Abstract
Background Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a well-established surgical procedure used to treat significant coronary artery disease. Nevertheless, unfavorable cardiovascular events and complications, including cardiac arrhythmias may be observed in patients after CABG. Previous studies have revealed a relationship between risk of cardiac arrhythmias and abnormal heart rate variability (HRV), which reflects adverse alterations in cardiac autonomic functioning, that may occur in patients after a CABG procedure. The aim of this article was to provide a systematic review of the major research findings in this area. Methods A literature search was carried out using PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase databases and relevant articles, published in English, were analyzed in detail. Results Studies performed so far have shown time depending changes in HRV after CABG. Time and frequency domain HRV decrease acutely after CABG but recover almost completely to pre-operative values by 6 months after surgery. Some preoperative clinical states such as: heart failure, type 2 diabetes mellitus and depression adversely affect post-CABG HRV. Finally, post-CABG cardiac rehabilitation appears to improve exercise capacity and speed up recovery of HRV. Conclusions Generally, traditional time and frequency domain HRV parameters fail to predict complications post-CABG. Altered non-linear measures of HRV may identify subgroups of subjects at increased risk of potential complications, including atrial fibrillation post-CABG. However, data available currently does not appear to unequivocally support the hypothesis that early HRV assessment in post-CABG patients predicts long-term mortality.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aims of our study were to investigate the sex differences in late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) in a single-centre cohort of consecutive patients with acute myocarditis (AM). METHOD This retrospective study performed CMR scans in 135 consecutive patients with AM that met the Lake Louise criteria. On CMR, LV ventricular strain functions were performed on conventional cine SSFP sequences. Besides myocardial strain measurements, myocardial scar location, extension, and size were assigned and quantified by LGE imaging. RESULTS There was no difference in age (age 42.51 ± 19.64 years vs 40.92 ± 19.94 years; p = 0.74) and cardiovascular risk profile between women and men. Despite similar comorbidities, women were more like to present with dyspnea (p = 0.001). Women demonstrated higher prevalence of septal LGE (p = 0.004) and increased global circumferential strain parameters (p = 0.008) in comparison with men. In multivariate analysis, female sex remained an independent determinant of septal LGE (β coefficient = -0.520, p = 0.001). CONCLUSION This is the first study reporting sex differences in LGE localization in AM. Women have more septal LGE involvement independent of age, cardiovascular risk factors, and CMR parameters. These findings further emphasize the sex-based differences in cardiovascular diseases.

Abstract
In recent years, cardiovascular imaging examinations have experienced exponential growth due to technological innovation, and this trend is consistent with the most recent chest pain guidelines. Contrast media have a crucial role in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging, allowing for more precise characterization of different cardiovascular diseases. However, contrast media have contraindications and side effects that limit their clinical application in determinant patients. The application of artificial intelligence (AI)-based techniques to CMR imaging has led to the development of non-contrast models. These AI models utilize non-contrast imaging data, either independently or in combination with clinical and demographic data, as input to generate diagnostic or prognostic algorithms. In this review, we provide an overview of the main concepts pertaining to AI, review the existing literature on non-contrast AI models in CMR, and finally, discuss the strengths and limitations of these AI models and their possible future development.

Abstract
On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization raised the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) status to a pandemic level. The disease caused a global outbreak with devastating consequences, and a fair percentage of patients who have recovered from it continue experiencing persistent sequelae. Hence, identifying the medium and long-term effects of the COVID-19 disease is crucial for its future management. In particular, cardiac complications, from affected function to myocardial injuries, have been reported in these patients. Considering that cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging is the gold standard in diagnosing myocardial involvement and has more advantages than other medical imaging modalities, assessing the outcomes of patients who recovered from COVID-19 with CMR could prove beneficial. This review compiles common findings in CMR in patients from the general population who recovered from COVID-19. The CMR-based techniques comprised parametric mapping for analyzing myocardial composition, feature tracking for studying regional heart deformation, and late gadolinium enhancement for detecting compromised areas in the cardiac muscle. A total of 19 studies were included. The evidence suggests that it is more likely to find signs of myocardial injury in patients who recovered from COVID-19 than in healthy controls, including changes in T1 and T2 mapping relaxation times, affected strain, or the presence of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) lesions. However, more than two years after the outbreak, there is still a lack of consensus about how these parameters may indicate cardiac involvement in patients who recovered from the disease, as limited and contradictory data is available.

Abstract
Negative left ventricular (LV) remodeling consequent to acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is characterized by an increase in LV volumes in the presence of a depressed LVEF. In order to restore the shape, size, and function of the LV, operative treatment options to achieve volume reduction and shape reconstruction should be considered. In the past decade, conventional surgical LV reconstruction through a full median sternotomy has evolved towards a hybrid transcatheter and less invasive LV reconstruction. In order to perform a safe and effective hybrid LV reconstruction, thorough knowledge of the technical considerations and adequate use of multimodality imaging both pre- and intraoperatively are fundamental. In addition, a comprehensive understanding of the individual procedural steps from both a cardiological and surgical point of view is required.

Abstract
Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is associated with adverse clinical outcomes and implicates clinical decision-making. The aim of our study was to assess the importance of different approaches in the screening for LVH. We included patients who underwent cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging and had available chest radiograph in medical documentation. Cardiothoracic ratio (CTR), transverse cardiac diameter (TCD), clinical and selected electrocardiographic (ECG)-LVH data, including the Peguero-Lo Presti criterion, were assessed. CMR−LVH was defined based on indexed left ventricular mass-to-body surface area. Receiver operating characteristics analyses showed that both the CTR and TCD (CTR: area under the curve: [AUC] = 0.857, p < 0.001; TCD: AUC = 0.788, p = 0.001) were predictors for CMR−LVH. However, analyses have shown that diagnoses made with TCD, but not CTR, were consistent with CMR−LVH. From the analyzed ECG−LVH criteria, the Peguero-Lo Presti criterion was the best predictor of LVH. The best sensitivity for screening for LVH was observed when the presence of heart failure, ≥40 years in age (each is assigned 1 point), increased TCD and positive Peguero-Lo Presti criterion (each is assigned 2 points) were combined (CAR2E2 score ≥ 3 points). CAR2E2 score may improve prediction of LVH compared to other approaches. Therefore, it may be useful in the screening for LVH in everyday clinical practice in patients with prevalent cardiovascular diseases.
