10.00 to − 13.50 D is safe and results in good visual outcomes, with high patient satisfaction and a significant improvement in patient-reported QoV after surgery. Appropriately selected patients within this very high myopia group can be included as LASIK candidates.

Abstract
PURPOSE To compare the efficacy and visual outcomes after femtosecond laser small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) in correcting high myopia. METHODS This prospective, randomized study included patients who underwent SMILE or FS-LASIK for the correction of high myopia [the sum of spherical and cylindrical error from -10.00 to -14.00 dioptres (D)]. Preoperative, 1-month (P1m), 3-months (P3m) and 6-months (P6m) postoperative outcomes were analysed and compared between the two procedures. RESULTS Ninety-six right eyes of 96 patients (SMILE: n = 51, FS-LASIK: n = 45) were included. Both the (Attempted - achieved) sphere and the (attempted - achieved) spherical equivalent (SEQ) were greater in the FS-LASIK group at all three postoperative time-points (p < 0.001). The postoperative vector means of astigmatism were smaller in the SMILE group than in the FS-LASIK group. The differences between the optical zone of tissue removal (ROZ) during surgery and the postoperative functional optical zone (FOZ; ROZ-FOZ) were smaller in the SMILE group than in the FS-LASIK group. No significant difference was found between the two procedures in the delta-root mean square (RMS) of aberrations, except for delta-spherical aberration (SA) at P3m. CONCLUSIONS Both SMILE and FS-LASIK are effective in correcting high myopia. SMILE resulted in less under-correction, less regression, a smaller decrease in the FOZ and a smaller increase in SA when compared to FS-LASIK, resulting in better visual outcomes with SMILE.

Abstract
The purpose was to define a normative database for a grating test for contrast sensitivity, based on a chart monitor with high-definition liquid crystal display, and validate its measurements by assessing their repeatability and determining responsiveness to cataract surgery. Three samples were analyzed: (1) healthy volunteers to assess the repeatability of measurements, (2) healthy subjects to develop the normative database, (3) patients undergoing cataract surgery. All subjects were tested with the grating contrast sensitivity test (Vision Chart, CSO) at 1.5, 3, 6, 12 and 18 cycles per degree. The instrument software progressively reduces the contrast of the gratings according to the Quick Estimate by Sequential Testing (QUEST) procedure. In the subjects of the first sample, three consecutive measurements were taken and repeatability was assessed on the basis of the intra-session test-retest variability and the coefficient of variation. The test offered high repeatability, with test-retest variability ranging between 0.05 and 0.23 Log CS and the coefficient of variation between 0.61 and 4.21%. Normative data did not show a normal distribution. The highest median values were observed at 1.5, 3 and 6 cycles per degree frequencies. At these frequencies a ceiling effect was evident. In cataract patients, postoperative values showed an improvement at all spatial frequencies. In conclusion, the new contrast sensitivity test provides repeatable measurements that can be used for clinical purposes. In patients with healthy eyes and good vision, attention has to be paid to the ceiling effect.

