Abstract
BACKGROUND Hospitalization of newborns in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) exposes parents to considerable stress. This study aimed to determine the predictive role of parental stress and intolerance of uncertainty on the psychological well-being of parents with a newborn in NICU using hierarchical linear regression analysis. METHODS This cross-sectional study included 130 parents of newborns hospitalized in the NICU. Data were collected using Parental Stress Scale, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, and Psychological Wellbeing Scale. The data were analyzed in SPSS v.26 using hierarchical linear regression analysis. RESULTS The mean scores of the parents' psychological well-being, parental stress, and intolerance of uncertainty were 79.08 (SD = 11.70), 63.06 (SD = 26.71), and 75.38 (SD = 19.40), respectively. The result of the hierarchical linear regression analysis revealed that, in step 1, academic education had a significant proportion of the variance of parents' psychological well-being (β = 0.26, P = 0.005). In step 2, it was shown that academic education (β=-0.25, P = 0.006) and parental stress (β=-0.25, P = 0.006) had a significant proportion of the variance of parents' psychological well-being. According to step 2, education levels, parental stress, and intolerance of uncertainty explained 22% of the changes in parents' psychological well-being. CONCLUSION There was a significant association between the parents' psychological well-being and education levels, intolerance of uncertainty, and parental stress. Academic education and parental stress were the predictors of parents' psychological well-being. Based on these findings, early detection of parents' education and stress are important for their psychological well-being.

Abstract
Although family nursing research has become an important focus for over the past 20 years, the evolution and extent of family nursing research in the World Health Organization (WHO) Afro-regions is less explored. The purpose of this scoping review was to map the evidence of family-focused nursing research using the Joanna Briggs Institute Scoping Review methodology. A systematic electronic search of articles was carried out for the period January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2020. The review process culminated in 85 articles, evidencing an increase in publications particularly in 2019 (n = 12). Eighteen countries were involved, with the Southern African region contributing 52% of the studies. Family members were predominantly described as parents, siblings, and children, with the most focused area of study being family experiences (n = 52). The majority of studies (n = 59) used qualitative methodologies. Despite the recent increase in family-focused nursing research in the WHO Afro-regions, further qualitative research, including more complex methodologies and interventions are still required to build contextualized evidence-based family-focused nursing.

Abstract
AIM This study had two objectives: (1) to investigate the psychosocial difficulties experienced by parents of babies treated in a neonatal intensive care unit during the coronavirus pandemic and (2) to determine parent-infant attachment. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study adopted phenomenology, a qualitative research design in order to answer the research questions design. The sample consisted of 20 parents of babies treated in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a City Hospital in Turkey between July and August 2021. Participation was voluntary. Data were collected using a sociodemographic characteristics questionnaire and a semi-structured qualitative interview form. Each participant was interviewed face to face. Each interview was recorded and transcribed. The data were analyzed using content analysis. RESULTS Participants had a mean age of 32.2 ± 3.61 years and at least secondary school degrees. Babies were admitted to the NICU for congenital anomalies (n = 3) or preterm birth (n = 7). Participants experienced anxiety, worry, and loneliness and produced less milk because they could not see and touch their babies. Their greatest source of support was their spouses. CONCLUSION Parents of babies treated in the NICU during the COVID-19 pandemic experience anxiety, sadness, unhappiness, and loneliness. The preventive measures against the pandemic affect parents psychosocially. Healthcare professionals should plan and implement care practices and establish effective communication with parents to identify their physiological, psychological, and social needs and help them produce breastmilk and bond with their babies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Intervention efforts to improve the psychosocial well-being of parents with an infant in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) are high priority. This study assessed public and healthcare professionals' perceptions of prominent NICU stressors to highlight areas where NICU parents are in need of further support. Relations with sample characteristics were also examined to establish the generalizability of known parent demographic/sociofamilial risk factors. METHODS A cross-sectional design was used to assess public (n = 96) and staff (n = 55) responses on the Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PSS:NICU). RESULTS The public perceived parental stress as being low to moderate. This was significantly lower than the staff estimate and highly comparable with past parent reports. Staff communication was perceived as most stressful by the public with this influenced by gender and education. Staff with more NICU experience were more likely to overestimate parental stress, particularly those working at the highest care level. CONCLUSIONS Collectively, these findings highlight preconceived anxiety around staff communication and behaviors and indicate that education on the potential for traumatic unit experiences to influence staff-parent communication may be important.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of supportive interventions on the stress levels of mothers with infants hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This study was a prospective, pre-and post-test randomized controlled trial. The research was completed with 85 mothers in two groups of 45 subjects and 40 controls selected at random. Data collection used the Parental Stressor Scale: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (PSS:NICU), NICU Parent Belief Scale (NICU:PBS), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI TX-2) and saliva cortisol analysis. There were statistically significant differences in favor of the experiment group for the PSS:NICU images and sounds subscale and PBS total points after supportive interventions (p < .05). Supportive nursing interventions were effective in reducing stress related to the intensive care environment, anxiety levels and saliva cortisol levels and increasing parental belief among mothers.

