Abstract
Background The aging process and a chronic sedentary lifestyle in the elderly as a result of physical restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, induces oxidative stress through oxygen supply and antioxidant activity imbalance which in turn induce degenerative diseases. Salat dhuha as a prayer and mind-body medicine which is practiced by the Muslim community can hopefully be a solution to decrease oxidative stress in the elderly. Objective To evaluate the acute physiological effects of salat dhuha on Glutathione Peroxidase activity (GPx) as an antioxidant and Malondialdehyde (MDA) as an oxidant in healthy elderly Muslim women population who have done salat dhuha regularly. Method A randomized controlled study was done on elderly women (aged 60-74 years old) who are treated in the North Sumatra Government's Nursing Home in Binjai and who routinely do 2 rakaat of salat dhuha every day. Several physical, clinical, and blood examinations were done pre and post-intervention. 101 elderly Muslim women in the nursing home were selected, 26 met the study criteria and were included in the study. The volunteers were randomized into 2 groups using lottery papers, the "2-rakaat salat dhuha group" (n = 13) and the "8-rakaat salat dhuha group" (n = 13). All volunteers did salat dhuha for at least 5 days per week for 6 weeks. Result 24 elderly women completed the study, and one volunteer from each group dropped out. The characteristics of participants from both groups were homogenous. Results of the t-independent analysis showed that MDA concentrations in both groups in the pre and post-test were not significantly different (p > 0,05). Mann Whitney analysis showed that GPx on both groups in the pre and post-test were not significantly different (p > 0,05). Paired sample t-test analysis on the MDA concentrations pre and post-test in the 8-rakaat group showed a significant difference in MDA levels (p < 0,05). The 8-rakaat salat dhuha group showed that GPx activity increases as much as 8,9% and MDA levels decrease as much as 48,35 % after 6 weeks. Conclusion Salat dhuha promotes redox homeostasis and has the potential to prevent oxidative stress in elderly women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The identification of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) risk factors is requested to implement prevention strategies. AIM To explore the associations between the COVID-19 incidence and malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty, identified as potential risk factors in previous cross-sectional studies. METHODS Malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty were assessed at the last available follow-up from the Sarcopenia and Physical Impairments with Advancing Age (SarcoPhAge) cohort (i.e., the fifth year that ended in 2019) according to the Mini-Nutritional Assessment short-form, the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2), and the Fried criteria, respectively. Information regarding the COVID-19 was gathered by phone calls interviews in April 2021 to measure its self-declared incidence. Adjusted Cox regressions and Kaplan-Meier curves were performed. RESULTS The present study included 241 participants [median age 75.6 (73.0-80.6) years, 63.1% women]. Among them, 27 participants (11.2%) developed the non-fatal Covid-19. No significant increased risks of COVID-19 were observed in patients with malnutrition [adjusted HR 1.14 (0.26-5.07)] and sarcopenia [adjusted HR 1.25 (0.35-4.42)]. Nevertheless, the incidence of COVID-19 was significantly higher in frail (44.4%) than in robust participants (8.5%) [Adjusted HR 7.01 (2.69-18.25)], which was confirmed by the Kaplan-Meier curves (p < 0.001). Among the frailty syndrome components, a low physical activity level was the only one significantly associated with an increased risk of COVID-19 [adjusted HR 5.18 (1.37-19.54)]. CONCLUSION Despite some limitations in the methodology of this study (i.e., limited sample size, COVID-19 incidence self-reported and not assessed systematically using objective measurements) requiring careful consideration, an increased risk to develop COVID-19 was observed in the presence of the frailty syndrome. Further investigations are needed to elaborate on our findings.

Abstract
Adipose, skeletal, and hepatic muscle tissues are the main endocrine organs that produce adipokines, myokines, and hepatokines. These biomarkers can be harmful or beneficial to an organism and still perform crosstalk, acting through the endocrine, paracrine, and autocrine pathways. This study aims to review the crosstalk between adipokines, myokines, and hepatokines. Far beyond understanding the actions of each biomarker alone, it is important to underline that these cytokines act together in the body, resulting in a complex network of actions in different tissues, which may have beneficial or non-beneficial effects on the genesis of various physiological disorders and their respective outcomes, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2), obesity, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Overweight individuals secrete more pro-inflammatory adipokines than those of a healthy weight, leading to an impaired immune response and greater susceptibility to inflammatory and infectious diseases. Myostatin is elevated in pro-inflammatory environments, sharing space with pro-inflammatory organokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 (IL-1), resistin, and chemerin. Fibroblast growth factor FGF21 acts as a beta-oxidation regulator and decreases lipogenesis in the liver. The crosstalk mentioned above can interfere with homeostatic disorders and can play a role as a potential therapeutic target that can assist in the methods of diagnosing metabolic syndrome and CVD.
