Abstract
The risk of cardiac involvement with electrophysiological abnormalities during COVID-19 infection has been reported in adults but remains poorly studied in children. Our aim was to determine the frequency of cardiac involvement and the necessity of routine cardiac evaluation in children hospitalized for COVID-19. This observational study included 127 children, with a median (IQR) age of 2 (0.83-6.0) years, who were hospitalized for COVID-19 between 1 January 2021 and 31 August 2022, 62 (48.8%) of whom were males. Each patient underwent an ECG on admission and discharge as well as a laboratory assessment. A comparison between patients with COVID-19 and healthy controls showed significantly higher HR (p < 0.0001) and lower PR values (p = 0.02) in the first group. No arrhythmias or other electrocardiographic abnormalities were detected during hospitalization. The median levels of troponin, NT-proBNP, ferritin, and D-dimer were significantly higher in children aged <2 years, but they fell within the normal range for their age. Our results indicate that a detectable cardiac involvement is very rare in children hospitalized for COVID-19 and not suffering from Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) and suggest that routine electrocardiographic assessment is not mandatory in these patients in the absence of cardiac symptoms/signs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiac injury in COVID-19 patients confers a worse prognosis. The interpretation of electrocardiography can be beneficial in the early diagnosis of probable cardiac involvement. After adjusting for other variables, we sought to determine if the initial ECG on admission could add additional prognostic value. METHODS In this single-center cross-sectional study, 1165 patients with a positive COVID-19 PCR between Feb 2020 and Nov 2021 were enrolled in our study. Patients were grouped according to their admitted units, and survivors to hospital discharge or non-survivors. Predictors of ICU admission and in-hospital mortality were determined using univariate analysis and a logistic regression model. RESULTS The mean age was 55.6 ± 16.2 years and 52% were male. Out of 1165 patients, 149 deaths (12.8%) were recorded during hospitalization. Sinus tachycardia was the most common dysrhythmia, followed by premature atrial and ventricular beats, sinus bradycardia, and atrial fibrillation (28.6%, 5.6%, 3.9%, and 2.1%, respectively). Age (p<0.001), sex (p=0.006), history of diabetes mellitus (p=0.002), hypertension (p=0.018), ischemic heart disease (p=0.004), and cancer (p<0.001) were more frequent among non-survivors. Among ECG findings, tachycardia, low voltage QRS, ST-T changes, and dysrhythmia were related to an increased mortality risk. However, in regression analysis, only sex (OR 1.89, 95% CI 1.2 to 2.9, p=0.004), age (OR 1.03, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.05, p<0.001), and initial tachycardia (OR 1.02, 95% CI 1.01 to 1.03, p<0.001) were independent predictors of in-hospital mortality. CONCLUSION Our data suggest that initial electrocardiographic findings could be helpful in distinguishing patients with an increased risk for ICU admission or in-hospital death.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Acute COVID-19 infection may be associated with electrocardiogram (EKG) abnormalities in pediatric patients. We have anecdotally observed EKG abnormalities in patients without MIS-C or significant cardiac disease requiring intervention or further follow-up. Our aim was to determine the incidence of abnormal EKG findings and correlate with evidence of significant cardiac pathology in pediatric patients who present to the emergency department during an acute COVID-19 infection. METHODS We conducted a retrospective chart review of 209 pediatric patients diagnosed in the emergency department with acute COVID-19 infection and had an EKG during the same encounter; patients with MIS-C were excluded. Primary objectives included determination of the incidence of EKG abnormalities in patients presenting to the emergency department (ED) with acute COVID-19 infection who did not require hospitalization. Secondary objectives included correlation of these findings with other concomitant testing of possible cardiac pathology (echocardiograms, biomarkers), and clinical outcomes. RESULTS EKG abnormalities were identified in 84 (40%) patients. Echo was performed in 28 (13.4%) patients; only 1 was abnormal, and considered an incidental finding. The most common EKG abnormality involved nonspecific ST-T wave patterns, suggestive of but not diagnostic for underlying pericardial or myocardial disease. Serum troponin and BNP values were normal in all patients tested, either with a normal or abnormal EKG. A normal EKG had a 100% sensitivity and negative predictive value in predicting a normal echocardiogram. No patients were hospitalized and there was normalization of EKG abnormalities during short-term follow up. CONCLUSIONS Despite a high incidence of abnormal EKG repolarization patterns in pediatric patients presenting with acute (non-MIS-C) COVID-19 infections, these patients generally do not have abnormal cardiac biomarkers or echocardiograms, and the risk for adverse cardiac events is low.

