Abstract
INTRODUCTION Breast cancer is presently the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women, and it stands as the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Notably, breast cancer rates have seen a significant increase in sub-Saharan African countries, including Ethiopia. Several risk factors contribute to breast cancer, some of which can be modified, while others are inherent. Promoting a healthier diet is strongly encouraged as a preventive measure against breast cancer. However, it's noteworthy that no previous research has investigated the connection between dietary patterns and the risk of breast cancer among Ethiopian women. Therefore, the primary objective of the current study is to examine the relationship between dietary patterns, socioeconomic and behavior factors associated with breast cancer in Ethiopian women. METHODS A case-control study was conducted at an institution in Bahir Dar, Northwest Ethiopia, involving 260 women, comprising 86 cases and 174 controls. We administered a standardized and validated questionnaire to assess a range of sociodemographic, reproductive, clinical, lifestyle, and dietary characteristics through face-to-face interviews. To analyze the differences between the cases and controls, we employed the Chi-square test. Furthermore, we assessed the relationships between these variables using binary multivariate logistic regression. To measure the association between variables, we utilized odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS The results of the multivariate analysis indicated that participants in the younger age group had significantly lower odds of developing breast cancer (AOR = 0.05; 95% CI: 0.00-0.91) compared to those in the older age group. Additionally, women who breastfed their children for shorter durations were 3.66 times more likely to develop breast cancer (AOR = 3.66; 95% CI: 2.78-6.89) than those who breastfed for longer periods. Furthermore, women with sedentary lifestyles faced a significantly higher risk of breast cancer, with odds 10.53 times greater (AOR = 10.53; 95% CI: 5.21-21.36) than their counterparts who engaged in moderate or highly active lifestyles. Lastly, participants who had previously undergone chest therapy were 6.43 times more likely to develop breast cancer (AOR = 6.43; 95% CI: 3.20-13.90) compared to those who had not. CONCLUSIONS Breast cancer prevention interventions, including breastfeeding counseling and increased physical activity should be recognized as a central strategy for lowering breast cancer risk. Furthermore, healthcare providers should aim to minimize exposure to chest radiation therapy.

Abstract
This study aimed to determine the relationship between food pattern and dietary intake before and during chemotherapy with the severity of gastrointestinal side effects, cancer-related fatigue, and chemotherapy-induced pain. This study was performed on 204 patients with breast cancer who were undergoing chemotherapy. Dietary pattern was collected by food frequency questionnaire and dietary intake during chemotherapy using a 24-hour food recall questionnaire. The severity of chemotherapy side effects including nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhea, CRF, and pain was also assessed by valid questionnaires. The relationship between dietary pattern and mean score of chemotherapy side effects was calculated using linear regression analysis. Three dietary patterns were extracted from the participants. After adjusting the effect of all possible confounders, no significant relationship was found between the dietary pattern one year before the start of treatment and the mean of chemotherapy side effects severity. Although the mean of daily energy intake with the severity of nausea and vomiting (r = -0.258, P-value <0.01), constipation, fatigue, and pain have a significant inverse relationship. Nutrition education and following a healthy diet are needed to reduce the severity of chemotherapy side effects during this period.

