Exploring the relevance of a psychology-based resilience app (JoyPop™) for Indigenous youth

BACKGROUND

Despite facing challenges to mental wellness from ongoing multifold trauma, Indigenous youth continue to galvanize their resilience. One pathway undertaken is embracing technology. The JoyPop™ youth resilience mobile application (app) was invited by Six Nations of the Grand River (SN) leadership to consider its use with their reserve youth.

OBJECTIVE

This study explored the feasibility of JoyPop™ research from the SN community adult perspective for appropriateness and relevance to SN youth, as a precursor to a user-experience study with community youth.

METHODS

Semi-structured, online interviews with 19 adult community members (26 % male) about JoyPop™ were conducted with nominated stakeholders from SN. Based on a standard presentation of the app, comments were solicited about app features, design, and relevance to Haudenosaunee culture. Interviews were transcribed, coded in a double-blind fashion, and analyzed for themes.

RESULTS

Most offered positive feedback, with some level of support for each feature of JoyPop™. Themes were identified (Need for Indigenous Design, Incorporation of Indigenous Culture, Appreciation of Ease, Flexibility and Personalization), stemming from comments of appraisal and suggestions for adaptations (e.g., incorporating more cultural elements, localized resources, simplification of app).

CONCLUSIONS

The JoyPop™ app was viewed as positive and relevant, based on feedback from adults within SN. Adaptations were identified by adults to better fit SN youth needs, and research with SN youth is pending before implementation of adaptations. Research with other communities is encouraged to expand the reach of technology interventions, to holistically support Indigenous youth mental health in a culturally relevant way.

Information and Communication Technology Use on New Generation Teachers’ Job Satisfaction and Psychological Emotion

Despite the growing trend of Information and communication technology (ICT), little is known about its impact on job satisfaction and the mechanisms through which ICT operates. This study aimed to investigate new generation teachers’ ICT use on efficacy and job satisfaction. We conducted a cross-sectional survey on 234 new generation teachers in China. The Results revealed that ICT use had a positive direct impact on job satisfaction of new generation teachers. Teachers’ efficacy plays a partial mediating role and error aversion culture moderates the relationship between ICT use and teachers’ efficacy. This study complements our attempt to understanding the effect, mechanism and boundary condition of ICT use on new generation teachers’ work outcomes. It also provides a new direction for studying ICT use on employees belonging to other generations.

The Multimodal Sentiment Analysis of Online Product Marketing Information Using Text Mining and Big Data

Currently, the internet is increasingly popular. More people are used to sharing their feelings about various things on the internet. Online product marketing information is also growing. How to mine the required information from the massive information with the support of big data technology has become a big problem. Thereby, based on the text mining of online product marketing information, this work discusses the text preprocessing methods and the temporal convolution network (TCN) based on a convolutional neural network (CNN). Moreover, on this basis, multimodal attention mechanism (AM) and cross-modal transformer structure are added to build a TCN based on AM (AM-TCN) model to analyze the multimodal emotion of online product marketing information. The results show that the accuracy of the AM-TCN model is 2.88% higher than that of the TCN model alone, and F1 is 3.47% higher. Moreover, the accuracy rate of the AM-TCN is 1.22% higher than that of the next highest recurrent multistage fusion network, and the F1 value is 0.95% higher.