Abstract
Since the beginning of 2020, Coronavirus Disease 19 (COVID-19) has attracted the attention of the World Health Organization (WHO). This paper looks into the infection mechanism, patient symptoms, and laboratory diagnosis, followed by an extensive assessment of different technologies and computerized models (based on Electrocardiographic signals (ECG), Voice, and X-ray techniques) proposed as a diagnostic tool for the accurate detection of COVID-19. The found papers showed high accuracy rate results, ranging between 85.70% and 100%, and F1-Scores from 89.52% to 100%. With this state-of-the-art, we concluded that the models proposed for the detection of COVID-19 already have significant results, but the area still has room for improvement, given the vast symptomatology and the better comprehension of individuals' evolution of the disease.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The use of hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) in the first COVID-19 epidemic wave raised safety concerns. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Adverse reactions (ADR) suspected to be induced by HCQ and submitted to the Spanish Pharmacovigilance Database were studied. A disproportionality analysis was performed to determine adverse effects reported in non-Covid and Covid patients. To explore potential drug-drug interactions, Omega (Ω) statistics was calculated. RESULTS More severe cases were reported when used in COVID-19. Main differences in frequency were observed in hepatobiliary, skin, gastrointestinal, eye, nervous system and heart ADRs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, high disproportionality in reports was found for Torsade de Pointes/QT prolongation with a ROR (-ROR) of 132.8 (76.7); severe hepatotoxicity, 18.7 (14.7); dyslipidaemias, 12.1 (6.1); shock, 9.5 (6.9) and ischemic colitis, 8.9 (2.6). Myopathies, hemolytic disorders and suicidal behavior increased their disproportionality during the pandemic. Disproportionality was observed for neoplasms, hematopoietic cytopaenias and interstitial lung disease in the pre-COVID-19 period. Potential interactions were showed between HCQ and azithromycin, ceftriaxone, lopinavir and tocilizumab. CONCLUSIONS The use of HCQ during the Covid-19 pandemic changed its ADRs reporting profile. Of particular concern during the pandemic were arrhythmias, hepatotoxicity, severe skin reactions and suicide, but not ocular disorders. Some signals identified would require more detailed analyses.

Abstract
A growing population suffering from or at high risk of developing cardiovascular diseases can benefit from rapid, precise, and readily available diagnostics. Textronics is an interdisciplinary approach for designing and manufacturing high-performance flexible electronics integrated with textiles for various applications, with electrocardiography (ECG) being the most convenient and most frequently used diagnostic technique for textronic solutions. The key challenges that still exist for textronics include expedient manufacturing, adaptation to human subjects, sustained operational stability for Holter-type data acquisition, reproducibility, and compatibility with existing solutions. The present study demonstrates conveniently paintable ECG electroconductive coatings on T-shirts woven from polyester or 70% polyamide and 30% polyester. The up to 600-μm-thick coatings encompass working electrodes of low resistivity 60 Ω sq-1 sheathed in the insulated pathways-conjugable with a wireless, multichannel ECG recorder. Long (800 μm) multiwalled carbon nanotubes, with scalable reproducibility and purity (18 g per round of synthesis), constituted the electroactive components and were embedded into a commercially available screen-printing acrylic base. The resulting paint had a viscosity of 0.75 Pa·s at 56 s-1 and 25 °C and was conveniently applied using a paintbrush, making this technique accessible to manufacturers. The amplified and nondigitally processed ECG signals were recorded under dry-skin conditions using a certified ECG recorder. The system enabled the collection of ECG signals from two channels, allowing the acquisition of cardiac electrical activity on six ECG leads with quality at par with medical diagnostics. Importantly, the Holter-type ECG allowed ambulatory recording for >24 h under various activities (sitting, sleeping, walking, and running) in three male participants. The ECG signal was stable for >5 cycles of washing, a level of stability not reported yet previously. The developed ECG-textronic application possesses acceptable and reproducible characteristics, making this technology a suitable candidate for further testing in clinical trials.
