Abstract
The impact of vitamin B2 (riboflavin) intake on cognitive performance among older adults in the United States (US) remains inadequately understood. This study aimed to explore the association between vitamin B2 intake and cognitive performance among non-institutionalized elderly people in the US. Weighted logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between vitamin B2 intake and cognitive performance. Vitamin B2 intake was determined from the mean of two 24-hour dietary recall interviews. Three cognitive ability assessment tests, namely the Immediate Recall Test (IRT), Animal Fluency Test (AFT), and Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST), were performed. Participants included all older adults over 60 who underwent cognitive scoring, with cut-offs defined based on the lowest quartile (25th percentile) for each test (the cut-offs for the three scores were 15.625, 12, and 33, respectively). Sensitivity analysis, including dose-response curves, subgroup analyses, interaction effects, per 1 standard deviation (SD), recommended dietary allowance (RDA), and residual energy model analysis, were performed to solidify the solid association between vitamin B2 and cognitive performance. A total of 2893 individuals aged over 60 were included, with a mean age of 69 (7) years, and 46% were men. There was a significant association between vitamin B2 intake and all three cognitive scores (IRT, Odds Ratio = 0.77, 95% confidence interval: [0.65,0.92]; AFT, 0.75, [0.64,0.88]; DSST, 0.72, [0.59,0.88]). Moreover, vitamin B2 intake above the RDA reduced the risk of low cognitive performance (IRT, 0.66, [0.46,0.93]; AFT, 0.83, [0.62,1.11]; DSST, 0.65, [0.45,0.92]) compared to intake below the RDA. Dose-response curves indicated that higher vitamin B2 intake was negatively associated with the risk of low cognitive performance. Physical activity may modify the association between vitamin B2 and cognitive performance. Vitamin B2 intake was positively associated with cognitive performance among older adults. Adequate vitamin B2 intake could help protect cognitive function.

Abstract
Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) neuropathy is a polygenic disorder of peripheral nerves with no effective cure. Thiamine (vitamin B1) is a neurotropic compound that improves neuropathies. Our pilot study characterizes therapeutic potential of daily oral administration of thiamine (100 mg) in CMT neuropathy and its molecular mechanisms. The patient hand grip strength was determined before and after thiamine administration along with the blood levels of the thiamine coenzyme form (thiamine diphosphate, ThDP), activities of endogenous holo-transketolase (without ThDP in the assay medium) and total transketolase (with ThDP in the assay medium), and transketolase activation by ThDP [1 - (holo-transketolase/total transketolase),%], corresponding to the fraction of ThDP-free apo-transketolase. Single cases of administration of sulbutiamine (200 mg) or benfotiamine (150 mg) reveal their effects on the assayed parameters within those of thiamine. Administration of thiamine or its pharmacological forms increased the hand grip strength in the CMT patients. Comparison of the thiamin status in patients with different forms of CMT disease to that of control subjects without diagnosed pathologies revealed no significant differences in the average levels of ThDP, holo-transketolase, or relative content of holo and apo forms of transketolase. However, the regulation of transketolase by thiamine/ThDP differed in the control and CMT groups: in the assay, ThDP activated transketolase from the control individuals, but not from CMT patients. Thiamine administration paradoxically decreased endogenous holo-transketolase in CMT patients; this effect was not observed in the control group. Correlation analysis revealed sex-specific differences in the relationship between the parameters of thiamine status in both the control subjects and patients with the CMT disease. Thus, our findings link physiological benefits of thiamine administration in CMT patients to changes in their thiamine status, in particular, the blood levels of ThDP and transketolase regulation.

Abstract
Aim The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between intake of vitamins B1, B6, B9 and B12 with emotional mental disorders among nurses in Indonesia. Design This cross‐sectional study included nurses who have worked at least six months at a private hospital in Indonesia from March to April 2021. Methods We used the Food Frequency Questionnaire, Self‐Reporting Questionnaire 20 and the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale questionnaire to assess the B‐vitamin intake, emotional mental disorders and work‐related stress. Results Of 80 interviewed nurses, 8.8% experienced severe work‐related stress, and 22.5% had emotional mental disorders. Most nurses had inadequate intake of vitamins B1 and B9 but had adequate intake of vitamins B6 (72.5%) and B12 (56.3%). Emotional mental disorders are more probably to occur in nurses with less intake of vitamins B6 and B12, with respective aOR of 20.06, 95% CI 4.14–97.09 (p < .001) and 4.49, 95% CI 1.19–16.83 (p = .026).

Abstract
Background Dietary habits and dietary intake affect telomere length, a reliable marker of biological aging and a predictor of chronic disease. Riboflavin (RF) is known as a water-soluble antioxidant vitamin, but its role in telomere length maintenance has yet to be elucidated. Objective The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between dietary RF intake and telomere length in a nationally representative sample of adults. Methods Using the NHANES (1999–2002), telomere data of 4,298 participants aged ≥45 years were analyzed in a cross-sectional manner. Leukocyte telomere length was measured using the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). Dietary RF intake was assessed by a trained interviewer using 24-h dietary recall method. Generalized linear regressions were performed to evaluate the association between dietary RF intake and telomere length. Subgroup analyses were performed to further explore this relationship in sex and body mass index (BMI) subgroups. Results Among the 3,788 participants included, the average telomere length was longer in females (P = 0.014), while they had a lower average RF intake compared to males (P < 0.001). There was a weak positive correlation between RF intake and telomere length both when unadjusted (β = 0.011; P = 0.037) and adjusted for age, sex, and ethnicity (β = 0.013; P = 0.033). Subgroup analyses showed a positive association between RF intake and the telomere length in female after adjusting for confounding factors (β = 0.029; P = 0.046). In the female subgroup, there were significant positive relationships between telomere length and RF intake in the obese group (β = 0.086, P = 0.022). Conclusion Increased dietary RF intake was significantly associated with longer telomere length in middle-aged and older American females, especially in low RF intake obese female.

