Digital Transformation in Healthcare: Technology Acceptance and Its Applications

Technological innovation has become an integral aspect of our daily life, such as wearable and information technology, virtual reality and the Internet of Things which have contributed to transforming healthcare business and operations. Patients will now have a broader range and more mindful healthcare choices and experience a new era of healthcare with a patient-centric culture. Digital transformation determines personal and institutional health care. This paper aims to analyse the changes taking place in the field of healthcare due to digital transformation. For this purpose, a systematic bibliographic review is performed, utilising Scopus, Science Direct and PubMed databases from 2008 to 2021. Our methodology is based on the approach by Wester and Watson, which classify the related articles based on a concept-centric method and an ad hoc classification system which identify the categories used to describe areas of literature. The search was made during August 2022 and identified 5847 papers, of which 321 fulfilled the inclusion criteria for further process. Finally, by removing and adding additional studies, we ended with 287 articles grouped into five themes: information technology in health, the educational impact of e-health, the acceptance of e-health, telemedicine and security issues.

Qualitative Research on the Training Experiences and Needs of Intensive Care Unit General Nurses Against the Background of Regular Coronavirus Disease 2019 Prevention and Control

Objective

This study aimed to investigate the training experiences and needs of intensive care unit (ICU) general nurses against a background of regular Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) prevention and control.

Methods

Using the phenomenological method of qualitative research, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 ICU nurses. The interview data were analyzed, sorted, summarized, and refined using the content analysis method.

Results

The following five themes were extracted from the interviews, based on the training experiences of the nurses: 1) broadening their thinking; 2) discovering their personal shortcomings; 3) gaining self-confidence; 4) calmly facing frontline work; 5) experiencing high assessment pressure. The training needs of the nurses could be summarized into the following four themes: 1) increased training time; 2) improving the assessment mechanism; 3) establishing a normal rotating-shift training system; 4) balancing the teaching levels.

Conclusion

Against a background of regular epidemic prevention and control, ICU training for general nurses is of high practical significance and value. Thus, active exploration and research should be conducted to establish perfect training and assessment mechanisms for these nurses. Additionally, training methods that are suitable for clinical needs should be formulated and training systematization and standardization must be promoted.

Brief Digital Solutions in Behavior Change Interventions for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: A Literature Review

INTRODUCTION

With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, health systems increasingly look to digital health solutions to provide support for self-management to people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). This review aimed to assess brief digital behavior change solutions (i.e., solutions that require limited engagement or contact) for T2D, including use of behavior change techniques (BCTs) and their impact on self-care and glycemic control.

METHODS

A review was conducted by searching Embase and gray literature using a predefined search strategy to identify randomized controlled trials (RCT) published between January 1, 2015, and March 21, 2021. BCTs were coded using an internationally established BCT taxonomy v1 (BCTTv1).

RESULTS

Out of 1426 articles identified, 10 RCTs were included in qualitative synthesis. Of these, six reported significant improvements in primary outcome(s), including improved patient engagement, glycemic control, self-efficacy, and physical activity. Interventions as short as 12 min were found to be effective, and users' ability to control their preferences was noted as conducive to engagement. Almost three quarters of BCTs targeted by interventions were under the hierarchical clusters of "Feedback and monitoring," "Goals and planning," and "Shaping knowledge." Interventions that targeted fewer BCTs were at least as effective as interventions that were more comprehensive in their goals.

DISCUSSION

Digital behavior change solutions can successfully improve T2D self-care support and outcomes in a variety of populations including patients with low incomes, limited educational attainment, or living in rural areas. Easy-to-use interventions tailored to patient needs may be as effective as lengthy, complex, and more generalized interventions.

CONCLUSIONS

Brief digital solutions can improve clinical and behavioral outcomes while reducing patient burden, fitting more easily in patients' lives and potentially improving usability. As T2D patients increasingly expect access to self-care assistance between face-to-face encounters, digital support tools will play a greater role in effective diabetes management programs.

Education Technology in Orthodontics and Paediatric Dentistry during the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Systematic Review

Over the last decade, medical education changed from traditional teaching methods to telematic and networking scholar and e-learning approach. The objective of the present systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness and teachers/student's acceptability of e-learning applied to the field of orthodontics and paediatric dentistry. A database search of the literature was conducted on PubMed and Embase databases from January 2005 to May 2021. A total of 172 articles were identified by the electronic search, while a total of 32 papers were selected for qualitative analysis. Overall, 19 articles investigated the effectiveness of e-learning, and no difference of acceptability was reported between e-learning and traditional methods for a wide part of the articles selected. A total of 25 papers provided a satisfaction questionnaire for learners and all were positive in their attitude towards e-learning. The results showed that e-learning is an effective method of instruction, complementing the traditional teaching methods, and learners had a positive attitude and perception. The evidence of the present study reported a high level of acceptability and knowledge level of e-learning techniques, compared to frontal lecture methods, in the fields of orthodontics and paediatric dentistry.