Abstract
AIM: This study aimed to determine the stressor of mothers whose baby was treated in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) ward and identify the demography parameter which affected the stressor.
METHODS: This cross-sectional study was done in four hospitals in Makassar City. Stressor was evaluated using Parental Scale Stressor (PSS): NICU. Samples were taken consecutively for 30 babies treated in NICU ward for more than 24 h.
RESULTS: On the average, the mothers’ stressors were the situation and view of NICU (2.87), appearance and behavior of the baby (2.78), the role of parents (2.74), and communication relationship between the parents and nurse (2.80). Meanwhile, demography factors (maternal age, age of pregnancy, parity, and experience) did not affect the maternal stress statistically.
CONCLUSION: Premature babies who are treated in NICU ward can be the source of maternal stress, thus provision of education to the mothers can decrease the stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neonatal Care Units (NCUs) provide special care to sick and small newborns and help reduce neonatal mortality. For parents, having a hospitalized newborn can be a traumatic experience. In sub-Saharan Africa, there is limited literature about the parents' experience in NCUs. OBJECTIVE Our study aimed to explore the experience of parents in the NCU of a rural district hospital in Rwanda. METHODS A qualitative study was conducted with parents whose newborns were hospitalized in the Ruli District Hospital NCU from September 2018 to January 2019. Interviews were conducted using a semi-structured guide in the participants' homes by trained data collectors. Data were transcribed, translated, and then coded using a structured code book. All data were organized using Dedoose software for analysis. RESULTS Twenty-one interviews were conducted primarily with mothers (90.5%, n = 19) among newborns who were most often discharged home alive (90.5%, n = 19). Four themes emerged from the interviews. These were the parental adaptation to having a sick neonate in NCU, adaptation to the NCU environment, interaction with people (healthcare providers and fellow parents) in the NCU, and financial stressors. CONCLUSION The admission of a newborn to the NCU is a source of stress for parents and caregivers in rural Rwanda, however, there were several positive aspects which helped mothers adapt to the NCU. The experience in the NCU can be improved when healthcare providers communicate and explain the newborn's status to the parents and actively involve them in the care of their newborn. Expanding the NCU access for families, encouraging peer support, and ensuring financial accessibility for neonatal care services could contribute to improved experiences for parents and families in general.

Abstract
BACKGROUND An infant admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a potentially stressful event for parents. Severe stress is experienced by parents, affecting their mental health and relationship, and infants' development. The current study aims to assess the stress levels among parents of neonates admitted to NICU and to identify the factors influencing their stress levels. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital of Eastern India over 2 months. Stress levels were assessed using Parental Stressor Scale: NICU questionnaire among 100 NICU parents (mother or father) with more than 24 h of admission. Stress was quantified using the Likert scale. The statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS software. RESULTS In this study, 60.8% parents experienced severe and extreme stress level for overall stress. The mean for overall stress experienced was 3.71 ± 0.70. There was no significant difference in overall stress between father and mother (P = 0.65). The highest levels of stress experienced were in sight and sound subscale (3.23 ± 0.41) followed by relationship with the baby and parental role," i.e., 2.46 30. There was no significant association in overall stress score with maternal age, parity, education level, previous baby being admitted to the NICU (P > 0.05). Stress in sight and sound domain was statistically significantly higher (P = 0.009) among parents of babies with stay of ≤7 days. CONCLUSION These results support wider use in research and clinical practice to identify parental stress. Interventions can be developed to ameliorate its negative effects on individual, interpersonal, and societal levels. The stress score was not significantly different between fathers and mothers of neonates admitted to NICU and the length of stay was significantly associated with sight and sound domain. Appropriate counseling should be targeted toward both parents. Future intervention studies should be planned to decrease the stress level among parents.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Newborn hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) raises a mother's risk of reduced health-related quality of life (QoL). We explored the contributors inducing stress among mothers related to NICU. METHODOLOGY One hundred thirty-five mothers, whose newborn has completed 48 hours of NICU stay, were interviewed using parental stress scale: neonatal intensive care unit and SF-36 health survey questionnaire for further assessment. RESULTS The look and behavior of the baby were predominant contributor to the decreased QoL among mothers (p= <.001). A moderate negative association between parental stresses related to the NICU environment and their QoL ρ = -.467 was observed. CONCLUSION It is required to look back at the interiors of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the duration provided for the mother and child's physical bonding, the unnecessary noise of the alarms and the jungle of wires around the baby to optimize the QoL of mothers. The further policy requires focusing on building a relation of the mother and child, especially when a child needs supportive care.
