Abstract
Healthcare professionals (HCPs) had to perform their duties under extremely trying circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic. High expectations further increased HCP's stress, which had an adverse impact on their mental health. The present quasi-randomised clinical trial examined how a specially designed pranayama regimen practised for 4 weeks affected the mental health of frontline, exposed HCPs in terms of perceived stress, wellness and quality of life. A total of 280 frontline HCPs on COVID-19 duties in five public hospitals of Delhi, India participated in this study. The intervention (n = 123) and control (n = 127) groups were alternately allocated. Data on perceived, self-reported mental health of HCPs were collected at baseline and post-test at the end-line (after 28 days of practice). We report that the intervention group (n = 123) had a substantial lower perceived stress at post-test at the end-line in comparison to the control group (n = 127, p-value: .028). Their overall WHO Quality-of-Life score also improved, of which the score on psychological domain increased significantly (p-value: .019). Accordingly, we conclude that a 28-day practice of the pranayama by the frontline HCPs in COVID-19 hospitals significantly decreased their level of perceived stress and enhanced their psychological quality of life.

Abstract
Introduction Cervical cancer might intensify the psychological distress among patients with cervical cancer and the distress caused by the diagnosis and treatment. So, depression and anxiety are at higher levels in patients with cervical cancer. Yoga Nidra and Pranayama are thought to reduce the aftereffects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy potentially. So, in this study, we used the techniques of Yoga Nidra and Pranayama to evaluate their effect on patients with cervical cancer undergoing standard care. Methodology Seventy women with cervical cancer were randomized into experimental and control groups. The experimental group of patients with cervical cancer received 30 minutes of yoga intervention twice daily five days a week, for six weeks. The control group was given only the standard of care. The outcome measures were assessed using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) questionnaire. The assessment was done at baseline, second, fourth, and sixth weeks. Results The results of within‑group comparisons in both groups showed that there was a significant improvement in depression and anxiety scores, with P ≤ 0.05 being considered statistically significant. Between groups, analysis shows that in the preintervention, there was no difference between the yoga and control group as P > 0.05. After the yoga intervention, there was an enhancement in depression and anxiety scores. Conclusions The results of the study concluded that the Yoga Nidra and Pranayama module can be given as adjuvant therapy to the standard of care in patients with cervical cancer for treating the disease and treatment-related anxiety and depression.

Abstract
The optic nerve comprises approximately 1.2 million axons of retinal ganglion cells and is vulnerable to degeneration due to a myriad of causes. While traditional treatments have been the cornerstone of ocular care, emerging evidence highlights the benefits of integrative approaches, which can be used as an adjunct in the management of optic neuropathy. Yoga is a mind-body energy medicine encompasses physical postures, breath control, and meditation. Currently, it has gained attention for its holistic effects on well-being, by promoting health, preventing onset of diseases, adjunct in disease management, and for its rehabilitative potential. In addition, the underlying mechanisms through which yoga exerts its therapeutic influence, evaluates clinical outcomes, and explores potential synergistic effects with conventional treatments remain largely unexplored. Neuroprotective mechanisms of yoga, such as enhancing retinal ganglion cell function, reducing oxidative stress, coupled with its ability to modulate inflammatory processes and improve circulation, contribute to its potential benefits in visual health. Analysis of clinical studies reveals promising outcomes, including improvements in visual acuity, visual fields, quality of life, and functional outcomes in individuals with optic neuropathy and ocular manifestations who undergo yoga intervention (especially dhyaan) with awareness of breath. Furthermore, the integration of yoga with conventional treatments and complementary modalities unveils the possibilities of multidisciplinary approaches in ocular care that need evaluation. By unraveling the role of yoga intervention in ocular health, this review provides valuable insights for clinicians and researchers, fostering a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection and paving the way for enhanced visual health outcomes. Embracing yoga as an adjunctive therapy may has the potential to revolutionize the management of optic neuropathy and ocular manifestations, offering individuals a holistic approach to optimize visual well-being, reduce comorbid depression and caregiver burden, and improve overall quality of life.