Abstract
Background The effect of dairy products intake on breast cancer (BC) is highly controversial. This study aims to investigate the relationship between dairy intake and BC incidence. Methods A search was carried out in PubMed, EBSCO, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases before January 2021. The primary objective was the risk of BC and intake of dairy products were exposure variables. Results The meta-analysis comprised 36 articles with 1,019,232 participants. Total dairy products have a protective effect on female population (hazard ratio (HR) =0.95, 95% confidence interval (CI) =0.91–0.99, p = 0.019), especially for estrogen receptor-positive (ER+) (HR = 0.79, p = 0.002) and progesterone receptor-positive (PR+) BC (HR = 0.75, p = 0.027). For ER+/PR+ BC, there is a trend of protection, but it has not reached statistical significance (HR = 0.92, p = 0.075). Fermented dairy products can reduce BC risk in postmenopausal population (HR = 0.96, 95%CI = 0.93–0.99, p = 0.021), but have no protective effect on premenopausal population (HR = 0.98, 95%CI = 0.94–1.03, p = 0.52). Non-fermented dairy products have no significant effect on BC occurrence (p > 0.05). High-fat dairy products are harmful to women, without statistical difference (HR = 1.06, 95%CI = 1.00–1.13, p = 0.066). On the contrary, low-fat dairy products can protect the premenopausal population (HR = 0.94, 95%CI = 0.89–1.00, p = 0.048). Conclusion The intake of dairy products can overall reduce BC risk in the female population, but different dairy products have varying effects on different BC subtypes and menopausal status. Abstract
Objective: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Many of these patients suffer from multiple psychological symptoms. The present study aimed to investigate the impact of acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on depression, pain acceptance, and psychological flexibility in married women with breast cancer. Methods: The present study was a pre- and post-test clinical trial with intervention and control groups. The research population consisted of women with breast cancer referred to the Ayatollah Yasrebi and Shahid Beheshti Hospitals in Kashan in 2018. Through a purposive sampling method, 40 women were selected and randomly divided into two groups, namely, intervention (n = 20) and control (n = 20). The applied tools included the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), Chronic Pain Acceptance Questionnaire 8 (CPAQ-8), and Acceptance and Action Questionnaire - II (AAQ-II). Data were analyzed by SPSS 16 using descriptive statistics and analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results: The results showed that ACT treatment significantly reduced the mean scores of depression compared to the control group (F = 107.72, p < 0.001). The mean scores of pain acceptance (F = 9.58, p < 0.05) and psychological flexibility (F = 10.61, p < 0 .05) significantly increased in comparison with the control group. Conclusion: ACT can be considered as an effective therapeutic approach to reduce depression and increase pain acceptance and psychological flexibility in women with breast cancer. These changes appear to be due to improved acceptance of thoughts and feelings associated with cancer and increased psychological flexibility, which is the primary goal of ACT treatment. Abstract
OBJECTIVES Breast cancer is known as one of the deadliest forms of cancer, and it is increasing globally. There are a variety of proven and controversial risk factors for this malignancy. Herein, we aimed to undertake a systematic review and meta-analysis focus on the epidemiology of breast cancer risk factors in Iran. METHODS We performed a systematic search via PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Persian databases for identifying studies published on breast cancer risk factors up to March 2019. Meta-analyses were done for risk factors reported in more than one study. We calculated odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) using a fixed/random-effects models. RESULTS Thirty-nine studies entered into the meta-analysis. Pooling of ORs showed a significant harmful effect for risk factors including family history (OR: 1.80, 95%CI 1.47-2.12), hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) (OR: 5.48, 95%CI 0.84-1.74), passive smokers (OR: 1.68, 95%CI 1.34-2.03), full-term pregnancy at age 30 (OR: 3.41, 95%CI 1.19-5.63), abortion (OR: 1.84, 95%CI 1.35-2.33), sweets consumption (OR: 1.71, 95%CI 1.32-2.11) and genotype Arg/Arg (crude OR: 1.59, 95%CI 1.07-2.10), whereas a significant protective effect for late menarche (OR: 0.58, 95%CI 0.32-0.83), nulliparity (OR: 0.68, 95%CI 0.39-0.96), 13-24 months of breastfeeding (OR: 0.68, 95%CI 0.46-0.90), daily exercise (OR: 0.59, 95%CI 0.44-0.73) and vegetable consumption (crude OR: 0.28, 95%CI 0.10-0.46). CONCLUSIONS This study suggests that factors such as family history, HRT, passive smokers, late full-term pregnancy, abortion, sweets consumption and genotype Arg/Arg might increase risk of breast cancer development, whereas late menarche, nulliparity, 13-24 months breastfeeding, daily exercise and vegetable consumption had an inverse association with breast cancer development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Epidemiologic evidence suggests that certain dietary patterns were associated with breast cancer risk, but the results have been inconclusive. We assessed the associations between different dietary patterns and the risk of breast cancer by conducting a meta-analysis of observational studies. METHODS Relevant articles were searched in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane library databases through September 2017. Multivariable-adjusted relative risks (RRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) comparing the highest and lowest categories of Western and prudent dietary patterns were combined by using the random-effects meta-analyses. RESULTS We identified 32 eligible articles including 14 cohort and 18 case-control studies (34 Western and 35 prudent studies). The pooled analyses found that a Western dietary pattern was associated with a 14% increased risk (RR 1.14, 95% CI 1.02, 1.28), whereas a prudent dietary pattern was associated with an 18% reduced risk of breast cancer (RR 0.82, 95% CI 0.75, 0.89). In addition, sub-group analyses showed that the positive association between a Western dietary pattern and breast cancer risk was significant among postmenopausal (RR 1.20, 95% CI 1.06, 1.35), but not premenopausal women (RR 1.18, 95% CI 0.99, 1.40), and significant for hormone receptor-positive tumors (RR 1.18, 95% CI 1.04, 1.33), but not receptor-negative tumors (RR 0.97, 95% CI 0.83, 1.12). In contrast, the inverse association between a prudent dietary pattern and breast cancer was significant in premenopausal (RR 0.77, 95% CI 0.61, 0.98), but not postmenopausal women (RR 0.88, 95% CI 0.74, 1.03), and significant for both hormone receptor-positive and receptor-negative tumors. CONCLUSIONS The results of the current meta-analysis suggest a possible increased risk of breast cancer associated with a Western dietary pattern and a reduced risk with a prudent dietary pattern. Large-scale cohort studies with a high quality need to be conducted to further confirm the findings of the current meta-analysis. As dietary patterns are modifiable, these findings may provide viable strategies for breast cancer prevention through changes in dietary intake.

OBJECTIVE The objective of the study was to quantify the loss of total amino acids (TAAs), nonessential amino acids, essential amino acids, and branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) produced by high-efficiency hemodialysis (HEHD), postdilution hemodiafiltration (HDFpost), and predilution hemodiafiltration (HDFpre) using high ultrafiltration volumes; and to define the specific AA losses registered in HEHD, HDFpost, and HDFpre; to identify a potential metabolic and nutritional decline into protein energy wasting; to compare AA analysis of arterial blood samples taken from healthy controls and patients with end-stage renal disease undergoing hemodialysis. DESIGN AND METHODS Identical dialysis monitors, membranes, and dialysate/infusate were used to homogenize extracorporeal body influence. Ten patients were recruited and randomized to receive treatment with HEHD, HDFpost, and HDFpre it was used on-line dialytic water methodologies (OL); patients' AA arterial concentrations were measured at the start and on completion of dialysis; TAA from the dialyzer filter was calculated, and baseline levels were subsequently compared with findings obtained 1 year later. Finally, the results obtained were compared with the data from a study of 8 healthy volunteers conducted using bioimpedance analysis and laboratory blood tests to assess nutritional status. RESULTS A higher convective dose results in a higher weekly loss of TAA, nonessential AAs, essential AAs, and BCAAs (HEHD: 15.7 g; HDFpost-OL: 16.1 g; HDFpre-OL: 16.3 g, P < .01). After 12 months, the same hemodialys patients showed a reduced body and water intracellular mass and reduced phase angle. Arterial concentrations of TAAs and BCAAs were lower than those detected in healthy subjects (P < .01). CONCLUSION The study shows that the AA losses in dialytic liquid are greater after high exchange volume HDF techniques, especially HDFpre. The AA losses are not metabolically compensated, so these increase the derangements of predialytic arterial plasma AA levels. Both AA losses and arterial AA perturbations further worsened body composition already after 12 months of additional dialysis.

