Experience of 500 cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and systematic analysis of cases. North Clin Istanb 2023; 10:108-121. Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a widely accepted reference imaging technique in routine cardiology clinics in many centers due to its advantages in providing preferable functional, morphologic information. However, there is little information about national experience in clinical application and findings of cardiovascular MRI. The objective of this study was to demonstrate the clinical and demographic characteristics of patients admitted to our cardiac imaging department. METHODS A total of 500 cardiovascular MRI examinations performed between 2016 and 2019 were enrolled in this retrospective study. Clinical indications, demographic, and cardiovascular MRI findings of the patients were retrospectively evaluated. RESULTS Five hundred patients (M/F=301/199) were included in this retrospective, single center study. The majority of the examinations were performed for the assessment of congenital heart disease (n=254, 50.8%). The other indications were for myocardial disease (n=160, 32%), cardiac mass (n=44, 8.8%), valvular heart disease (n=20, 4%), magnetic resonance angiography (n=12, 2.4% for aorta and pulmonary artery [n=9, 1.8%] and for coronary arteries [n=3, 0.6%]), and vasculitis (n=7, 1.7%), pericardial disease (n=3, 0.6%). Minor complication was seen during the contrast agent injection in three patients (0.06%). CONCLUSION Cardiovascular MRI is a reliable and accurate imaging tool in identifying the various cardiac pathology with widely accepted use in the clinical area. Our single-center experience of 500 cases demonstrates the varieties of clinical indications in daily practice that may contribute to the national data pool.

Abstract
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guided cardiac radioablation (CR) for atrial fibrillation (AF) is a promising treatment concept. However, the visibility of AF CR targets on MRI acquisitions requires further exploration and MRI sequence and parameter optimization has not yet been performed for this application. This pilot study explores the feasibility of MRI-guided tracking of AF CR targets by evaluating AF CR target visualization on human participants using a selection of 3D and 2D MRI sequences.MRI datasets were acquired in healthy and AF participants using a range of MRI sequences and parameters. MRI acquisition categories included 3D free-breathing acquisitions (3Dacq), 2D breath-hold ECG-gated acquisitions (2DECG-gated), stacks of 2D breath-hold ECG-gated acquisitions which were retrospectively interpolated to 3D datasets (3Dinterp), and 2D breath-hold ungated acquisitions (2Dreal-time). The ease of target delineation and the presence of artifacts were qualitatively analyzed. Image quality was quantitatively analyzed using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) and non-uniformity. Confident 3D target delineation was achievable on all 3Dinterp datasets but was not possible on any of the 3Dacq datasets. Fewer artifacts and significantly better SNR, CNR and non-uniformity metrics were observed with 3Dinterp compared to 3Dacq. 2Dreal-time datasets had slightly lower SNR and CNR than 2DECG-gated and 3Dinterp n datasets. AF CR target visualization on MRI was qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated. The study findings indicate that AF CR target visualization is achievable despite the imaging challenges associated with these targets, warranting further investigation into MRI-guided AF CR treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sarcoidosis is a systemic granulomatous disease affecting different organs including the heart. Myocardial strain analysis could potentially detect the early stages of cardiac dysfunction in sarcoidosis patients. The present study aims to assess the use of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) strain analysis using feature tracking (FT) in the detection of early cardiac involvement in asymptomatic patients with sarcoidosis. METHODS One hundred and thirteen CMR studies of patients with sarcoidosis of the respiratory tract and/or extrapulmonary sarcoidosis without pre-existing known cardiovascular disease were included in the study and analysed using FT and compared to 22 age and gender-matched controls. Global longitudinal strain (GLS), global circumferential strain (GCS) and global radial strain (GRS) of the left ventricle (LV) were measured. RESULTS The sarcoidosis patients did not significantly differ from the controls in basic demographic data and had normal global and regional systolic LV function-LV ejection fraction (EF) 66 ± 7% vs 65 ± 5% in the controls (p = NS). No statistically significant differences were found in all strain parameters between patients and controls: GLS (- 13.9 ± 3.1 vs. - 14.2 ± 2.5), GCS (- 23.4 ± 4.0 vs. - 22.2 ± 2.9) and GRS (53.4 ± 13.5 vs. 51.2 ± 13.6%) (p = NS). CONCLUSION Patients with sarcoidosis of the respiratory tract and/or extrapulmonary sarcoidosis had normal myocardial deformation measured by CMR-FT derived global strain.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Early life is critical for cardiac development. We examined the associations of longitudinal fetal and childhood growth patterns with childhood right and left ventricular structures measured by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. METHODS In a population-based prospective cohort study among 2827 children, we measured growth at 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, at birth, 0.5, 1, 2, 6 and 10 years. At 10 years, we measured right ventricular end-diastolic volume, left ventricular end-diastolic volume, left ventricular mass and left ventricular mass-to-volume ratio by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging. RESULTS Small size for gestational age at birth was associated with smaller right and left ventricular end-diastolic volume relative to current body surface area, but with larger left ventricular mass-to-volume ratio (P < 0.05). Children in the upper 25% of right and left ventricular end-diastolic volume and left ventricular mass at age 10 years were larger at birth and became taller and leaner in childhood (P < 0.05). In contrast, children in the lower 25% of right and left ventricular end-diastolic volume and left ventricular mass were smaller at birth and became shorter and heavier in childhood (P < 0.05). Both fetal and childhood growth were independently of each other associated with childhood right and left ventricular end-diastolic volume and left ventricular mass. CONCLUSION Children who are larger at birth and grow taller and leaner in childhood have larger hearts relative to body surface area. Small size at birth children, who grow shorter and heavier in childhood, have relatively smaller hearts with larger left ventricular mass-to-volume ratio. Both fetal and childhood growth are important for the development of cardiac dimensions.