Abstract
PURPOSE Excimer laser-based refractive procedures can have less predictable results when used for correcting high myopia than when used for moderate myopia. Small incision lenticule extraction might overcome this weakness. However, small incision lenticule extraction is only Food and Drug Administration approved for use in myopic eyes up to -8 D with astigmatism of -3 D or less. We report outcomes of small incision lenticule extraction in highly and moderately myopic eyes and compare these to modern laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis. METHODS Retrospective, observational consecutive case series. Inclusion criteria: attempted myopic spherical correction ⩾-8 or-3 to -7.75 D with astigmatism ⩽-3 D, and corrected distance visual acuity of 1.0 (decimal scale) or better. RESULTS A total of 62 highly myopic and 407 moderately myopic eyes were included. At 3 months postoperatively, the highly myopic eyes had a mean spherical equivalent refraction of -0.28 ± 0.41 D (range: -1.13 to +0.75 D). Mean uncorrected distance visual acuity was 1.0. Mean efficacy index was 0.84. Mean safety index was 1.03. Uncorrected distance visual acuity same or better than corrected distance visual acuity: 61%. Astigmatism was ⩽0.5 D in 90% and ⩽1 D in 100%. The results in the moderately myopic eyes were comparable. CONCLUSION We found equally good visual and refractive outcomes after small incision lenticule extraction for the correction of high and of moderate myopia combined with an astigmatic correction of up to 3 D, respectively.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the long-term visual and refractive outcomes, optical quality, and stability of the cornea and axial length after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) for the correction of high myopia with a maximum myopic meridian exceeding 10.00 diopters (D). METHODS Via a prospective cohort study, 53 eyes (53 patients) with a maximum myopic meridian exceeding 10.00 D were corrected with a VisuMax femtosecond laser (version 3.0; Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) at the Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center of Sun Yat-sen University. Refractive outcomes, aberrations, axial length, and corneal curvature were evaluated preoperatively and at 1, 3, and 15 months postoperatively. RESULTS At 15 months postoperatively, the efficacy and safety indexes were 0.91 ± 0.25 and 1.15 ± 0.18, respectively. A total of 72% of eyes were within ±0.50 D and 89% were within ±1.00 D of the attempted spherical equivalent, respectively. From 1 to 15 months postoperatively, the significant regression was -0.24 ± 0.28 D (P < .001) on manifest refraction and -0.43 ± 0.54 D (P < .001) on anterior corneal curvature. In addition, a significant increase of 0.20 µm (P = .016) was observed in the spherical aberration. No significant change was observed in posterior corneal curvature (P > .999), including mean keratometry or astigmatism, or in the ocular axis length from 1 to 15 months postoperatively (26.82 ± 0.93 and 26.82 ± 0.95 mm, respectively, P > .99). CONCLUSIONS SMILE had long-term safety, efficacy, and predictability when treating high myopia with a maximum myopic meridian exceeding 10.00 D. Both a manifest refraction regression of -0.24 D and a significant spherical aberration increase of 0.20 µm were observed between 1 and 15 months postoperatively, due to the increased anterior corneal curvature. Abstract
Purpose To report long-term visual and refractive results of small-incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) in treatment of high myopia. Materials and Methods Medical records of patients who underwent SMILE for surgical correction of myopia or myopic astigmatism were retrospectively reviewed. Only patients with a preoperative spherical equivalent of subjective manifest refraction (SE) ≥ 6 D and a postoperative follow-up of 5 years were included in the study. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), and SE were analyzed preoperatively and at 1-, 3-, and 5-year postoperative periods. Results Thirty-seven eyes of 37 patients were included in the study. The mean attempted SE was −7.47 ± 1.10 D (range −6.00 to −10.00 D). At the 5-year visit, the mean difference between achieved and attempted SE was −0.43 ± 0.47 (0.50 to −1.25 D). Mean postoperative UDVA and CDVA were 0.20 ± 0.18 and 0.06 ± 0.08 logMAR, respectively. At the 1-year visit, 70% and 97% of the eyes were within ±0.50 D and ±1.00 D of the intended correction. At the 5-year follow-up, 59% and 92% percent of the eyes were within ±0.50 D and ±1.00 D of the intended SE, respectively. At the 5-year visit, the efficacy index was 0.89 ± 0.26 and the safety index was 1.16 ± 0.20. Fifty-four percent of the eyes gained one or more lines of CDVA. Conclusion SMILE with an intended correction of up to a spherical equivalent of 10 D is safe and effective. However, there is regression of the refractive effect over extended follow-up.