Abstract
Background Epidemiological studies have found that high whole grain intake may be associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer. However, the evidence has not been consistent. We conducted a meta-analysis to quantitatively assess the association between whole grain intake and breast cancer risk. Methods Relevant observational studies were identified by searching PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library databases, and Google Scholar through April 2017. Summary relative risk (RR) estimates were calculated using random-effects meta-analysis. Results A total of 11 studies, including 4 cohort and 7 case-control studies and involving 131,151 participants and 11,589 breast cancer cases, were included in the current meta-analysis. The pooled RR of breast cancer for those with high versus low whole grain intake was 0.84 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.74 to 0.96, p = 0.009; I2 = 63.8%, pfor heterogeneity = 0.002). Subgroup analysis by study design found a significant inverse association in the case-control studies (RR: 0.69; 95% CI: 0.56 to 0.87, p = 0.001; I2 = 58.2%, p for heterogeneity = 0.026), but not in the cohort studies (RR, 0.96; 95% CI: 0.82 to 1.14, p = 0.69; I2 = 66.7%, p for heterogeneity = 0.029). In addition, stratified analysis suggested that sample size could be a potential source of heterogeneity. Conclusions Results of the current meta-analysis suggest that high intake of whole grains might be inversely associated with a reduced risk of breast cancer, and the inverse association was only observed in case-control but not cohort studies. More large-scale cohort studies are needed to confirm the inverse association observed. Abstract
Background: The incidence of breast cancer in Lebanon is higher than any other Middle –Eastern country, is diagnosed at a younger age than women in Western countries, and is more aggressive and fatal. Therefore addressing risk factors in this population is of paramount importance. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional, comparative design evaluated the risk factors for breast cancer in a convenient sample of 105 Lebanese-American women with 250 Lebanese. Odds Ratio, Chi square t-tests or ANOVA were used to compare the two groups’ risk factors and knowledge of screening tools. Associations found to be statistically significant were included in three multiple logistic regression models to estimate the odds of each variable for performing a mammography, a clinical breast exam (CBE) and a breast self-exam (BSE). Results: There were more Muslims in the Lebanese-American sample who perceived having a better income, and had a better understanding of the effectiveness of the mammogram, the CBE and the BSE. The Lebanese group reached menopause at an older age, t = 2.66, p = 0.05, smoked more, OR = 1.42, p = 0.001 and were five times more likely to live close to a main road or highway, OR = 5.75, p = 0.001 than the Lebanese-American group. The Lebanese- Americana group breast fed longer χ2= 11.68, p = .008, used contraceptives more, OR = 1.74, p = 0.027, exercised more, OR = 1.61, p < 0.001, and consumed more vegetables and fruits than their Lebanese counterparts, OR= 1.22, p = 0.002, and OR = 1.27 p = 0.001, respectively. For ever having a mammogram, the duration of breastfeeding (>6 months), effectiveness of the mammogram, and exercise were significant predictors. While for ever having a CBE, smoking, eating fruits, and exercise were significant. No variables were related to performing a BSE. Conclusion: The Lebanese women had higher risk factors for developing breast cancer, and had less knowledge of the benefits of breast cancer screening tools, calling for the importance of promoting healthy life styles and education.

