Silica-Based Supported Ionic Liquid-like Phases as Heterogeneous Catalysts. MOLECULES (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2022; 27:molecules27185900. Abstract
Supported ionic liquid phases offer several advantages related with catalysis. Immobilization of ionic liquid on the solid support provides catalytic activity or efficient matrix for active phases, as enzymes or metal compounds. Ionic liquid can be physically adsorbed on the carrier (supported ionic liquid phase) or chemically grafted to the material surface (supported ionic liquid-like phase). The use of supported ionic liquid phases improves mass transport, reduces ionic amount in the process and, most importantly, enables effortless catalyst separation and recycling. Moreover, chemical modification of the surface material with ionic liquid prevents its leaching, enhancing length of catalyst life. Silica-based materials have become an effective and powerful matrix for supported ionic liquid-like phase due to its cost-efficiency, presence of hydroxyl groups on the surface enabling its functionalization, and specific material properties, such as the size and shapes of the pores. For these reasons, supported ionic liquid-like phase silica-based materials are successfully used in the organic catalysis.

Abstract
In the present study, a green and ecofriendly nanocatalyst was synthesized through functionalization of 2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5-triazine (TCT) and mesalamine on silica-coated magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), then coordination with Cu2+ without agglomeration, consecutively. The silica-coated MNPs functionalized with the Cu(*II)-mesalamine complex was (Fe3O4@SiO2@NH2-TCT-mesalamine-Cu(II) MNPs) completely characterized by FT-IR, XRD, EDX, FESEM, TEM, VSM, TGA, and BET analyses. Afterward, the activity of the novel catalyst was investigated in the synthesis of chromene heterocycles, which were an important group of organic compounds. The activity of Fe3O4@SiO2@NH2-TCT-mesalamine-Cu(II) MNPs as a high-performance heterogeneous nanocatalyst was evaluated for the synthesis of 2-amino-4-aryl-6-(phenylthio)pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitriles and 2-amino-4H-chromenes via aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, and enolizable C-H acids (resorcinol, 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione, and benzenethiol) in ethanol under reflux conditions. Fe3O4@SiO2-TCT-mesalamine-Cu(II) could be quickly separated using an external magnet and reused nine times without a remarkable reduction of its catalytic activity.

Abstract
An ecofriendly inorganic-organic hybrid and novel Schiff base complex of copper coated on epoxy-modified Fe3O4@SiO2 MNPs was successfully designed and prepared from readily available chemicals. In this method, a Schiff base complex as a linker is utilized to protect copper nanoparticles to the core-shell Fe3O4 exterior without agglomeration. The resulted Schiff base complex of copper coated on epoxy-modified Fe3O4@SiO2 MNPs was characterized and confirmed via different analyses such as FT-IR, TGA, XRD, VSM, FE-SEM, TEM, ICP, EDX, and BET. The novel catalyst was examined for the synthesis of various chromene-annulated heterocycles through the one-pot three component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, various phenols (2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione/resorcinol/β-naphthol), and malononitrile in ethanol at reflux conditions. This method includes important aspects like no usage of column chromatography, very short reaction times, simplicity of product isolation using ethanol, excellent yields, simple procedures, and magnetic recoverability of the catalyst. All in all, our method makes a novel and significant advancement in the synthesis of various chromene-annulated heterocycles.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to synthesize Zr@IL-Fe3O4 MNPs as a new magnetically recoverable heterogeneous catalyst, which was then characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques. The catalytic behavior of the Zr@IL-Fe3O4 MNPs was efficiently used for the synthesis of highly substituted pyran derivatives via a one-pot three-component condensation of 4-hydroxycoumarin/dimedone, malononitrile, and arylaldehydes under solvent-free conditions. This new methodology demonstrated some important features, including short reaction times, excellent yields, lower loading of the catalyst, easy work-up, and recyclability of the catalyst for a minimum of six times without any noticeable decrease in catalytic activity.