Abstract
Controlled breathwork practices have emerged as potential tools for stress management and well-being. Here, we report a remote, randomized, controlled study (NCT05304000) of three different daily 5-min breathwork exercises compared with an equivalent period of mindfulness meditation over 1 month. The breathing conditions are (1) cyclic sighing, which emphasizes prolonged exhalations; (2) box breathing, which is equal duration of inhalations, breath retentions, and exhalations; and (3) cyclic hyperventilation with retention, with longer inhalations and shorter exhalations. The primary endpoints are improvement in mood and anxiety as well as reduced physiological arousal (respiratory rate, heart rate, and heart rate variability). Using a mixed-effects model, we show that breathwork, especially the exhale-focused cyclic sighing, produces greater improvement in mood (p < 0.05) and reduction in respiratory rate (p < 0.05) compared with mindfulness meditation. Daily 5-min cyclic sighing has promise as an effective stress management exercise.

Abstract
Introduction In trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), stabilization techniques are used before confrontation ones to increase stress/affect tolerance and thus effectiveness of CBT. This study investigated the effects of pranayama, meditative yoga breathing and breath holding techniques, as a complimentary stabilization technique in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Methods Seventy-four PTSD-patients (84% female, 44.2 ± 13 years) were randomized to receive either pranayama at the beginning of each TF-CBT session or TF-CBT alone. The primary outcome was self-reported PTSD severity after 10 sessions of TF-CBT. Secondary outcomes included quality of life, social participation, anxiety, depression, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, body awareness, breath-holding duration, acute emotional reaction to stress, and adverse events (AEs). Intention-to-treat (ITT) and exploratory per-protocol (PP) analyses of covariance with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were performed. Results ITT analyses revealed no significant differences on primary or secondary outcomes, except for breath-holding duration in favor of pranayama-assisted TF-CBT (20.81 s, 95%CI = 13.05|28.60). PP analyses of 31 patients without AEs during pranayama revealed significantly lower PTSD severity (-5.41, 95%CI = -10.17|-0.64) and higher mental quality of life (4.89, 95%CI = 1.38|8.41) than controls. In contrast, patients with AEs during pranayama breath holding reported significantly higher PTSD severity (12.39, 95%CI = 5.08|19.71) than controls. Concurrent somatoform disorders were found to be a significant moderator of change in PTSD severity (p = 0.029). Conclusion In PTSD patients without concurrent somatoform disorders, the integration of pranayama into TF-CBT might reduce post-traumatic symptoms and increase mental quality of life more efficiently than TF-CBT alone. The results remain preliminary until they can be replicated by ITT analyses. Clinical trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT03748121.

Abstract
Introduction and Aim: Bhramari pranayama (Humming bee breath) is the most common slow pranayama practice involving inhalation through both nostrils followed by exhalation which produces sound of humming bee. Practicing pranayama reduces the effects of stress on different systems by increasing the vagal tone. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there are heightened feelings of stress, anxiety and depression and pranayama can be an effective way to improve our mental and emotional well-being. This study has been chosen to assess the effect of Bhramari pranayama on autonomic functions and to compare the immediate and training effects of Bhramari pranayama in the study group.
Materials and Methods: An observational study was conducted in a medical college among 110 students aged between 18-22 years for a period of 2 months. The participants were instructed to do 9 rounds of Bhramari pranayama every day for 3 weeks. The immediate and training effect of pranayama practice on HRV (Heart Rate Variability) was assessed. The parameters of HRV (time and frequency domains) were assessed by PHYSIOPAC- PP4 (MEDICAID SYSTEMS, Chandigarh).
Results: After training of Bhramari pranayama for 3 weeks, there was a decrease in Systolic Blood Pressure (SBP), Diastolic Blood Pressure (DBP) and PNN50 and a decrease in frequency domain parameters, LFnu and LF/HF ratio were observed significantly.
Conclusion: The study shows the possibility that Bhramari pranayama has a beneficial effect on HRV in medical students, as the autonomic balance produces the improvement of parasympathetic tone.
