Abstract
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a heterogeneous and complex disease characterized by the absence of immunohistochemical expression of estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and HER2. These breast tumors present an aggressive biology and offer few opportunities to be treated with targeted therapy resulting in bad disease outcomes. The epidemiology of TNBC is intriguing where the understanding of its biology has progressed quickly. One of the peculiarities of this type of cancer is a high prevalence in Afrodescendants and Hispanic patients compared to Caucasian women. In this review we describe some features of TNBC, focusing in the Hispanic population, such as epidemiological, clinicopathological features and molecular features and the correlation between TNBC prevalence and the human development index.

Abstract
Worldwide, breast cancer (BC) is the leading cause of cancer death among women. For many patients the most effective treatment is a resection surgery that removes the tumor. Within this subset, patients sometimes receive chemotherapy treatment (CT) prior to surgery aiming to reduce tumor size in order to preserve healthy breast tissue. This strategy is commonly called neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This approach also offers an opportunity to determine treatment sensitivity, especially in aggressive tumors. Post NAC absence of residual disease is associated to long term survival in BC patients and is used to define the need of adjuvant therapy options. Studies suggest that NAC allows the recognition of tumor antigens by immune cells potentiating the eradication of the tumor. However, the dynamic changes in patients' immune cells under NAC remain unclear. Here, we assessed changes in leucocyte and cytokine profiles in order to determine its association to NAC response in BC patients. Peripheral blood patient samples were taken prior to each NAC cycle to assess the abundance of leukocyte subsets and serum cytokines in 20 patients. These immunological features were associated with clinical outcomes including pathological response. We found a positive correlation between plasma Interleukin 10 (IL-10) and classical monocytes in HER2+ BC patients under NAC. We also observed a trend between increased IL-10 and classical monocytes levels and lower rates of pathologic complete response at the end of NAC. These data support the notion that monocyte subsets and IL-10 could be applied as a novel indicator of NAC efficacy in HER2+ BC patients. Finally, we confirm a key role of the immune system in cancer progression and CT response.

Abstract
Breast cancer (BC) is the most common malignancy in women. We retrieved medical records from >2,000 Chilean BC patients over the 1997–2018 period. The objective was to assess changes in clinical presentation or prognosis of our patients throughout these 20 years of practice. Although most variables did not display significant variations, we observed a progressive increase in stage IV BC over this period. Our data showed that tumour stage III/IV or HER2-enriched subtype tumours were associated with poorer prognosis. In contrast, we found that patients diagnosed by mammography had better overall survival. We speculate that better screenings and more sensitive imaging could explain the unexpected rise in stage IV cases. Our results support mammography screenings as an effective measure to reduce BC-related mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although the function of microRNA-21 and microRNA-206 in breast cancer cells have been investigated in vitro, their association with estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) are not reported. METHODS ER, PR, HER2, and Ki-67 staining pattern were utilized to classify 75 breast cancer patients recruited. The malignancy was predicted with tumor nodes metastases (TNM) classification. RT-qPCR was performed to detect the relative expression of ER, PR, and HER2 in tumor samples and microRNA-21 and microRNA-206 in the serum. Spearman's correlation analysis was used to determine the association between different molecules. According to the staining pattern, the breast cancer patients were classified into five types. RESULTS microRNA-21 was up-regulated in HER2 positive and Basal-like breast cancer types, while microRNA-206 was up-regulated in Luminal A and B types of breast cancer. microRNA-21 expression negatively correlated with the level of ER and PR but positively correlated with HER2 expression and tumor malignancy, while microRNA-206 showed the opposite trend. Neither microRNA-21 nor microRNA-206 showed any significant correlation with the age of the patients. CONCLUSION Both microRNA-21 and microRNA-206 closely correlate with ER, PR, and HER2 expression, which can be considered as clinical biomarkers.

Abstract
Objective: Tumor response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in breast cancer (BC) patients is a predictor for overall survival. The aim of our study was to determine a relationship between the neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) prior to NAC, BC subtypes and the probability of a pathologic complete response (pCR). Materials and Methods: Medical records were collected retrospectively from Centro de Cancer at Red Salud UC-Christus. Clinical data collected included peripheral blood cell counts, BC subtype at diagnosis and the pathology report of surgery after chemotherapy. Results: A total of 88 patients were analyzed. Approximately, a 25% had a pCR, and displayed a significant correlation between BC subtype and pCR (p= 0.0138 Chi2); this was more frequent in epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2) enriched subtype patients (54%). Luminal B BC patients with a pCR had significantly lower NLR levels (t test, p= 0.0181). Conclusions: HER2-enriched tumors had a higher probability of pCR. In Luminal B tumors, NLR had a statistically significant relationship with the probability of pCR. In this subtype, NLR could be a useful biomarker to predict tumor response to NAC. Further studies including other clinical parameters for systemic inflammation such as platelet counts, intratumoral NLR or body mass index could help identify patients that would get the most benefit from NAC.

Abstract
Advances in high-throughput technologies and their involvement in the 'omics' of cancer have made possible the identification of hundreds of biomarkers and the development of predictive and prognostic platforms that model the management of cancer from evidence-based medicine to precision medicine. Latin America (LATAM) is a region characterised by fragmented healthcare, high rates of poverty and disparities to access to a basic standard of care not only for cancer but also for other complex diseases. Patients from the public setting cannot afford targeted therapy, the facilities offering genomic platforms are scarce and the use of high-precision radiotherapy is limited to few facilities. Despite the fact that LATAM oncologists are well-trained in the use of genomic platforms and constantly participate in genomic projects, a medical practice based in precision oncology is a great challenge and frequently limited to private practice. In breast cancer, we are waiting for the results of large basket trials to incorporate the detection of actionable mutations to select targeted treatments, in a similar way to the management of lung cancer. On the other hand and paradoxically, in the 'one fit is not for all' era, clinical and genomic studies continue grouping our patients under the single label 'Latin American' or 'Hispanic' despite the different ancestries and genomic backgrounds seen in the region. More regional cancer genomic initiatives and public availability of this data are needed in order to develop more precise oncology in locally advanced breast cancer.
