Abstract
The Trail Making Test (TMT) is one of the most commonly administered tests in clinical and research neuropsychological settings. The two parts of the test (part A (TMT-A) and part B (TMT-B)) enable the evaluation of visuoperceptual tracking and processing speed (TMT-A), as well as divided attention, set-shifting and cognitive flexibility (TMT-B). The main cognitive processes that are assessed using TMT, i.e., processing speed, divided attention, and cognitive flexibility, are often affected in patients with stroke. Considering the wide use of TMT in research and clinical settings since its introduction in neuropsychological practice, the purpose of our review was to provide a comprehensive overview of the use of TMT in stroke patients. We present the most representative studies assessing processing speed and attentional shift/mental flexibility in stroke settings using TMT and applying scoring methods relying on conventional TMT scores (e.g., time-to-complete part A and part B), as well as derived measures (e.g., TMT-(B-A) difference score, TMT-(B/A) ratio score, errors in part A and part B). We summarize the cognitive processes commonly associated with TMT performance in stroke patients (e.g., executive functions), lesion characteristics and neuroanatomical underpinning of TMT performance post-stroke, the association between TMT performance and patients' instrumental activities of daily living, motor difficulties, speech difficulties, and mood statue, as well as their driving ability. We also highlight how TMT can serve as an objective marker of post-stroke cognitive recovery following the implementation of interventions. Our comprehensive review underscores that the TMT stands as an invaluable asset in the stroke assessment toolkit, contributing nuanced insights into diverse cognitive, functional, and emotional dimensions. As research progresses, continued exploration of the TMT potential across these domains is encouraged, fostering a deeper comprehension of post-stroke dynamics and enhancing patient-centered care across hospitals, rehabilitation centers, research institutions, and community health settings. Its integration into both research and clinical practice reaffirms TMT status as an indispensable instrument in stroke-related evaluations, enabling holistic insights that extend beyond traditional neurological assessments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Frequent neurological examinations in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) disrupt sleep-wake cycles and potentially contribute to the development of delirium. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the risk of delirium among patients with TBI with respect to their neuro-check frequencies. METHODS A retrospective study of patients presenting with TBI at a single level I trauma center between January 2018 and December 2019. The primary exposure was the frequency of neurological examinations (neuro-checks) assigned at the time of admission. Patients admitted with hourly (Q1) neuro-check frequencies were compared with those who received examinations every 2 (Q2) or 4 (Q4) hours. The primary outcomes were delirium and time-to-delirium. The onset of delirium was defined as the first documented positive Confusion Assessment Method for the Intensive Care Unit score. RESULTS Of 1552 patients with TBI, 458 (29.5%) patients experienced delirium during their hospital stay. The median time-to-delirium was 1.8 days (IQR: 1.1, 2.9). Kaplan-Meier analysis demonstrated that patients assigned Q1 neuro-checks had the greatest rate of delirium compared with the patients with Q2 and Q4 neuro-checks ( P < .001). Multivariable Cox regression modeling demonstrated that Q2 neuro-checks (hazard ratio: 0.439, 95% CI: 0.33-0.58) and Q4 neuro-checks (hazard ratio: 0.48, 95% CI: 0.34-0.68) were protective against the development of delirium compared with Q1. Other risk factors for developing delirium included pre-existing dementia, tobacco use, lower Glasgow Coma Scale score, higher injury severity score, and certain hemorrhage patterns. CONCLUSION Patients with more frequent neuro-checks had a higher risk of developing delirium compared with those with less frequent neuro-checks.