Adsorption and Purification of Baicalin from Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi Extract by Ionic Liquids (ILs) Grafted Silica. Molecules 2021; 26:molecules26082322. Abstract
Baicalin which has multiple biological activities is the main active component of the root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (SBG). Although its isolation and purification by adsorption methods have aroused much interest of the scientific community, it suffered from the poor selectivity of the adsorbents. In this work, an environmentally benign method was developed to prepare ionic liquids (ILs) grafted silica by using IL 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)imide ([C4mim]NTf2) and ethanol as reaction media. The IL 1-propyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C3mim]Cl) grafted silica ([C3mim]+Cl−@SiO2) was used to adsorb and purify baicalin from the root extract of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (SBG). Experimental results indicated that the adsorption equilibrium can be quickly achieved (within 10 min). The adsorption behavior of [C3mim]+Cl−@SiO2 for baicalin was in good agreement with Langmuir and Freundlich models and the adsorption was a physisorption process as suggested by Dubinin–Radushkevich model. Compared with commercial resins, [C3mim]+Cl−@SiO2 showed the strongest adsorption ability and highest selectivity. After desorption and crystallization, a purity of baicalin as high as 96.5% could be obtained. These results indicated that the ILs grafted silica materials were promising adsorbents for the adsorption and purification of baicalin and showed huge potential in the purification of other bioactive compounds from natural sources.

Abstract
Today, due to the developing need for inexpensive catalysts, recyclable magnetic nanocatalysts immobilized on polysaccharides possess many advantages over classical heterogeneous catalysts. However, cellulose has been an appealing material in catalysis science and technology. In this work, by controlling the interaction between the inorganic complexes and the support material, we designed a high activity nanostructured combination of a magnetic nanoparticle Fe3O4@NFC@Co(ii) terminated complex as a multi-nuclear catalyst. This protocol involves an environment friendly approach using cobalt acetate. The magnetic nanostructure Fe3O4@NFC@Co(ii) can be used as a novel, green, and a powerful catalyst that demonstrates a short reaction time, high yield and easy procedure for the cascade Knoevenagel-Michael-cyclocondensation reaction for the one-pot synthesis of 4H-pyrans and pyranopyrazoles. The superparamagnetic nanocomposite could be conveniently separated by using an external magnet. Moreover, the catalyst could be reused at least five times in new reaction runs without a noticeable loss of activity. The prepared catalyst was characterized by FT-IR, XRD, VSM, FESEM, EDAX, TEM, ICP, and TGA techniques. The experiments were achieved with good yields and implied that the catalytic method was effective and convenient for heterocyclic synthesis.

Abstract
The SCMNPs@BPy-SO3H catalyst was prepared and characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Afterwards, its capability was efficiently used to promote the one-pot, three-component synthesis of pyrano[2,3-c]pyrazole and 2-amino-3-cyano-pyrano[3,2-c]chromen-5(4H)-one derivatives. The strategy resulted in the desired products with excellent yields and short reaction times. The SCMNPs@BPy-SO3H catalyst was readily recovered using a permanent magnetic field and it was reused in six runs with a slight decrease in catalytic activity. Abstract
In this study, a saccharine-based ionic liquid [Bmim]Sac has been found to be a sustainable catalyst for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrano[c]chromenes, 4,5-dihydropyrano[4,3-b]pyran and tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans scaffolds through Domino Knoevenagel–Michael reaction. The easy recovery of the catalyst and high yield of the products make the protocol attractive, sustainable and economical. A mechanistic hypothesis is discussed using the concept of cooperative catalysis based on the dual (electrophilic/nucleophilic) activation of reactants by [Bmim]Sac. Furthermore, dual hydrogen bonding of saccharinate anions plays an important role in the activation of nucleophiles. Artificial sweetener saccharine based ionic for sustainable synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrano[c]chromenes, 4,5-dihydropyrano[4,3-b]pyran and tetrahydrobenzo[b]pyrans in aqueous medium scaffolds through Domino Knoevenagel–Michael reaction.![]()
