Abstract
BACKGROUND Exercise is a class 1A recommendation to improve the lives of patients with heart failure, yet less than one-third adhere to physical activity guidelines, and less than 3% attend cardiac rehabilitation. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to determine the effect of gentle nonaerobic exercise on initial and long-term adherence in patients with heart failure. METHODS We used a qualitative descriptive approach with qualitative content analysis to analyze previously recorded interview data collected as part of the 6-month GEtting iNTo Light Exercise-Heart Failure study and looked for trends in responses among our sample. Thematic statements, representing salient aspects of the participants' experiences, were created and supported by illustrative excerpts from the data. RESULTS Twenty-two interviews were analyzed. Eight participants had ≥80% adherence, and the remaining 14 participants were super-adherers (>100% adherence). Super-adherers tended to be male and 65 years or older, and have no exercise for 3 months before the study, a body mass index ≥ 30, and poor to good Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire scores. Participants initially enrolled because they saw the program as an opportunity to improve a health issue and to exercise. Long-term adherence was facilitated by convenience, individualization, experiencing psychological and physical improvements, and peer fellowship. CONCLUSIONS The GEtting iNTo Light Exercise-Heart Failure study that used home-based gentle nonaerobic exercise had 64% of participants come more than was asked. It is imperative that clinicians incorporate what participants with heart failure have directly stated is important for their initiation and long-term adherence to exercise so that we can work toward bridging sedentary patients to the full exercise guidelines to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The most common surgical method of managing coronary artery disease is coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Stress, anxiety, and pain are commonly identified postoperative symptoms and are closely correlated to patient recovery. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this review was to investigate the effects of yoga interventions on anxiety, pain, inflammatory and stress biomarkers in CABG surgery patients. METHODS and analysis: The databases PUBMED, The Cochrane CENTRAL, EMBASE, CINAHL, Scopus, and Web of Science were comprehensively searched from the inception to December 2022. The quantitative research studies that evaluated the effects of yoga on anxiety, pain, inflammatory and stress biomarkers in CABG patients were included. This systematic review and meta-analysis followed the Cochrane guidelines and is reported using the PRISMA checklist. The RevMan 5.4 software was used for the meta-analysis. RESULTS Seventeen studies met the inclusion criteria, representing 1227 patients with a mean age of 58 years. All studies have reported that yoga interventions significantly reduced anxiety, pain, inflammatory and stress biomarkers in the experimental group compared to the control group. According to the GRADE criteria, moderate quality of evidence was found on effects of yoga intervention in CABG surgery patients. CONCLUSION Yoga has been shown to benefit patients undergoing CABG surgery. It can be used as an adjunctive intervention. However, more rigorous randomized controlled trials are required to generate high-quality evidence for yoga interventions. REGISTRATION PROSPERO CRD42020175833.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Yoga is a mind-body exercise that has demonstrated its feasibility and safety even for individuals with severe long-term illness. Engaging in yoga has the potential to yield positive effects on both physical and mental well-being. Tele-yoga is a novel approach to rehabilitation in which participants practice group yoga with a live-streamed yoga instructor digitally via a tablet. This is especially beneficial for individuals who may find it difficult to leave their homes to participate in an exercise session. As part of our ongoing evaluation of the tele-yoga intervention in individuals with long-term illness, we have undertaken an exploration of participants' expectations regarding yoga in general and tele-yoga specifically. Understanding these expectations is crucial, as they can significantly impact their satisfaction with treatment and care and influence overall intervention outcomes. OBJECTIVE This study aims to explore the expectations of tele-yoga among individuals with long-term illness before starting a tele-yoga intervention. METHODS The study employed an inductive qualitative design and is part of a process evaluation within an ongoing randomized controlled trial. A total of 89 participants were interviewed before the start of the tele-yoga intervention. The interview guide encompassed questions about their general perceptions of yoga and the specific expectations they held for the upcoming tele-yoga sessions. The interviews were transcribed and analyzed using inductive qualitative content analysis. RESULTS Participants expressed their expectations for tele-yoga, focusing on the anticipated improvements in physical function and overall health. These expectations included hopes for reduced respiratory issues; relief from discomfort, aches, and pains; as well as increased physical flexibility, coordination, and overall well-being. Besides, they expected to achieve improved psychological well-being and performance; to acquire strategies to manage stress, anger, and anxiety; and to have their motivational drive strengthened and influence other activities. Participants described tele-yoga as a new and exciting technical solution that would facilitate the delivery of yoga. A few participants remained a little hesitant toward the use of technology, with some expectations based on previous experiences. When asked about expectations, some had no idea about what to expect. Participants also had varying perspectives on yoga, with some finding it mysterious and difficult to understand. Participants expressed thoughts that they found the idea of tele-yoga taking place in groups exciting and enjoyable. They also had expectations that being part of a group would provide opportunities for mutual inspiration and encouragement among the group members. CONCLUSIONS Expectations before an intervention can provide valuable insights into understanding the factors influencing adherence to tele-yoga and its outcomes. Our findings provide a wide range of expectations for tele-yoga, spanning both physical and mental aspects. Moreover, the technology's potential to facilitate yoga delivery and the supportive nature of digital group interactions were evident from the results. Effects of Hatha Yoga on Cardiac Hemodynamic Parameters and Physical Capacity in Cardiac Rehabilitation Patients. J Cardiopulm Rehabil Prev 2021; 40:263-267. Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of the present study was to assess the effect of hatha yoga training that was added to the standard cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program on the cardiac hemodynamic parameters and physical capacity of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). METHODS The study included 70 male patients aged 45-65 yr with STEMI who were treated by angioplasty. Patients were randomized to standard CR (control group) versus standard CR plus hatha yoga (experimental group). The training program lasted for a total of 24 d for each patient, with day 1 and day 24 used for medical examinations (electrocardiogram, spiroergometric submaximal treadmill test, and echocardiography). The remaining 22 d consisted of the actual training. RESULTS After the CR program the spiroergometric stress test parameters and left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) improved in both the experimental and control groups. The most notable changes in echocardiography parameters and physical capacity were in the experimental group. The results showed significant main effect over time, a time-versus-group interaction in LVEF, the duration of the test, and peak oxygen uptake, and a time-versus-group interaction in metabolic equivalents (METs). We also noted the improvement of left ventricular end-diastolic diameter, left ventricular end-systolic diameter, and heart rate over time. CONCLUSION The results revealed better effectiveness in the CR program with a modified hatha yoga training program. Hatha yoga training could be recommended as an adjunct to standard CR.