Abstract
(1) Objective: To investigate the relationship between serum macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) level and white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and executive function (EF) in cerebral small vascular disease (CSVD), and assess the impact and predictive value of MIF level and Fazekas scores in CSVD-related cognitive impairment (CI) (CSVD-CI); (2) Methods: A total of 117 patients with WMH admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical College from January 2022 to August 2022 were enrolled. According to the Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA) scale, subjects were divided into a normal cognitive group and an impaired group. All subjects required serum MIF level, 3.0 T MRI, and neuropsychological evaluation to investigate the risk factors for CDVD-CI, analyze the correlation between MIF level, WMH, and EF, and to analyze the diagnostic value of MIF and WMH degree in predicting CSVD-CI; (3) Results: 1. Fazekas score and MIF level were the risk factors of CSVD-CI. 2. The Fazekas score was negatively correlated with MoCA score, positively correlated with Stroop C-Time, Stroop C-Mistake, Stroop interference effects (SIE)-Time, SIE-Mistake, and color trails test (CTT) interference effects (CIE) (B-A). 3. The MIF level was positively correlated with Fazekas score, Stroop C-Time, SIE-Time, CTT B-Time, and CIE (B-A), and negatively correlated with MoCA score. 4. Fazekas score and MIF level were significant factors for diagnosing CSVD-CI; (4) Conclusion: The Fazekas score and MIF level may be the risk factors of CSVD-CI, and they are closely correlated to CI, especially the EF, and they have diagnostic value for CSVD-CI.

The Prognostic Value of Domain-Specific Cognitive Abilities Assessed by Chinese Version of Oxford Cognitive Screen on Determining ADLs Recovery in Patients with Post-Stroke Cognitive Impairment. Abstract
Background Poststroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) has been increasingly recognized in patients. However, it remains unclear whether ADLs recovery is more susceptible to domain-specific cognitive abilities after a stroke. Therefore, the study was designed to investigate the cognitive functions of patients with PSCI at admission by using the Chinese (Putonghua) Version of the Oxford Cognitive Screen (OCS-P) as well as to identify the prognostic value of domain-specific cognitive abilities on the recovery of ADLs when discharged. Methods A total of 153 hospitalized stroke patients were included in this prospective study. Cognitive function was assessed by OCS-P when participants were admitted to the hospital. The ADLs were measured at admission and discharge, and recovery was estimated by the improvement between admission and discharge. A diagnostic model using logistic regression was constructed to identify the prognostic value of domain-specific cognitive abilities for ADLs. The efficacy and accuracy of the diagnostic model were assessed by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) and Hosmer-Lemeshow's goodness of fit test. The diagnostic model was validated by 10-fold cross-validation and presented as a nomogram. Results The score of OCS-P was 60(49.75, 69). The most frequently impaired cognitive domain was number writing (60.8%), followed by verbal memory (52.9%). Multivariate logistic regression showed executive dysfunction was a risk prognostic factor of ADLs recovery (P < 0.001, OR = 3.176 [95% CI, 1.218∼8.278]). The ROC curve of the diagnostic model was 0.839, with a good diagnostic efficacy. Hosmer–Lemeshow test showed diagnostic model had good calibration ability (χ2 = 8.939.3, P=0.347 > 0.05). The average error rate after adjustment of 10-fold cross-validation was 20.93%, within the acceptable range. Conclusions Post-stroke patients generally suffered from multidimensional cognitive impairments. Executive dysfunction screened with OCS-P at clinical admission was a reliable and accessible predictive factor ADLs recovery in patients with PSCI. Early targeted rehabilitation programs are suggested to make them as earlier as possible, especially for those having executive dysfunction while hospitalized.

Abstract
Executive functions include functions such as planning, working memory, inhibition, mental flexibility, and action monitoring and initiation, and are essential to carry out an independent everyday life. Individuals suffering from brain injury, such as a stroke, very commonly experience executive deficits that reduce the capacity to regain functional independence. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in developing tablet computer-based cognitive training programs for stroke patients and healthy aging adults since such programs can be included in non-supervised environments. In this respect, we described and evaluated the usability of a novel tablet application (app) for executive function training, developed in the context of the MEMORI-net project, a cross-border Italy-Slovenia program for the rehabilitation of stroke patients. We conducted a pilot study with a non-clinical sample of 16 participants to obtain information about the usability of the sFEra APP. Our descriptive analyses suggest that most users were satisfied with the overall experience and the app was highly usable, and instructions were clear, even with little previous experience with tablet applications. Acceptability and effectiveness will need to be evaluated in a clinical randomized controlled study.