Abstract
Background: The Gail Model has been widely implemented in developed and developing countries and is considered to be the best available instrument to estimate breast cancer (BC) risk for early prevention. Objective: The goals of the study were to determine five-year and lifetime BC risks and to assess BC predictors among female Saudi teachers using the Gail model. Methods: A cross sectional study with convenience sampling was conducted among 180 female Saudi secondary school teachers. The Gail model was used to evaluate the five-year and lifetime risks of developing BC. Included were a one-day 24-hour recall to assess daily serving sizes and food groups for food intake and questions regarding daily exercise, BMI, and demographic data. Result: The mean age of the teachers was 41±7.2 years, with a 0.87±0.93 mean for the five-year risk and a 9.6±5.4 mean lifetime risk of developing BC. According to the general linear model, the BC risk predictors were age, age at menarche, age at first pregnancy, family history, BMI, fruit and vegetable intake, and meat intake. Conclusion: The present study provided new information regarding the potential factors for five-year and lifetime invasive BC risk among Saudi women. Moreover, we could confirm that the Gail model is an appropriate BC risk assessment tool for Saudi women for early prevention, particularly among women at high risk of BC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Breast cancer (BrCa) is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among females and second cancer after lung cancer in many societies. In Iran, the risk for BrCa is 1 in 35 and each year, 8000 new patients have been diagnosed with BrCa. Studies have shown that dietary components are implicated in the etiology of BrCa. The Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ) is a method of quantitative and qualitative analysis of single foods, meals, and diets. The aim of this study was to determine the usefulness of INQs in predicting BrCa risk. METHODS Our case-control study was conducted from March 2015 to February 2016. The study included 145 cases and 148 controls who attended the Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences Cancer Research Center. INQ scores were computed based on dietary intake using a validated 168-item food frequency questionnaire. Logistic regression models were used to estimate multivariable odds ratios adjusted body mass index, education, employment, marital status, menarche age, childbirth number, smoking, menopause status, and physical activity. RESULTS Vitamins A, C, B1, B2, and B12 and selenium INQs as a continuous variable in relation to risk for BrCa showed a significant association after multivariate adjustment (odds ratio [OR]vitA, 0.41 [0.27-0.64]; ORvitC, 0.30 [0.20-0.47]; ORvitB1, 0.08 [0.04-0.17]; ORvitB2, 0.19 [0.11-0.34]; ORvitB12, 0.44 [0.31-0.61]; and ORselenium, 0.42 [0.26-0.67]). CONCLUSION Women who consumed a healthier diet including vitamin A, β-carotene, vitamin C, and folate and low-fat milk were at decreased risk for developing BrCa compared with those whose diet included more high fat and lamb meat.

Abstract
Introduction: Breast cancer is multifactorial therefore more recognition of risk factors is important in its prevention. Objective: This study was conducted in order to determine the factors influencing breast cancer in women referred to health centers in Guilan province in 2015-2016. Method: In a case- control study, 225 women with breast cancer were investigated. The control group consisted of 225 healthy women of the relatives (third-rank) whose phone numbers were obtained from the patients. Data were collected through telephone interviews. Results: The risk of breast cancer raised in women who have a family history of other cancers (OR= 3.5; 95% CI= 1.96-6.6), exposure to X-Ray (OR= 2.5; 95% CI=1.1-5.5), having more than 4 children (OR= 2.695% CI=1.2-4.8), age more than 36 years at first pregnancy(OR=2.3; 95% CI=0.7-5.1), primary levelof education (OR= 5.4;95% CI=2.8-11.2) and inadequate intake of fruit (OR=1.5; 95% CI=1-2.2). Also, presence of the following factors reduced breast cancer risk: regular menstruation (OR= 0.66; CI=0.4-0.9), duration of breastfeeding more than 12 months, less than 6 months and 7-12 months (OR=0.23; 95% CI=0.09-0.59, OR=0.29; 95% CI=0.17-0.49 and OR=0.03; 95% CI=0.01-0.08) and parity (OR=0.4; 95% CI=0.27-0.83) In multiple linear regression analysis of higher education (OR=0.16; 95% CI=0.03-0.77), using contraceptives for more than 16 years (OR=2.3; 95% CI=1.4-3.9), family history of other cancers (OR=6.1; 95% CI=1.9-19.3) and a history of X-Ray exposure (OR=4.4; 95% CI=1.07-18.1) were considered as predictive factors. Conclusion: The results of this study emphasize the importance of informing women about breast cancer risk factors. So, identification of these risk factors is required as important means of prevention and treatment of breast cancer.