Abstract
Aim To evaluate the predictive factors of LASIK procedure for high myopia with or without astigmatism using a combination of high-frequency femtosecond-assisted LASIK followed by an excimer laser. Methods This study was a retrospective interventional case series study to evaluate myopic eyes undergoing high platform LASIK with FEMTO LDV Z2 intervention, followed by WaveLight®EX500 excimer laser machine. Subjects were divided into 2 groups: high myopia (SE of -6.01 to -9.00 D) and very high myopia (SE of -9.01 D or higher). Myopic eyes (Spherical Equivalent/SE) less than -13 D were included in this study. Visual Acuity (VA) was evaluated 1 day and 60 days after the procedure. Predictive factors, such as age, degree of sphere, degree of astigmatism, keratometric reading and axial length were analyzed to detect any influences affecting the final VA results. Results A total of 316 myopia eyes underwent intervention, mean age: 25.3±3.8 years. Target treatment was achieved in 96.1% of patients with high myopia and 69.9% of patients with very high myopia. High degree of sphere and astigmatism constitutes an important factor influencing final VA. Conclusion Modern machines provide a more promising efficacy and success of LASIK procedure in high myopia: important predictive factors were a high degree of sphere and astigmatism for achieving the optimal final outcome.

Abstract
Purpose To compare toric implantable collamer lens (T-ICL), femto-LASIK, and ReLEx SMILE for the treatment of low to moderate myopic astigmatism in terms of long-term visual and refractive outcomes and predictability of astigmatic correction. Materials and methods The study included 30 eyes from 30 patients between the age groups of 21 and 40 years, undergoing bilateral surgery with any of the three procedures – T-ICL, femto-LASIK, or ReLEx SMILE – for correction of myopic astigmatism within the range of −3 to −8 D spherical equivalent (SE), with a minimum astigmatism of −0.75 D. Patients were followed up at day 1, 1 month, 6 months, and 1 year. Results At 1 year, the mean cylinder reduced to −0.21±0.28, −0.17±0.36, and −0.22±0.28 D in the T-ICL, femto-LASIK, and ReLEx SMILE group, respectively. The predictability of astigmatism correction was comparable, with no statistically significant difference between the 3 groups (P>0.05). A total of 97% of eyes in ReLEx SMILE achieved a uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/20 or better, compared to T-ICL (93%) and FS-LASIK (90%). However, gain in lines of corrected distant visual acuity (CDVA) was maximum in T-ICL group (60%). Four eyes in the femto-LASIK group had loss of CDVA by one line. Three eyes required exchange due to high vault and rotation of the T-ICL, which did not affect the final outcome. Conclusion All 3 modalities were effective for myopic astigmatism at the end of 1 year. Quality of vision and patient satisfaction with T-ICL and ReLEx SMILE were similar and better than FS-LASIK. However, slight chances of postoperative rotation and exchange exist with T-ICL, which warrant thorough preoperative planning.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Many previous reports have demonstrated significant neural anatomy changes in the brain of high myopic (HM) patients, whereas the spontaneous brain activity changes in the HM patients at rest are not well studied. Our objective was to use amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) method to investigate the changes in spontaneous brain activity in HM patients and their relationships with clinical features. METHODS A total of 38 patients with HM (17 males and 21 females) and 38 healthy controls (HCs) (17 males and 21 females) closely matched in age, sex, and education underwent resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging scans. The ALFF method was used to assess local features of spontaneous brain activity. The relationship between the mean ALFF signal values in many brain regions and the clinical features in HM patients was calculated by correlation analysis. RESULTS Compared with HCs, the HM patients had significantly lower ALFF in the right inferior and middle temporal gyrus, left middle temporal gyrus, left inferior frontal gyrus/putamen, right inferior frontal gyrus/putamen/insula, right middle frontal gyrus, and right inferior parietal lobule and higher ALFF values in the bilateral midcingulate cortex, left postcentral gyrus, and left precuneus/inferior parietal lobule. However, no relationship was found between the mean ALFF signal values of the different areas and the clinical manifestations in HM. CONCLUSION The HM patients were affected with brain dysfunction in many regions, which may indicate the presence of neurobiological changes involving deficits in language understanding and attentional control in HM patients.