Abstract
Visuoexecutive impairment is common among acute ischemic stroke patients. This study aimed to examine the ability of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) visuoexecutive subtests to detect visuoexecutive abnormality in acute ischemic stroke patients and to identify the predictors for their impairments. 336 patients who completed the MMSE and MoCA were enrolled in this study. We compared the proportion of participants with incorrect MoCA visuoexecutive tasks and MMSE pentagon copying. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the associations between the visuoexecutive dysfunction and demographic and clinical characteristics in the samples. Among all the participants, the MoCA detected more visuoexecutive dysfunction than the MMSE (88.69% vs. 45.83%, respectively; p < 0.001). The predictors identified by the univariate analysis included the factors of gender, age, educational level, smoking, alcohol consumption, Oxfordshire Community Stroke Project (OCSP), previous strokes, initial NIHSS score and number of old lacunar infarctions, while from the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the factors of age, educational level, NIHSS score, previous strokes and number of old lacunar infarctions served as predictive factors for the visuoexecutive impairment in acute stroke patients. In conclusion, visuoexecutive impairment is associated with the factors of the educational level, stroke severity, stroke history and number of old lacunar infarctions. Our findings may guide the clinicians to intervene the risks for the patients at an early stage after stroke and form the basis for good rehabilitation plans.

Abstract
Objective The purpose of the study was to observe the effects of executive dysfunction (ED) on gait and postural control during walking after stroke. Methods In this study, 34 subjects with stroke and ED (8 women and 26 men; age, 55.41 ± 7.89 years; time since stroke onset, 1.3 ± 0.12 months) were recruited. Stroop color-word test (SCWT), 10-meter walk test (10MWT), timed-up-and-go test (TUGT), and gait analysis were evaluated. The correlation among the correct number of Stroop tasks (SCWT-C), the number of time-consuming tasks (SCWT-T), the amount of interference (SIE-M and SIE-T) and posture control, and gait-related parameters was analyzed. Results The results indicated that SCWT-C was negatively correlated with 10MWT, TUGT, and bilateral symmetry (P < 0.05). However, there was no significant correlation between SCWT-C and stride (P > 0.05). A significant negative correlation was seen between SCWT-C and bilateral symmetry (P < 0.05). There was no significant correlation between SCWT-T and stride (P > 0.05). SCWT-T was positively correlated with TUGT, 10MWT, and bilateral symmetry (P < 0.05). SIE-T was positively correlated with TUGT and bilateral symmetry (P < 0.05). There was no significant correlation between SIE-T and 10MWT or stride (P > 0.05). SIE-M was positively correlated with TUGT and bilateral symmetry (P < 0.05). There was no significant correlation between SIE-T and 10MWT or stride (P > 0.05). Conclusions ED is closely related to the decline in postural control and the occurrence of falls. In the early phases of stroke rehabilitation, physiotherapists should focus on the patients' executive function to accelerate the recovery of postural control.

Abstract
The impacts of sex differences on the biology of various organ systems and the influences of sex hormones on modulating health and disease have become increasingly relevant in clinical and biomedical research. A growing body of evidence has recently suggested fundamental sex differences in cardiovascular and cognitive function, including anatomy, pathophysiology, incidence and age of disease onset, symptoms affecting disease diagnosis, disease severity, progression, and treatment responses and outcomes. Atrial fibrillation (AF) is currently recognized as the most prevalent sustained arrhythmia and might contribute to the pathogenesis and progression of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI), including a range of cognitive deficits, from mild cognitive impairment to dementia. In this review, we describe sex-based differences and sex hormone functions in the physiology of the brain and vasculature and the pathophysiology of disorders therein, with special emphasis on AF and VCI. Deciphering how sex hormones and their receptor signaling (estrogen and androgen receptors) potentially impact on sex differences could help to reveal disease links between AF and VCI and identify therapeutic targets that may lead to potentially novel therapeutic interventions early in the disease course of AF and VCI.

Abstract
A validation study the Iranian Modified Barthel Index (MBI) in hospitalized acute stroke elderly by classical test theory approach and investigate Rasch analysis for both Iranian version MBI and BI and compare the hierarchical item difficulty of them. Face-to-face interview with 100 geriatric stroke inpatients 60+ or their caregivers was done in a cross-sectional study. First, construct validity of MBI analyzed by the classical test theory, then Rasch analysis were done for BI and MBI. The reliability of the Iranian MBI was significant at 0.955. One factor achieved by the variance of 83.2%. In Rasch analysis for MBI, the most difficult item was stair climbing, whereas the simplest items were bowel and bladder control. In BI, the most difficult items were toilet use and ambulation. The Iranian MBI is very accurate and reliable; therefore the use of MBI to measure better outcomes in stroke elderly inpatients is recommended comparing with BI.