Abstract
High-fitness individuals have been suggested to be at risk of a poor vitamin B2 (riboflavin) status due to a potentially higher vitamin B2 demand, as measured by the erythrocyte glutathione reductase (EGR) activation coefficient (EGRAC). Longer-term exercise interventions have been shown to result in a lower vitamin B2 status, but studies are contradictory. Short-term exercise effects potentially contribute to discrepancies between studies but have only been tested in limited study populations. This study investigated if vitamin B2 status, measured by EGRAC, is affected by a single exercise bout in females who differ in fitness levels, and that represents long-term physical activity. At baseline and overnight after a 60-min cycling bout at 70% V·O2peak, EGR activity and EGRAC were measured in 31 young female adults, divided into a high-fit (V·O2peak ≥ 47 mL/kg/min, N = 15) and low-fit (V·O2peak ≤ 37 mL/kg/min, N = 16) group. A single exercise bout significantly increased EGR activity in high-fit and low-fit females (Ptime = 0.006). This response was not affected by fitness level (Ptime*group = 0.256). The effect of exercise on EGRAC was not significant (Ptime = 0.079) and not influenced by EGR activity. The exercise response of EGRAC was not significantly different between high-fit and low-fit females (Ptime*group = 0.141). Thus, a single exercise bout increased EGR activity, but did not affect EGRAC, indicating that vitamin B2 status was not affected. The exercise response on EGRAC and EGR did not differ between high-fit and low-fit females.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Low intake of B vitamins can lead to hyperhomocysteinaemia, which is reported as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, little is known about this relationship. Therefore, we decided to examine the association between dietary intake of B vitamins and cardiovascular risk factors in elderly men. METHODS The present cross-sectional study consisted of 357 elderly men. Dietary intake was assessed using a validated and reliable food frequency questionnaire. All biochemical factors [fasting blood sugar (FBS), triglyceride (TG), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), interleukin 6 (IL-6) and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α)], waist circumference (WC) and blood pressure (BP) were assessed using standard methods. RESULTS A significant inverse association was observed between high dietary intake of total B vitamins (ORTotal B vitamins : 0.30; 95% CI: 0.10, 0.86; P = .01) and vitamin B9 (ORvitamin B9 : 0.20; 95% CI: 0.02, 0.52; P = .002) with high WC. Furthermore, an inverse association was observed between high dietary intake of vitamin B6 (ORvitamin B6 : 0.28; 95% CI: 0.08, 1.00; P = .05) and vitamin B9 (ORvitamin B9 : 0.20; 95% CI: 0.06, 0.70; P = .01) with hs-CRP level. CONCLUSIONS In elderly men, a high dietary intake of total B vitamins and vitamin B9 was associated with lower odds of having a high WC. Similarly, high dietary intake of vitamin B6 and B9 was associated with lower odds of having a high hs-CRP level.

Abstract
This study is aimed at determining the content of water soluble vitamins in amateur sportsmen before and after the use of reduction diet. Twenty adult male amateur sportsmen aged between 20 and 43 qualified for this study. The participants adhered to individually adjusted reduction diets for 3 months. Diet supplements were excluded from the diet during that time. Vitamins were analyzed before and after the reduction diet using HPLC. The following vitamins were analyzed: B1, B2, B3, PP, B5, B6, B7, B9, B12 and vitamin C. Statistically significant increase of riboflavin in blood plasma (p=0.0254) and statistically significant (p=0.048) decrease in the concentration of niacin was found when compared to the period before the diet. Appropriate level of riboflavin can be obtained by the consumption of proper amount of diary in the diet. Supplementation with PP is advised and, in case of improper diet, the supplementation of B1, B7 and B12 may also be considered.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION One of systemic changes connected to body ageing is the change of body content and the possibility of formation and/or intensification of insulin resistance, dyslipidemia and hypertension symptoms. MATERIAL AND METHODS The research was conducted on 68 women aged 65-85 with body mass index (BMI) of 25.3 to 44.5 kg/m(2) who have been educated for four months. The energy and nutritive value of 204 daily food rations (DFRs) was evaluated twice: first days of October and - after the diet correction and implementation of the basic rules - from the end of January. The measurements, anthropometric and body content (in 35 women under research) with the bio-impedance method was checked twice - before and after completing the education. RESULTS After completing the education, there was a statistically significant increase in consumption of grain products, fermented milk products, potatoes, fruit and vegetables, as well as seeds of legumes. Consumption of meat and cold meats, sugar and sweets significantly decreased. In the course of education, an individual-specific decrease in body mass of the participants was noticed, which found its reflection in positive changes of the anthropometric indicators value. A significant decrease in fat content in bodies of women under research was also noticed, which was accompanied by a slight increase in fat-free body mass and water. CONCLUSIONS The four-month pro-health education of women influenced changes in improper nutrition habits resulting in, besides the improvement of organism functions and well-being of women under research, body mass loss and changes in content of the body.
