Diffuse hepatic and splenic Tc-99m MDP tracer uptake in case of multiple myeloma

Effects of methane emissions on multiple myeloma-related mortality rates: A World Health Organization perspective

In this research, it was aimed to evaluate effects of methane emissions on multiple myeloma related mortality rates. Two countries in Europe (Germany and Netherlands) and 1 country for each region (Turkey, USA, Brazil, Egypt, and Australia) were selected within The World Health Organization Database. Multiple myeloma mortality rates of countries between 2009 and 2019 were used as dependent variable of the research. Methane emission level and agriculture methane levels of countries were used as independent variables from The World Bank Database. Current health expenditure and healthy life expectancy were used as controlling variables. Multiple myeloma-related mortality rate was the highest in the USA, followed by Germany, Brazil, Turkey, Australia, Netherlands, and Egypt. Difference analysis results were significant (P < .05). Methane and agriculture methane emissions were the highest in the USA. Multiple myeloma mortality was positively correlated with methane emissions (R = 0.504; P < .01), agricultural methane emissions (R = 0.705; P < .01), and current health expenditure (R = 0.528; P < .01). According to year and country controlled correlation analysis results, multiple myeloma mortality (MMM) was positively correlated with methane emissions (R = 0.889; P < .01), agricultural methane emissions (R = 0.495; P < .01), and current health expenditure (R = 0.704; P < .01). Methane emission (B = 0.01; P < .05), Germany (B = 9010.81; P < .01), the USA (B = 26516.77; P < .01), and Brazil (B = 4886.14; P < .01) had significant effect on MMM. Nonagricultural methane production has an increasing effect on MMM. Therefore, by looking at the differences between agricultural methane emissions and general methane emissions, studies can be conducted that allow for more effective global comparisons.

The effect of MRI contrast agents on hepatic and splenic uptake in the rabbit during (99m) Tc-MDP bone scintigraphy

The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of Omniscan® and Magnevist® on (99m) Tc-MDP uptake in rabbits during (99m) Tc-MDP bone scintigraphy. In Experiment Group 1, 30 healthy adult rabbits were randomized into six subgroups (n = 5); each subgroup experienced a different time interval between injections (30 min, 60 min, 120 min, 240 min, 360 min, 24 h). All six subgroups were injected first with Omniscan®, then with (99m) Tc-MDP. After 7 days, the same six subgroups were injected with normal saline followed by (99m) Tc-MDP at the same time intervals. In Experiment Group 2, 20 healthy adult rabbits were allocated randomly to four subgroups (n = 5); each subgroup experienced a different time interval between injections (30 min, 60 min, 120 min, 240 min). All four subgroups were injected first with Magnevist®, then with (99m) Tc-MDP. After 7 days, the same four subgroups were injected with normal saline followed by (99m) Tc-MDP. In all experiments, whole-body skeletal imaging was performed. Liver, spleen, and background were delineated to determine the target-to-background (T/B) ratio. Diffusely increased intake of the imaging agent was seen in the liver and spleen when the injection-time interval between Omniscan® and (99m) Tc-MDP varied from 30 min to 240 min and when the time interval between Magnevist® and (99m) Tc-MDP was 30 min-60 min. The imaging findings are consistent with the results of L/B and S/B ratios in each experiment group. Both Omniscan® and Magnevist® have an effect on (99m) Tc-MDP uptake during bone scanning; the main effect is diffusely increased hepatic and splenic activity.

Hepatic metastasis arising from diverse primary pathologies diagnosed on 99mTc-Methylene diphosphonate bone scan

We are presenting two cases that illustrate nonosseous localization of 99mTc-Methylene diphosphonate (MDP) in hepatic metastases arising from varied primary pathology and review of the literature. This series emphasizes the evidence of MDP localization in hepatic metastases arising from adenocarcinoma of rectum and infiltrating duct cell carcinoma of the breast.

Diffuse Hepatic and Spleen Uptake of Tc-99m MDP on Bone Scintigraphy Resembling Liver-Spleen Scintigraphy in a Patient of Plasma Cell Tumor

The present case demonstrates a diffuse intense hepatic and, to a lesser degree, spleen, Tc-99m MDP uptake on a routine bone scintigraphy resembling liver-spleen imaging. A 49-year-old female with a history of anaplastic plasma cell tumor and suffering from bone pain was referred for bone scintigraphy to evaluate possible bone metastases. The bone scintigraphy showed diffuse hepatic and spleen uptake of Tc-99m MDP resembling liver-spleen imaging. Furthermore, bone uptake of Tc-99m MDP was significantly diminished and there were no abnormal foci throughout the skeleton. The bone scintigraphy of the present case of an anaplastic plasma cell tumor suggests the possible presence of amyloidosis.

Extraosseous accumulation of bone scan tracer (99m)Tc-methylene diphosphonate in a phlebolith

Uptake in non-osseous, non-urologic tissues is occasionally found in the performance of bone scintigraphy. These uptakes reflect an atypical interaction between the radiopharmaceutical and the patient. Knowledge of the rare extraskeletal uptakes and their clinical relevance helps in better interpretation of bone scans. We report an unusual occurrence of extraosseous accumulation of ^99mTc-methylene diphosphonate in a phlebolith in bone scan, confirmed with the aid of photon emission computed tomography and computed tomography.