Abstract
Aim The primary aim of this study was to investigate the applicability of the Patient-Specific Functional Scale (PSFS) in patients with acquired brain injury (ABI) admitted to a specialized rehabilitation unit in a regional hospital. A secondary aim was to identify patient characteristics and functioning that predicted changes in the PSFS. Patients and Methods In a cohort study, 59 patients with ABI were assessed for the ability to complete the PSFS. A trained multidisciplinary team applied the PSFS as part of a collaborative development of rehabilitation goals. The modified Rankin Scale (mRS), the Functional Ambulation Categories (FAC), the Rivermead Behavioural Memory Test (RBMT), the Norwegian Basic Aphasia Assessment (NBAA) and the Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment (LOTCA) were used to identify characteristics of the sample. Multivariate regression analyses were performed to investigate associations between changes in the PSFS score from admission to discharge and a selected set of participant baseline characteristics and functioning. Results Fifty-four patients (92%) of the patients with ABI were able to complete the PSFS. The five (8%) who were unable to complete the PSFS had severe cognitive or language impairment. The PSFS score improved by a mean of 2.6 (SD 2.0) points from admission to discharge. The LOTCA score made the strongest unique contribution to explain the change in the PSFS score (beta = 0.477, p= 0.020). Conclusion In the present study, most patients with ABI (92%) were able to complete the PSFS. Cognitive function on admission was a predictor of improved functioning on the PSFS.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the interactive effect of cognitive function and intervention on walking independence of stroke patients. Stroke patients (n=405) who admitted to convalescent rehabilitation ward, were classified as being walking independent or dependent. To examine the interaction between cognitive function and intervention, high cognitive function (functional independence measure score ≥20) and physical therapy and occupational therapy intervention delivered in 1 day (lasting >2 hr) were defined as cognition-intervention interaction and included as independent variables. The incidence of walking independence was calculated using Kaplan–Meier curves. Intergroup differences were estimated using log-rank test. Cox proportional hazards analysis was used to extract the predictors of walking independence. Survival analyses using Kaplan–Meier log-rank test showed that the probability of incidence of walking independence was significantly higher in the presence of a cognition-intervention interaction. The results of Cox proportional hazards analysis showed that age, left versus right cerebral damage, and cognition-intervention interaction significantly influenced walking independence at discharge from the hospital. The hazard ratios were 0.971 per year of age, 0.544 for left versus right cerebral damage, and 1.794 for cognition-intervention interaction. Walking independence was more likely to be achieved by stroke patients with high cognitive function who received therapy. In other words, the conditions that increase the likelihood of an effect of therapy intervention on walking independence were identified in this study.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify clinicians' perceptions of current levels of implementation of cognitive rehabilitation best practices, as well as individual and consensual group priorities for implementing cognitive rehabilitation interventions as part of a multi-site integrated knowledge translation initiative. METHOD A two-step consensus-building methodology was used, that is the Technique for Research of Information by Animation of a Group of Experts (TRIAGE), including a cross-sectional electronic survey followed by consensual in-person group discussions to identify implementation priorities from a list of evidence-based practices for cognitive rehabilitation following traumatic brain injury and stroke. Thirty-eight professionals from three rehabilitation teams (n = 9, 13 and 16) participated, including neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, educators, clinical coordinators and program managers. Descriptive statistics were used to document the perceived levels of implementation as well as individual and consensual group priorities. RESULTS Most of the best practices (81-100%) were perceived as at least partially implemented by a minimum of 50% of the participants but only 20-25% of the practices were considered fully implemented. Findings suggest that current practices are mostly consistent with general cognitive rehabilitation principles suggested in guidelines but that further efforts are needed to support the application of specific cognitive rehabilitation strategies and interventions. Executive function and self-awareness retraining, as well as interventions promoting the generalization of skills, were among the highest implementation priorities. Consensual in-person group discussions, included as part of the TRIAGE process, also helped to define and operationalize these best practices into more specific intervention components according to the teams' needs and priorities. CONCLUSIONS TRIAGE consensus-building methodology can be used to engage stakeholders and support clinicians' decision-making regarding the identification of implementation priorities in cognitive rehabilitation post-ABI in order to tailor the implementation process to local needs.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONThe Technique for Research of Information by Animation of a Group of Experts (TRIAGE) can be used to support clinicians' decision-making regarding the identification of implementation priorities in cognitive rehabilitation post-ABI.The combination of individual consultations followed by consensual in-person group discussions, as part of the TRIAGE process, may help clinicians in defining and operationalizing best practices into more specific intervention components to implement.Effective implementation strategies are needed to support the use of specific cognitive rehabilitation interventions in prioritized areas, such as executive function and self-awareness retraining, as well as generalization of skills.Some differences in clinicians' perceived priorities point up the importance of tailoring implementation to local needs and contexts from the early stages in the process.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate if patients with neuropsychological disorders (neglect, aphasia, or cognitive dysfunction measured with the Mini-mental state examination) short after stroke have different functional outcome at follow-up compared to patients without these disorders. METHODS Embase, Medline-Ovid, PsycINFO, Cochrane CENTRAL, Web of Science and Google Scholar were systematically searched for cohort studies up to 3 March 2019. PRISMA guidelines were followed. Functional outcome had to be measured with the Barthel Index or the Functional Independence Measure. If at least three studies studying the same neuropsychological disorder reported functional outcome at comparable follow-up, meta-analysis were performed and the quality of evidence was assessed using GRADE. RESULTS The search resulted in 5398 unique articles and finally 27 articles were included. Pooled results show a standardized mean difference of -0.93 (95% confidence interval [-1.27 to -0.59]), indicating that the group with neglect short after stroke has significant lower functional outcome at follow-up. Regarding aphasia, the standardized mean difference was -0.50 (95% confidence interval [-0.72 to -0.28]). It appears in the limited articles available that patients with cognitive dysfunction have lower scores for functional outcome. CONCLUSIONS Patients with neglect or aphasia, especially aphasia with comprehension deficits, short after stroke have significant worse functional outcome.Implications for rehabilitationClinicians should perform an extensive screening for neglect, aphasia, and cognitive disorders to make sure to diagnose the different neuropsychological disorders correctly.When patients with neuropsychological disorders are referred for rehabilitation, it can be expected that they need a longer rehabilitation period or may never reach the same level of functioning.Clinicians should pay attention to instructions of training moments outside therapy and involve caregivers and patients family making these training moments more effective.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Memory and cognitive deficits post stroke are common and associated with increased risk of future dementia. Rehabilitation tends to focus on physical recovery; however, once in the community, it is unclear what happens in the longer term to the stroke-survivor with new memory difficulties. OBJECTIVE The aim of this qualitative study was to examine in stroke-survivors what factors influence contact with health professionals. METHOD Semi-structured interviews were conducted with stroke-survivors and their family carers where memory difficulties were reported at 6 months post stroke. A topic guide was used which sought to critically examine participants care experience following their stroke diagnosis. All participants were interviewed at baseline (around 6 months post stroke) and offered an interview at around 12 months post stroke. All interviews were conducted in the North East of England. All transcripts were coded and thematically analysed. RESULTS Ten stroke-survivors (age range 72-84 years) were interviewed alongside five carers at baseline; eight stroke-survivors and four carers agreed to a follow-up interview. Three main barriers were identified: (i) fear of a dementia diagnosis; (ii) denial or minimization of symptoms leading to adaptation and (iii) obstacles to seeking help in the community. CONCLUSIONS With an ageing population and increase in stroke-survival, the burden of post-stroke cognitive impairment and dementia will only increase. Stroke-survivors and their family carers in this study have identified issues that may hinder their presentation to health care professionals at a personal and organizational level. Health professionals need to be aware of these potential issues when planning services for stroke-survivors.