Abstract
Yoga, one of the world’s oldest health systems is receiving new attention for claims that it can contribute to healthy aging. Until recently, scientific evidence for its efficacy has relied heavily on small and poorly-designed research, but this is changing. Multiple, well-designed studies provide data showing that yoga practice has positive effects on cellular aging, mobility, balance, mental health, and prevention of cognitive decline—all areas of concern for older adults. Since the cost of implementing yoga-based community and home-based interventions is low—policymakers are also eyeing yoga practice as a cost-effective way to reduce medical costs and improve outcomes among a growing aging population. This commentary reviews the evidence for both physical and mental health benefits from yoga, as well as concerns about injuries that have been associated with certain types of yoga practice. It reveals a surprising range of yoga programs and difficulty levels that provide opportunities for almost anyone to participate and gain health benefits with practice.

Abstract
Metabolic syndrome (MS) is associated with a sedentary and stressful lifestyle and affects underactive people disproportionately. Yoga is considered to be a low-impact mind-body stress-relieving exercise, and researchers are increasing their focus on the benefits of yoga for managing metabolic disorders. It is also important for physicians and health care professionals to understand the therapeutic efficacy of yoga intervention, in terms of its type, duration and frequency on various MS risk factors. The present review summarizes the current scientific understanding of the effects of yoga on MS risk factors such as glucose homeostasis markers, lipid profile, adipocytokines and cardiovascular risk factors, and discusses the possible mechanisms of action. MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched from their inception up to December 2019, using the keywords "metabolic syndrome," "diabetes," "cardiovascular diseases," "obesity" and "yoga." The literature summarized in this review have shown mixed effects of yoga on MS risk factors and do not provide robust evidence for its efficacy. More rigorous research and well-designed trials that have a higher standard of methodology and evaluate yoga's long-term impacts on MS are needed. Understanding yoga's biochemical and molecular mechanisms of action on various metabolic pathways is also needed.

Abstract
In this era of potent medications and interventional cardiovascular (CV) procedures, the importance of beginning with and including Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) is frequently forgotten. A major goal of this review article is to show and emphasize that modification of CV risk with nonmedication approaches makes an essential contribution to CV risk reduction. Available information on TLC and modifiable CV risk factors was reviewed and assessed. Modifiable major CV risk factors include diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, tobacco abuse, obesity, stress, and a sedentary lifestyle. Age as a major CV risk factor is, of course, not susceptible to modification. A contribution to the control of CV risk factors can occur without the start of medications and there is proof of benefit for beginning with a non-pharmacological approach. TLC can benefit all of the major modifiable CV risk factors and there is good evidence for the additional benefit of supervised and group TLC. TLC includes physical activity, diet, and smoking cessation. Evidence for the benefits of TLC in reducing CV disease events is well established. However, medications must be added in those patients with higher CV risk to obtain maximum cholesterol reduction (lower is better for the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) and good blood pressure control. The benefit of TLC is frequently forgotten in this era of potent medications and invasive procedures. The benefits of diet and physical activity are emphasized with supporting data. Many motivated patients can prolong their lives significantly by dedication to TLC. Therapeutic Lifestyle Change (TLC) especially encompasses increased physical activity, a healthy diet, and smoking cessation. There is extensive proof for the benefit of TLC in contributing to cardiovascular (CV) disease prevention. CV diseases have strong metabolic and inflammatory components, both of which can be improved by TLC.

Abstract
The pandemic outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 has led to profound public health crisis. In particular, individuals with preexisting conditions of heart disease, diabetes, cerebrovascular diseases and the elderly are most vulnerable to succumb to this infection. The current COVID-19 emergency calls for rapid development of potential prevention and management strategies against this virus-mediated disease. There is a plethora of evidence that supports the add-on benefits of yoga in stress management, as well as prevention and management of chronic noncommunicable diseases. There are some studies on the effect of yoga in communicable diseases as well but very few for acute conditions and almost none for the rapidly spreading infections resulting in pandemics. Based on the available scientific evidences on yoga in improving respiratory and immune functions, we have formulated very simple doable integrated yoga modules in the form of videos to be practiced for prevention of the disease by children, adults, and the elderly.