The predisposing and precipitating risk factors for delirium in neurosurgery: a prospective cohort study of 949 patients. Acta Neurochir (Wien) 2019; 161:1307-1315. Abstract
BACKGROUND Delirium is the most common neuropsychiatric presentation during hospitalization. In neurosurgery, studies on predisposing and precipitating risk factors for the development of delirium are rare but required for the individual risk estimation. METHODS Prospective cohort study in a tertiary university center. In total, 949 neurosurgical patients, 307 with and 642 without delirium, were included. Demographic factors, neurosurgery-related, neurological, and medical clusters were tested as predictors of delirium in multiple logistic regression analyses. RESULTS The incidence of delirium in this cohort of neurosurgical patients was 32.4%. Compared to patients without delirium, those with delirium were significantly older, more cognitively and neurologically impaired, transferred from hospitals and nursing homes, admitted as emergencies, longer hospitalized (16.2 vs. 9.5 days; p < 0.001), in greater need of intensive care management, and more frequently transferred to rehabilitation. Predisposing factors of delirium were stroke (OR 5.45, CI 2.12-14.0, p < 0.001), cardiac insufficiency (OR 4.59, CI 1.09-19.26, p = 0.038), cerebral neoplasm (OR 1.53, CI 0.92-2.54, p = 0.019), and age ≥ 65 years (OR 1.47, CI 1.03-2.09, p = 0.030). Precipitating factors of delirium were acute cerebral injury (OR 3.91, CI 2.24-6.83, p < 0.001), hydrocephalus (OR 3.10, CI 1.98-4.87, p < 0.001), and intracranial hemorrhage (OR 1.90, CI 1.23-2.94, p = 0.004). CONCLUSIONS Delirium in acute neurosurgical patients was associated with longer hospitalization. Whereas common etiologies of delirium like infections and dementia, did not predict delirium, pre-existing neurovascular and traumatic diseases, as well as surgery-related events seem important risk factors contributing to delirium in neurosurgery.

Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this critical review was to evaluate the current state of research regarding the incremental value of neuropsychological assessment in clinical practice, above and beyond what can be accounted for on the basis of demographic, medical, and other diagnostic variables. The focus was on neurological and other medical conditions across the lifespan where there is known risk for presence or future development of cognitive impairment.Method: Eligible investigations were group studies that had been published after 01/01/2000 in English in peer-reviewed journals and that had used standardized neuropsychological measures and reported on objective outcome criterion variables. They were identified through PubMed and PsychInfo electronic databases on the basis of predefined specific selection criteria. Reference lists of identified articles were also reviewed to identify potential additional sources. The Grades of Recommendation, Assessment, Development and Evaluation Working Group's (GRADE) criteria were used to evaluate quality of studies.Results: Fifty-six studies met the final selection criteria, including 2 randomized-controlled trials, 9 prospective cohort studies, 12 retrospective cohort studies, 21 inception cohort studies, 2 case control studies, and 10 case series studies. The preponderance of the evidence was strongly supportive with regard to the incremental value of neuropsychological assessment in the care of persons with mild cognitive impairment/dementia and traumatic brain injury. Evidence was moderately supportive with regard to stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Participation in neuropsychological evaluations was also associated with cost savings.Conclusions: Neuropsychological assessment can improve both diagnostic classification and prediction of long-term daily-life outcomes in patients across the lifespan. Future high-quality prospective cohort studies and randomized-controlled trials are necessary to demonstrate more definitively the incremental value of neuropsychological assessment in the management of patients with various neurological and other medical conditions.

Abstract
ABSTRACT:Background: We reviewed numerous variables for ischemic stroke patients admitted to a rehabilitation unit to determine those that were statistically associated with discharge destination. Methods: A retrospective chart review of patients with ischemic stroke discharged from the rehabilitation unit between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2015. Variables were examined for their association with discharge destination (home versus long-term care (LTC)). Univariable relationships with discharge destination were assessed, and a multivariable logistic regression model was built. Results: Univariate predictors of discharge to LTC: advanced age, decreasing admission and discharge functional independence measure (FIM) scores, increasing change in FIM score from admission to discharge, dependency, residence outside of home before the stroke, absence of a caregiver, urinary and bowel incontinence, low Berg balance score at admission and discharge, low Montreal Cognitive Assessment scores, smoking, chronic heart failure, and an inability to transfer. Multivariable logistic regression: five factors remained significant predictors with LTC disposition: advanced age, bowel incontinence, residence outside of the home prior to stroke, right hemisphere site of the stroke, and absence of a caregiver. Conclusions: Several easily measured variables were significantly associated with discharge to LTC versus home following stroke rehabilitation.
